Challenging myself to record a podcast episode a day for my 50th year on this planet.
Chris: Welcome to Dailyish
for September 16th, 2026.
That's a Wednesday, if you're kinda
unsure of what day I am talking
about when I say I'm recording this.
I'm recording an episode every day for
this is my 50th year on the planet.
Uh, listener Nick let me know that the
date helps because episodes or, where I
am in the challenge doesn't really give
a good frame of reference for where the
episode is actually happening in time
and space, which I agree with I want to
talk about a shower thought today that,
I don't know if it's all that deep, but
it helps me sort of process and think
about this challenge, this podcast.
I need it to be even bigger, my creativity
in general I spend a lot of time with
ideas for things, not just podcasts, but
ideas of things I'd like to do, things
I'd like to achieve, things I'd like
to try, things I'd like to be a part
of, and there's some sort of underlying
thing that I should go to therapy for
that makes me wait around for someone
to ask me to be able to do that thing.
And sometimes genuinely I do need
to have other people involved, and I
really love the idea of collaborating
with people on projects and ideas
and music and writing and whatever.
But waiting for permission from other
people to be able to do that thing has
really limited me in terms of what I will
challenge or let myself do on my own.
So that's part one.
Part two is realizing that sometimes I
need, and you might need, a vehicle for
an idea to be able to actually do it
So for me, in talking podcasts,
I often have ideas for podcasts.
Not necessarily a fully fleshed out
whole version of what a show might
be, but ideas of what it could be.
And I might even take it to drawing it
up, writing up a description, trying
out a few episodes recorded locally.
Might even publish some, but with the
idea that I'm not really doing it.
It doesn't have to happen.
It's not a fully built vehicle
to take this idea and run with
And so in a lot of ways, this
show, this challenge of recording
an episode every day for a year
has given me the vehicle to try.
Try ideas with, plan for an episode in
the future, since I know I have it and
it will happen, and I have this vehicle
to do that with when that day comes.
And so something I hope I can do
over the course of this show is
recognize that, first of all, not
every episode is gonna be amazing.
Not every episode is gonna
be up to some standard that I
might have for the overall show.
Often, if I'm being honest, it's
probably gonna be rushed or late
or even forgotten some days.
And really, it's the body of work
as the entire show that's ultimately
gonna be important, mainly to me But
what having this podcast does is it
gives me a vehicle to try things with.
So as a little sub-challenge to the
main challenge of recording podcast
episodes every day, I'm trying to
push myself to think bigger now that I
have this vehicle to try things with.
What might I wanna try?
How might I wanna experiment with podcast
ideas that I've had when before I didn't
really have a vehicle to try them with?
In the most literal sense, if I wanted
to ride a bike, be a bike rider,
go on a bike ride, I need a bike.
And so in this metaphorical
sense, this podcast is my bike
Anyways, I'm gonna stop there 'cause
the peanut butter sandwich that
I made for myself as a reward for
finishing this episode is sitting
here staring at me in the face.
do peanut butter sandwiches
have faces and eyes?
Anyways, your thoughts on
that and many other things.
Do you have a bike?
Do you ride a metaphorical bike?
Do you have a literal bike?
