Charted

What is Charted?

Like a master surveyor, Jesus gives us clear directions to find a fulfilling, purpose-filled relationship with Himself - a map to the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Charted is a daily devotional written by the junior class at Fountainview Academy (Class of 2019). Based on the book Steps to Christ, this book explores the path to the Originator and Provider of Genuine Joy. We don't have to be confused about the way. The certainty is in the journey: divinely Charted.

How must God esteem the human race, since He gave His Son
to die for them and appoints His Spirit to be man’s teacher and
continual guide! – Steps to Christ, pg. 91
The sun beamed down out of the cloudless, azure sky, tossing
sunbeams onto the sparkling snow. The weather outside was perfect,
starkly contrasting my dismal, gloomy spirit. After three days of trying
to learn to ski and totally failing, I was ready to give up. Collapsing
onto the slushy snow, I resigned myself to enviously watch the
professional skiers and snowboarders effortlessly glide by.
My mom waited patiently a little way down the hill. “Come on,”
she coaxed after a few minutes. “You can do it!” I was just about to
begin the struggle of balancing on the slippery slope again when out
of the corner of my eye I saw a different kind of skier glide around the
corner. My eyes widened in astonishment as I stared at the bright, bold
letters written on the back of the man’s vest: BLIND.
How does he do it?! I wondered, amazed. Another skier
closely followed the first. Both men were wearing headphones, and I
realized that this was how the guide could give him directions.
That takes a lot of trust, I thought. The blind man had no idea
what the slope looked like or who or what might be obstructing his
path. He had to completely rely on the instructions his guide gave him
through the headphones.
Just like that man, I am blind. I cannot see what lies ahead or
what I will encounter along the way. But I, too, have a Guide. Isaiah
30:21 says, “Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, ‘This is
the way, walk in it,’ whenever you turn to the right hand, or whenever
you turn to the left.” God has promised to give me directions, and if I
choose to listen to Him and trust Him, I will be safe.
