From Feature Story News in New Delhi, I'm Neha Punia. Iran is set to formally present an agreement with Oman on a temporary shipping lane through the Strait of Hormuz to Gulf nations after a rare meeting between senior Iranian and Emirati officials. Saudi Arabia has been pressing Washington for help in responding to Houthi attacks, but the Trump administration has signaled it's not prepared to offer that support, a stance that underscores the growing strain between the 2 allies. On Monday, oil prices have jumped following new Houthi and Iranian strikes in the Gulf over the weekend. Meanwhile, Microsoft Chief Executive Satya Nadella is backing calls a more deliberate pace of artificial intelligence development. His statement is coming a day after the heads of Anthropic, OpenAI, and Elon Musk's xAI jointly called for the industry to slow down the building of more powerful models, a call US President Donald Trump dismissed as exaggerated. This after 2 Anthropic researchers last week issued warnings that the tech could lead to the eventual extinction of the human race. Kate Fisher has more. He's not prepared for the United States to, to stop advancing its developments in any way, despite what some of these AI leaders are warning about. He's kind of framing this as strategic competition, yet another strategic competition between the US and China, kind of suggesting that any form of regulation in the United States on this would be a sort of gift to Beijing in terms of how quickly it can advance and perhaps take over the United States in the development of the technology. I think one of the big concerns here among analysts is that this is all kind of too little, too late, and that Congress really needs to get on top of this. The 2-day BRICS summit in New Delhi has wrapped up, bringing together leaders from China, Iran, and Russia, among several other emerging economies. Despite arriving at a joint declaration, the bloc still faces divisions over conflicts, trade, and relations with the West. Rebecca Bunton has more. India's message at the summit was about building bridges amid a challenging and shifting global economic and trade environment. But the big diplomatic test was to try to find common ground, as the Middle East war exposed divisions in the expanded grouping, which includes both Iran and the UAE. Despite doubts swirling about reaching a consensus, the summit delivered a joint declaration. India wants to position BRICS as a stronger voice for the Global South, to help shape rules rather than simply follow them. But also the fact that India is trying to balance its strong ties with Russia and the United States. Such meetings also highlight some of the challenges facing the BRICS bloc. There may be a joint declaration, but the question remains whether this translates into practical economic cooperation and a greater say for developing countries on the world stage. It doesn't work. We tried it in the League of Nations. We tried it with the UN, but because of the veto, because of formal rules, because of charters, there's paralysis. The UN is paralyzed. And so we have to deal with the reality that that kind of legalized, formalized, ratified multilateralism is not available in today's international system. What's the fallback? Ad hoc groupings. Coalitions of the willing. Try to put at the table the powers that need to be there to manage international crises. So let's start off from the top and let's go to— WTF. Welcome to Florida. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis says that he'll offer asylum to the lone holdout juror in Lindsay Clancy's murder trial if the man is being harassed. DeSantis blasted the media coverage examining the juror's past domestic violence allegations and restraining order, calling it a smear campaign. Clancy's trial ended in a mistrial after the jury was deadlocked 11 to 1. So what do you think here? No, like seriously, what do you think? It's definitely an interesting one. I don't know because I keep on going, okay, so what was the holdout and how do we know 100% of what it was? So I know, you know, people want to take these deep dives into some of these things, but I always take a look at it and go, okay, it gets interesting as we are talking. So there you go. Okay. In some other news, a statue of Charlie Kirk outside of the Turning Point USA headquarters And Phoenix was vandalized just days after it was unveiled on the first anniversary of his death. According to reports, the bronze statue was covered in red spray paint, including around the neck, while a nearby memorial was also defaced with red paint and markings. Phoenix police were, were called to investigate, and it's unclear whether any suspects have been identified. The vandalism came amid, uh, continued public attention surrounding Kirk's killing and the criminal case against the man accused of his murder. So there you go. What do you think here? It's an interesting one. I mean, I don't understand the point of, uh, defacing stuff. It's not going to change anything. It's still a memorial that's meant for the person. I'm pretty sure that, uh, when they built the thing, if you didn't like the guy, it wasn't meant for you. So it's kind of a weird thing. I don't know what it's accomplishing. Let's just put it that way in that particular regards. Also, in some other news, President Trump says that he does not plan to intervene in the Lindsey Clancy case after her attorney publicly asked him for a pardon. Trump called the case a very sad situation and said that it is ultimately a matter of Massachusetts authorities and that the state court system to resolve, adding that there is no winner. because 3 children are dead. Clancy is charged with killing her 3 young children in 2023, while her