[0:00] Hi there, everyone. Welcome back to Work Less, Earn More. I'm your host, Gillian Perkins. And today I'm joined by guest Gabe Cox. So Gabe Cox is normally one of our success coaches. I mean, she's one of our success coaches now too. But she's also managing our upcoming virtual conference. So we're going to be hosting a conference at the end of October called Start, Scale, Succeed. This will be our second year doing it. And I thought it would be great to have her come on the show today and tell us all about the conference. Just give us all the details. You can attend for free and from the comfort of your own home. [1:20] Yeah, it's great to be here. Thanks for having me.

Gillian:
[1:22] Yeah, for sure. So we've got this conference coming up at the end of October. I'm really looking forward to it. I know that you have been doing a masterful job and pouring so much time and effort into making it be just like the best and biggest online conference it could possibly be.

Gillian:
[1:38] So I can't wait to hear all the details about it and share them with the listeners as well. So I'm going to pass the mic over to you and you can give us the basic rundown.

Gabe:
[1:47] Yeah, absolutely. So I'm really looking forward to this conference. It's shaping up to be some really juicy stuff. So I would say gold for business owners and The Start Scale Succeed Conference is really meant for business owners who maybe haven't made their first $100,000 online yet. Maybe that's their goal, or they just really want to learn actionable growth strategies that work right now. Because obviously, the online landscape, it's changing all the time. And so what's working now and what's going to work well for your business? Or you just want to have some sustainable and efficient ways that support your work-life balance as well, that support your health, that support your family and support ways of doing business well for you. And so that's kind of what this is all about. We've actually gathered about 18 speakers now, plus some because Gillian's gonna be speaking each day live. We'll talk about that in a minute, but really what they're going to do is teach you those actionable strategies to scale. So start, scale, and succeed with your business. And by the end of the conference, you're going to know exactly what you need to do to grow your business with ease and to be able to scale faster and really just succeed as a digital entrepreneur in 2025 and 2026.

[3:07] Tell us, Gabe, the dates of the conference because it's coming up pretty soon.

Gabe:
[3:11] So the dates of the conference, October 21st through the 23rd. It's a Tuesday through Thursday. So last year, we did the conference. We hosted it completely live, which was an adventure and it was super fun. But we actually went to our community and asked what they wanted for this year. And most of them, probably I would say 95% of them said it would be fun to have it be hybrid. They loved the live, but they also wanted to be able to do some of it on their own time. So we're bringing it hybrid to you this year as well. And what that looks like is that we're going to have a ton of live events throughout the three days together. And the goal of those live events is to really give you that connection, to be able to network with other entrepreneurs, to learn from the speakers live, to get some training and teaching live. We know that everyone has full schedules. So we wanted you to be able to make the most of hearing from each speaker because they're all bringing something different to the table.

Gabe:
[4:11] So the speaker presentations are going to be released each morning. You're going to get about five or six speakers and you can listen to them throughout the day and actually throughout the week. There is no time limit on it. We're not doing like it expires in 24 hours. Go listen now. The conference, as they release, everything will be available to you throughout that week. So that way you can listen in, learn, take notes, listen in different ways who you want to listen to. And then you can come back in the afternoon and we'll have a live speaker panel for those that were released in that day. So we can ask real-time questions and get some more depth from the speakers as well.

[4:48] Yeah, for sure. So the conference, as you said, has three days.

Gillian:
[4:52] It's going to be Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday. And the conference is called Start, Scale, Succeed. And each of those days of the conference matches up with one of those words. So the first day is all about getting started. Second day is about scaling your business. And Thursday is about succeeding with your business. So with that first day starting it is more geared towards I would say beginners and getting started with your online business but it's not just for beginners because even if you have been in business for quite some time there's only so much time in a day right we only have so much time to do so many things so there might be some new strategy you want to take on maybe you've been running your business and why don't I but you're thinking about getting started with Facebook ads or getting started with Instagram or getting started with AI or getting started with a sales funnel or something like that. So there will still be things there for you, even if you are at a more advanced stage with your business. If you're open to learning new things,

Gillian:
[5:48] trying new things, that day will be good for you too. On day two, when we are talking about scaling, we're going to be talking about things like using automations and systems to scale your business, using ads to get more leads into your business and different traffic strategies like content marketing strategies, all sorts of things just related to like growing your business.

