Hello and welcome to episode four of Moni Talks Tech. And today we have another episode that is really close to my heart because it talks about something that I am struggling with all the time, maybe not particularly in the setting that I'm talking about today, but definitely in every other area of my life. And I'm speaking about shiny object syndrome and I'm gonna speak about shiny object syndrome when it's related to the things you use in your business. But holy, shiny object syndrome raising my hand. Once again, . If I see something on Instagram sometimes and I see other people use it, I am a victim of influencer marketing, 100%.
I see it looks great, somebody has fun with it, I'm gonna buy it or I want to buy it or I want to have it or I need something new and I have new tech. I mean, to be honest, new tech is just the greatest thing in the entire world. So that's that. There's no question about that. I always love getting new tech things, but, in general, I just see something new and sometimes I just want it and then sometimes I buy it and make stupid decisions based on what I think I currently need. I see a lot of people do that with tech as well. And I get it, believe me when I say I get it, because again, I struggle with it in every other area of my life and also sometimes maybe in my business as well. But I do think it's a different aspect when it connects your business and at the same time when it connects with what you need in it as well.
And I know it's really easy to fall into these traps because maybe it's something a friend of yours suggested or maybe you've seen a lot of people talk about it and you think you need this too. And especially in business, I would really take one step back before something like this happens and before you go all in with your money and all in with your business into this one platform that promises you no more worries and everything all in one place. And it's gonna be incredible. Mostly this is crap and it comes with a lot of other issues that you will only figure out once you start doing it. And nobody will tell you that this is what you will have to deal with because also everybody's business is different and everybody wants something else from something. So how can this one platform be the be all, end all of, and the one platform we have waited until for, for ages like the, this one shiny, You know what I mean?
You get where I'm going. And first of all, a lot of this is marketing. Of course the companies know exactly how to get more clients and it's what you preach to your clients as well and is probably how you market yourself as well, which is know, like, and trust factor. So they know they need people that they can get on board that vouch for the tool and which, makes a lot of sense, right? But that doesn't mean that it is necessary and that it's something that will also equally work for you at the same time. And every company does that in one way or the other. And some do it more extensively than others. So for example, if you take ClickFunnels, they have this massive following which is kind of based on the head of the company and this very charismatic guy and he's doing all the things and he's telling you that ClickFunnels is the way that you need to go and he's teaching you on how to make a lot of money.
And he's creating this audience with a lot of events, with a lot of people, with other people who use it a lot, who then get promoted to some kind of ambassador or, or people who can also make additional money with it, obviously because you never just tell anyone about a tool without also getting the affiliate link for it. And again, there's nothing wrong with that, absolutely not. But at the same time, you need to be aware that you are a marketed to that you are getting marketed to. Same thing with Kajabi. Kajabi has the Kajabi heroes. They make the people who started to use it, give them a very important role. And then you become a Kajabi hero when you sell a bunch of different things. So I don't necessarily 100% know how this works. I just know that they out there and they're vouching for the program and for the tool and people jump on it because they're more and more people that jump into the same bandwagon and they all then obviously love it and they can love it.
I'm not saying that it's a tool, definitely not. But maybe there are other things out there that will work better for your business if you only had taken a step back and have looked at what your needs really are instead of putting $200 a month into a tool that you don't even fully use. And the most interesting thing for me in this discussion is also how ready some people are to throw money at a tool and don't give a about how much it's costing you, but then try to save money on service providers. They want them, they need to help them set it all up or help them fill it with content because at the end they kind of figure out that it maybe not be what they wanted and then they need somebody to help them organise, maintain, and, deal with it basically.
Because yes, while it's great and it does lots of things and you can do a lot of lot of stuff with it, is it what you need? Do you need a membership platform, a platform that has your website and your email marketing and your landing pages and your show? Do you need all of this to the degree that you say you do for that price point? Maybe not. Maybe you'd be fine off with a cheaper website. Let's say you have somebody who creates your website and the one off and you have that one and then you have a shopping cart and you just maybe have this one coaching program and you don't even have a course and there's so many aspects to your business that are not automatically solved just because you buy a big fancy tool or a big fancy something. So what am I saying here exactly now.
I'm not saying don't get a certain program. I also won't tell you to only get that one program because maybe it's not right for you. And that's why you need to sit back and take notes of all the necessary things you need and then have a look at what you can do. And this starts from the very beginning. This starts from your onboarding, then it goes to what you offer your clients, what you give to your clients, how you conduct your coaching programs or how you conduct or deliver your services as a service provider. Also how you off board them. There's so much going into all of this. How are your funnels working? And you need to know your process before you are able to make a decision on a tool that you were gonna spend money on for a very long time.
There are two ways that you can waste your money on this. You can either not have anything and do everything manually and waste not only time, but in in consequence also a lot of money into doing everything manually, which not only stunts your growth and the ability to scale into something bigger, but also you have better things to do with your life than enrolling people manually into a course. And also the other bit is people investing too much money into something that they don't need at all or something that has been praised by everyone as such a great thing. And then all of a sudden it turns out it's not so great because you don't need half of the things, but you're still paying 200 euros a month for it to, to do the bare minimum of what you want it to be. So which is why sit down and have a look at what do you want?
If you could be a client of yours, how do you want this process to look like and what do your deliverables look like? How do you deliver your service? How do you deliver your coaching? How do you want to serve your clients? And then have a look at the tools that are available out there. Does that mean that once you've written all of that down, you will get this one answer to your question? Absolutely not. But it will help narrow down what is important and what isn't important. And then you can make decisions based on what you like best. Some people hate Active Campaign, other people love it. Some people hate Convert Kit, other people adore it and other people love MailChimp and they are all wrong . But still we are all different. If we would all like the same things, how sad would the world be?
We would all just love one kind of person or all fall for just one kind of person. We all would eat the same thing. We all would do the same stuff. And we are all not the same. We're so not the same, but at least you will get a better view of what is necessary for you and your business. You will get to know your business better. You will get to know your systems and your structures and your processes better, which every OBM will be delighted by. And you will not waste your money on things that aren't necessary. And it's a bit similar to relationships and marriage. I personally think the idea of this one person that's perfect for you is also bullshit. We have 8 billion people on this planet almost. There are a lot of potential people out there for you.
And I'm not saying we need to throw the towel in after every single disagreement. That is definitely not the case. But in the beginning, you're gonna potentially love the tool you're starting out with. But the longer you know it and the better you get to know it, you will realise that there are some hiccups, there are some problems and over some things you can get over really quickly. And then some other things there are unacceptable for you and you need to leave and you need to change. So like you would do with the relationship, be realistic about it. Yes, you can be all happy gooey at in the beginning and you can love it. And you can be like, think this is the person, the tool for you until the end of days. If it is, this is great and obviously this is great, but sometimes it turns out after a while after you change things after, after you change your business, after you change what you're offering, that maybe you need to switch somewhere else. And that's also totally fine. This is not that the other tool failed you, it's just that you have outgrown it or that you just switch and need something else. And that's also always totally acceptable too.
