Hello. Welcome to the first episode of the New Music Dispatch. I'm the program director here at impact FM, Maggie Heflin, and I'm joined by hello, hello, hello, my name is Sydney Sims. I'm the music director here at the impact. Welcome. This is our this is our new old podcast. Um, this is something that we're kind of rebooting from the past there in the file somewhere, there's old new music dispatches, so I'm excited. This will just be like a rundown of what we have going on at the station, what new music is going on our airwaves this week, which is so fun. New music Monday, new music. Monday. Welcome all! I hope you all are having a great Monday and I hope you all will be having a great Monday with us listening to these new ads. Let's get her started. I want to tell us about the first ad that we have. Yeah. So the first artist that we have is lathe of Heaven by just kidding. That is the that is the hardest name. So up first we have lathe of Heaven. The song is Exodus and the album is Aurora. That's gone and life takes no possession. But when I get opens up to spring. Wow, I like my first impression was just big, big smile from me. No, for real I saw that big smile I've been on. Like I was on a new wave kick. I don't know when the fall hits. Like you were saying, this is such a false song. It's fall. It's fall as heck, um, as heck. Uh, and also like, I felt like it was kind of giving almost like adjacent to, like, eyes without a face, like, you know, kind of vibes. Yeah. Very like gothic new wave. Like, it's just so ish. Yeah. No. And we love the eighties. I don't know, I feel like like you said, fall is for the eighties. Yes. Gotta get nostalgic, because those leaves turn brown. Exactly. Up next, we have Delusion on Sunset Boulevard by Pearly Drops off their new album. The voices are coming back. Calm down when it feels right. When it feels right. And, well, the voices in this were awesome. I love, like, the vocal effect. I could, I call it Vocaloid. I'm not quite sure. Not the biggest Hatsune Miku fan. Don't know much about Vocaloids but like it just made it sound so enchanting. Yes. Yeah, I would have to agree, I was. I thought that it was a little almost dreamy sounding, so yeah, definitely a good add. Yes, I agree, and the synth break that they had like in the middle really changed it up for me. Like it made it like enough to be like, oh, okay, this sounds like a full fledged song. Like, the synth work was really cool. I liked that, definitely. All right. And up next we have two songs by a really good artist. Uh, tops. We have Wheels at Night. First, uh, off of the album Bury the Key. Here, put your clothes next to my. In my condition I'm done. Wishin souvenirs thrown onto the lands. Turn a vision without a mission. Got no business behind. Just like I love tops I absolutely love tops. They have great vocals. Amazing. Just production too. So yeah, I really liked Wheels at Night. I think it's a really great song to put on air. Yeah, it was definitely my favorite out of the two. I was just so impressed. I like can't believe that I've been in the dark from tops. Like, both of these were just so like sonically beautiful to listen to and right up our alley, and I feel like it's right up the Impact's alley. Yeah, like in, like an alternative kind of way. Yes. In an alternative sense. Um, yeah. I loved Wheels at Night, loved the vocals. I mean, I suppose for both, uh, I just love the vocals. And it was so funky and. Wow, like that lead singer, she can sing. She can hit those high notes. Yes. So that was really impressive. All right, up next we have Royel Otis with Torn Jeans off the album Hickey. The blue moon is heavily on my mind. Cause I know that you were bad. And I know I could do better with you. What were your first impressions of this song, Syd? Um, my first impressions were. First of all, hickeys are crazy album. Naughty, naughty. Um, but musically, uh, I thought that it was kind of, like, around the same vibes as like what I would listen to in like twenty fourteen. Um, kind of like dream poppy. Uh, I don't know if you know the song Someone to Spend Time With, but it kind of felt like along those vibes of like, kind of like a dream. Poppy got my guitar, you know, doing the thing. Someone found their first reverb pedal. Exactly. Um, yeah. It just sounds like stuff that I've already heard a lot before, so I suppose I'm tired. I'm tired of it. Like oysters in my pocket, which is their biggest song. Like, Trust Me, I've ran through that song. So I've heard enough of this man's voice a bit. So it wasn't that it's still beautiful and, like, sounds good in my ears. Yeah, yeah, but like a little. I just let out a wee wee yawn. Yeah. We wasn't just. If you like Royel Otis, you'll like this. Exactly. All right, so up next we have Mac DeMarco, the song Phantom off of his new album, Guitar Show. Sure. I. Give it up. Just for one more chance to say, um, I would just say, you know, chill. I like not much to add. Yeah. You picture a mac DeMarco song like you're picturing this song. It's just so, like, chill, classic Mac. I mean, it's more stripped down than I would say than is more popular. Songs are like. It's just kind of him and his guitar with, like, a simple drum and bass line in the background, but it's a quick little. Yeah, like a cube of, uh, Colby. Colby. Jack. Cheese bite. Right in. Okay, you were saying that Mac