audio platforms uh just to
let more people know that
we're here and get us in
the algorithm that would be awesome
We got an exciting show tonight.
We're going to talk about
wrapping up the open.
We're going to talk about
the WFP qualifiers.
We're going to talk about next steps.
We're going to hit some
quick hitting news at the
end of the night.
And we're opening it up for
questions for about ten or
fifteen minutes for the
fittest thirty five to
thirty nine year old in the
world and the fittest forty
to forty four year old in the world.
During this year's Open.
In the Open.
In the Open.
Based off three workouts.
Right.
Right.
But I could not be any prouder of you.
We'll get into that in a second.
But first,
it's been a week since I've seen
you guys.
I went to Pennsylvania this
week to see my mom.
It's been a couple weeks
since she's been out of the hospital.
Went, did a little checkup with her,
kind of hung out with her for the weekend,
made sure she was doing well.
It was really great to have
that time with her to do that.
And then Julie did the same
with her parents.
So we got to PA and we split.
I spent time with my pit mom
and she spent time with her parents.
We did that and then jumped
back in the car this
morning and headed back for
Columbus so we could do this show.
And then today I caught up
real quick on the pit and Reacher.
Yes.
Holy cow.
I thought the pit was the
season finale and then
learned that they've
extended it to fifteen episodes.
Yeah.
Thank goodness.
But I lost.
I could not catch my breath
during that episode.
I know.
If that is what a real ER is
like in a trauma situation
like that... Probably.
Insanity.
And if you read online,
like all these medical
professionals are saying,
this one comes the closest
to depicting what a real ER
is like than any other show on TV.
But some of the injuries
that they showed today...
Julie kept saying, tell me when it's over.
Tell me when it's over.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I was just like, Oh, I had to like, yeah,
definitely look away a few times.
Oh.
And then reachers just set
up for the season finale this Thursday.
Yeah.
It's all, you know,
he's got them in the sites
and now it's what happens next week.
It's exactly what I thought
was going to happen.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
He never gets to keep the girl ever.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And so he,
she was going to piss him off or
do something.
Sometimes they die.
So at least she's still
alive at this point.
I just went back going where he went.
That's exactly what I expected.
I did too.
Yeah.
But now we get to see the
climax next week.
So that was fun.
The last thing I'm going to say,
and I'm going to turn it over to you guys,
but, you know,
we've been touting this
NCAA tournament thing this week.
And I was telling Jamie
before we went live, in PA,
nobody cares about the NCAA
basketball tournaments.
It's all about the wrestling
national championships
there because Penn State has won, like,
some ungodly number in a row
of national championships
in wrestling and they
actually had the first ever
five-time national champion
individual in wrestling
because of the coveted year
he got an extra year of
eligibility and won five
straight years in a row
And the match was four to
three to win his fifth one
in the final match.
So it was, it was very exhilarating,
but that's what everybody's
talking about in PA.
Nobody's talking about the
basketball tournament,
which I found just really fascinating.
And Carolyn, you'd love this.
Even the penguins are
getting more run in Pittsburgh.
Yeah.
they're in last place then
the tournament it's so dumb
I've been like watching
non-stop I haven't the only
day I watched the men's
play the men play is like
the very first day and then
it's been all women's games
that I've watched yeah so
aaron was like did you see
the wrestling craig yes it
was great wrestling so
other people were paying
attention to um dc calling
the heavyweight fight was
was great yeah it was
Yeah.
Wrestling is so huge where I grew up.
So huge.
What was your guys' week like?
I can't think of my week right now.
I feel like the week kind of
flew by this week.
Just trying to wrap up the Open,
get my scores in for my gym,
for the team that won.
I don't know.
Trying to get packed.
We leave tomorrow morning at
Our flight departs at eight fifty a.m.
So today has been stressful.
And where are you going?
Oh, I didn't even know.
What?
How long?
Monday to Monday.
So I will very,
very likely not be on Sunday.
Maybe I'll maybe I'll stop
in for ten minutes while
we're poolside or whatever
we're doing at eight p.m.
Just to rub it in.
Yeah.
Yeah.
uh yeah that's awesome that
you're and is this like
just a family vacation or
is it a treat because it's
lucas's senior year or yep
yep we let him pick what he
wanted to do for his spring
break it sort of sucks
because he doesn't turn
eighteen till april
fourteenth so we're like
two weeks dry of oh well
So we're going with his tennis buddy.
Him and his parents are going.
So it'll be the six of us.
All inclusive?
Yep.
That's nice.
You'll care more once you get there.
Remember I was asking for
recommendations on where to stay?
Yeah, but that's been a long time ago.
I know.
Well, we're booked.
Monday to Monday.
Carolyn, just normal school stuff?
yeah normal school stuff um
yeah like the week after
march break is normally you
know just getting students
back into the rhythm of
things um back in the
rhythm of things you should
see the size of my dog it's
a boy dog argentino he
doesn't like a dog outside tell him no
so shout out though today to
my wisconsin badger women's
hockey team that won the
national championship they
beat ohio state and I let
katie henniger know she
hasn't replied yet that she
probably knows that the
wisco girls took down ohio
state um in overtime they
were down three three one
at one point they tied the
game with eighteen seconds
left on a penalty shot and
then won it in overtime wow
it was uh it just got done
about an hour ago so
yeah just kind of on a group
chat with all of my like
ex-teammates and stuff like
that and we're just super
pumped they were the best
team all year so I was
gonna ask you I saw they
won the semi-final match uh
like two days ago yeah and
I was gonna ask you like
how much how connected do
you stay with your alma
mater like after you're
done playing like do you
watch as much as you can or
do you kind of move on to
other things in life
No, I think I still,
I still follow like how they're doing.
And honestly,
most of the time they're in
the national championship
game or in the frozen four.
So it's easy to like stay,
stay with it with how
they're doing just because
they're always doing like very well.
But yeah, no, we have,
we have a group chat.
So.
They do like an alumni weekend every year.
I haven't done it just
because it just falls like
during school year and it's
just tough time to travel right away.
But maybe in a few years,
we'll do the alumni stuff with them.
But yeah,
I know just we normally connect a
couple times a year and
it's around how the current
girls are doing.
A lot of them will go and watch different,
like some of the games when
they're in their cities where they live.
So yeah, it's pretty cool.
Andrew said Canada just beat
USA in men's soccer today.
The two one or something like that.
It was pretty close.
I was getting updates on my
phone about the game.
I did.
That's one thing I did not keep up with.
I know our Michigan State
men's hockey team is ranked number one.
Yeah, they're always pretty good.
Yeah, they are always pretty good.
Yeah.
there's no michigan um teams
in the ncaa which is crazy
because it's such a hockey
um state yeah yeah uh larry
young pops in with uh I was
at a critical access
hospital where I was on
call for every trauma every
code all the ob not sure I
want to watch the pit I don't know
I've never done it larry so
I can't tell you but from
what I've seen on the
internet people are saying
it is very realistic and
like I don't want to ruin
any of the storylines in
case people are trying to
keep up but there's a
trauma event that happens
and they they show the
injuries it is fast-paced
they show the prep of the
er getting all the normal
patients out of the way
getting all the equipment
out of the way so they can
put more beds in.
Like it was,
I was out of breath at the end
of the episode.
Yeah.
And it ends with no answers.
None.
And there's three more episodes to go.
So you're just kind of like
you're out of breath and
you don't still don't have
the answers you want.
I saw they released some like still clips,
just like photos of scenes.
I don't know.
I don't want to know.
Yeah.
There's like a ton of
speculation on some stuff.
I mean, I don't know.
It's crazy that I really liked that.
Uh,
the Asian doctor that they brought in
who was like working outside.
Yeah.
Yeah.
It's really like just laid
back and like nothing.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So when the trauma patients come in,
and just for Carolyn,
because I know she doesn't watch the show,
they have slap bands and
they're different colors.
And that is how they are
assessing where the patient goes.
Like red is critical and
they could die within the
hour or within five minutes, right?
And then pink is within the hour.
And then they have a
checkered one that is like
straight to the morgue.
Like literally just,
and they're slapping them on wrists.
And once they get the band,
they're just taken.
And they have people in the
parking lot grabbing them
as they're coming out of
the vehicles and slapping
these wrists on them.
And this new doctor that
they introduced in this
episode is like sipping his
Starbucks and going, yeah, red, pink.
Yeah.
Yeah,
you just don't even think he's
listening to Robbie at first.
Yeah.
And he turns out to be really,
really good at what he does.
I liked him.
Cool.
Um, yeah, it's, it's just amazing.
I'm so glad I started watching the show.
Yeah.
Thanks for recommending it.
Um,
so we'll move on to some real news now.
And that is that my two
co-hosts proved that they
are really fit during this year's open.
Um, and they, because Jamie won the
carolyn won the thirty five
to thirty nine year old
division and not only did
carolyn do it and I and I
said this on the one of the
lunch shows someone said
clean sweep for carolyn I
said no no no au contraire
mon frere it was a hat
trick for carolyn we got to
get the right terminology
that is the right canadian
terminology anyways that's
what we call it yeah um
Carolyn ended up finishing
fourth overall in the world.
Fifth.
Fifth.
Unless they've switched the leaderboard.
I don't think anything changed.
I don't think so either.
I made the rundown at like
eleven thirty midnight last night.
