Charted

What is Charted?

Like a master surveyor, Jesus gives us clear directions to find a fulfilling, purpose-filled relationship with Himself - a map to the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Charted is a daily devotional written by the junior class at Fountainview Academy (Class of 2019). Based on the book Steps to Christ, this book explores the path to the Originator and Provider of Genuine Joy. We don't have to be confused about the way. The certainty is in the journey: divinely Charted.

Looking unto Jesus, we are safe. – Steps to Christ, pg. 72
“Get out of the water, NOW!” The tense command from our
teacher demanded no argument. Bewildered by her drastic shift in
demeanor, we complied nonetheless.
Moments before, I had found myself perched on the edge of
a pier. Crystal, cerulean waves lapped gently against the side of the
cement, beckoning me. Golden rays fell gently upon my shoulders as
I soaked in the blissful atmosphere. Giving in to the ocean’s irresistible
invitation, I wasn’t dry for very long. Three splashes followed by
laughter could be heard as the scene played out. Everything was at
the peak of perfection: the beach, the weather, and the company. But
little did my classmates and I realize what danger lurked beneath the
calm waters.
As the day progressed, angry clouds cast their shadows upon
the sea, transforming the tone of the scene. Gray monotones reflected
the darkening sky, and the once transparent, silky waves revealed
little light to even reach the shallow, sandy floor. Undeterred, or rather
unaware, the three of us continued to make the most of our trip away
from school. Fortunately, our “lifeguard” had noticed the danger before
we did and pulled us out of jeopardy. Now, safely out of harm’s way,
yet still completely ignorant, my two companions and I immediately
interrogated our teacher’s motives.
“There’s a shark in the water!”
A shiver ran up my spine as I cautiously peered into the
waves. It was a familiar shape, catching my eye immediately. The
long, dark shadow, precise dorsal fin, and blunt, angular head were
hard to miss now that I was gazing, wide-eyed, into the ocean. In
this sinful world, a malicious predator lurks beneath the calm ocean,
preparing to attack its unsuspecting victims. But I don’t have to fear;
I have a Lifeguard who sits on watch, carefully surveying the stormy
ocean. Looking unto Jesus and obeying His warnings, I will be safe
from the jaws of the sinister “shark.”