DeMarco makes, like, lullaby music? Yeah, he does a little bit. That's why I asked you. I was like, does he have kids? And he has two, so it makes sense. He's singing. He's singing. Those to sleep. Good night. No, one hundred percent. I was going to sleep a little bit, but Anyway, next up we have Rory, which is an artist that created a song called Chronic Apathy. Off of the album dysphoria. I wish I could disappear. God, I really hate it here, I. Feel. Like with this one, I would say it's just, you know, your average, dreamy kind of song. Um. I feel like a little bit. I'm being lifted into heaven. Oh my God. Yeah. I was totally ascending. Exactly. But but I think that was my issue, was that I felt like the vocal harmonies in the beginning were beautiful and they stayed, like, consistent throughout. But I found myself waiting for, like, a beat drop that never happened. Like, the song just kept building and building and it sounded great, but it all just kind of mushed together and blended together for me. It just. Yeah, I wish that they had added something more like it was almost too much. Yeah, like I was too high. Too high. I gotta get down. I'm Icarus and I'm flying too close to the sun now. Too much beauty. What happens when you have too much beauty? I like, unfortunately, maybe less is more, but. But it was. It was still good, I liked it. Yeah, I liked it. Yeah. Beautiful voice. Up next we have Acceleration by Spaceface off their album Lunar Manor. It's chemical. It's changing me. It's overloading senses reaching, running into the sun. Hey, it's just. It's indie rock again. They sounded a lot like dayglo to me, but maybe I'm just like. That's the first song that comes to mind when I think, like, oh, indie rock? No. Yeah. No, I'd have to agree with you on that one hundred percent. Uh, you said it's a cool song to drive to. Why is that? Yeah, I don't know. I feel like if, like while I was listening to it, I was like, if it's like a nice sunny day and I'm driving on campus or something like that, like in the song were to come on, I'd be like, oh, this is nice. Like I'm having a fun time. Yeah, I get what you're saying then. Yeah. Um, I really like the bridge in this song. It made it. It made it more fun to me. Um. And it made it. It made it worth it. Mhm. The world needs more fun songs. Yes. So thank you. Space. Space for that. And our last song is Kiss by Sir Chloe off the album Swallow the Knife. Crazy album name? Mhm. Would you do that, sir? Chloe? No, no. Kiss. It's always the left wrist. I couldn't see your eyes till I was far away. Kiss. Um, I did like this song a lot. I think it was like, it's a pretty good, just, like, alternative kind of song and everything. To me, the vocals are a little like, I wish that she may have done a little bit more with her vocals, but, um, I think that it was still a solid song and I did like the guitar to it. That was also in it as well. Yes, yes, I, I agree with both things. You were saying her. I can't tell if it's just my taste in music or something, but with like those, like, I can't even call this like girl rock, but like with when it's just like rah rah rah when it's all one note and like, it just sounds monotone and kind of just is stale to me when it's across the whole song. It's just not my preference. It's almost like a little sassy, like, I'm gonna just stay monotone and you're gonna like it. It's like, okay, all right. Cool. But I still like it. Hey. Yeah, it was good. I think it's good to throw this in with so many of these, like, dreamy, dreamy, ethereal songs like it was good to hear some distortion, so I appreciated that. Okay, so Syd and I are going to discuss what our favorite songs are this week was and see if we can make a dispatch decision on what the top number one Goat song of the week was, Goat Song. So thank you for introducing me to tops, I think. Wheels at night was definitely my favorite song from this week. Nice. I that's that's a really great one. Um, I would have to say that my favorite was The Lathe of Heaven Exodus. Just because I think I'm going to actually add this to my fall playlist, because there's so much eighties in my fall playlist. Okay. I was like, we'll have a great debate, but for some reason I completely forgot about that song. Holy. Yeah, that song changed my life. I'm so excited to sit down and listen to that album after this. Like, oh my God, it's so it's so eighties, but it's modern eighties. Exactly. And I one thing that I do often try to look at when it comes to like a modern artist doing their take on like an older sound is like, do you actually add anything to it? And I don't know that this song actually adds anything to it, but I also but I still like, like it. I think that if you're not gonna add anything to it, you're just gonna have to do it really well. And I think they did it really well, and it's fine because it's such like an obvious like take on new wave. So our dispatch decision. Yes. Don, Don Don, this week is Exodus by faith of heaven. Yes. And tune in to impact eighty nine FM all the time. Every song playing all the time. Twenty four seven. This is the only song we're gonna play. Yes! That's it. Get ready. New wave, all new, all the time. We're in a new wave impact. Yes we are. Thank you all so much for listening. And it has been a pleasure. And we will hear back from you or you'll hear back from us next week. Monday.