Gillian:
[6:09] On day three, when we talk about succeeding, that has kind of two different parts. One is some more advanced business topics like hiring people and growing your team, but also mindset topics. And so even if you're not at an advanced stage with your business yet, if you are a beginner, still come for the mindset and for also learning some things that will be helpful to you in the future with your business. Do you have anything you want to add to those three days, Gabe? Or maybe you could tell us about some of the topics and speakers that will be on each of those days.

Gabe:
[6:41] Yeah, so I was thinking about that as you were talking, going, oh my gosh, day one, you're not gonna wanna miss even if you are not a beginner because there are some juicy topics there. So we have a few really fun talks planned for you. And one of them on day one is called, well, it might not be called this, but it's AI famous. So how to get found and recommended by ChatGPT. I didn't even know that was a thing, but apparently you can be searched on ChatGPT. So like, how do you get yourself out there in that way? So that's something really neat that's coming out. And also, Sarah NoCAD is going to be here talking about how to be the OBM, so the online business manager of your business until you can hire. Because a lot of times we aren't able to hire right away with the budget that we have. But it's also important to understand the logistics of business, how to run the business, how to be efficient, how to be able to do the things or pass them on. And also, Jock Hopkins is going to be here talking about scaling a non-make-money course to $4 million. So I know that sounds kind of like, what does that mean? But essentially, how do you scale your course now in 2025? How can you make money with courses? Because courses aren't dead. And so I would say day two...

Gillian:
[7:55] Before you get to day two, let me just say about day one, that first topic you were talking about, the AI famous topic. I'm really curious about that one, too. So I didn't know this was a thing either until kind of recently, a couple months ago, a couple different people told me that the reason they had bought one of my high ticket products was because ChatGPT had recommended me to them as a good coach for them, which I thought was so interesting. I was just like, wait, what? What's happening here? So I am really interested to learn more about how to make that happen because I didn't do anything to make that happen. But I wonder if there's something I could do to make more of it happen.

Gabe:
[8:38] Yeah, that's so true. I had no idea it was a thing.

Gillian:
[8:41] Crazy. And when Jacques Hopkins talks about scaling his non-make-money course, I think that'll be really interesting as well because a question that I get all the time is, you talk, I, Gillian Perkins, talk about making money online. And so people sometimes say like, well, so of course, it's easy for you to sell your products online. People want to learn that, you know, and there's an obvious kind of like return on investment. But I can't get anyone to buy my course that isn't about making money online. But I know from not my personal experience, but from the experience of so many of my students that it's totally possible and lots of people do it. Lots of people successfully sell courses about totally other topics, all sorts of topics. We especially to see it like with our Startup Society members and whatnot. They've got every topic under the sun and they're able to successfully sell their courses. So I am excited to have an expert come in, somebody who has scaled the course to multi-millions and to share what has really worked for him.

Gabe:
[9:37] Super cool. And day two is going to be filled with a lot about lead generation too. I'm really excited to have Brian Harris here talking about how to land $10,000 clients from other people's audiences. I know something that is really big right now is collaborating, like really having those partnerships, connections, and growing your audience with others. And so he's really going to help break that down a little bit for us. That's something that I've loved leaning into. I know, Gillian, you're leaning into that quite a bit here. It's a great lead generator, especially if you're starting from zero or limited audience.

Gillian:
[10:13] Yeah, for sure. That's a great topic. I've heard Brian give that presentation a couple times in the past, and it's a really good one. I remember the first time I heard it, I was like, I had several epiphanies and I always have seen that when I've heard him give that presentation since, seen in the chat with people saying like, wow, never thought of that, that sort of thing. So it's a really good one. Looking forward to hearing it again.

Gabe:
[10:36] And we have quite a few talks on using Pinterest, repurposing content on there as a marketing generator, using Facebook and Instagram ads and how to do that to skyrocket your business. So if you've been curious about ads, Monica Louie is going to be here sharing about that. I am going to be sharing about how to do business without social media. So if anyone's curious about marketing without social media, I'm not on social for anything. Life or business and I can market without it. And that's a little, we'll be leaning into that with Brian Harris has talked to you, but it's kind of a fun, hot topic these days.

Gillian:
[11:11] Yeah, for sure. So day two, we've got several different like marketing and scaling strategies lined up you aren't going to want to do all of them 100 don't do that but it'll be kind of a buffet of the day or like a menu you know where if you need a new way maybe you don't have a way right now or maybe the way you've been doing it just isn't cutting it to get more leads into your business so that you can land more customers you can come on day two you can listen to all the talks and you can choose the one that It really is going to make the most sense with your business strategy, with your personal goals, with your lifestyle goals that go along with your business goals. Because what works for one person, one personality, one business is very different than what works for another person.

