And now Capital Chat on KINY, where we connect you with Juneau and Southeast Alaska's community organizations only on KINY.

Speaker 2:

Hey, it's another Capital Chat, and it's another day with Sharon Gaitman. And today, I learned that there would be a rep from annie kails to talk about First Friday. And imagine my joy and excitement when Colleen Goldrich walked through the door, the owner of annie kails to tell us what we can expect on first Friday, which is tomorrow,

Speaker 3:

which is tomorrow. And yeah, we have an amazing show. So we're we're featuring artist Dave Wetzel of who is an incredible painter. He paints Southeast landscapes and local landscapes and they're gorgeous. They're soft, they're beautiful.

Speaker 3:

And then also some are very sharp and crisp. He has just such a lovely way of showing Juno, particularly like stormy scenes and things like that, where you're just like, Oh yeah, I know right where that is.

Speaker 2:

Were there any snowmageddon scenes?

Speaker 3:

There was one of a driveway. Really? That's crazy. Yeah. But it's beautiful.

Speaker 2:

But beautiful. And do they come in all sizes?

Speaker 3:

Well, these are all originals.

Speaker 2:

So he

Speaker 3:

has, oh gosh, it's I think nine originals that we're showing. And so those are just, you know, them and Yeah, big canvases. And then he also though does have prints and we have multiple prints and he's releasing, I think we did five prints of originals from this show that just, they come in one size. So, I mean, there are different sizes based on what the image is, but yeah. Oh, that is beautiful.

Speaker 2:

Well, yeah. And people need to understand that art and especially the price for art need not be intimidating. There's many things like prints.

Speaker 3:

Yes. Different ways to get it. I mean, Dave even has beautiful cards. So, you know, it's sort of open to everyone. There's a way to enjoy art based on your budget and also just coming in and seeing it too.

Speaker 3:

It's really nice to just come see the exhibit and check it out. We're gonna have our usual snacks and chorizo

Speaker 2:

was stuff like about to ask and will there be food?

Speaker 3:

Yes, yes. I mean,

Speaker 2:

I like to think of myself as a professional eater.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, you know, yes.

Speaker 2:

And so I like to stop by and see what people are serving. Sample everything. But you're serving up, let's just segue for a minute to just annie kails in general. And I did run into her this summer.

Speaker 3:

I mean, She she comes here a few times a year. It's always fun to see Annie. I Oh, always tell people, yeah, there really is an Annie kail

Speaker 2:

or Anne Yeah. And I think it's very cool that her initials are AK. I do too. It works for the store.

Speaker 3:

It sure does.

Speaker 2:

For sure. And so do you. I mean, there was the move a number of years ago. We all held our breath, but you seem to be thriving on Seward Street.

Speaker 3:

We love Seward Street and we love our space in the Goldstein Building. It's really cool. And you know, it's narrower than our old shop, but it is longer and we have a custom framing shop as well.

Speaker 2:

I was just gonna ask you about that.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, allowed us a lot more flexibility in that regard. So Karen Beeson, who's one of our artists, and of course she's She's now for artists. Yeah, she's now Juno famous with all the fun social media we've been doing with Karen. But she is not only an incredible artist who grew up here in Juneau, but she's an excellent framer.

Speaker 2:

Oh, and she's helping you with your framing?

Speaker 3:

She runs the frame shop.

Speaker 2:

We have about two or three minutes left. And I wanna make sure people know that not only is Annie kails an exceptional gallery, but there are so many more things there like, Oh, I just became a grandmother. Could you talk about the baby goods? Oh, sure.

Speaker 3:

Yeah. Our kails kids section we have, and we've got clothes, toys, necessities, things like that, some books and from our artists and things like that for kids. What else is at kails?

Speaker 2:

I

Speaker 3:

should Well, have just was gonna say about the baby stuff. So Lena James is an Alaska based company, although she moved, but she still comes back in the summers. We just restocked Lena James.

Speaker 2:

Okay. She has

Speaker 3:

fantastic bamboo clothing. And so we have candles, bath and bodies, pottery. We just got 10 boxes of Polish pottery in. So that'll be out probably not until So next are coming. Yeah, we've got pumpkins, velvet pumpkins, glass pumpkins, Halloween decor, linens, jewelry, you name it.

Speaker 3:

We have a lot

Speaker 2:

of stuff in there. So let us segue over to again, the location, the time for first Friday, and the fact that you'll be there and people will get to meet you along with David, right? Yeah. Well, so we're at 124 Seward Street. It's from 04:30 to 07:30 tomorrow.

Speaker 2:

Oh, right.

Speaker 3:

Tomorrow. We'll have it hung before. So if you can't make it during the opening, you can come and look, but you know, we won't open sales until 04:30. And then I will not be there. But you're leaving.

Speaker 3:

I'm leaving. I'm leaving this afternoon.

Speaker 2:

Well, I'm glad I got Yeah. To see

Speaker 3:

I'm so sad I won't see the show, but I've seen it.

Speaker 2:

It's beautiful. Well, and you... I'm sure you

Speaker 3:

helped pick the people working. So... Yeah.

Speaker 2:

For sure. Yeah. So, again, thank you for the treat of being here today. I wanna thank everyone for listening and reminding them about First Friday. Yeah.

Speaker 2:

But for now, just drive safely. Keep your lights on.