I don't.
And then, Jamie,
you were like one fifty top
one fifty one forty four, I think.
In the world.
Yeah.
Overall, at forty one years old.
Yeah,
I think I was one thirty two last
year overall.
So that went,
which is weird because I was
like third overall last
year in my age group,
but one thirty in the world.
And now I'm first, but one forty ish.
Who was your podium last year?
And has anyone aged out of that?
No.
Are you're.
Yeah, no, no.
Carly Newlands was first.
Pinero was second and Carly
Matthews was third.
And then she's injured right now.
She's doing.
Yeah, I know.
She was doing like crazy versions.
I was like,
she did single arm thrusters
and workout too.
She was doing single arm snatches.
yeah at that point I was
like why yeah I didn't end
up seeing where she did
okay in the first workout I
think she probably mostly
used the good arm and I
think she still did okay in
the second I didn't see the
I didn't see the third like
it sounded like either a
wrist or I don't know like
she broke some surgery yeah
some sort of yeah
I can't imagine like our
muscle ups were great or
wall walks or any of that
like I don't know I would
have just like probably
just done like a dumbbell
variation yeah she was
doing like the one arm
snatches with the barbell
and like jesus I was like
don't get your other arm
all messed up yeah not worth it
Jules D says,
the first episode of The Pit
gave me a panic attack once.
I realized what was happening.
I stopped watching.
Great show, but crazy stressful.
Craig says, hell yeah to both of you.
Blair Lettingham,
big congrats to you both.
Jason, congrats, ladies.
Jules D, congratulations.
Jason, yeah, we know.
Some fit ladies from Larry Young.
aaron says if pinero is
saucing why can't they
catch her I actually have a
feeling she probably isn't
anymore um but she did it
one time for sure I'm sure
she did it for several years
five, six years ago or something.
Just, you know,
like a five-year stint of just craziness.
And I don't know, but, I mean,
if you watch the Hiller video,
he talks specifically about the women.
And there's another woman in
the thirty-five to
thirty-nine who admitted use.
But, like,
I feel like it just sticks
around for the women.
If you've ever done it,
you're going to continue to
have benefit from it.
So that's where, for me,
it's like just because you get caught.
Like, if you...
did bodybuilding shows or whatever,
or you're,
you like did performance
enhancing drugs five years ago.
I just feel like,
I feel like it needs to be
like a permanent ban for women.
It's just ridiculous.
There's clearly a benefit
that she sustained out of that.
Yeah.
Hillard documents, documents that it,
it does stay longer in
women's bodies than it does in men's.
Um, and it takes longer to flush out.
So
And that's what we're saying,
that there is evidence that
it stays in a woman's body
longer than it stays in a man's.
We're not here to debate the
length of suspension at this point.
We'll do that for another show.
We've talked about that on other shows.
Yeah.
Yeah.
and understand she's still
reaping the benefits wayne
short lance armstrong never
tested positive and she's
like a doctor in brazil
like she knows exactly if
she is she knows exactly
what she's doing and how to
get around it and probably
can pull her blood at any
time and yeah yeah it it's
all of this stuff is an IQ test,
not a testing drugs test.
Yep.
If you know this,
if you know the cycle
length of you or the short
half-life of whatever you're taking,
you can beat the system.
If there's no random testing,
if you know when the test comes,
you can beat the test.
So, um, um,
I don't want this to turn
into a steroid show.
So I'm going to move on to, uh,
overall thoughts on this year's open.
I shared my thoughts earlier
this week that this was the
most fun I've had in the
open in a very long time.
Um, just personally doing the open.
I thought the workouts were fun to do.
Um,
probably the fact that I actually was
able to do RX versions at my age, um,
was very different for me
in than in years past.
Um,
But I felt like I had goals.
I could I could strive for those goals.
Sometimes I beat those goals.
It was just a really fun year.
And I shared with the two of
you earlier in the week
that my percentile went
from twelve to twenty,
which was a huge jump for me.
And and now I just I just
want to now I've juiced up.
Pardon the term to hit next
year's open and try to get
even higher on that percentile.
Yeah, I mean,
I enjoyed the Open with my community.
I thought they had a great
time with the workouts.
I know you talked about, Jamie,
that the second week wasn't
as fun for a lot of your members.
I think the members at my
affiliate still enjoyed the
workout and the challenge that it brought,
whether it was a couple of
people that struggled with
the double-unders, some people struggled,
obviously, with the gymnastics.
for the most part, um, less people,
I think with the barbell, uh,
it was more gymnastics, um,
that they would struggle with, but yeah,
no, I thought that in terms of the,
the events, like, like it,
it was a party on my, on my, on my gym.
Like it was, you know,
everyone's wearing their,
their colors and, um,
Once the Open was done, I was like,
this is just such a cool thing.
It is so cool that these
people at whatever age, whatever fitness,
are just doing hard things
to the best of their
abilities and we're all
just out there celebrating
everyone's scores.
It doesn't matter if they're
just getting a burpee and
we're just yelling, way to go,
and just high-fiving.
I wouldn't have this...
in any other like sport, right?
Like had I had I just
transitioned from hockey
and gone to a global gym
and continued working out
like I would have never
discovered like this
amazing community that we have.
So just I was reflecting
after and just being like,
this is really cool.
And that that's what the open is about.
And yeah, I was I was happy with it.
I was happy with the members
and the support that we had there.
It was great.
Yeah.
Our Friday night lights were awesome.
Like,
fifty-some people coming through the
doors.
And most would stick around
and watch all the heats.
It was good.
But, you know, things could be better.
I don't love the multiple
barbells in an open setting.
I mean, it's hard on affiliates.
But I liked the workouts.
I think it was a good test of fitness.
I think it opened some of my
members' eyes on fitness.
things that they need to do,
which is good.
I mean, I get it.
It's frustrating,
but you also need to take a
good hard look at your
fitness and what you are
not showing up for what you're avoiding,
what you, I mean,
just take some accountability.
We, I,
I'm looking forward to the community.
We can't participate in the community cup,
but we'll, like I said,
we had like people sign up.
They they'll get a level and
we're going to run it as an
in-house comp.
So I'm just going to program the workouts.
We'll all show up on a
Saturday and kind of
revisit that magic that we
had on Friday nights and do
all the workouts together.
And it'll be fun.
I'm excited.
We have breaking news, breaking news.
Larry young is thinking
about doing cardio.
Whoa, whoa, whoa.
I know.
I know that may be the
biggest breaking news of the year.
That's a good idea, Larry.
Instead of asking for more
barbells in the community cup,
he's actually thinking
about doing cardio for the community cup.
Would you do the,
your little in-house the
week after the workouts are programmed.
So you have more time to set
up your actual competition
with knowing what's there.
Are you just assuming that.
It sounds like it's like
Monday through Sunday or whatever,
like the night through the
we'll do it that Saturday, the.
So it'll come out the night out.
I mean, it'll be a bit of a rush for me.
Like I'll Monday,
I'm gonna have to start
like figuring it out and
timing it and giving people,
cause I'll probably run it
like an in-house comp, um,
you know, and do, like,
workout one will be at, like, nine a.m.
and run through a few heats, and then,
like, eleven a.m.
will be workout two,
and then we'll crown the winner.
Yeah.
So, Lynn, I think we're getting it.
So,
Jamie is going to use the programmed
events that CrossFit comes
out with to use as their
in-house competition.
They are not an affiliate,
so they are assigning the
levels to their athletes themselves.
But your athletes still
signed up for the Open, right?
Yes, they'll get levels.
I'll have plenty of athletes
who will have levels and
they'll know what workout to do.
I'm basically going to take
the other people that want
to do it and be like, all right, well,
you finished very close to Johnny.
So like you're going to do
the same workout as Johnny today.
do we know what what date is
it again and it's in june
early yeah june the day
before well for me it's
basically monday through
sunday which is father's
day we'll do it saturday
the day before father's day
so is it the same weekend
as the last chance of
qualifier I'm telling you I
think it's the same thing I
think it is the last chance
qualifier I think it is interesting uh
I don't know why they're doing that still.
They haven't given any info.
It's going to be cool for us
as well that they're doing
an in-house comp as well.
That's awesome, Craig.
I love that.
There is stuff out about the
Community Cup.
Um,
you have to go kind of look for it
right now.
You can actually,
if you know your percentile,
you can go look and see
what your level is.
Right.
Um,
I shared that earlier in the week on
one of the lunch with the Clydesdales.
Um,
and you can find out what your level is.
It does change depending on
your age group though.
Right.
So,
and I didn't realize that I thought I
was going to be a level two
and now I'm actually like,
I could be anything from a
one to a five in the range that I'm in.
Uh, which is crazy.
Um,
but they're emailing those out like end
of April or something.
I said, like that,
that should be finalized
and people get notified of
their level or it'll show up in your app.
But once you get your level at you,
then CrossFit will put out
workouts for that week.
let's call it father's day
week you will get the
workout you have all week
to do all of the workouts
that are out correct and
then you submit them
through the week and you
will compete against other
people with your same level
and in your age group yeah
because one thing I learned
this year is like fifty
five plus is not factored into any of the
No more stuff because your
weight for different,
all that kind of stuff is different.
So you don't even factor
into the equations of
percentiles or any of that stuff.
Correct.
So last year I got a
percentile for overall and
I got a percentile for
fifty to fifty four.