Gabe:
[11:56] Yep, exactly. Yeah, you can't do everything at once. It's about testing. Let's test the things and find the things that work for you.

Gabe:
[12:02] If it doesn't work, great. Try something different. You know, day three, we're going to dive into kind of the mindset behind a successful business and also just growth strategies. And I'm super excited. Tara Wagner is going to be here. She's going to be talking about why most entrepreneurs never hit six figures plus. So we're going to really go into mindset there. But then also like how to succeed without complex systems or hundreds of offers. Like, can you succeed with just one thing or two things that are your main things? And then also if you're curious, especially if you're a service-based business, If you're curious about what that looks like, scaling and growing, creating that agency model. If you've ever thought about that, Tasha Booth is going to be here sharing some strategies to turn your solopreneur service-based business into a full-scale agency. And I kind of look forward to hearing more about that.

Gillian:
[12:51] Yeah, for sure. We've got so many good speakers lined up, and I'm really excited to hear so many of them. Some of them are presentations that I've heard before, and we asked them to come to the conference because they were just so good. And then some of them I've never heard before, and I'm excited to hear them for the first time. So could you tell us, Gabe, a little bit about the daily schedule for the conference? You mentioned that we're doing this hybrid model.

Gillian:
[13:16] There are these different talks that are being released each day. We've also got a schedule lined up for each day. So tell us a little bit about that.

Gabe:
[13:23] We do. We do. So every morning you'll get an email with the day's events and then also with the talks that are being released that day. So those talks you'll get to listen to throughout any time. So if you're a morning person like me, you may get up early and be listening to them right away. Or if you're a night owl, you might listen to them after all the live events are done. But we're going to kick off at 9.30 a.m. Pacific time with a kickoff call with Gillian and myself. We will have a lot of fun there. We're going to be giving away prizes, talking about how the day is going to run. We may do some fun trivia. You never know. So you're going to need to come live to that because it's a really, really great way to connect. Also, Gillian, you're going to be sharing your talks. You have three talks, one for start, one for scale, and one for succeed. That's going to happen directly after that kickoff call. So we will just get some inspiration, some strategy, all of that right there live.

Gabe:
[14:18] Do you want to share a little about what those talks are going to be?

Gillian:
[14:22] Yeah, we could do that. I don't know how Gabe convinced me to give not just three before talks during this conference. That was not my original plan. But she was like, people want to hear from you, Gillian. So that's what's happening this year. I don't know if we'll do this again. But this year, I'm giving four talks. So there will be one on each of the three days. And actually, Gabe, I don't have my notes here in front of me. Do you have the topics pulled up? You want to tell? I do. Maybe you can say what each of the topics is, and then I can talk a little bit about it. So on day one, what is my topic?

Gabe:
[14:50] How to find a profitable product idea.

Gillian:
[14:53] Okay, so in this talk, what I'm going to do is basically break down the process that we teach in our Validate program. Now, of course, in the Validate program, we spend eight weeks doing this with the students and we're not going to be able to do the whole process together, but I am going to teach you what the process looks like so that you can figure out how to find a product that there really is a demand for that not only will be profitable from your first launch, but that you will be able to go on to scale far into the future, scale to six figures down the road. What am I talking about on day two, Gabe?

Gabe:
[15:25] Day two is Scaling 101. What exactly does it mean to scale and how to do it?

Gillian:
[15:30] Yeah, I mean, the title kind of says that, but we're going to talk about like what scaling actually means and different strategies that you can use to scale. And I think that this will be a great talk to kick off day two, because as I was saying about day two, like day two is kind of this buffet of like different strategies you could use to scale your business. But I think that my talk at the beginning of the day will really kind of give you a framework, if you will, some context to help you decide which of these strategies will be the best option for you and kind of wrap your head around what it really means to scale what you're really trying to accomplish with that because there are several different ways in which you can scale your business different levers you can pull I'm going to be breaking that down love it okay and then what's the title for the day three talk game how.

