What is Stewart Vickers AI?

The audio edition of the Stewart Vickers AI YouTube channel. Each episode takes one AI release - a model, a tool, a price cut - and translates it into money for business owners: what got cheaper, who got undercut, and what to do about it this week. Operator credibility over theory, specific numbers over vibes. Every episode links the original video and the free Church of SEO Jesus community where the prompts and workflows live.

An AI project you have never heard of shipped a new release last night, 180,000 stars on GitHub. 34 just made that bill optional. Release candidate 1 dropped hours ago. The gap between what a $2,000 tower under your desk can do and what your chat GPG team subscription does closed further. Your competitor who moves this week gets a $2,640 head start. Ollama is the piece of software that lets you run open source AI models on your own hardware.

No IPI key, no subscription, no prompts leaving the building. 34 release candidate 1 landed on the public repository overnight, signed with GitHub's verified signature. The change log is not out yet, but the commits log tells you what changed. MLXRunner picked up structured output support, which is the feature that lets your developer force the Modal to return clean JSON your app can actually use. The Lamar C++ engine bumped to build B10630, which is roughly a 10-15% speed lift on the same chip, and the documentation now covers Claude desktop, which means Anthropix's own client will talk to your local Modal like it talks to Claude. Translate all of that.

The engine got faster, the output your app receives got cleaner, and the client most developers already use for Claude will now point at a folder on your own hard drive instead of Anthropix meter. Five seats of chat GPG team runs $125 a month. Five seats of copilot business runs $95 a month. Add them, $220 a month, $2,640 a year, and it climbs every time you hire someone. One workstation that can serve those same five people locally costs around $2,000 once, you save $640 in year one, and $2,640 every year after. So the answer to the question the title asked, yes.

34 replaces the paid subscription this week, your finance person will thank you. Before the proof, one ask, Ollama drops a new build almost every week, and I cover each one the day it ships. Subscribe and the next release finds you, instead of you finding it after your renewal already charged. The exact install commands and the workstation spec I use sit in the pinned comment right below. And the Church of SEO Jesus, my free school community linked in the description, is where operators post their real before and after invoices from cutting local. Here is the proof this is real, I ran a live check against the GitHub API two minutes before recording, 180,186 stars, 17,701 forks, last push zero hours ago, not a hobby project.

Ollama is one of the most watched pieces of infrastructure software on the planet, and it runs on the laptop you already own. Watch what I did, I asked the GitHub API what actually shipped in this release. The RC notes are not published yet, so I diffed the commits against the previous stable version. 15 commits, three of them matter to a business owner, mlxrunner adds structured output, which is the difference between a Modal that spits paragraphs and a Modal your CRM can talk to. The Lamar C++ engine version bumps, which is how the whole thing runs faster on your existing chip without you doing anything. And the Claude desktop integration doc, which means every prompt your team currently sends to anthropic can be pointed at a folder on your own hard drive tonight.

Now the bill. copilot business at 19 a seat, $44 PR user PR month, $220 a month, $2,640 a year, and it grows the day you hire the sixth. Now the workstation. A single tower with a decent GPU and 64 gigs of RAM runs around $2,000 once. Year 1 you save $640, year 2, 3 and 4 you save the full $2,640. 10 person team, double the savings.

20 person team, you are looking at over $10,000 a year of recurring cost that becomes a one-time CapEx line on your balance sheet. Fair warning, local models are not GPG 5 or Claude Sonnet 4. Five at everything, complex agentic tool use, long context legal review, and the top tier of coding still lean on the frontier AP is. ai, drafting first passes, summarizing documents, internal knowledge chat, sales enablement, meeting notes, boilerplate code. About 80% of what your team actually types into a chat window during the day. The other 20% stays on the paid API for now.

Split your budget, bring the 80% home, keep 20% metered, your bill drops 80%, not 100%, still worth the afternoon. You do not have to take my word for any of this. com slash ola ma slash ola ma slash releases yourself right now. 0 at the top of the list. Look at the verified signature badge next to the commit hash. Look at the star count in the top right corner.

The proof is on your screen, not me telling you. $2,640 a year, every year, back in your account. Here is what you send your developer on Monday morning. Two sentences. Install ola ma on the office workstation, pull the latest MLX supported Modal, and point our Claude desktop instances at the local endpoint instead of the anthropic API. Report back by Friday with a list of which prompts stayed local and which failed.

Copy that message, paste it in Slack. Your developer will know exactly what you mean, and by Friday you will know which line items on the AI invoice die. Who loses when this ships? OpenAI's PR-seat business tier and github copilot's team plans. Their moat was never Modal quality, it was distribution, and the assumption that non-technical owners did not know a free alternative existed, now you know. Your competitor, who read the same github page an hour before you did, is already halfway through the migration.

The window between a release candidate landing and mass adoption is measured in weeks, not months. You have the weeks, use them. Next up on the channel, I ran the same math against a 5-person marketing agency, paying for chatgpt+, jasper, descript, and runway. The number I got made me stop and rerun the spreadsheet three times, and the last tool on that list, they cannot actually replace. Watch it now.
