And here’s today’s news from Public Sector Executive – on Wednesday the 21st February 2024.

The Association of Directors of Children’s Services (ADCS) has announced the publication of an updated policy position paper that delves into the current challenges faced by children and their families.
The original paper was published in 2017, with the updated version looking to address what has changed in the intervening seven years, as well as outlining how the ACDS’ recommendations were not acted upon by the government.
The Local Government Association has also responded to the paper, stressing the importance of allowing children to fulfil their potential, as well as allowing councils to have the power to support families.

Liverpool City Council has announced that it has established its budgetary proposals for 2024/25 with a key focus being on investments into supporting social services.
This budget will, according to the city council, serve to support the most vulnerable in the city and its communities, whilst also delivering improvements that come alongside improved financial management.
Part of the budget will see more than £20 million of additional funding being committed to areas such as children and adult social care, tackling homelessness, and the environment.

In a round table discussion this week, local council leaders came together with the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities to discuss how they are taking action against rogue building owners.
this work builds on the work that the government and councils have undertaken recently to ensure that safety work is carried out in a timely manner, improving homes for communities.
One council that showed off its approach to this matter was Newham Council which outlined how it used legal powers to prosecute one owner for dangerous cladding.
