Like a master surveyor, Jesus gives us clear directions to find a fulfilling, purpose-filled relationship with Himself - a map to the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Charted is a daily devotional written by the junior class at Fountainview Academy (Class of 2019). Based on the book Steps to Christ, this book explores the path to the Originator and Provider of Genuine Joy. We don't have to be confused about the way. The certainty is in the journey: divinely Charted.
This is the governing power in the nature of man, the power of
decision, or of choice. Everything depends on the right action of the
will. – Steps to Christ, pg. 47
Opening the lid of my computer I slid in my thumb drive
and launched my favorite pastime: League of Legends. Entering
“Summoner’s Rift,” which is the map for the game, I dove into battle.
Working with my teammates, we proceeded down “Summoner’s Rift,”
taking down anyone and anything in our way. We were determined not
to be defeated.
Losing touch with the world around me, I pushed reality further
and further away as I engrossed myself in the world of make-believe.
With one goal in mind, my team and I pushed forward to take down the
opponents’ base. Determination and adrenaline surged through me as
my team and I crushed anything that stood between us and winning.
Dominating the final fight, we finished the game with a smashing
victory.
Leaning back in my chair, my heart still pounding from the
adrenaline, I grinned with satisfaction at my accomplishment, but all
too soon it faded away as just another game played, and an hour had
been wasted in the world of virtual reality.
Closing the lid of my computer, I walked outside, put on
my helmet, and jumped on my dirt bike. Dropping the clutch, gravel
sprayed everywhere as I took off down the road. Breathing in the fresh
air, my brain cleared, and my joy returned, but for a different reason.
My joy had returned, not because of the game I had been playing, but
because I was outside and could finally think clearly.
I started to realize that what I do with my time is my choice.
It’s a choice that I too often don’t take seriously, but when I do take it
seriously, my life improves. Rather than waste my time in the world of
make-believe, I can choose, with the help of God, to tangibly excel in
my battle to advance in the real world.
