Good morning daily peppers and a very Happy Wednesday,

it is the middle of the week. And if you're not feeling it, and you need a bit of permission to either slow down or just do the essentials, that is what today's episode is all about. So a while ago, on the daily pack, we were talking about beastmode. And that's this idea that we all have days where we are on fire, we get shit done. And rather than taking that as the winner is that then becomes the expectation for every day, we talked about how that is absolutely not sustainable. And I want to talk about the flip side or the other side of the spectrum to beast mode for a second. And I want to talk to you about maintenance mode. Now maintenance mode is all about just doing the essential is about recognising that you are at capacity, that you are out of energy, that ideally if you could you would take a break. And just doing the things that you have to get done is about stripping out all of the frills is about cutting down your expectations a little bit, which I know is so much easier said than done. And it's about approaching everything on your plate. With a slightly different perspective. It comes down to this question, what do you absolutely need to get done? Secondly, are you sure you absolutely need to get done those things. And when you've created that list, just doing those things, it might involve getting rid of some things for this week that you wanted to get done. In an ideal world, it might involve saying no to commitments it maybe you'd rather not. But you know you need to at the moment. And it looks like putting yourself first and reclaiming back some of that time and energy as fuel not to do more stuff. But just to see you through. I know a lot of us have experienced burnout. And for so many of us our experiences of burnout have looked like not necessarily always knowing that it's coming until it is right there in front of your face. As we get used to dealing with burnout. And as we get used to the way we work, we tend to burn out less hard each time. But I think we have all had those experiences where everything kind of comes to a crashing halt. And it's only then we realised that we were actually fucking knackered. One of the ways I think we can stave off burnout is putting ourselves in maintenance mode early, it may be slightly uncomfortable, especially as people who tend to put their heart and soul into everything they do. And we tend to see doing the bare minimum as a bit of a challenge to our values. But trust me is much better to put yourself in maintenance mode when you have the choice to rather than be forced to later down the line. So if this is resonating with you, and you are feeling slightly overwhelmed, and you're at capacity, I really just recommend putting yourself into maintenance mode for a couple of weeks. Maintenance Mode does not say anything bad about you as a person. But it does say that you are somebody who has respect for your own needs and respect for yourself, which is pretty damn huge. I know maintenance mode is going to look slightly different for all of us depending on our different life circumstances and different life commitments. But I bet if you absolutely had to, you could find a couple of things to say no to this week, that would give you back some energy time and space. The world would not fall apart. And though it might feel pretty uncomfortable at the time, it's going to be much more beneficial than it is uncomfortable. So here's to meeting our own needs. Here's to knowing that we do not have to earn rest. We do not have to earn our basic needs. They're not some kind of transaction and that you're 100% is most other people's 1,000% And we can afford to drop that down a bit. I'll see you tomorrow.
