Megachurch pastor Mark Driscoll of Trinity Church in Scottsdale, Arizona, is drawing backlash after a Mother’s Day post on X that linked Mary, the mother of Jesus, to his criticism of Planned Parenthood. Driscoll wrote, “Mary was a teen mom and Jesus had no earthly father. It’s a good thing there was no Planned Parenthood in Nazareth.” Critics quickly pushed back. One commenter, Lizzie, called it “not a good post at all,” saying it was “Offensive to our sister Mary,” while Kenny Burchard of Catholic Bible Highlights blasted the remark as “vile and utterly disgusting.” Conservative Catholic Brent Casteel added, “Calling our Blessed Mother a teen mom is like calling the Ark of the Covenant a cigar box.” Driscoll has long opposed Planned Parenthood, previously describing the group’s origins as “demonic.”

America is gearing up for its 250th birthday with a nationwide wave of celebrations blending “fireworks, festivals and patriotic tributes” with faith, history and spectacle. Reporting by Ryan Foley says many of the events are being coordinated by Freedom 250 in partnership with the White House and the Trump administration, with plans ranging from “mass prayer gatherings on the National Mall” to a traveling exhibit featuring an AI-powered George Washington. Organizers say the semiquincentennial will showcase the nation’s founding and cultural identity through months of programming, including scholarship competitions, the Great American State Fair, the 1776 Presidential Award, and even the Freedom 250 Grand Prix, an IndyCar race planned through the streets of Washington. The effort is designed to commemorate the signing of the Declaration of Independence on a sweeping national scale.

The Southern Baptist Convention’s Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission has marked a major milestone, **delivering its 100th ultrasound** machine through the Psalm 139 Project to Mercy House Pregnancy Resource Center in Elizabethtown, North Carolina. Mercy House Executive Director Megan Knight called the gift “more than just technology,” saying, “I wanted this machine to be something sacred and fully dedicated to the Lord.” Nurse manager Leigh Britt said the machine will expand free ultrasound services for women facing “unexpected or uncertain pregnancies” in Bladen County. The center, launched in 2023, held a dedication prayer service and ribbon-cutting with pastors and community leaders. Psalm 139 Project Director Rachel Wiles says the effort is continuing, with additional machine dedications planned in Virginia, Tennessee and Michigan, including a focus on helping mothers in pro-choice states through its “Across State Lines” initiative.

A Mississippi church is turning to the public for help after a tornado tore through Purvis, ripping the roof off Coaltown Baptist Church, destroying its fellowship hall and Sunday School rooms, and leaving the congregation seeking $50,000 for repairs. Pastor Jimmy Breazeale says, “We are asking for prayers first and foremost,” adding that “any donation, big or small, will go directly toward rebuilding our church home.” Breazeale said the devastation was severe, but “God’s hand of protection was over us” as every person inside survived without injury while members reportedly sang “Amazing Grace” during the storm. State officials say at least 17 people were injured in tornadoes across Mississippi, with about 400 homes damaged. In Bogue Chitto, survivor Dmell Burnes recalled hiding with his daughter as the tornado hit: “The closet was the only thing left.”

The White House has released its 2026 United States Counterterrorism Strategy, warning that alongside cartels and Islamist networks, “violent secular political groups whose ideology is anti-American, radically pro-transgender, and anarchist” are now a top priority. The document says officials will use “all the tools constitutionally available” to identify members, map ties to groups like Antifa, and “cripple them operationally before they can maim or kill the innocent.” The strategy cites the 2025 killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, allegedly by Tyler Robinson, as well as the Minneapolis church and school shooting and the 2023 Covenant School attack in Nashville. It also accuses the Biden-era intelligence community of being “weaponized,” referencing scrutiny of traditional Catholics and school board parents, while President Donald Trump’s administration says it will stop agencies from being used “politically against innocent Americans.”

Louisville, Kentucky, has agreed to pay photographer and blogger Chelsey Nelson $800,000 in attorneys’ fees after a federal court found the city violated her First Amendment rights. Nelson, a Christian photographer, challenged a local law she said would have forced her to create messages celebrating same-sex weddings against her beliefs. The case became a major religious liberty and free speech fight, with Nelson refusing to back down as the legal battle stretched on for years. Supporters say the ruling marks a significant rebuke of government overreach and a victory for conscience rights. At the heart of the dispute was whether the city could compel artistic expression. The court ultimately sided with Nelson, concluding Louisville had unlawfully burdened her constitutional freedoms in a closely watched case with national implications.