Yep.
I no longer get an overall
because we don't we are not
factored into that equation anymore.
Yep.
So, you know, you get older,
you learn new stuff.
But it makes sense because
they're different workouts,
so you can't really compare the scores.
I don't even think that
there would be an accurate way to do it.
Yeah, I'm okay with it.
It was something I just
didn't know until I experienced it.
Did you see that they're –
so the in-house – or the
Community Cup programming
is going to get programmed by –
like people are submitting
workouts and it's going to get picked.
No.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Probably.
That's probably who will submit.
The last chance qualifier
will be like affiliate
owners are supposed to send
in workouts and then
they're going to pick the
top three that they like.
And that's going to be the community cup.
I hate dogging on mayhem
because I love Rich.
Rich is my favorite male
CrossFitter of all time.
And every time I've seen him
in person and talked to him,
he's been nothing but the kindest.
But yeah,
they are running a lot of this
year's show.
Any news on the service open, service cup?
I have not heard anything on that.
I do think it's kind of cool
that like Boz is doing
these videos about what to expect.
I think that is a step
forward as we kind of look
forward to what's coming up is, hey,
in the in-person semis or
in affiliate semis,
these are the things you will expect.
These are the things that
your judge should expect.
I still don't understand the
use of the head judge thingy.
I took the advanced judges course.
It has nothing to do with
the in-person semifinals.
It's good if you're running
an event like Waterpalooza
or a semifinal in person
and you get to see what the
role of the head judge is
versus the on-the-floor
judge and everything.
and then the people doing
different things.
But in terms of the value
it's gonna bring to the affiliate, like,
I just think it's just adding more,
like it's making it more
difficult for people to be
needing all of these people
Like I work,
like I work full time and I
need to like do my workouts
at certain times.
And I need to make sure that
like two people are there.
Like it's already sometimes
hard to just get the one, like, you know,
like my, I'll get my, my, um,
affiliate owner coach that
he'll always do it.
But like to get someone else to need their,
like their judges stuff,
like it's just annoying.
So,
and I didn't take any of the new courses,
but the only way I see that
being something that makes sense.
And again,
it's one of these things where I
think it was a knee jerk reaction.
Um,
and they didn't think about it for all
affiliates, right?
If I'm CrossFit Invictus or
I'm CrossFit Mayhem,
and I'm running a heat of
eight people with eight different judges,
it's probably a good idea
to have a head judge making
sure that those eight are
being consistent.
Sure.
But if you're in a small
affiliate that's running
like one person and you do
them in open gyms not to
interfere with classes and you do blah,
blah, blah,
then it's really hard to
coordinate all that stuff.
But I wish that the advanced
course was more about gray reps.
It was a little bit.
And I felt like it talked
about camera setup, turning it landscape.
Like there was things in
there that I thought needed
to be gone over for, for doing in,
in affiliate semis.
I didn't feel like I like learned too,
too much, but I feel like most of it,
maybe as a competitor, you kind of know,
I don't know.
Um,
Larry Young, nine ninety nine.
Thank you so much.
Local affiliates here
offered a punch card type
deal to do the open.
Just a few bucks to drop in
for an open grit and grace.
CrossFit thought this was a
super cool idea.
Awesome.
Yeah.
Anything to make it more
accessible for anybody who
wants to try the open,
I think is a cool thing.
Or if you're a garage,
a garage gym person who wants to.
And I hope they do that for
the Community Cup.
because then they can come
back and do the community
cup in the affiliate as well.
Instead of having to set up
a bunch of stuff in their
garage to video it or so on and so forth.
So I hope so.
I, I just feel like this is,
I don't think it's going to
accomplish anything that
they hoped to accomplish.
I,
I think it's putting undue pressure on
like, especially rural athletes to,
And you're not going to get,
and it sounds like they're
going to just trust the,
it's like they're saying
they're going to do these,
the live video review and
it's going to be open,
but they're not like
everything they've said is
the whole point of this,
of having two judges on the
floor is they're going to
default to the judges that
were on the floor.
If you have like too many thumbs down,
then they'll look at the
video type thing.
Like how far,
how far down will they
actually look at that?
And then are you just
getting thumbs up from your
friends that took the
judges course that you're like,
go vote on mine.
Good.
Go vote on mine.
Good.
Like, cause you're going to get that.
Yeah.
But people just vote.
No vote bad for literally.
I don't even know what,
like I have like eight nose
on one of my workouts.
That is like, go watch it, Scott.
I've been meaning to talk to
you about that.
I, I'm.
I'm just kidding.
I'm sure you watched the video.
So you're probably like, it's, if that is,
if those are the people
just click getting on and clicking, Nope.
Like this is going to be a disaster.
I don't even know what
people are watching.
Some people are semis,
not for the community cup.
Correct.
So just to be clear.
Yeah.
The thing is,
like you're making it really
hard on people not a part
of affiliate like I know
you're saying carolyn it's
gonna be hard on you
because you find gotta find
two people not only do I
have to get two people to
come with me I gotta travel
somewhere and like I
already feel like I already
have extra scrutiny all the
time so now like your
regular app like you think
danny spiegel's gonna get
more just because two
people are watching or
she's actually gonna get no
reps no they're gonna still
Cheer her along and just
count her reps and move along.
But let's be fair.
She puts her video up for public scrutiny.
She's going to get hammered
because of her reputation
of what's happened over the
last two years.
Yeah, but it depends on if they're like,
they review it and they're like, well,
we're going to go with the
judge on the floor.
We trust them that those
were good in real time.
As long as they look at it though and say,
Hey,
we're going to go with the judge on
the floor.
I'm cool with that.
I'm just going to counter
what you say a little bit.
I had,
we talked about this year's open
being fun and things that
went really well and they
have made baby steps in the
right direction.
That is the first time in
years that they are making
steps in the right direction.
Yeah,
this might be clunky when we get to
semis and all the extra
stuff and having to do it
in an affiliate and all of that.
Hopefully they self-correct
that at some point and
realize that maybe the
pendulum swung too far to one side.
But at least this year,
CrossFit has made some
steps in the right direction.
like these boss videos that are going out,
they never did that in the
past in the last five years,
that stuff they did back in
twelve and thirteen and fourteen.
I just think it's.
We have to give them credit
for the steps they have taken.
yeah I'm I'm happy for the
video review we've been
asking for that like it
should be public a hundred
percent I just I don't know
what the benefit of is
making people go to
affiliates to do this like
if we're gonna have two l
one judges with the
advanced course does it
shouldn't matter so on the
open I could go to videos
and vote yes or no yeah
because you have the regular ten dollar
Right, but I didn't have the advanced.
No, I know.
So semis,
it's going to cut that down to
only people that spent that
extra money to do that.
And hopefully it'll clean up some of the,
hey, you're my friend, do this.
Hey, you're my friend, do that.
So it's only the ones with
the advanced that can vote.
Correct.
Gotcha.
And you have to put in your
credentials to then be able to vote.
Your credentials are always on there.
You're logged in when you vote, so...
I wonder if it was more for
the training camps and
non-athletes get the short
end of the stick.
Also,
I think it puts pressure on the
people judging to do better.
I hope so.
Yeah.
George Turner had the same
thing on one of his videos
when he made his YouTube public.
One of the judges said it was the clock.
And I think he had like we
time or one of those like running it,
whatever.
I don't know.
um there's a lot of stuff
here your crossfeed id is
linked to your vote
crossfit knows who voted
and how there's a rule that
you can be banned from
being a judge in the future
if crossfit decides you're
abusing the crowd votes
that's an interesting um
the clock has minutes
seconds and milliseconds he
finished ten fifty two
judge was like because of
the milliseconds it should
be ten fifty three
I don't think you normally round out.
I think you, yeah.
If it's still, if it's technically nine,
people will still say.
Yeah.
As long as it didn't switch.
Right.
If there's a stopwatch on
the floor in person,
then they use the milliseconds,
but online you just go by
what time your rep was completed at.
And if the number was still that number.
vice says shots fired at
danny I'm not trying to
pick on danny just she's a
recognizable one that like
killer so I'm just like if
you're thinking about
somebody maybe questioning
a squat that's a it's okay
danny I've got your back
this has been a debate with
jamie and I for two years now so
um sarah cooper because it's
crossfit community cup they
want to push people into
crossfit affiliate makes
sense yes but we're talking
about two different things
right that's what's getting
confusing community cup
makes all the sense in the
world for going into an
affiliate yeah um but the
semi-finals are required to
be an affiliate as well
Yeah,
I'm not mad that my athletes can't
participate in the Community Cup.
Like, I'm not mad about that.
That's fine.
We're not an affiliate.
We're not a part of the community.
We'll do it on our own.
We still paid a bunch of
money to them to get their levels.
But if you're posting your
video publicly in the semifinal,
that's where you're saying, like,
it shouldn't really matter.
Everyone's video is public, like...
Yeah.
And I,
I'm still gonna have two L one
judges with the advanced course,
just like everyone else.
Like I'm not,
I'm not trying to do anything
different there,
but it shouldn't necessarily be hard.
Like I got probably have to
travel two hours and do I
wanna do that car ride
twice a day and sleep in my own bed?
Do I wanna get a hotel?
Like this just, it's just unnecessary.
Yeah.
I think, yeah.