defense argued that she was suffering from postpartum psychosis and not, uh, and was not criminally responsible. Now, this is what it says, so I'm giving you the, the info. Uh, her recent trial ended in a mistrial after a jury was deadlocked, and the case remains unresolved as her legal team and prosecutors consider The next steps. That's the— that's one of those weird cases to me in that particular regards. I mean, I'm just saying, a lot of stuff going on there, but we'll leave that for, uh, for somebody else to determine, uh, what the hell is going on. No, seriously, because listen, we talk here, we talk about what's going on, and it goes back to the same thing that we talk about all the time. We have these conversations about what's going on in the news because we have things that we talk about in some other aspects. And I think that you need to have topical information of what's going on, opposed to just going, oh, we're just going to talk about safety. I just don't think it works out too well. Wisconsin Representative Tom Tiffany suffered minor injuries after a small plane that he was traveling in lost power and was forced to make an emergency landing in the water, in the lake, on Saturday night. Tiffany and the pilot escaped the sinking aircraft, uh, swam to shallow water, and were rescued by emergency crews. Both were taken to a local hospital for minor injuries. Tiffany later said that, uh, there was a frightening experience. It was a reminder on how precious life is. While federal authorities are expected to investigate the cause— what caused the aircraft to lose power. So there you go, some stuff going on right there. No doubt, no doubt on that one. No doubt, because there's nothing else to, um, Did all to do there. Also, take a listen to this. A federal judge has ruled the Trump administration acted unlawfully— did you hear me, unlawfully— in pursuing its plan to, uh, to cut FEMA's workforce by roughly 50%. The U.S. District Judge Suzanne Ilston found that the Department of Homeland Security improperly took control over FEMA personnel decision and published staffing reduction despite the objection from FEMA supervisor. The judge said the plan, um, violated a federal protection put in place after Hurricane Katrina that limits DHS ability to significantly reduce FEMA's function and authority. The lawsuit was brought by the American Federation for Government Or of government, better saying, employees and other labor groups. The court has not yet decided specific remedies, so we'll have to take a look and see what exactly is going on in the near future. So what do you think about that? Now, it's, it's a kind of a serious question because here's what happens. People will go, it's not needed, it needs to be cut, it needs to be, um, moved, doesn't have to have so many resources until something happens to them. Seriously, that's how most of this stuff works. I mean, I think I— you already know this. It's not like I'm saying something that, um, it's untrue. Duh. People think about the same way when it comes to some of the safety stuff. People don't really think about safety and how it should work. Until something happens. I'm not picking here, it's just the reality of the situation. Think about that for a moment. More sarcasm than a Mortal Kombat beatdown. Rated R safety show. Okay, take a listen to this one. On Friday, President Trump delivered remarks at the Pentagon. It's a 9/11 ceremony. Take a listen to what he had to say. With the events of that morning, 2,977 Beautiful souls were ripped from our world, and many more died in the weeks and years after horrible, grotesque injuries so many were sustained. Today, we renew the sacred oath that we first swore in their names a quarter of a century ago, we will never, ever forget. That's why we fight today. We don't have a choice. There can only be victory. We fight hard. We fight to win. We will always remember the victims and the families of September 11th. Okay, so that's what the president had to say at the ceremony of what happened at the Pentagon on 9/11. So Keep that in mind as we are talking. Yep. A lot of stuff going on over the weekend, that is for sure. A lot of people were excited yesterday because the NFL is back, or at least that's, you know, the lines that are being used. Should we talk about the scores? I mean, I really don't care about them, but we'll talk about them anyways. Yesterday, the Bengals won 33 to 27 against the Buccaneers, the Lions 31, the Saints 30, Jets 23, Titans 10. Ravens had 41. Colts 23. Steelers 20. Falcons 13. Bears 59. And the Panthers had 37. I mean, just because it's there does not mean, uh, that it's one of those things that will end up happening or working out for something in regards to what's going on. Okay. So let's talk about this because, you know, we have to always talk about the weird. Duh. Because if we don't, what would we be doing? A Virginia woman says that she got Much more than ice and Coke when she stopped at McDonald's. Content creator Maddie says that she was drinking her soda when she discovered what appeared to be a dead worm floating inside. Maddie, who has a serious fear of bugs, um, understandably freaked out after the viewers weighed in, and she says that she has identified the creature as a sludge worm, also known as a sewage worm. Or a tube effect worm. She says that she returned the worm to McDonald's and contacted the health department. And here's the part that makes you think twice before taking another sip. She apparently isn't the first time that customers have reported finding worms in McDonald's drink. 