Muthership Creator Strategy

I've spoken at a lot of conferences over the years. And every single time, someone comes up to me and says: "I wish you could just show me how to do this. Can you sit down with me?"

That gap between listening to something and actually being able to do it? That's what I'm trying to close.

So I'm hosting my first in-person Muthership Creator Retreat in October in NYC and it's completely different from traditional speaker events. It's immersive. It's hands-on. It's built around learning by doing, not just sitting and listening.

In this week's podcast episode, I'm walking through the entire vision and plan. Why immersion actually changes how you learn (think: language learning). What the three days look like. Why the one-day option still packs a punch. And honestly, why this matters if you're feeling stuck or like you're not progressing.

This isn't an infomercial episode for the event, it's me explaining exactly what I've envisioned, eliminating any questions you might have and my thoughts on why it's going to make a real difference.

What is Muthership Creator Strategy?

Twice weekly show providing social media updates, trend alerts, original content ideas, strategy session, industry guests, tutorials and more!

Helen:

Think about learning a language. You take classes. You learn grammar. You study vocabulary. But what actually makes you fluent?

Helen:

Being immersed in it. And we hear this all the time. Welcome to the Muthership Creator Strategy. I wanna take that whole way of thinking and move it into content because I am hosting my first live Creator Retreat. And I have, through the years, spoken at a lot of conferences.

Helen:

I do workshops for social media, for other groups and retreats. And the one thing I see that is in common is that you're sitting through panels. You're listening to speakers one after the next. Maybe there's a little break. Maybe there's a maybe a more interactive workshop.

Helen:

But for the most part, it is passive. You're sitting. You're taking notes. You're so excited because the speakers are usually fantastic, and they have great things to share. But until you're actually putting those things into practice, there's a disconnect.

Helen:

And that's exactly what I see every time there is a conference that I'm speaking at and I talk to everyone and they're like after after my presentation, if someone comes up to me, they're just like, I wish I wish I could just have you help me. Can you sit down with me? Can I hire you privately? It it seems that the disconnect with speaking at something and presenting and then actually working with people to do it is the difference. Let me just cut to this.

Helen:

In most of my presentations, when I'm even at those types of things where it's a bunch of speakers and then it's my turn to speak, I always like to get the audience involved more. I like to do a test on the spot. We participate in making content because I think that little five minutes where I spend doing that is the most valuable thing I've given them because I'm showing them in real time how easy it is. But because these are one hour presentations, I don't have a chance to then sit with each person, go through and show them how to edit even in small groups. It doesn't that the time doesn't allow.

Helen:

So I've decided to host my own retreat, and my vision is what I would want if I was going to learn something. So I wanna review what the plan is. I wanna share why I'm doing it this way and how I think this is gonna make a big difference if you are serious about content creation and you find yourself a little stuck or you're not moving to the next thing. You're not progressing because something is holding you back. So let's review what the plan is and how I'm gonna break it down for this three day retreat with a one day option.

Helen:

And the reason I'm making this three days with a one day option is if you want to just dip your feet in, spend one day, it's still going to be very immersive. That one day is gonna be fully hands on. There's gonna be some lessons, then there's gonna be hands on, we're doing it. Then a little bit more guidance lessons, then hands on, we're doing it. This is what I've wanted to do for workshops, except I'm usually only given an hour to ninety minutes.

Helen:

So all I have time for is a quick presentation, a little demonstration, and then a q and a. And in this case, we have a whole day. So the big day, that's gonna be the studio day, is gonna be very interactive in and of itself. But if you commit to the whole weekend, the bonus there is that you're gonna get more one on one, more guidance and strategy on your account because it's gonna be a smaller group. So I'm gonna be able to spend the time doing the research on your account, finding out what kinds of things you're posting, give you some strategy and guidance, almost like an audit on the spot.

Helen:

So the three day with the experience of moving around New York and making the content, that is gonna be way more personalized than just the one day. I just wanna make that clear upfront. So now let's break down what I have envisioned, what Julie and I have put together in terms of an itinerary, and how it's gonna flow. This way, you can fully understand if you want to make the investment, if it feels like it's something that's right for you. Day one, this is for the VIP members who are booking the three day experience.

Helen:

There is going to be the travel day. Everybody will travel, check check-in wherever they're staying, and we're gonna kick it off at 5PM. We're gonna do a happy hour meet and greet, but I am going to allow that from five to seven or so PM to go through their audits. And that's gonna be one by one as everybody's socializing. I'm gonna talk about to each person about their content, what their goals are, just get a feel for what type of content they wanna create over the course of the weekend, what they wanna specifically learn, what they feel is their weak spot, what their strengths are.

Helen:

So for the VIP guests, this is going to be very, very catered and personalized to you. And that's where we're gonna kick off. Then we'll have a nice dinner, get to know each other, maybe do some questions and things about content at dinner if everybody wants to talk about that. Otherwise, socialization and getting ready for the weekend. Day two is our full content day where those who wanna just attend for one day are going to join us.

Helen:

And we're gonna kick that off with several different workshops interspersed with making content. So we're going to do a morning meet and greet. We're going to do then an hour of content workshop specifically catered towards us the on the go content. Then we're all gonna leave. We're gonna go out and about together in a group, and we're going to film content.

Helen:

We're gonna record. Everyone's gonna have a plan. There's gonna be different types of content that you're going to be able to choose from. You're gonna decide what type of video you're gonna make, and we're gonna go out and do it together. I'm gonna help you make sure you know how to shoot it, make sure it looks good, give you the tips, how to use that back camera if you wanna do vlogging.