Again,
we're going to talk about something
later in the show about the
sale and maybe that like
all that everything could be changed in,
in three hundred sixty five days.
So you're telling Sarah,
you're telling me that
nobody who goes to the
CrossFit Games should be
allowed to be unaffiliated.
Remember?
Like, that's ridiculous.
We want the best that are competing.
Like, the sport-wise, it's different,
right?
Like,
it's all about... This isn't the
Community Cup.
This is the CrossFit Games,
and you're supposed to want anybody.
You're supposed to want
someone from the NFL to
challenge and want a spot
and come take the floor.
Well, and more importantly,
three years ago, we're touting,
we can do it in our garage.
We can be garage athletes, blah, blah,
blah.
Well,
those garage athletes may now be good
enough to make...
a semifinal or the games and
they should be given that opportunity.
We've changed the goalpost
like we do every year in CrossFit.
And so people go down one path,
goalpost changed and they
have to adjust and so on and so forth.
But again,
great baby steps this year from CrossFit.
We are moving in a direction
that seems to make sense.
Now we're going to sell and
who the hell knows what
happens after that.
But for now,
So, um,
do you think the underlying motive
is to push gyms to
affiliate or to push
athletes to train in affiliates?
I think it's for more gyms to affiliate.
Yeah.
I think that is the push,
but I don't think that's
what's going to happen.
Um, da, da, da, da, da.
To me, they could do the same thing.
Meet criteria, pay a small fee,
if not affiliated.
That's an idea.
I mean, my people have four coaches.
I have two L-twos, three L-ones.
It's not like we haven't put
money into the space.
We pay for a level method affiliation.
What about the people that
want to do their semifinals
at their own gym?
Yeah, they just pay a small little fee.
That would work.
Instead of paying fifty
bucks for the semifinals, it's,
I don't know, seventy bucks,
but you get to stay at your own gym.
I feel like you would do that.
Yeah.
Just to stay at your own gym,
have your own bar.
I have four people.
If I had to pay like, I mean, honestly,
if I had to pay like two
hundred bucks to be a semifinal location,
I would do it.
That could be good revenue for them.
Could be.
And then,
and then you just would like be
able to advertise that.
Like we're,
we have plenty of L one judges
with the advanced course.
We have five athletes that
are going to be doing it.
Come join up, like come here.
You have people to work out alongside.
And then maybe that attracts
more athletes to your gym
and then you can afford the affiliation.
Yeah.
That would be nice.
There you go.
Yeah.
Larry, I like your idea.
Larry's doing cardio and
he's agreeing with Jamie on
the second issue.
Love it.
Man.
I don't know if you guys saw,
but Larry got his,
he won a coffee mug from us.
He took it to church this morning.
So he got some religion and
now he's agreeing with
everything and how to do stuff.
That tracks.
Yeah.
Um, do, do, do, do.
is age groups I mean really
a hundred bucks that's
insane age group semis is a
hundred bucks this year is
that real uh alyssa would
know normally they charge
for like when you qualify
and then you're going to
the comp a hundred bucks
for the in affiliate semis
and I can't even do it at
my own gym that's freaking
great that's ridiculous uh
kenneth commented on dave's
week in review
um lana great idea jamie who
was my idea um carolyn
carolyn has a direct route
we'll let her miss miss
demo team there she has all
the connections yeah um
Uh, so next up we have the age group semis,
which we've talked about a little bit.
You two will be going into that.
Um,
and then we have the mayhem classic
both the same weekend.
Yes.
We've talked about how that
kind of missing a Mark as well,
having mayhem and the in
affiliate age group semis
on the same weekend.
And I can't believe that
mayhem is going to,
pull this off with all of
their mayhem athletes that
they generally allow to
come to mayhem to do the semis.
Won't be able to do that
this year because of the mayhem classic.
Yeah.
I'm curious where are they
just taking them all to the barn?
Like they have an affiliate though.
I think it is didn't they
something well a lot of
times like rich did his
workouts in the in his barn
and he would call it
crossfit mayhem but that's
a different location I
don't think that that's
really crossfit mayhem good
point and he's always said
like crossfit mayhem and
how many workouts have
people done in the barn
barn and said crossfit
mayhem and it's not there
it's at uh it's like what's
the difference between that
and a garage it's a garage
unless it's affiliated
same argument is the shred
shed and correct that one
is so I'm just I don't know
that their barn is actually
an affiliate they wouldn't
have the exact same name
that is a good question
we're gonna have to watch
where these uh videos come
out of because yeah they
had a ton of people age group wise
Maybe in the small little area,
like the new competitors area,
but I feel like they'll be
using that for the warm-up
area and all of that.
Mayhem will not be open to their members.
I don't know.
That's a good question, Carolyn.
I'm very curious where
they're all going to be
completing those workouts.
That's
But in the past years, in the past years,
they have not publicly put
their video out there.
Cause if you don't do it on an affiliate,
you're supposed to post your video.
And I had this conversation
with Lex a couple of years
ago and I'm like,
look at all of the mayhem
athletes doing it in the barn,
but then don't post their videos.
And that's, I mean, I don't know,
but they're not at CrossFit
mayhem when they're doing it there.
So.
That just brought me back to
a conversation I had with
Lex like years ago because
we were talking about why
their videos aren't public
if they're not doing it at
the actual place.
Yeah.
Alyssa Stuckey follows up.
Yes, unfortunately, it's true.
It's in the rule book for
this year as a hundred
dollar registration fee.
Damn.
It's expensive in Canadian dollars.
So I'm going to say Fergie's
question for when we do the
Q&A with you guys in just a
couple minutes.
But yeah,
so we have both those things going on.
You guys are a part of the age group.
The Mayhem Classic has been
advertising constant lineup changes.
I know.
Do you think that that's due
to the competition at the event?
Do you think it's due to
everything else going on that weekend?
Or do you think it's just, hey,
we signed up and realized
I'm going to take a
different path for my season?
I think people didn't want to say no.
They want to say yes.
And then just, just so they're, they,
you know,
they have an option to kind of
back out as they see the names pop up.
Maybe.
I don't know.
A lot of changes.
I mean,
I feel like it's mostly been injuries.
Although it's yeah,
I know because you think I
can't imagine like all
those are injuries.
I don't know.
When it was first announced,
it was all like,
all these games athletes are coming in.
Now we're deep into the
semifinal athletes.
I think people just are
going to take different paths.
They're like, okay, that's not the one.
Let me go to another one.
Lynn said they announced it
too soon before people had
even figured out their seasons.
I completely agree.
I actually think Rich...
commented on that in one of
their podcasts and like he
thought like rethought like
yeah we probably should
have like like I don't
think he should be
competing there if you
aren't in the top one
percent and you're or
you're not signed up if you
didn't like you shouldn't
even be doing it
I agree with that too,
because I like as hard as,
as it is to find people,
find people like there's
thousands of athletes.
Your field is already only.
If you're saying that this,
this athlete can't go
because they're not in the one percent,
this athlete can't like get rid of those.
Like now you have a field of like.
Eighteen, seventeen people,
not even like your chances are.
I mean,
I mean really your trends aren't
that great at mayhem, but like.
you compare that to other
semi-finals of I don't know
thirty people um like yeah
yeah and I think it makes
it confusing one it is the
first event of the year it
should be real simple you
place first or second you go to the games
But it's not.
It's not going to be that
way because you have Paige
Powers who did not finish
in the top one percent.
You have Guy.
You have other people there
that are not competing.
So now it could be, couldn't be.
We don't know yet.
So it's going to be an interesting.
It just means that there's
more explanation as to who
gets their way to the games.
Um, Lynn also says also,
I think it's a lot of
people figuring out they
might actually crush the
online qualifiers.
Like for Dallin,
he's literally a sure bet right now.
If he does online, I think,
I think Dallin looked at
where he was on week one of
the open crushing it.
And he's like, you know what?
I don't need to go to this comp right now.
I will make it through the
online process no matter what.
And I'll focus on the WFP comp.
That's right after I feel,
I feel like that's,
and he may have a little
bit of something that's going on,
but like not,
I don't think it's big
enough to the point where
he wouldn't have been able to go there.
It's like nepotism.
It is like nepotism.
Did he announce not going
after Heavy Isabel was announced?
I don't know.
I don't think it was.
No, I think it was before.
He was one of the first to pull out.
I think it was right after
the first open workout when
he crushed it.
He crushed it.
so um I think I and you guys
the comments are coming in
so fast I can't keep up
anymore um so yeah so we we
will that's in two weeks
guys so we will be here
live updating stuff from
those events we will we got
our own here like here in
my basement okay stuff um
You guys will be doing semis,
so we'll get to hear how that has gone.
It should be a fun weekend
to keep up with.
I'm not looking forward to it.
We get home that Monday
after being gone for a week.
I don't even know if I'm
going to be able to train all week.
Then I got to figure out
where I'm even doing these.
The last thing I want to do
is more traveling.
You'll be fine.
We'll see.
We'll see what the workouts are.
So there's that.
So now we're going to open
it up for questions for our
two champs and elite athletes.
We're going to give you guys
ten to fifteen minutes to
just ask whatever question
you want of Carolyn and Jamie.
either about the open or
about anything else going
on it can be crossfit
related it doesn't have to
be but I'm going to go back
and grab um fergie's that I
liked and posed to them if
I can find it in this mess
okay so fergie talks about
rx was a disappointment
Jumping pull ups and scaled
wall walks are not RX movements.