Gabe:
[16:14] To find good people and build a powerful team

Gillian:
[16:16] Yeah so I've been hiring people for my businesses for about 15 years at this point. And I've just had such good success, but also learned a lot through the process, right? Because there have been times when I've struggled to find the right people to hire or struggle to find the right people. Do you know what I mean? Sometimes you find people, but they turn out to be the wrong people. Yeah. And so I've learned some things along the way about how to find the right people, what I'm looking for in people. You know, sometimes you hear the advice of like, hire people who have the same values as you or who share your company's values or something like that. How do you decide what those values should be and how do you find people with those values? And how do you get the people to really like buy into your mission and like be motivated to, serve and support in your company and have their heart in the work that they're doing, right? So we're going to be talking about all those things. What I can say about all three of these topics is that I've got too much planned. I think I have like a half hour spot each morning after the kickoff call. And each of these talks, it could be multiple hours long. So we're going to speed and spread and just fit as much as we can. But there's going to be so much good stuff in all of them. I'm sure I'll go a little over time on all of them, but not too much because I don't want to put us behind schedule for the whole rest of the day.

Gabe:
[17:44] Yeah, it's all good. Well, we don't have anything live right after that. So we'll be good if there's a little wiggle room. After Gillian's talks. We'll be taking a break for late morning, early afternoon. You guys can listen to the talks from other speakers. And then at 2 p.m. Pacific time, we will re-engage live again with a speaker interview panel. So we'll bring in the speakers from that day and we'll do a curated interview Q&A. So come with your questions that you have from listening to the talks and I will be interviewing them. And we're going to have just a great time together. And then we'll wrap up together with Gillian and me.

Gabe:
[18:24] Wednesday and Thursday, so October 22nd and 23rd, we're adding in the morning a networking and coffee time before the kickoff call. So it's a great time to come. We'll do some like quote unquote entrepreneur speed dating. So we'll get to know each other really well and be able to see maybe there's somebody that you'll be able to connect with, partner with, collaborate with, right? And so like don't miss those because it's a great way to just meet others who are doing something similar, completely different, you'll be able to work with them in some way. So that's something that we will be doing on the other two days. Now, we do have a few other live events, and those are for those who upgrade to the Scale Pass. We can talk a little bit about the Scale Pass in a minute if you want to, Gillian. But the first day, these are going to happen in the afternoon after the wrap-up, directly after, so about 3.30 Pacific time. The first day, we are going to do a networking event together. And then we'll get to do some connection time as well. The second day, this is where Gillian's fourth talk comes in. You do have to have the scale pass for it. But she's going to do a revenue rehab workshop.

[19:40] And it's called Fix Your Funnel in 60 Minutes. That's going to be really fun. Maybe I'll have you tell a little bit about it and give a little sneak peek. But then the third day, Thursday, we're going to do a VIP, like a scale pass participant mastermind and co-working. And the whole idea behind that is there's a lot of information that you're going to get through the three days. It's going to be like drinking through a fire hose, right? And so what we're going to do is we want an implementation time. We want time for you to really sift through that? What are the marketing strategies you want to use? What scaling strategies, like all of that? What is it that you want to do? What's that next right step for you? And then let's put that together into a plan that you can take action on. Your business isn't going to grow with the knowledge that your business is going to grow with the implementation. So we want you to have some good marching orders to be able to go out and do something with it. So I'm really excited about all of the live events we have planned. The goal was really to make it an event, an experience, a big conference for

Gabe:
[20:39] you where you have everything that you need. Now, going back to Wednesday, the revenue rehab, do you want to give a little sneak peek of what that is going to be?

Gillian:
[20:49] Yeah, so we're going to spend an hour together. We're going to go over how to diagnose what is wrong with your sales funnel, whether it's an automated sales funnel or not. If your business is selling anything, you have a sales funnel. You've got those different stages that your buyers have to go through. First, they have to discover you. Then they have to engage and learn more about you, become a lead. And ultimately, you have to close them and turn them into a paying customer, right? Then you have to retain them as a customer, probably, and make sure that they don't ask for a refund. So we're going to talk about all those different stages and how to, like I said, diagnose what is wrong with your funnel that is preventing it from making more money and how to fix those problems. We're also going to pull in some case studies. So it's going to be a really good time. One of my favorite things to do is just like kind of nerd out about sales funnels and figure out how to get your business making more money. So I'm really looking forward to that.

Gabe:
[21:42] I love it. I love it. So I mentioned those few live events at the end of the day and that you have to have a scale pass for that. So the conference is completely free. So I cannot wait to see so many of you there. Last year, I think we had about 14 or 1500 people register. So I'm hoping we have that many or even more again this year.
