Genecia Alluora: Hello, gorgeous. My name is Genecia Alluora. I'm your host for today. And on this episode, I want to talk about can you be rich and spiritual? Now, today we are looking at a mindset issue that is so fundamental that many of us don't even think about questioning it. It's the idea that you can be either be rich or spiritual. That means you cannot have both. In reality, you can be any rich person you want. You just need to declutter the assumptions that are being wealthy so that often you create those money blocks and then remove them and then decide who you want to be. So ready to blow your assumptions about being rich? Well, let's do this. So where does the rich or spiritual idea come from? You know, gorgeous, there are a lot of really beautiful spiritual traditions out there. Most of them have awesome things to say about treating your own fellow human beings with love and respect and dealing with life, inevitable ups and downs.

Genecia Alluora: When it comes to money, though, things often start to get confusing for people. You probably know the old Bible chestnut about the love of money being the root of all evil. And then there's one about it being easier for a Camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter heaven. It's not just Christianity either. The Prophet Muhammad once claimed that poverty was his pride. And Buddha said that living a pure and selfish life meant not owning anything at all. And the ancient Greek philosopher insisted that contentment came from wanting very little rather than from being wealthy. You see, wow, 2,000 years of messages like those. It's no wonder many of us think we can't be rich and spiritual at the same time. Now, it's not what you've got. It's what you do with it. Look, my dear, I'm not a religious studies scholar, okay? Even though I've gone through school of theology as a Christian. But you know what? I'm not a religious study person, okay? But I suspect that if you look at each of those codes in context and in their original language, the meaning might change a bit.

Genecia Alluora: So I mean, yes, sure. If you walk all over people to build a fortune without carrying who you hurt, and you step on people's back and step on people's shoes to get to climb up the corporate ladder, I mean, that's pretty unspiritual. And then once you have it, if you just focus on getting more in ways that destroy the planet and create widespread suffering, yup, again, that's damn unspiritual. So now I'm not saying that rich people like that don't exist. But can we please take a step back and acknowledge that just one scenario for getting and spending money. What about all the amazing socially conscious philanthropists who have used their money to do amazing work in the world. Like, for example, Oprah Winfrey, who have used her money to found the Worldwide Angel Network, plus a Leadership Academy for Girls in South Africa. Bill and Melinda Gates, who set up the Gates Foundation to give women and children around the world access to education and health services.

Genecia Alluora: The truth is that money doesn't change the person you are in your heart. Instead, it allows you to be more of whoever you already are. I always say this, you have the diamond that is within you and you deserve to shine. So it's time to ditch the either or. Like I said back in the beginning, you can be any rich person you want to be. Either a rich man, a rich woman, a soul rich woman, or a soul rich man. First, though, you need to declutter all the damaging assumptions you have picked up about the way wealthy people have to be. It's like the attitudes of wealth, right? You have to win the money game by first recognizing all the attitudes that you have collected that is detrimental to your success. So here's a practical exercise that will help you to do that. Step one, grab a pen and paper and brainstorm a list of all the negative qualities that can go along with being rich in your mind. For examples, being rich means greedy, selfish, manipulative. You just love money and you dissociate yourself with your emotions when you make money.

Genecia Alluora: Step number two, think about examples of real life rich people who have those negative qualities and let yourself feel whatever it is you feel towards them. Then use the forgiveness mantra to let go of the charge around those feelings. I forgive you. I love you. I thank you. Step number three, finally, for every negative example of a rich person you identified, look for at least one person who is doing awesome things to make a world a better place. So what rich person do you want to be, Soul Rich Woman? Once you have thrown away all those harmful assumptions, it's time to figure out what is beautiful, spiritual, rich version of who you would like to be. So close your eyes right now and imagine the person you love to become if you had unlimited money. Who would you help with all that money? What causes would you donate to? Where would you volunteer your time or your service?