It just caused a massive log
jam on the leaderboard that
bar muscle ups would have solved.
I am an RX fifty five plus athlete.
And even though it would
have made it so I couldn't do it, RX,
I completely agree with you.
But I want to hear what
these elite athletes think,
because while it was fun for me to say,
hey, I did it, RX,
I got to do this and that.
You guys know how it affects
a leaderboard and how
frustrating that could be.
I don't think I actually
think it would have been
more of a log jam if they
would have done bar muscle
ups for the fifty five plus.
I actually think that would
have been worse for that bracket.
Maybe not.
And this is the problem.
They probably and I know it's a pain,
but they probably need to
do a fifty five plus scale
and then a sixty five plus scale.
Because if you would add bar
muscle ups at sixty five plus,
you would have had a bunch
of you would have.
they would have had to have
a tiebreaker or you would
have had a bunch of people not get them.
So the way it was written
for like sixty five plus,
I think was perfect for that workout.
I absolutely agree.
Scaled water walks was a
joke for all for all of the age groups.
That was a joke.
Carolyn, do you think the top two hundred,
like if you can't make it
in the top two hundred,
like you have massive holes in.
Like,
I still think the people that should
be there are going to be there.
And then you're going to
test what you need to test
in the semifinals.
Yeah.
Yes.
If you can't make the top two hundred,
you like I'm sorry,
but like you shouldn't.
You shouldn't.
You're not fit enough.
You haven't got them.
You haven't.
Even if it's scaled wall walks,
jumping like if you can't
make the top two hundred of
your age group,
you have massive
deficiencies in your fitness.
Yeah.
You can test all of the
regular stuff or more
advanced advanced things, I think,
in the next in the next stage.
I think for what the open is.
Like it's fine.
And it's same thing for the elites.
Like people complain about
the strength and stuff,
but they can't do burpees
and they're gassed and they can't,
you know, do they have massive holes.
But if you can't make the
top one thousand two hundred,
you're not you're not
really a semifinal like level caliber.
I think you have huge holes
to your fitness.
You're not fit enough.
Like.
I still, you look at the leaderboard,
like the,
the regular people were still towards the,
like the top,
or were they like all in the top ten?
No, more so on the men than,
than the females.
But for the most part,
you still had like the top,
the fittest people up there,
unless they were injured.
Right.
Well, we've said it, we say it every week.
Like you, you say it's not heavy enough.
We'll then move faster.
Yeah.
So that, that was the criteria here.
Just move faster.
like I still think all three
tests were good in different ways.
Like you still had some
progressive gymnastics.
You still had, um,
the last workout had some inverted things,
some, um, a couple of different barbells.
So you have to at least have
the technique to do snatches, cleans,
deadlifts, the rowing played a factor.
Like you, even though you,
like you could be short or tall, you had,
you had parts of the workout that were,
that you could push.
Like it wasn't necessarily
just a short person or a
tall person for that one.
Dan Church says, preach Prevost.
And he also adds in, it's irrelevant.
The age division is racing the same group.
Just race it.
Yep.
That's true.
Yeah.
I think, I think the next round,
the semi is where you're
going to get more high skill.
I have more higher skills
and stuff like that, which is, again,
what we talked about, unfortunately,
because you erase
everything that happens here.
And like,
it's a completely different test.
And like the one thousand
people moving on in the
elites or the two hundred,
like you shouldn't be
finishing a hundred place
or like one hundred and
fiftieth in your age group.
And then all of a sudden you
get the higher skills, heavier weights,
and you're in the top thirty,
but have massive holes in
just playing fitness.
Like you can't just do high
skill heavyweights.
That's not what fitness is only.
right so dan asks any plans
for clydesdale at mfc
metcon rusher vitruvian
games uh I'll answer that
since I'm kind of the guy
who runs the show here um
we always end up at mfc
whether I plan to or not
it's a two-hour drive for
me um so at the very least
I'll be there for at least
a day um I've never missed
one I'll just say that
um when it comes to
metconrush that is one
event I do want to get to
at some point um I love
what they do I've had their
organizers on the show they
are awesome and I would
love to go see the event
when that will fit in my
schedule I don't know um
I've been just waiting on
what we're approved for and
what we're not this year to make a plan
In Vitruvian Games, I have to admit,
I don't even know what that is.
I've seen that one.
I've heard of it.
I just don't know where or what.
So that's kind of what it is.
We have not finalized any
plans at this point on
where we're going to be for anything.
I did get approval from WFP.
I did get approval from Syndicate Crown.
So I'll probably be in those
two locations.
But my wife is also having
her second knee surgery in
that time frame.
So I have to make sure I
have a babysitter for her while I'm gone.
So then we'll go on to Lex.
What is the one thing you
want to see in the semis
and the one thing you don't
want to show up?
You want to go first?
One Red Max snatch that I
don't want to show up.
yeah, I think,
I think if you have four or
five events and you do a max lift,
if it really skews, um,
the test quite a bit, um,
things I don't things I want to see.
I mean,
A two twenty five deadlift.
We already did that.
I want to see another like
the rope climb GHG pistol workout.
I really liked that.
I think regular rope climbs are fine.
I think legless,
sometimes it's going to be
hard to see on video, um, certain things.
And I still think rope
climbs are sketch in a lot of gyms.
Like you look,
they do their measurements
and then you're like, that is not.
That's true.
Like, I just find that there's,
there's cheating happening.
Um, I don't love that.
Even though I think it's a
very good movement,
I think that you can still
do ring muscle-ups and some
sort of other pulling,
like a heavy pulling type
workout without needing the
fifteen foot ceilings.
Yeah,
and I don't want to have to do that
on camera.
That's just pain.
As much as I'd love to see rope climbs,
it is such a pain to video.
I remember lex I was at
lex's gym which has like
twenty foot ceilings and we
were at like three boxes
like and we're just like
filming and all the way to
the top not safe it's
sketchy yes um yeah I mean
I hope that there's a still
a test that's like engine
type like yeah stop that
because things get erased from the open,
I don't want all those
movements to be erased in terms of,
you know,
I still want to see some sort of
chest to bar bar muscle up, um, burpees,
like the thrusters,
like those movements I
think should still be there
in at least one test.
Um,
there needs to be heavier weights.
Of course,
I won't be surprised to see a
snatch type of ladder,
maybe with a gymnastics
progression where you have
to earn your lift with some
sort of skill as well.
Um,
I think we'll see some shuttle runs in
high volume.
I think we will though,
or double unders in high volume.
I think we'll see.
We have a ton of questions, ladies.
We're going to move on.
Jamie,
how's your senior year going for
your son?
It's going okay.
He has an online college course that...
It's just a total shit show.
It's an English class.
One of the middle, the second semester,
he just got way behind and
didn't do some of his papers.
And then the most he could
get is sixty percent.
So the kids got like a four
point oh six and then just
totally trashed his GPA in
this one class.
It's just absolutely ridiculous.
So there was a couple of
months there of just.
not happy with him never
once interviewing for a job
has anybody asked me what
my gpa was in high school
yeah I know but he's also
trying to get some
scholarships and I was like
that's the last thing they
need to see is that you
just checked out on your
senior year of high school
and but he's doing fine now
and he'll probably finish
just fine he just needs to
get like it's like a three
or four when you take the
test to get the credit for the class so
The college credits.
Chris asks,
when do Jamie's shirts go on sale?
I don't know.
Let her make the names first.
Let her make the names first.
And then we'll talk about that.
Key and Coon may put a damper on that.
This is a subject for later,
but we'll bring it up now.
What are your thoughts on
Annie and Catra commentating?
What I find interesting about that,
and I'll play the video
real quick just so you guys
know what she's talking about.
They never say they're going
to commentate.
I thought they did.
They say they're going to call the action.
That's what they say, call the action.
Yeah, but in what manner?
Because other people have
said they're doing it as well.
That's what I thought I heard.
When you guys sent this, I was like,
it isn't... Yeah,
so here is what was posted
on Instagram today.
... ...
We are here to call the action.
We're here to call the action.
I'll see you in Indy.
Are you ready?
I like it.
So we think they're going to
be the ones just sitting at
the table just because
they're not the floor
announcers that got announced.
Well, and
The play-by-play is Jeremy Austin.
The color person is Tommy, supposedly,
according to the pulse on episode one.
Is it going to be a three-person booth?
That's a four-person booth?
Yeah.
Or is it going to be like a rogue thing?
Yeah.
Like a rogue,
like what they do at the
rogue invitational when they have, like,
in between the events,
they're still talking.
Like, it could be some stuff like that.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I want to know more, but I...
I think they're as good as
anybody else to do it.
They were great at Rogue.
How bad is it to not test
squatting in a qualifier?
I have a feeling the second
qualifier is going to be all squatting.
I feel like there hasn't
been much squatting in the
open and other tests as well, too,
in the past few years.
Like I complained about this
a few years ago when the
only squatting that we had
was like forty wall balls.
And then like there was like
no squatting at like two of the stages.
And I was like, this is stupid.
We haven't been squatting
that much like in like high
volume for a while.
So I'm not surprised.
This is referencing the WFP qualifiers.
We are going to get into in
more detail right after this.
Lex asked a fun one.