Helen:

We're gonna do all of it. Then we'll regroup back to the studio. We're going to then do some editing, sit down, editing lessons. This is gonna be the real deal. Hands on editing help from me.

Helen:

This is, like, the biggest request I get on my freaking TikToks and everything that when I post. Please, please help me edit. Okay? So we're gonna do the editing together. We'll have a little a lunch brought in.

Helen:

We'll have some time to socialize, but this is going to be about making the content that you just filmed. So in real time, we're gonna create it. If it's transitions you decide to do, great. We're doing it. If it's vlogs you decided to do, great.

Helen:

We're doing it. If it's both and you can tackle all of it, whatever the assignments are, I'm I'm in for all of it. So that's gonna be working sessions. And then in the afternoon, we're gonna focus on spoken content. So for those of you who do talking head videos, we're gonna do a quick, what is your what is your holdup?

Helen:

What is stopping you from creating authentic content? Are you looking at the camera correctly? Are you positioned on your in your lens in a good spot? Do you feel like you're making a connection with the audience? What is missing?

Helen:

I'm a director. I'm there. I'm gonna help you. I'm gonna direct you. So if you're feeling awkward or uneasy or if there's something about it that's holding you up, this is what I do.

Helen:

This is what I do in my day job. That's why I'm so excited about this because I'm gonna get to take those skills and actually tangibly help people instead of just directing someone for one day, and then that's just the the end of that because then the client's doing the editing. This is gonna be me directing you so that you can then direct yourself and improve. So I'm excited about that. We're gonna do content.

Helen:

Again, it's gonna take us through to the end of the day because we are going to be doing the editing. I'm gonna be showing you all the things. We're gonna move around. The space that we have booked has lots of different looks and crannies. It has a little library space, a little kitchen space, a little studio space, a little conference rooms.

Helen:

It's got a little a sitting area, living roomy. So all the scenarios are there to help you and allow you to be able to do the content and practice the kind of content that you wanna create create. Alright. So we've got the space laid out. It's gonna be like just like clockwork.

Helen:

It's gonna be so good. And then we're gonna wrap it up by going to a fun happy hour at a local place that I like that we there'll be music. There'll be, like, a little maybe some, you know, this is we're not going clubbing, but we'll go there's music and entertainment and dancing, and you'll have a good time. I mean, for sure, that's how we wanna end the day because I wanna end it on a good note. I want the networking vibes to feel like we actually made friendships, not just business acquaintances again, like sharing cards.

Helen:

I want everyone to feel very connected. And then, hello, my VIPs are coming with me for a nice dinner out. Everything is included that I've mentioned so far, meals, the happy hour, all of the things are included. If you do the one day, the happy hour and light bites is included, the lunch, the breakfast, all of that. And then if you do I didn't mention breakfast, but we're having breakfast in the studio.

Helen:

Forgot to mention it. Anyway, if you're meeting me for the three day experience, the the first night's dinner and strategy sessions, everything is included. The second day fully, and then we are on to the third day. Our VIPs are gonna come with for the day. We're gonna do a little West Side touring.

Helen:

We're gonna do content on the go in some really of my favorite places in New York. We're gonna bop around. I'm not even gonna tell you where because a little bit I wanna surprise you, but we are gonna go over to the West Side. We are gonna then have a walking tour in the West Village, so we're gonna do a nice walking food tour. This is guided, so we have a guide.

Helen:

And the guide is gonna take us through the the culinary delights of the West Village, and then we're gonna have a nice time. That'll be our lunch for the day. And we can make content about that, which is really fun because, you know, you're in a walking tour in New York City, a walking food tour. Let's do it. Do you wanna make content about the food, the experience, the people, the sites?

Helen:

You are gonna be able to decide what type of content you wanna make, and we're gonna do it as we go on the spot. You're not gonna have to do it figure it out later. You're not gonna say, oh my god. I have all this footage. I don't know what to do with it.

Helen:

You're gonna know what to do with it. Hello? So I'm really happy. This is gonna be so much fun. So we have the walking tour, and then we'll have a spot where we sit and do some editing, and then we'll take a walk through a few of my other favorite spots.

Helen:

If you would like to have some free time, we'll build in some free time there. We'll talk about it as the creators who are the VIPs as I get to know them, what do they really wanna do, and what do they wanna get out of their weekend, and then we're gonna have a nice farewell dinner. It is going to be fully immersive. You're gonna learn how to edit. You're gonna learn how to create.

Helen:

You're gonna learn how to bop around New York City and live like no one like dance like no one's watching kind of thing because if there's not if there's anything I love, it's filming in public. I don't have any qualms about it. If you do, you won't by the end of the weekend. Hello. I'm really excited, and I just hope this is appealing to the right people who want to join and want to experience all the things.

Helen:

So if you're serious about learning your craft, improving your brand, if you wanna learn by doing instead of watching and listening, you value community and connection, and you're ready to invest in yourself and really take the next step, I, I welcome you to this fun adventure that I'm gonna have. And in terms of practical details, of course, you're gonna want comfortable walking shoes. All of these questions are answered in the frequently asked questions on the link. Casual clothing is fine. We're gonna do work, but it's gonna be energizing type of work.

Helen:

It's gonna be collaborative, and it's going to be supportive. So I've included the links here, and you can find the links in the studio. You can find the links in the email. Wherever you if and if you can't find the link, you just message me, and I will get it to you. I would hope to see you there.

Helen:

There will be an early bird discount that will be cut off after certain times. You might wanna commit sooner than later and be there or be square. I wanted to say that so bad. Alright. I hope I see you.

Helen:

Let me know if you have any questions about it. Have a great week.
