105: Be A Contributor Not A Taker

Are you a contributor or a taker? What does any of this have to do with you?
A contributor is others-focused, and prefers to offer support to others. A taker is self-focused and putting their own interests ahead of the needs of others. In this episode, I will talk about one of the biggest things I’ve learned in my business and how it helped me change my mindset about the role I play in the world.

105: Be A Contributor Not A Taker

Are you a contributor or a taker? What does any of this have to do with you?

A contributor is others-focused and prefers to offer support to others. A taker is self-focused and putting their own interests ahead of the needs of others. In this episode, I will talk about one of the biggest things I’ve learned in my business and how it helped me change my mindset about the role I play in the world.

You can be a contributor, a leader

02:10- 02:13 If you really care about the topic, you can be a contributor, a leader.

02:14- 02:15  You don’t have to know everything.

02:42- 02:47  First and foremost, you would need to give yourself permission to show up where you are at exactly right now.

03:33- 03:38  So here are some thoughts for you, “Your movements need to have many voices especially yours”.

You need to stand out in the crowd

04:25- 04:27 You need to stand out in the crowd.

04:28- 05:03 Because worried that you’re not standing out in the crowd or that you’re not super original? Guess what? If you’re a contributor or a leader, you can keep your eyes on your own work. There are many parts to the same outcome, and many industries have their own niches within niches, there are different price points, too. And every industry needs diversity. Especially now, more than ever, customers are looking out for role models who look and sound like you. So, you’ve got to show up and inspire them.

05:47- 05:49 The movement needs your voice.

Empower people to find their own answers

05:58- 06:01 The next thing is to empower people to find their own answers.

06:02- 06:25 Gurus think there only one answer, and they want people to be reliant on them alone, but contributors let people find their own answers so you can help people follow their intuition, develop their own self-awareness by being a leader, sharing your voice, giving them tips, you don’t need to have all the answer.

06:23- 06:29 You don’t need to have all the answers because it’s just about sharing stories like what I’m doing now and being relatable.

06:44- 06:50 (6) If you’re a leader of others asking them questions helped them find their own answers.

07:41- 07:52 (11) You don’t need to have all the answers to be a contributor, you can just get good at asking questions, start conversations, well-coming opinions from your own industry.

Build a community, not a following

07:56- 08:28 Now there is a tendency in our world at the moment to count the number of followers that you have even the likes, shares that you have. And everyone seems to be obsessed with this. But if you’re a contributor, you’re building a community that you are a member of, as well. That doesn’t mean you’re the only one who has to have all the answers. You curate answers for a lot of different things in your community.

Creating safe spaces

08:33- 09:09 One of the other aspects of being a contributor is creating safe spaces for people to explore that topic. You might have a free or a paid Facebook group or you can have some sort of way that people can come together, and together you can think of the answers yourself, without you having to be the guru of everyone else. It can really be exhausting if everyone’s looking to you for the right answer, and if you’re trying to be everything to everyone. You can’t do it, but if you’re a contributor, it’s okay for you to build a community, where there are lots of different voices as well.

People need the basics

09:14- 09:29 The last thing I want to say is this, people just need to hear the basics. You do not need to know everything about everything. So you got to think, people need the basics, again and again, and they need to hear it from different people, and in different flavors, in different industries.

You don’t have to be perfect

10:00- 10:40  Lastly, don’t feel like you have to be perfect. Just be honest. You don’t have to be this untouchable guru, who is perfect all the time, because a lot of people don’t even try to put themselves out there because they worry that people are going to think, “Well, I’m not perfect. I can’t be a guru.” The best way to avoid that is just to tell your truth. Tell your story. No one can copy your particular story, and that is why I love asking a question about your origin story, your chronological story, your milestone, and all these will help you to build up a flow.

Key Takeaways:
  1. Give self permission.
  2. Your movement needs many voices.
  3. Empower people to find their answers.
  4. Build a community, not a following.
  5. Create safe spaces.

Being fabulous, having freedom, financial independence and family. With a challenge to women everywhere to stop talking themselves out of their dreams. Welcome to the show.