If you had to choose one
food that you had to eat
for the rest of your life,
what would it be?
Steak and eggs.
It's my breakfast.
Yeah,
filet is probably what I would choose.
Chicken wings.
Yeah, you always like those chicken wings.
Well,
you can put different sauces on every
day and make it a different flavor.
So I'm not eating, you know what I mean?
Got to think about the versatility,
the way you can shake it up.
I actually just love chicken.
Like,
I could eat chicken breast all the time.
And you can put different
sauces on that as well.
But yeah, anyway.
Which other comps are Jamie
and Carolyn doing this year
other than Games and Legends?
Games and Legends.
Well, I'm not doing legends.
I mean,
do we even know what came of
legends last year?
People competed, people finished.
I think they said they were
going to give a prize first this year,
but I didn't see anything.
I heard that they did not,
but I could be wrong.
I'm going to do the NorCal
one June six to eight,
I think is the date.
I was already planning on
doing that one prior to it
being an event.
And then they moved it and I
was already committed to
that in my season.
The syndicate is the week prior.
I just don't think I could
do those two back to back with work.
Like I can't take that much
time off in the last month of school.
Nope.
That wouldn't be fair to me.
Yeah.
MFC is like my, my plan.
Is, is MFC individual and team this year?
Yeah.
Anyone could sign up for team.
Like,
like Haley and I could sign up for
two person female.
Okay.
But I think,
I think I'm just going to do individual.
Um, Lex also asked,
do you think that all age,
the age group registration
fees should go to the age
group group prize money
versus the general pool of money?
A hundred percent.
Sure.
They haven't said anything
about the masters.
They just said
I know.
Like how they're allocating
that between the different age groups.
Right.
If any of the semifinal
money is also going to the
prize pool or if it's just the open,
if there's any prize purse
to be won for the age group
in the semifinals,
like there's no info on any of that.
And I'm very curious because
the prize purse was pretty
good the last few years.
It will not be good.
Like you're going to go from
like twenty five K to what?
Five.
Maybe you think five.
Maybe.
Yeah.
I don't think it'll drop that far,
but the only thing I'll say
about the registration fees
for semis is they still
have to put the show on,
so some of that should go
to administrating the age
group CrossFit games.
Some kind of split,
but some of it should go to that as well.
Yeah,
because they need to make money as well.
I mean,
it's also going to be a fee to
compete there.
So I'm sure that's going to be like, frig,
if some of these comps, I mean,
some of the semifinals,
the NorCal one was like four hundred.
I don't know what they're
going to charge for the CrossFit Games.
I feel like at this point
we're going to get charged
like nine hundred dollars.
It'll probably be close to
that four hundred.
Yeah,
I think it's going to be four to five
hundred.
Lynn asks,
if you had to form a male-female
or a female-female team for
the CrossFit Games team comp of two,
who would you choose?
I would choose J.R.
Howell.
Well, that's your male, now female-female.
Am I trying to keep it in my age group?
Is that the point?
She did not stipulate any of that.
Honestly,
I'd probably choose my friend
Selena as a female.
I mean,
I'm going to go with the goat when
she's in CrossFit shape.
You can pick Holta.
I actually, Holta has always been like,
so I've had like three,
I always said to Lex,
like I have like three
favorite CrossFit athletes.
It's Holta.
I really liked Jamie green
when she was competing and Christy Armo.
Yeah.
I would probably pick Sam
Briggs quite honestly.
That's who I, Oh yeah.
Sam's up there too.
If that way you're keeping
it in your age group.
Yeah.
And Briggs.
Yeah.
Okay.
If I'm going in my age group,
I'm going Holta.
Um, if not, I guess, um,
I will clearly pick Lex if she's healthy,
but is that ever the case?
Well, she's due for something, you know,
it's, it's, we always say that like,
you know, it's been, it's been a year.
Um, but yeah.
Um,
I want to do a high rocks with Lexa.
Fergie asked,
love watching Carolyn grind
out a long chipper.
Does she like twenty minute
plus minute tests?
Not particularly,
unless it's a hockey period,
that's twenty minutes.
No, I mean,
most of my sports growing up were,
you know,
explosive stuff in terms of
CrossFit time domain.
I normally do well in that.
eight minutes, ten minutes and below.
I don't mind the twenty plus minutes.
I do it every day in
training in terms of
working on my conditioning.
It wouldn't be my favorite.
My question is,
I think you guys feel the same way.
You both want to do Indy.
If not, was your master's
If there was no Masters,
I'm guessing is what he's saying.
That's basically what I think he's saying.
Yeah, I'm lost there.
Yeah, but like you're saying,
so like Bill Grundler,
could he do the individual workouts?
A hundred percent.
Would he score high enough
to make a semis?
No.
So what's really the point?
There is an age where
we're not going to be competitive anymore.
Oh my goodness.
You guys are just pumping them in here.
Holy cow.
Lana said, will there be a GHD?
That's a good question.
Um, Lex was offended.
You didn't pick her up,
but then you did put in the
caveat about her being hurt all the time.
Oh no.
I said that.
I love doing partner stuff with Lex.
I think we're undefeated
when we compete together.
Um,
we have a really good time and she
compliments my weaknesses,
like her strengths are my weaknesses,
vice versa.
Um, no, I have a good time.
I was just trying to pick a
games athlete Lex.
Craig S is the pit teen comp
happening this year.
They actually merged the
teen CrossFit games,
which was at the pit and the,
the masters together.
And it'll happen here in Columbus,
but they're also holding a
pit showdown at the pit to
kind of pump up the athletes.
I think they usually do a
little camp with it.
Yeah.
They're still doing their pit.
It's got like the first two
days or first day or whatever.
It's like college.
There's yes.
They're still doing that.
And it's, yeah.
I don't know if it's still
labor day weekend or whatever.
It always isn't that may,
it may have moved by a week or two.
So their camp used to be
earlier in the summer.
And I think that's what they moved it to.
Okay.
Kind of coincide with that,
but don't quote me on that.
One of our teens is doing
the qualifiers right now
and is planning on going.
He's sitting pretty high.
So.
Yes, Craig, in Michigan.
Yes.
It will be in Michigan.
And they're going to do that
just like Legends does the
Masters games and Legends in the winter.
So just like that.
And there will be a college
comp at Masters games too.
Oh, really?
That's from Andrew Sten,
who is kind of part of the Legends team.
Interesting.
So, okay.
Well,
we're going to end questions for now.
We'll open that up again in
a couple of weeks.
When we,
when we have a lighter day with news,
but you guys both, well,
Jamie did the WFP qualifiers and,
And her name appears on the leaderboard.
No scores, though.
But her videos are out on
YouTube if you want to watch them.
Yes.
Her name is on the leaderboard,
but I have no idea if she's
done the qualifiers,
if she ever plans to do them.
So let's look at the
workouts and give me your thoughts.
And then if you did them,
maybe you have more insight than others.
And Carolyn can let us know
if she even did them or
decided not to this year.
So workout one was an AMRAP
of twenty minutes,
twenty and fifteen calorie row,
twenty lateral burpees over
the rower and forty shuttle runs.
I did notice the standard
was you didn't have to have
both feet off the ground
off over the rower and you
didn't have to touch the
floor with your hand on the shuttles,
which I like.
Yep.
So I know Jamie did it.
I saw her do it on video.
don't know if carolyn did it
what are your thoughts on
workout one I think it's a
good test yeah it's good
pure cardio like yeah do
you want to keep running
kind of it's a it's about
moving those shuttles so
yeah you can lose you can
definitely lose a lot of
time if you don't if you
don't have um good cadence
right like yeah
it's especially with,
without the touches on, on the ground,
it's a new movement maybe for some.
So just like the footwork
and stuff is often if you
get off a little bit,
it's just so easy on
shuttle runs to slow down a
little bit and it just adds up.
Yup.
Like it just, I liked it.
That's my jam right there.
uh lynn says she did wad one
it's literally a five k at
a hundred and seventy miles
an hour I think is what
she's saying heart rate and
wad three a hundred seventy
heart rate and wad three is
my type of jam I loved it I
think you and jamie flip
yeah we definitely flipped there
I did it.
My shoulder run just got meh.
That's where I lost most of my time.
I just didn't run as well.
I tried some side.
It was just awkward to me.
I think it would have taken
me too long to get that.
He side shuffled several of them.
Basketball shuffled and just...
I was never going to do that
the whole length.
What I was trying to do a
couple of times was like,
sort of do that to get my
feet across and then like
two over and then back to run.
And then, and instead of like turning,
just like chuff,
like side shuffling over
the line and back.
But it was, it just wasn't natural to me.
Workout two was very much
like an open workout with
the progressive gymnastics.
It had double unders, lots of them.
So it starts a fifteen minute time cap.
And it is for, it is for time, correct?
Correct.
A hundred and fifty double unders,
then the double dumbbell
farmer's walking lunges,
then forty-five pull-ups,
then a hundred and twenty double unders,
a hundred foot of double
dumbbell front rack walking lunges,
thirty chest-to-bar pull-ups,
then ninety double unders,
a hundred foot of double
dumbbell overhead walking lunges,
fifteen bar muscle-ups.
The dumbbell weight was fifty thirty-five.
Yeah.
This reminded me so much
Scott of the one you came and videoed me.
The masters semifinals
workout reminded me of that
workout so much.
