Welcome to The Sports Hangover Daily, I'm Sadie. Today: Texans-Jaguars in London, Chargers panic at oh and six, Bears fantasy waiver noise, and two tiny NHL score checks. Coffee first.
Houston beat Jacksonville thirty-four to thirty-one at Wembley. The Texans are still two and four, so nobody’s throwing a parade. But they did get their first real look at Marvin Harrison Junior in a Texans uniform.
Harrison finished with three catches for thirty-four yards. Not a takeover. Not a fantasy parade. Just a normal debut after a very weird trade out of Arizona.
And honestly? That’s fine.
Houston didn’t need him to land in London and become prime DeAndre Hopkins by breakfast. They needed proof he could fit fast enough to matter before this season gets away from them. They got that. Three catches is a starting point. Thirty-four yards isn’t saving your fantasy matchup. But defenses have to care about him, and that opens space for everybody else.
Jacksonville should be annoyed. That was a winnable game, and they let a two-win team with a brand-new receiver beat them overseas. That loss is sitting in the overhead bin the whole flight home.
For Houston, this was oxygen. Two and four is still ugly. But two and four with a new number one receiver, after beating a division opponent in London? Not dead. Messy, alive, and suddenly fun.
Around the league, Sunday night gave Green Bay a clean twenty-three to thirteen win over Dallas. The Packers are four and two. The Cowboys are two and four. Dallas looked like a team project where nobody opened the email.
Green Bay didn’t need to get cute. Control the game, lean on the defense, let Dallas make the mistakes. The Cowboys are getting close to the part of the season where every press conference sounds like therapy in shoulder pads.
Kansas City beat the Chargers twenty-two to six, and the Chargers are now oh and six. That’s not a slump. That’s a smoke alarm. The Chiefs are five and oh, still cruising. Los Angeles is already deep in trade-deadline rumor weather.
Treat the seller talk as chatter for now. But when you’re winless in mid-October, everybody starts looking movable. Coaches, veterans, coordinators, vibes. All of it. Losing by sixteen to your division bully does not calm the room down.
Buffalo survived Vegas thirty-three to thirty. The Bills are five and one, the Raiders are three and three, and Buffalo can win ugly shootouts without apologizing. Sometimes you score thirty-three, leave with the win, and pretend the defensive film disappeared.
The Browns beat Baltimore thirteen to ten, so the AFC North gets to be drunk for another week. Quinshon Judkins was inactive with an ankle issue, which makes Cleveland’s backfield a real waiver watch if that lingers. Don’t chase a name because the box score got weird. Chase the role. If touches open up, the depth backs matter.
Chicago beat Atlanta thirty-one to twenty-three without DJ Moore active. That matters for fantasy. Moore’s absence shifts targets, and the secondary Bears pass-catchers are worth checking before waivers run. D’Andre Swift keeps holding value through receiving work and touchdowns. Just don’t treat him like a pure rushing monster. His floor is coming from multiple phases.
Omar Cooper Junior also barged into waiver conversations: six catches, one hundred three yards, and a touchdown. That line gets fantasy managers reckless on Monday morning. Add him if you need receiver upside. Just know one spike week is not a locked-in role.
Tonight, Commanders at 49ers has injury mess all over it. Deebo Samuel Senior is out with a hamstring. Christian Kirk is questionable with a calf issue and possible injured-reserve activation. If you’re holding Monday night fantasy decisions, Samuel is out of your lineup. Kirk is a late-status headache, because of course he is.
One number to watch for Week seven: Buccaneers at Panthers. Early markets moved toward Carolina, flipping the side on some screens. That’s a real disagreement on the board. Before reacting, I’d want to know if it’s injury-driven or a true power-rating correction.
Hockey was short and tidy. Minnesota beat Columbus two to one. Calgary beat Carolina three to two. It’s October, so no playoff sermons. Good wins, early points, moving on.
The Hangover Take: the Chargers should start acting like sellers today.
Not after one more loss. Not after the deadline gets cute. Today.
Oh and six is not unlucky. Oh and six is your season screaming through the wall. If Los Angeles tries to sell this as “we’re close,” they’re lying to themselves and insulting everyone with a television.
The Chiefs just held them to six points. Six. In a division game. That’s not a bad bounce. That’s a team with no margin and no identity.
Take calls on veterans. Protect future picks. Stop pretending the math is your friend. The AFC is too crowded. The division is already gone. The wild card race isn’t waiting for a Chargers self-help montage.
And if I’m in that building, I’m not selling just to sell. I’m selling because denial costs more than honesty.
The Chargers don’t need one heroic trade. They need the guts to admit this version is broken.
That's your hangover. Go hydrate. I'll see you tomorrow.
