What is ...But God?

A weekday morning devotional series written by Aaron Marcarelli and hosted by Chad McBeam

“By faith Noah, being warned by God about things not yet seen, in reverence prepared an ark for the salvation of his household, by which he condemned the world, and became an heir of the righteousness which is according to faith.”
Hebrews 11:7 NASB2020

All of these stories of the Heroes of the faith are awesome. Noah and his family were the only ones that found favor with God. “These are the records of the generations of Noah. Noah was a righteous man, blameless in his generation. Noah walked with God.”
Genesis 6:9 NASB2020
Then God told Noah that because he was righteous he was going to save him and his family from the destruction of the earth. But God had Noah do something that in the eyes of the world was really crazy. God told Noah to build a huge boat, that would not only house his family but all the animals of the earth.
“Then God said to Noah, “The end of humanity has come before Me; for the earth is filled with violence because of people; and behold, I am about to destroy them with the earth. Make for yourself an ark of gopher wood; you shall make the ark with compartments, and cover it inside and out with pitch.”
Genesis 6:13-14 NASB2020
God gives Noah the exact specifications for the Ark and Noah did as God commanded.
I find it interesting that not once does it say that Noah had doubts or questioned God. In fact two times the Bible says Noah did what God told him to do. At the end of Genesis 6 verse 22 the Bible says “So Noah did these things; according to everything that God had commanded him, so he did.”
Then again in chapter 7 verse 5 the Bible says “So Noah acted in accordance with everything that the Lord had commanded him.”
The Bible is really good about showing people of God to be fallible when they are. There are lots of times when the Bible records people of faith having doubts. (Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, Samuel, Ruth, David, Peter, and Thomas) just to name a few. However, at no time is there a recording of Noah doubting God.
When we are truly walking with God, seeking and serving His will it is easy to do what He asks. Even though what he asks may seem outlandish and far fetched according to the world. God calls us to Himself always. Draw near to Him, read His word, pray to know His perfect will. It is so much easier to serve Him when we are tuned to His voice and His soft whispers and His taps on the shoulders. It is so much easier on us when we listen to the taps and the whispers, because He will turn up the volume and He will give us the proverbial whack on the head.
Noah had that right relationship with God, he listened and followed God’s instructions and it was that faith that allowed God to work in and through him.
Let’s be a tuned to God’s voice. Have faith! Seek Him! Know Him! And He will give you rest and peace in all your decisions.
Lord, thank you for giving us the example of Noah. Thank you that he served you first. Help us to do so as well. Help us the hear your whispers and aqueous to your taps on the shoulder. Thank you that we get to have a relationship with you through Christ. We ask all these things in Jesus Name Amen…