I just didn't do as good as I did.
I don't know.
It was just like, I,
I decided to do these on Thursday and I,
and I did it Thursday night
and it just wasn't my cleanest execution.
I don't have time.
Like I did one Thursday,
did the number three Friday,
totally messed it up.
Ronica was judging me and like,
had no clue what was going on.
She's like, I was like,
I need to start in two minutes.
She's like, well then start now.
And then I was like,
I have to stop in five minutes.
She's like, well then stop now.
We were, she was so far off in the time.
Like I started early and I
only got to lift.
I only like did cleans for like a minute.
Like she ended me like seconds early.
I was like, what a show.
So that was a waste of a
workout on Friday.
And then Saturday I did the other one,
the number two or number one.
Yesterday I did the shuttle one.
And then today I redid
number three correctly.
I love your peeps at the gym.
They're so much fun to be around.
But when it comes to like
the organization on a elite
athlete comp day,
I want to pull my hair out.
Yeah.
It's, there's, it's a lot like,
it's not Ron's fault.
It's just, yeah.
Well, there,
there are detail oriented
people and there are the
people that brought their strength.
And like, when it comes to those things,
when I was a judge,
like I was very detailed
about those things, setting up the camera,
right.
Getting the clock synced.
Like all those things are important.
Yeah.
and uh yeah it's crazy I
took my son today and I was
like you're doing the math
tell me when I'm starting
tell me when I'm stopping
so he was there today I pr
my double unders nice nice
I did one fifty unbroken
dang I've never done that
so I will take that as a win
So Kenneth is asking about
the leaderboard and I know
some people in the chat
have answered him.
The issue with the
leaderboard is barely
anybody has put in their scores.
Yeah.
So you can go see fee scores
if you want to see those.
And she is the only one of
name recognition that has
put in all of their scores.
So it doesn't really say a
lot about where people
stand at this moment.
Right.
Lynn says, look at Carolyn.
Look at you go, Carolyn.
For me, that's just like,
I don't really care about
this qualifier because I
wouldn't even be able to do
the Indiana one if I were to qualify.
But I just wanted to do some
tough workouts this week
just to kind of get ready
for the online workouts, semifinal.
But it was a...
it was a mental win versus like,
I don't like versus my
score just because anytime
that there's a higher
volume double under on the
spot that pops up,
like the first thing that
will go into like in my head will be like,
okay, well there goes my shot.
Like I won't qualify in
these four workouts.
So just to know now that
like my skipping is getting back to being,
I guess,
normal ish type of double unders
gives me confidence going
into the online summies
that if something does pop up,
that's two hundred on the
spot or three hundred.
I'm not three to four
minutes behind people.
because like that that
happened like my whole
career basically we had
three hundred two hundred
one hundred double unders
the one year on the online
semi-finals and what was
taking people you know
three hundred double unders
was taking three minutes
for people it was taking me
six minutes and the
commentators were like I
think prev was injured and
I was like I just can't do them
And like, I was just like dead last,
but like,
it didn't matter how fast I was
doing the muscle ups or the lunges.
Like I was just so far
behind on the double unders that like,
no matter what it was paired with,
it was just so bad.
So it was more just a mental win, I guess,
this weekend to be able to do that.
Yeah.
Vi asks, Carolyn,
would you say double unders
are no longer a weakness for you?
No,
because I still think that I have to
focus on them.
I can't just pick up the rope and just go.
I'm thinking about all the
drills that I've done and
certain positions that I
want to maintain.
And if I start losing it, it's like, okay,
stop.
So it's not as natural as
someone that can just pick
up the rope and do whatever,
miss and just keep going.
I will say I did not do the
one-fifty unbroken.
But I actually felt like my
dubs were fine in that workout.
I just was,
I sort of mentally gave up on
the overhead walking lunge.
And then I went to go
unbroken on the fifteen bar
muscle ups and I only got fourteen.
I went for it.
I usually don't.
I was like, nah, just go for it.
Why not?
So let's move on to workout three.
It is a two-parter.
First one is five rounds for
time of a seven-minute cap,
fifty-foot handstand walk,
unbroken sections of twenty-five feet,
and then ten deadlifts at
three-fifteen to twenty-five.
And then at the seven-minute mark,
you then go into fifteen
wall walk complexes,
which is one wall walk,
one wall facing handstand push-up,
And in the remaining time,
max cleans at two twenty
five one fifty five.
So it's not at the seven minute mark.
And OK, it's so it's written very poorly.
It is because Jamie messaged
me today or yesterday.
You messaged me today
because it just says at the completion,
like add two minutes and
then begin part two.
And I was like,
there's no way you're just
starting like at this random number.
Like there was no example
given in the thingy.
Like I wrote to them and I was like,
when do you start part two?
Like,
is it cause it said like you rest a
minimum of two minutes.
Okay.
Like if you finish fast,
you should get rewarded and then get,
you start at the seven minute and then at,
or I'm sorry, you get timed up at seven,
you begin at the nine minute.
And then they're like, no, you begin,
let's say you do it at in five minutes,
you begin at the seven
minutes or four thirty,
you begin at the six thirty.
And I was like, oh wow.
But like, there's no examples of that.
Like it's,
it's written poorly so that
was so that was the issue
and this is why so ronica
was trying to make me start
at nine and I and I had the
first time I did it I had
finished in five something
or whatever in the and I'm
like I have to start like
when do I start like I know
I need to be going and
she's just like waiting for
the nine minute mark and
I'm like I need to be going yeah
uh so the pack says can can
spinning hook kick a moving
human in the head but can't
dub she can dub just fine
it's funny because I used
to skip all the time like
in martial arts like we
would do that as a warm-up
all the time I just don't
know what happened over the
years her athletic with her
athleticism it's hard to
comprehend yeah it's frustrating
Now we're back to the questions.
Would Jamie rather do a
hundred burpees for time or
chaperone in eighth grade pool party?
I'd probably rather do a
hundred burpees for time.
A hundred percent a hundred
burpees for time.
Yeah, that's quick.
All right.
So those are the workouts.
You guys did them.
Jamie, you're going to enter them in.
Carolyn,
you said you wouldn't be able to
compete in Indy even if you put them in.
No, but I do like that first workout,
that first part of that workout.
the deadlift hands I figured
you would love that I was
happy I think my score
would be pretty good on
that one yeah I was happy
with that I I just did them
because like I don't think
I have a shot but
especially with that third
workout um but like since
I'm gone all week I'm not
gonna have good training so
I was like might as well
hit three hard workouts
this weekend and use it as
like that's my training yeah
And do you pay the twenty
five dollars to make
yourself do all three?
Yes.
I was like,
I could just do them and see my
look at my score.
But I was like,
just pay in your name up there and.
I paid almost when it's open
just to kind of support the league.
And then I originally wasn't
going to do them this weekend.
And then Lex is like, just use it as,
you know, they're good workouts.
Just do them, see where you are,
like continue a training
and get ready for the online summies,
but just kind of use it as
a gauge of what you need to
work on without like
killing yourself to redo or,
or the pressure, I guess.
But if that,
if that three a wants to pop
back up for online semifinals,
I am down for that workout.
I thought it was going to
get time capped and I didn't.
So I'm thrilled.
All right.
With all of that,
let's hit some quick hit
new stuff and then we'll
get out of here tonight.
We talked about a little bit
last week that CrossFit did
announce that they're up for sale.
In the last week,
someone of significance has
expressed an interest in buying CrossFit.
And so I am going to share this.
And this is a copy of a copy of
of a copy.
This was posted by Mike Halpin.
It was Shawn Johnson on her
Instagram stories posted
that dear CrossFit
community we are in talks
to bring together an
ownership group to buy what
we think is an incredible
organization and system
that has changed our lives
and the lives of many
others for the better.
We've been to affiliates
across the country and
across the world and you
get the rest of it.
You can read it there.
But that is a pretty big name.
Olympic,
two thousand and eight Olympic gymnast,
gold medalist Shawn Johnson
expressing interest
publicly that her and her
team are trying to put
together buyers to buy CrossFit.
Any thoughts on that?
I thought it was cool that
she put that on her story.
I think if anyone follows
gymnastics at the Olympics,
you know who that is.
I don't know what type of
business model and stuff
that they would know and stuff.
But in terms of,
I just thought it was cool
that she was interested in
the company and said great
things about it.
Yeah.
Cluny says,
ownership group spells big
problems for the community.
It depends on the ownership group.
You have ownership groups
that athletes put together
like Magic Johnson did with
the Dodgers and the
Washington football team.
And you have like A-Rod did
with the Minnesota Timberwolves.
And it's not a board of directors.
It's just a group of people
who have come together and
taken ownership stake.
That's different than
private equity trying to
make a profit immediately.
Yeah.
So you need to separate
those two kinds of
investment groups and it
would depend on where she
got the money from.
If it comes from private equity,
then red flag.
Yeah.
You see a lot of ownership groups,
especially in like
professional sports that
just come together so they
have enough money to buy it
and they'll all have parts of it.
Like you're seeing athletes
invest into different teams and,
and stuff like that too.
So I don't think it's crazy
to think that they'd put
together something that's
good I just don't know um
what the competition is
like to to buy it um fergie
points out that this would
make uh larry young
extremely happy um because
if sean johnson buys
crossfit get ready for more
gymnastics in the open um
And Lana points out she has
a lot of followers.
