Shalom and welcome, dear listeners. Today we're exploring a text from the Tanya, Likutei Amarim, Chapter 41.
Imagine a small flame, flickering in the darkness. That flame is your soul, a piece of the divine, battling the darkness of the material world. This is the metaphor that our beloved author, Rabbi Schneur Zalman of Liadi, uses to paint a vivid picture of our spiritual journey.
The world around us, filled with temptations and distractions, seeks to extinguish our flame. But we mustn't let it. We must nurture it, feed it, and let it grow. The Tanya teaches us that through fulfilling mitzvot, we fuel our flame, allowing it to rise high and bright.
This doesn't mean we should shun the physical world. On the contrary, Rabbi Schneur Zalman instructs us to make use of it. To turn it into a tool for nurturing our flame. Every action, every word, every thought can be directed towards this end. When we eat, we should do so to nourish our bodies, enabling us to perform mitzvot. When we speak, we should do so to share wisdom and kindness.
So, dear listeners, let's take this lesson into our daily lives. Let's fuel our flames, rise above the darkness, and illuminate our surroundings.
Remember, every small flame contributes to a brighter world.