[00:01:35]
Genecia Alluora: Hello, gorgeous. Welcome to today's episode. My name is Genecia Alluora and on this episode I want to talk about being a contributor and not a taker. And one of the biggest lessons I've learned in my business and one of that has helped me to change my mindset about the role I play in the world and how we can all best show up for our communities. So I just want to say this statement. You don't have to be a guru, okay? You don't need to be an expert. You can be a contributor, a leader. If you really care about topic, be a contributor, be a leader. You don't have to know everything. That's why I always talk about being an instant podcast leader, being an instant book leader, being an instant video leader. Because you don't have to be a guru. As long as you are really good in the topic topic, you can be a contributor. Okay? Let me get to that space. Okay?

[00:02:33]
Genecia Alluora: So I want to expand this today because when you really understand what I'm trying to say, it can really change your business. So, first and foremost, you will need to give yourself permission to show up exactly where you are at right now. Now, it's going to help you to feel more excited about offering your work to the world now, not that until the time that you're operating free of your industry, you also become less precious about your own work because you'll know it doesn't have to be the most original or the most unique. You'll stop worrying about your competitors because you realize that your overall mission is one of that you're contributing to. So that's how I feel. So I don't care about competitors now these days because I know that I'm contributing to the conversation about being a soul rich woman, owning the F word, being fabulous, having freedom, financial independence, and happy family.

[00:03:32]
Genecia Alluora: So here are some thoughts for you. Your movement needs to have many voices, especially yours. So if you really care about your mission, maybe it's for more people to do yoga or to increase the market for sustainable clothes or for women to have more self love. Stop thinking that the market is too crowded for you. There can be more than one in your field. You don't have to kill everyone and take their power. And that's very scarcity mindset and that is very cultural based. In fact, you can embrace the fact that there are a lot of you and yours might be the voice that kind of gives your shine through your passion into the mainstream. And that's going to be good for everyone, more customers for everyone. So you need to stand out in the crowd because worry that you're not standing out in the crowd or you're not super original. Guess what? If you're a contributor or a leader, you can keep your eyes on your own work. There are many parts to the same outcome. Many industries have their own niche and within niches there are different price points too. And every industry needs diversity.

[00:04:52]
Genecia Alluora: Especially now more than ever customers are looking out for role models who look and sound like you. So you have got to show up and inspire them, whether it be a podcast or writing a book, right? So gurus want people to follow that particular business like a religion, right? You don't need all the followers in the world to be honest. You just need the people who want to hear from you, like yourself. You want to hear from me. So you are subscribed and you listen to my podcast show and then you can share other people's voices as well. Like my other podcast called Make It Happen and not be resentful of other people contributing. Because guess what? There are many different personality types. Someone might want to hear from you or they might want to hear from someone else. But the movement needs your voice. So you make sure you show up.

[00:05:52]
Genecia Alluora: Next, empower people to find their own answers. The next thing is to empower people to find their own answers. Gurus think that there's only one answer and they want people to be reliant on them alone. But contributors let people find their own answers. So you can help people to follow their intuition, develop their own self awareness by being a leader, sharing your voice, giving them advice and tips. You don't need to have all the answers because it's just about sharing stories like what I'm doing now and being relatable. And that's another important thing. Contributors ask good questions. Part of helping people find their own answers is not by being the only source of information. If you're a leader of others asking them questions, help them find their own answers. Well, for example, in my Soul Rich Woman Blueprint, I could be answering questions all day long, just giving people the answers.

[00:06:58]
Genecia Alluora: But instead I always ask people to go within. Well, what stories are you telling about the situation? What's coming up for you? There's no right or wrong. How do you feel about that? What do you want to change? You can't tell people how to think and feel. You can only help them to dig deeper and find out what's happening for them and the choices they want to make instead. So one of the things I love to ask in the Soul Rich Woman Blueprint, is things like, well, what's your origin story? What is the value ladder? When did that first come up for you? And you don't need to have all the answers to be a contributor. You can just get good at asking questions, start conversations, welcoming different opinions from your own industry.

