Welcome to the Student Activities Online Leadership Toolbox. Today on Inspired Leadership, I will be talking about networking and relationship building. Start by recognizing the importance of relationship in leadership. Strong leaders do more than guide. They connect, engage, and inspire others.
Oluwaseun Adekeye:To lead effectively, you must build meaningful relationships with people around you. Now focus on making people feel valued, acknowledge others, greet them, show interest in their well-being. Small actions like saying hello or asking how someone is doing can create a strong foundation for connection. Next, show appreciation. Thank others for their contributions.
Oluwaseun Adekeye:Recognize their efforts both privately and publicly. Give credit where it is due. When you highlight others' work, you build trust and strengthen relationships. Now shift to networking. Prepare for interactions, approach others with confidence.
Oluwaseun Adekeye:Start conversations by introducing yourself, asking questions, and identifying shared interest. Engage intentionally, smile, break the ice, make small talk, focus on building a connection, not just exchanging information. Create opportunities to connect, reach out to individuals who may be standing alone, invite them to conversations, make your environment more inclusive and welcoming. Commit to listening first and speaking second. Encourage others to share their ideas, build relationship through mutual understanding and respect.
Oluwaseun Adekeye:Recognize that relationship building takes time. Do not treat it as one time interaction. Continue to engage, follow-up and maintain connections over time. As you grow as a leader, strengthen your network, build relationships across teams and communities, use those connections to collaborate, support others and achieve shared goals. And that is it.
Oluwaseun Adekeye:Let's review what was presented today.
