Welcome and thank you for joining me today. Let's explore a passage from the Tanya that touches upon a challenge we all face: the struggle between our higher and lower selves.
In the mystical text of Tanya, the Alter Rebbe speaks of the two souls within each of us: a G-dly soul and an animal soul. The G-dly soul yearns for spirituality, for connection with the divine, while the animal soul seeks physical pleasure and self-gratification.
This daily battle is exemplified in Chapter 9, where the Alter Rebbe describes the animal soul as originating from kelipah and sitra achra, the forces that conceal G-dliness. The G-dly soul, however, is a "chelek eloka mimaal," a literal part of G-d above.
Now, here's the relatable part: we often feel torn between doing what's right and giving in to our baser instincts. When we choose to engage in Torah study, prayer, and mitzvot, we are empowering our G-dly soul. Every time we resist the selfish desires of the animal soul, we are revealing more divine light in the world.
Remember, the struggle itself is a sign of our deep connection to G-d. It's not about achieving perfection but striving to make choices that elevate our soul and the world around us.
Embrace this journey with both courage and compassion, knowing that each effort is a step towards harmony within and the ultimate unity of creation.
Thank you for tuning in. May your inner struggles lead to outward peace and fulfillment.
