Immerse: Bible Reading Experience - NLT Daily Bible In A Year

Day 84: Cain and Abel, Descendants of Adam, and Noah's Favor with the Lord

In Day 84 of the Immerse Daily Bible Reading Experience, we explore the story of Cain and Abel, where Cain's jealousy leads to the first murder and his subsequent punishment by the Lord. The script then traces the genealogy from Adam through several generations, detailing the lives of Enoch, Methuselah, and Lamek, and ultimately leading to the birth of Noah. As humanity grows increasingly wicked, the Lord decides to limit human lifespan and contemplates destroying His creation. However, Noah finds favor in the eyes of the Lord. This episode captures the early generations of mankind and sets the stage for the story of the Great Flood.

QUICK START GUIDE
3 ways to get the most out of your experience
  1. Use Immerse: Beginnings instead of your regular chapter and verse Bible. This special reader’s edition restores the Bible to its natural simplicity and beauty by removing chapter and verse numbers and other historical additions. Letters look like letters, songs look like songs, and the original literary structures are visible in each book.
  2. Commit to making this a community experience. Immerse is designed for groups to encounter large portions of the Bible together
for 8 weeks–more like a book club, less like a Bible study. By meeting every week in small groups and discussing what you read in open,
honest conversations, you and your community can come together to be transformed through an authentic experience with the Scriptures.
  3. Aim to understand the big story. Read through “The Stories and the Story” (p. 483) to see how the books of the Bible work together to tell God’s story of his creation’s restoration. As you read through Immerse: Beginnings, rather than ask, “How do I fit God into my busy life?” begin asking, “How can I join in God’s great plan by living out my part in his story?”

Daily Bible Reading Experience.

Day 84.

now, Adam had sexual relations
with his wife, Eve, and she became

pregnant when she gave birth to Kane.

She said, with the Lord's
help I have produced a man.

Later, she gave birth to his
brother and named him Abel.

When they grew up, Abel became a shepherd.

While Kane cultivated the ground.

When it was time for the Harvest,
Kane presented some of his

crops as a gift to the Lord.

Abel also brought a gift,
the best portions of the

firstborn, lambs from his flock.

The Lord accepted Abel and his gift,
but he did not accept Kane and his gift.

This made Kane very angry
and he looked dejected.

Why are you so angry?

The Lord asked Kain, why
do you look so dejected?

You will be accepted if
you do what is right.

But if you refuse to do what
is right, then watch out.

Sin is crouching at the door,
eager to control you, but you

must subdue it and be its master.

One day Kane suggested to his
brother, let's go out into the fields.

And while they were in the field,
Kane attacked his brother Abel

and killed him Afterward, the Lord
asked Kane, where is your brother?

Where is Abel?

I don't know.

King responded, am I
my brother's guardian?

But the Lord said, what have you done?

Listen, your brother's blood
cries out to me from the ground.

Now you are cursed and banished
from the ground, which has

swallowed your brother's blood.

No longer will the ground
yield good crops for you.

No matter how hard you work.

From now on, you will be a
homeless wanderer on the earth.

Cain replied to the Lord, my
punishment is too great for me to bear.

You have banished me from the
land and from your presence.

You have made me a homeless wanderer.

Anyone who finds me will kill me.

The Lord replied, no, for I
will give a sevenfold punishment

to anyone who kills you.

Then the Lord put a mark on Kane to
warn anyone who might try to kill him.

So Kane left the Lord's presence and
settled in the land of Nod east of Eden.

Kane had sexual relations
with his wife, and she became

pregnant and gave birth to Enoch.

Then Kane founded a city
which he named Enoch.

After his son, Enoch had a son named Irad.

Irad became the father of Mahe.

Mahe became the father of meth.

Mele became the father of lame.

Lemek married two women.

The first was named Ada
and the second was Zilla.

Ada gave birth to Jabal, who was
the first of those who raised

livestock and live in tents.

His brother's name was Jubal, the first
of all, who play the harp and flute.

The MXs other wife Zilla, gave
birth to his son named Tubal Kane.

He became an expert in forging
tools of bronze and iron.

Tubal.

Kane had a sister named Nema.

One day Lamek said to his wives,
ADA and Zilla, hear my voice.

Listen to me, you wives of lamek.

I have killed a man who attacked
me, a young man who wounded me.

If someone who kills Kane is punished
seven times, then the one who

kills me will be punished 77 times.

Adam had sexual relations with his wife
again, and she gave birth to another son.

She named him Seth for, she said,
God has granted me another son in

place of Abel whom Cain killed.

When Seth grew up, he had
a son and named him Enoch.

At that time, people first began
to worship the Lord by name.

This is the written account
of the descendants of Adam.

When God created human beings,
he made them to be like himself.

He created them, male and female, and
he blessed them and called them human.

When Adam was 130 years old, he
became the father of a son who was

just like him in his very image.

He named his son Seth
after the birth of Seth.

Adam lived another 800 years and
he had other sons and daughters.

Adam lived 930 years and then he died.

When Seth was 105 years old, he became the
father of Enoch after the birth of Enoch.

Seth lived another 807 years and
he had other sons and daughters.

Seth lived 912 years and then he died.

He, when Enoch was 90 years old,
he became the father of Keenan.

After the birth of Keenan.

Enoch lived another 815 years and
he had other sons and daughters.

Enoch lived 905 years, and then he
died when Keenan was 70 years old.

He became the father of Mahalo
after the birth of Mahalo.

Keenan lived another 840 years and
he had other sons and daughters.

Keenan lived 910 years and then he
died when Mahalo was 65 years old.

He became the father of Jared
after the birth of Jared.

Mahalo lived another 830 years.

And he had other sons and daughters.

Mahalo lived 895 years and then he
died when Jared was 162 years old.

He became the father of Enoch
after the birth of Enoch.

Jared lived another 800 years and
he had other sons and daughters.

Jared lived 962 years, and then he
died when Enoch was 65 years old.

He became the father of Methuselah.

After the birth of Mathusla, Enoch
lived in close fellowship with

God for another 300 years, and
he had other sons and daughters.

Enoch lived 365 years walking
in close fellowship with God.

Then one day he disappeared
because God took him.

When Mathusla was 187 years old,
he became the father of Lemac.

After the birth of Lemek, MATHUSLA
lived another 782 years and he

had other sons and daughters.

Mathusla lived 969 years and then he
died when Lemek was 182 years old.

He became the father of a son Lamek
named his son Noah, for he said, may

he bring us relief from our work and
the painful labor of farming this

ground that the Lord has cursed.

After the birth of Noah Lemack
lived another 595 years, and he

had other sons and daughters.

Lemack lived 777 years, and then he
died after Noah was 500 years old.

He became the father of Shem, ham and Jfe.

Then the people began to multiply on the
earth and daughters were born to them.

The sons of God saw the beautiful women
and took any they wanted as their wives,

then the Lord Saidmy spirit will not put
up with humans for such a long time for

their only mortal flesh in the future.

Their normal lifespan will be no
more than 120 years in those days.

And for some time after giant neite
lived on the earth for whenever the

sons of God had intercourse with women.

They gave birth to children who
became the heroes and famous

warriors of ancient times.

The Lord observed the extent of human
wickedness on the earth, and he saw

that everything they thought or imagined
was consistently and totally evil.

So the Lord was sorry he had ever
made them and put them on the earth.

It broke his heart.

And the Lord said, I will wipe
this human race I have created

from the face of the earth.

Yes, and I will destroy
every living thing.

All the people.

The large animals.

The small animals that scurry along the
ground, and even the birds of the sky.

I am sorry I ever made them, but
Noah found favor with the Lord.