3 customers at one of the Wisconsin locations reportedly found similar worms, with investigators pointing to maintain— to maintenance issues and flooding around the beverage equipment. So that's not just a Coke and a smile, it's Coke and a worm. I mean, think about that for a moment. So here's what the— here's what Maddie had to say. Take a listen. I'm literally crying and throwing up because I was drinking my Coke from McDonald's and there's an earthworm in it. There's a worm in it. Hold on, I gotta pass him the phone so he can show you because I can't hold it anymore and do it. Small worm. It's down here. No, I know, I, I know. There's more than— I don't know if it's more than one or if it's just a really big one. I don't know. Like, if you know me, you know that I genuinely have a bug phobia. This is my worst nightmare, and I keep almost throwing up, and then I can't throw it up because I'm scared of the worms coming back up and out of my mouth again. Okay, so hold on, you have a worm phobia? And you said your biggest fear is drinking a worm? I don't think that's the biggest fear. I think it's a fear, don't get me wrong, but I mean, who am I to know what exactly you're thinking? But what a crazy story. I mean, that's kind of always been the weird thing to talk about. I mean, and let's just be realistic, if you notice, there are some of the chains that have decided to go into the clear cup aspect. That way you can see anything that's going on. Because remember, for a period of time there was a lot of weird stuff going on. Do you remember when they had the applesauce recall and the little squeezable packs for kids because you couldn't see it and they kept on getting mold inside of them? And then there's been other food offerings that people weren't sure exactly what they were grabbing, so they went to these clear packaging. I don't know, maybe clear packaging is where it's at, and then maybe we just need to be extremely careful. Uh, with anything that we're having, um, inside of some of these places, because who knows what's in the food. We at Safety FM are not responsible for what this idiot behind the microphone is saying. Okay, so let's talk about this one, and I think you might chuckle for a moment, but a New York high school senior, Julie Caputa, was suspended on her very first day of school after walking into class with a cup of coffee. A drink that she doesn't know had, uh, suddenly become banned. A teacher told her to dump it, chug it, or head out, um, head to the office. She ended up, uh, in school suspension, accused of violating a newly added no outside food or drinks rule that meant to keep the classroom, um, instruction focused. But here's the twist: Julie and her mom discovered that the school district had quietly adopted the policy without holding a required public hearing. Meeting minutes weren't posted, parents weren't informed, and the rule appeared on the district's 2026 and 2027 conduct standards with no public input. After Julie questioned the administrators, she was allowed back to class, coffee still in hand, and the district has now scheduled a proper public hearing to rewrite the policy with, um, student feedback. Julie says that she cares about transparency and that the suspension won't stay on her record. So there you go. I mean, focus on school, no outside food or drinks. Let's, let's kind of have that conversation for a moment because that's where it's going to get weird. So what if I was bringing a bag lunch from home? Uh, would I be able to eat it? I'm just asking because things get so weird sometimes, um, in regards to what we talk about. So there you go. Take a listen to this one real quick. A Pittsburgh coyote was found itself in real, uh, Life game of how did I get here? After wandering into an alley and becoming wedged between 2 walls, animal care and control officers spent hours carefully freeing the trapped animal from the tight spot. Thankfully, the coyote was safely rescued and released into the woods area outside of the city. Officials say that the unusual rescue is a reminder that coyotes can turn up In just, um, about anywhere, including places that weren't apparently even, uh, a mouse would need a GPS. So there you go. A 21-year-old man from Nova Scotia has officially turned multitasking into extreme sport. Saul Hafting solved 211 Rubik's Cubes while bouncing a pogo stick, smashing the previous record of 65. He originally set the record at the age of 16, and now his unusual achievement has earned him a spot in the Guinness World Records 2027 book. Saul, uh, says that he's thrilled to finally see his name in print, and honestly, after solving 211 cubes while, uh, bouncing Sitting still to read a book might, uh, be his biggest challenge yet. Meanwhile, I lose my balance putting on my socks. So there you go. So I stopped wearing socks. No, seriously, that's not a joke. So there you go. A lot of stuff going on right there. I mean, what do you think? Okay, what else do I got for you before we get into, um, into the The really juicy stuff, if I may. Well, let me tell you this one. A new study out of Spain suggests that while most people— while most pets, excuse me, help kids' mental health, cats may be the one exception, but only at a specific age. Researchers followed nearly 2,000 mother-child pairs and found that their kids who had cats between the ages of 4 and 5 are more likely to show emotional issues and behavior problems by the ages of 7 and 8. These include anxiety, worry, disobedience, hyperactivity, and trouble with peers. The new study shows that cats cause the problems. Families with children who already struggle may choose cats because they're lower maintenance, and cats' more independent nature may make emotional bonding harder for some kids. Meanwhile, kids who grew up with less common pets like rabbits hamsters, fish, turtles, salamanders had fewer, um, internalizing issues later