Sandals Church Podcast

Pastor Fredo meditates on Psalm 62 today, where David finds rest and hope in God alone, even in the midst of adversity. This psalm speaks to the importance of placing our trust in God's unshakable strength. Reflect on how God has been your rock and take time to pray for greater trust in His provision.

Pastor Fredo Ramos:

We continue praying the Psalms, we come to Psalm 62 today. David again writes, I wait quietly before God for my victory comes from him. He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress where I will never be shaken. What confidence to David. So many enemies against one man, all of them trying to kill me.

Pastor Fredo Ramos:

To them, I I am just a broken down wall or a tottering fence. They plan to topple me from my high position. They delight in telling lies about me. They praise me to my face, but curse me in their hearts. Many of you and I, we know we know people like that.

Pastor Fredo Ramos:

Verse five, let all that I am wait quietly before God, for my hope is in him. He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress where I will not be shaken. My victory and honor come from God alone. He is my refuge, a rock where no enemy can reach me. Oh, my people, trust in him at all times.

Pastor Fredo Ramos:

Pour out your heart to him, for God is our refuge. Common people are worthless as a puff of wind, and the powerful are not what they appear to be. If you weigh them on the scales, together they are lighter than a breath of air. Don't make your living by extortion or put your hope in stealing. And if your wealth increases, don't make it the center of your life.

Pastor Fredo Ramos:

God has spoken plainly, and I have heard it many times. Power, oh God, belongs to you. Unfailing love, oh Lord, is yours. Surely, you repay all people according to what they have done. By way of reflection, I love a few things that are repeated in Psalm 62.

Pastor Fredo Ramos:

First David says that he will wait quietly before God. How do you and I tend to wait before God, especially in the light of people who we know are coming against us, or those who have strategies to maybe speak kindly to our faces, but not, when they are away from us? He then also says twice in verse six and earlier in verse two that God is his rock and his source of salvation where he will not be shaken. So I love the the the duality of what's happening. David is both in a circumstance where he can be shaken and yet in prayer is declaring that he will not be shaken, and that's because he's waiting patiently on the God who will deliver him.

Pastor Fredo Ramos:

He then zooms out in the rest of this Psalm to give direction to people. So he's able to direct people where he himself has gone. In light of what he's working through, in light of his ability to learn to be quiet and to wait quietly for God, he's now turning to others and saying, look, you can do the same thing. Whether people are low or high in their life, they all in the end will weigh the same. So if your wealth increases, he says, don't put your hope there.

Pastor Fredo Ramos:

Right? So he kinda zooms out and says, regardless of how your life might go, regardless of how your day might go, two things are abundantly true that God or that David wants to make plain to us. First, that power ultimately belongs to God, not to our wealth, not to our high standing. And then unfailing love is ultimately his too. So even in the light of you feeling insecure in your relationships today, even in light of you struggling to to understand what people might be trying to do against you, both power and an and unfailing love belong to God.

Pastor Fredo Ramos:

And because of that, we can wait quietly for him to do his work in us and through us. And Jesus, that's what we commit to you in prayer. We hear you inviting us to once again find unfailing love and power only in you today. We need your strength today, and we need your love today. In the face of those who might not give it to us, in the face of those who might hurt us, Lord, by the power of your spirit, would we feel your unfailing love at work in our lives today?

Pastor Fredo Ramos:

We pray in Jesus' name. Amen.