[00:07:52]
Genecia Alluora: Next, build a community, not a following. Now, there is a tendency in our world at the moment to count the amount of followers you have, even the likes that you have, the shares that you have. And everyone seems to be obsessed with this. But if you are a contributor, you're building a community that you are a member of as well. That doesn't mean that you are the only one who has to have all the answers. You need answers for a lot of different things in your community like what we do. Next is to create safe spaces. One of the other aspects of being a contributor is creating safe spaces for people to explore that topic. You might have a free or paid Facebook group, or you can have some sort of way that people can come together and together you can think of answers yourself without having to be the guru of everyone else.

[00:08:52]
Genecia Alluora: It can be really exhausting if everyone's looking to you for the right answer. And if you are trying to be everything to everyone, you can't do it. But if you are a contributor, it's okay for you to build a community and where there's lots of different voices as well, well, people need the basics. Okay? So the last thing I want you to say is this people just need to hear the basics. You do not need to know everything about everything. So you got to think people need the basics again and again. They need to hear it from different people in different flavors and in different industries. For example, how many articles are there about getting your baby to sleep at night? So many, right? But there's always new moms googling at 03:00 a.m. Trying to find a reassuring voice in a language that they understand by someone they resonate with. Well, so some topics never go out of style. They just need to be refreshed and customized to a new audience.

[00:09:55]
Genecia Alluora: Next, you don't have to be perfect. All right? Lastly, you don't feel like you have to be perfect. Just be honest. You don't have to be this untouchable guru who is perfect all the time. Because a lot of people don't even try to put themselves out there because they worry about that people are going to think. Well, I'm not perfect, therefore I can be a guru. Now, the best way to avoid that is to tell your truth, tell your story. No one can copy your particular story. And that is why I love asking questions about your origin story, your corona logical story, your milestones. And all this will help you to build up a flow, right? And if you care about contributing to the conversation, yours is just one more story and makes you more relatable. My behind the scenes posts are always popular and they are never from a guru perfection point of view. They are always like, here's all the crap I've done, all the sweat and hustle I've been through, all the messiness in the studio and all the mistakes I've made. And other people love that. It tells them that they are not alone. And you can just, again, be one of the many contributors to that conversation.

[00:11:19]
Genecia Alluora: So I just want to encourage you today to be a contributor, not a taker, and to be a leader, whether you are instant podcast leader, instant book author, you don't have to be perfect. You don't have to be a guru, don't have to be a taker. You can actually just be who you are and no one is going to anoint you or tap on your shoulder and say you are a guru now. You can start contributing right now. So I just want to say that you can just go find your voice and start sharing it with other people. And that's the best. Okay? So that's why I wanted to expand this guru contributor conversation, because too many women tell me that they feel like they're not good enough. They are not a leader, they don't have stories to share, they have nothing to say. So I just want you to take this one step further. I really believe that this whole perfectionism thing is massive money block that is impacting women today.

[00:12:21]
Genecia Alluora: And I think that's where this whole guru thing comes from. I can't do this. I can't do that, because I'm not a leader. I cannot be a podcaster. I cannot be an author. Things like that. So I really want you to explore if this is a money block that you have in your life as well, okay? So if you have these thoughts and thinking, go to soulricwoman.com. This is where I'm going to help you to open up this whole conversation about money blocks being a Soul Rich Woman. And you can discover exactly where you're sabotaging yourself in your business and life right now. Now, this whole thing could be a perfectionism thing. It's quite common, but I would think that it could actually be money blocks that you are using right now to sabotage your business. All right?

[00:13:14]
Genecia Alluora: So you can actually give us a rate and review of what you think of today's episode or subscribe to our podcast show and even book my time on a coaching call today so that you can really look into your money blocks. Otherwise, I will see you in the next episode because I really love you and I appreciate you for being here, being my listener, being my follower, being a part of my community. Just know that I care about you and that's why I show up every day, every day here with you.

[00:13:49]
Genecia Alluora: The key to unlock consistent success. The key to unlock that diamond within you. No other things involved. This is what you need to do and must do tonight. You can do it because I've done it. As long as you have a mentor who can take you from where you are now to where you want to be, you can shortcut your success.