on. Dogs and birds didn't seem to affect mental health either. Researchers stressed that, that it isn't cats are bad verdict. Other studies show that cats can help kids with autism build empathy and reduce anxiety, and strong cat-kid bonds can improve teens' quality of life. So what do you think? It's like, is the cat bad or is the cat good? I can't tell. No, seriously, it's kind of got weird there as we are talking. Anyways, 32 minutes past the top of the hour, so let's do it. Here is our main story on the Rated R Safety Show. I always think it's interesting when we get to this point because we have to talk about it. We have to talk about all of the things that occur inside of the multiverse. We have to talk about some of the things— and I shouldn't say all of the things, but we have to talk about some of the stuff that you normally wouldn't want to talk about. But it's stuff that we need to, um, focus on, that's for sure, opposed to it just being a rando, a rando conversation about anything else. So with that being said, let's talk about some plans here for a moment. Let's talk about when you go into an organization, or even the organization that you work at, and you take a look around at some of the stuff that's happening. So you have to look at it and go, isn't this weird, in regards of some of the stuff that happens? Isn't it weird that some of these things that we have to take a look at, we have to look at in regards of the world, of how things should happen? So isn't it weird that some of the times of the stuff that we, uh, take a look inside of the world and we take a look and go, hey, doesn't life make sense when we move forward? But not always does it. Remember that you are looking inside of your systems, inside of your workplace, and you go, okay, This is set up for it to work perfectly. That's how these plans are structured. Because let's just be realistic— and I shouldn't say they're structured that way, that's just the belief system that they're structured that way— people will sit back for a moment and go, okay, we are looking at some of the stuff that's here, we are looking at some of the stuff that needs to go on, we are looking at some of the stuff that needs to happen. And, uh, we go, oh yeah, world— the world is perfect. But here is what I need to tell you. This is the big cooker-ooker. When you really take a look at it, it's the suspension of disbelief that happens most of the time. It is the suspension of disbelief That you have to look at and go, okay, because without any of this, the program or the plan does not work. I'll put it to you in other terms here, just to kind of simplify it a little bit more. You know when you go to the movies and you're watching a superhero movie in particular, you're watching a sci-fi space movie, You are watching a something out of the ordinary that you know well. Okay, maybe in my level of reality, this doesn't make any sense. That is what I call suspension of disbelief, because that is the rule. That is the rule. You are aware that there is some shit that's happening inside of the organization that there is no way. And I mean— No way. That it will ever work. And the people sometimes that put that stuff together know that. Sometimes they actually do believe that it would actually work. And that's the hard part. When we start talking about black line and blue line, work imagined as work, and then versus work performed. Or as executed, it becomes a difficult thing. And this is where those conversations need to collide. They need to go together. They need to have the convo of everything that should be happening. And that's where it gets strange because suspension of disbelief becomes a Very important aspect to some of the writing that occurs sometimes inside of the organization. You are aware that somebody either paid a consultancy, somebody paid, uh, a company per se, and they already had these generic terms that they decided to use for Exposition inside of the organization, just how it goes. And someone said, let's use that. Or someone said, huh, we are going to copy this information and drop this in here and see how it goes and alter it as, as it should be. Now, let's be realistic. For the longest period of time, nobody's been altering shit. They've been taking a book, copying it, and dropping it into Your mechanisms of the organization and said, this is going to work. But don't worry, here's the weird part about the whole thing. When you decide to do that, when you decide to move forward with that, when you decide to use those things, they still have to be tested. They still have to be looked at. I know that there is someone who sits inside of your corporate office that quote unquote is the company guru of what is going on. Sometimes that guru can be the misinformation officer. And yes, I did say that correctly, misinformation person. So that is what you need to think about. Just because something is written does not mean that it's correct, or you have to actually Suspend some things in your brain for things to work. And this is why we need to have more and more conversations about where the possible next failure could be inside of your system. This is where we should start having conversations of maybe we get rid of the shit that doesn't work and start applying the stuff that does work. And listen, sometimes you need to break away from some of that mechanisms that are inside of your organization that make absolutely no sense, make no sense. And that's where I get hung up sometimes of why do we need to look at stuff and have the suspension of disbelief to go, oh yeah, that will work when we kind of already knew from the very beginning that some of that stuff that was planned out in the first place was never going to work.