And she has more followers
than anybody in the CrossFit space.
Yeah.
CrossFit said, hey,
Tom Brady with a stake in Noble,
who also funds St.
John's NIL.
There you go.
And Ryan Reynolds nearly bought the Sens.
Is this true?
Yeah.
Yeah.
Who knows?
Um, someone,
I think it was Charlie brought up to me,
Damon, John, um,
owned a CrossFit affiliate.
Um,
and I don't know if you know him from
shark tank, uh,
but that's the money there too.
Uh,
Larry will take gymnastics over cardio.
And yeah, I did want to point this out.
This is something Chris
Cooper has been saying,
that for CrossFit to
succeed at this point,
you need to focus on it as
a movement and the sport second.
And that's his opinion.
I think you can do both,
but the way they've
attacked the sport has been
It's way too much to get
into at this point in the show.
Maybe we'll talk about it another time,
my feelings on that,
or maybe I'll talk it on
lunch show or something.
But I think it could... Yeah.
So then we have James Sprague,
who had to do his
punishment for open losses.
And if you didn't see it...
Oh, what did he do?
It is.
Oh, it's hilarious.
The Minion Dance.
Oh, no.
Guys, this is Bob the Minion, a.k.a.
James Fragg.
Just took a loss in at
twenty five point two.
So I'll be performing Pink Pony Club here.
Let's get it on.
so I have to mute music at
times or we will get dinged
but um he had to dance to
pink pony and he lip syncs
I actually think he sings
along a little bit a little
bit but he gives it his all yeah
Dude, his freaking quads are so jacked.
There we go.
So that is James and his loss and penalty.
Sarah asks, who lost week three?
Justin.
He didn't know the workout.
Yeah, exactly.
Cross said, James is like weird jacked.
Yeah, he really is.
Like at first you're like,
like you see him and Dillon
and Dillon is just jacked.
But like you see James like that,
you're like, Jesus,
he's actually freaking jacked.
Well, he's six four like that.
That's different than six one.
That's the thing.
It's hard to get that jacked.
And he is.
Justin is getting pink hair.
No way.
I knew it was supposed to be just the tips,
like just the edge or the whole thing.
I think it's the whole thing.
Damn.
Oh, boy.
They were negotiating to a
dye job as opposed to a shave.
Okay.
Yeah, he can't shave that.
Yeah, I don't want to shave it.
Because he was like, listen,
you guys all have short hair.
If you lost,
you'd have it back in a month.
Agreed.
It would take me half a year
to get back his trademark mullet.
Yeah.
Dallin and Jason look like
former football players.
James looks jacked,
but he also still hasn't
grown into his limbs like a child.
Oh, no.
Vi wants Justin to bleach it
first so it gets really pink.
Yeah, that's a big ask.
All right.
And then I have a couple more things here.
On the spin,
John Young predicted that Tia
would retire after the Torian Pro.
Thoughts?
And then not continue with
the CrossFit season?
Correct.
Hmm.
I feeling do the Torian pro
in Australia and call it a day.
And then he said,
move on to win high rocks.
She does seem like she's
invested in high rocks a little bit.
I must say.
Well,
I think it's good for their business too.
I wouldn't be surprised at all.
Like she doesn't need to
prove anything else in, in,
in the CrossFit space.
I feel like she could train two months,
two months for the games
and just come back and win easily.
I think so.
Maybe a month and a half.
I think she's the type of
athlete that likes challenges.
She did Olympic lifting at the Olympics.
She qualified the bobsled team.
If she has a chance to do
well in this sport here,
I think this is something
that's challenging her and
keeping her hungry.
I can't imagine what it's
like winning seven times
and still having that fire and
and all that.
So I think she just wants
that challenged on the other side.
And I think she's trying to
go all in there right now.
And I won't be surprised to
have her not continue with the season.
Um, if that's the case, uh, Fergie says,
leave the shoes on home soil.
And he's referring to,
it's kind of a tradition,
especially in the, in the,
on the women's side of
CrossFit that when you're done,
you leave your shoes on the floor.
I just don't know that.
I don't know.
I mean,
I know she kind of had that
retirement announcement,
but I just feel like she
doesn't actually want to retire.
I just think she wants to do
whatever she wants to do.
Yeah, I don't.
He says he has no evidence to this.
It's a feeling he has.
How old is she?
Thirty thirty two.
Yeah, something like that.
The only unless like she
want they want to have
another kid like that's.
even still I could see her
coming back yeah I don't
know I just wanted to get
your opinion um the last
thing I'm gonna say uh this
is just I I watched the
behind the scenes this week
for episode four and five
uh that they did at the
games I've really enjoyed
them this year because it I
left the games with missing
pieces in my mind and this
has helped with some of the
aspects of that
Um,
episode four really focused for the
first time on,
there were athletes that
really wanted to be there
and their athletes that
really didn't want to be there.
And you kind of see the split, uh,
in episode four and it kind
of shows that go down and not, not in a,
like you're wrong for this
or just them expressing how
they're feeling.
Um,
And then episode five
started with a really great
talk from Luke Parker about
his experiences with Lazar
and how that helped him.
Luke never didn't want to
compete because of his
relationship with Lazar,
and he wanted to honor him
and be able to do that
throughout the weekend.
He talks about the whys behind that,
and it's really good.
But the thing that this
episode kind of pointed out to me,
just like episode two
showed the safety briefing
at the opening briefing
before the swim that I
never knew occurred.
Then this one showed Don
Fall apologizing to the
athletes for putting them
in the position that they did.
My problem with it is if the
timeline is correct in the
behind the scenes,
that happened on Saturday evening.
Most of the athletes who
withdrew already left.
If that's where you're going
to do the apology, that was way late.
And he says at the beginning of it,
and he probably didn't know
he was being filmed.
And he says at the beginning of it,
I'm sorry, we were busy with X, Y,
and Z. And I get that you
were busy because something
tragic happened and you had
to deal with that.
But those athletes needed to
hear from you that day,
not a day and a half later.
And so that's the only thing.
So it's putting some pieces
of the puzzle together for me.
And I've said all along, listen,
I've never been in a situation like that,
that that's tragic.
And to judge people on their
worst day is never a good thing.
But at least I'm starting to
understand things and why
people felt the way they did.
And it just gives me a
better understanding going forward.
And so if you,
if you have the opportunity to watch it,
I think it's good to kind
of fill in those pieces.
Um,
but it also has some lighthearted stuff
in it as well.
Like Alexis talking about
miscounting her mile laps and they go,
they talked to Brooke about,
she was behind Alexis and was like,
Oh my gosh, she's kicking now.
Like I keep up with this.
And, um,
And so she backs off and
they were just hoping that
Alexis would die.
And then they talked to her coach going,
I saw her kick and I was like,
she miscounted the laps.
And she was still able to
pull off that heat.
That was crazy.
It was unreal.
And so that was really cool, too.
There are some lighthearted,
typical behind the scenes moments,
but you also get some
answers to some questions
you may have had for the
past nine months and at
least have a better
understanding of what went
down and why people feel the way they do.
So I just wanted to say that
I think they've been very worthwhile.
I was afraid to watch them
because I was emotional at the games.
I was emotional after the
games and I didn't want to
be taken all the way back there.
But I think this has been
good for me to finally have closure.
If that makes sense to anybody.
Julian says preach Scott.
don't think I'm not trying
to preach I'm just saying
that I'm just glad I have
some pieces to the puzzle
and that I can move on from
this finally because I like
I have not been doing very
many athlete interviews
because I just don't know
how to approach it in a way
and so now it allows me to
see what the athletes felt
because they actually say
it in episode four
and in episode five you see
kind of when things
happened um and I do have
someone scheduled not for
this week but for the next
week but we are going to
have area low and on nice
on not this wednesday but
next wednesday and I'm
working on some others too
but with mayhem coming and
the all the events coming
it's hard to get people
scheduled right now but I'm
trying to do that
yeah so look for the
thumbnail hopefully you'll
be up um ecaptures is
trying to get me some
photos for a thumbnail and
then we'll get that up
quickly and you'll see that
out there for I think it's
april third wednesday april
third does that make sense
the third is the is
thursday april second then
thursday april second
wednesday april second
wednesday april second
And it's a four o'clock Eastern time,
three o'clock central one
o'clock Pacific.
So, yep.
Well,
so we're going to get back into that too.
Um, but yeah, Carolyn, will the,
will a Canadian team ever
win a cup again?
I thought Edmonton was going
to do it and then they didn't.
I don't know.
I hope the Habs can go on a
little run here and make
the playoffs and then surprise.
Because I don't want the
Leafs to be the next team,
the next Canadian team to
win a cup because I will
never hear the end of it.
Thank you, CrossFit.
It is second of April, Wednesday.
That is when the interview is.
Yeah,
I think a Canadian team will win the
cup again for sure.
Edmonton has the talent.
It's just,
can they put it together for a season?
Well, with that,
that's all the quick hit
news we had for the week.
Do you guys have anything
before we say goodbye?
I gotta go pack.
We'll have a blast on your vacation.
I will.
I won't text you because I
don't want you to get overseas fees.
I don't, I don't know what,
What am I playing?
I don't know.
I feel like phone plans now
include international.
Maybe not.
I don't know.
I'm sure.
