And here’s today’s news from Rail Technology Magazine in association with TransCity Rail – on Tuesday the 16th July 2024.

A new HS2 bridge near Kenilworth is one step closer to completion following the installation of its concrete beams.
83 beams weighing a total of over 1500 tonnes have been installed during the construction of the Carol Green rail bridge, which will carry HS2 services over the existing West Coast Main Line.
Laid horizontally, the beams form the deck of the bridge structure that will be used as part of the high-speed rail line.
Once complete, the Carol Green bridge will measure 91 metres in width and 7.5 metres in height, spanning over 20 metres. Full completion of the bridge is expected in Autumn 2025, following the installation of parapet walls and acoustic barriers.

The West Yorkshire Combined Authority has opened a public consultation into possible routes for West Yorkshire Mass Transit phase one.
Phase one of the new transport system will create a better connected and greener West Yorkshire with the introduction of a tram network, with routes in central and south Leeds and a new link between Leeds and Bradford.
The proposals presented by the Combined Authority also outline a sustainability strategy concerning the delivery of a new Mass Transit network and protecting the long-term needs of the environment, society and the economy.

The second platform at Hartlepool Station has reopened for the first time since 1990, thanks to a £12 million overhaul supported by the Tees Valley Combined Authority, Network Rail, Northern and Hartlepool Borough Council.
Accessibility has also been enhanced, with the installation of a 53-tonne footbridge complete with lifts.
Prior to the station’s renovation, statistics showed that it was already one of the busiest single-platform stations in the UK, with more than 650,000 journeys taken each year.
The new platform has created more capacity on the Tees Valley network and has opened up the opportunity for better links between Darlington and Hartlepool and improved journey times between Teesside, Wearside and Tyneside.
