Sidekick's What Just Shipped

HubSpot's conversational enrichment, in public beta, reads one-to-one sales emails and replies to marketing emails and updates contact data for you, including new contacts and return-to-office dates.

Show Notes

HubSpot's conversational enrichment, in public beta, reads one-to-one sales emails and replies to marketing emails and updates contact data for you, including new contacts and return-to-office dates. First thing to try: read the mapping note, then turn on one setting at a time under Data Management, Data Enrichment, Conversational Enrichment.

Who it's for: revenue operations and data quality owners, sales managers, and HubSpot admins on Starter, Professional, or Enterprise editions of Marketing Hub, Sales Hub, Service Hub, Data Hub, or Content Hub.

Our research first covered this on September 25, 2026. Here's where it stands as of our Oct 31, 2026 check. HubSpot's help article (updated Sep 9, 2026) still calls this a public beta with no HubSpot credits required. Our write-up placed the setting under Settings, then Tools, and tied features to Breeze Intelligence credit plans. HubSpot lists Starter through Enterprise hub tiers and a Conversational Enrichment tab under Data Management. HubSpot also says conversational enrichment ignores the Mapping tab and overwrite rules. We couldn't confirm that each change appears in the contact's activity feed.

What is Sidekick's What Just Shipped?

Sidekick's What Just Shipped is the fast, friendly way to keep up with HubSpot without reading every release note yourself. Each episode, AI hosts Rob and Dana take one feature HubSpot shipped and tell you where it stands right now: what changed, how it got here, who it's for, and what to do on Monday. Rob explains. Dana pushes back. Nobody pretends.

Every episode starts from Sidekick Strategies research on the HubSpot Updates page at sidekickstrategies.com and is checked against official HubSpot sources. If something isn't confirmed, the hosts say so out loud. Episodes run six to eight minutes, and new ones arrive five a week while we catch up on recent releases.

Presented by Sidekick Strategies, a HubSpot solutions partner.

Rob (AI host): Your contact's new phone number is sitting in an email signature, and the CRM still has the old one.
Dana (AI host): HubSpot's conversational enrichment, in public beta, reads email conversations and updates contact data for you.
Rob (AI host): Stay for the setting that ignores your mapping rules, because that's the one to plan around.
Narrator (AI voice): This is Sidekick's What Just Shipped, presented by Sidekick Strategies.
Narrator (AI voice): Your hosts, Rob and Dana, are AI.
Narrator (AI voice): The voices are synthetic, the research is real, and humans check every claim before it reaches you.
Rob (AI host): Hello, we're Rob and Dana, your AI hosts.
Rob (AI host): Our sources are two HubSpot help articles, one on conversational enrichment for emails and one on data enrichment settings.
Dana (AI host): My turn: today I'm playing a hypothetical revenue operations manager who owns data quality and gets blamed for every stale record.
Rob (AI host): Perfect fit.
Rob (AI host): Why it matters: email threads hold the freshest contact details you have, and this writes them into the CRM without manual entry.
Dana (AI host): What does it pick up, exactly?
Rob (AI host): HubSpot's examples: it can detect when a contact is returning to the office from out-of-office emails, when they're leaving their job, and it can create new contacts mentioned in email threads.
Dana (AI host): Which emails does it read?
Rob (AI host): One-to-one sales emails, and replies to marketing emails.
Dana (AI host): Who can use it?
Rob (AI host): Starter, Professional, or Enterprise editions of Marketing Hub, Sales Hub, Service Hub, Data Hub, or Content Hub.
Dana (AI host): And the cost?
Rob (AI host): HubSpot says conversational enrichment doesn't require HubSpot credits while in public beta.
Dana (AI host): So free for now, not forever, maybe.
Rob (AI host): That's the safe reading. HubSpot only describes the beta.
Dana (AI host): What has to be true before I turn it on?
Rob (AI host): Generative AI tools and features must be enabled in your account.
Rob (AI host): And the setting is applied at the account level.
Dana (AI host): And who sees the updates?
Rob (AI host): Enriched data updates CRM records, and any user with access to those records can view the updates.
Dana (AI host): So my whole sales team sees what email changed?
Rob (AI host): Anyone with access to those records, yes. Worth telling your reps before you switch it on.
Dana (AI host): Who's allowed to change the settings?
Rob (AI host): From HubSpot's data enrichment settings article: Super Admin permissions are required to configure enrichment settings.
Dana (AI host): Okay. Where do I go?
Rob (AI host): Click the settings icon, then in the left sidebar go to Data Management, then Data Enrichment, and click the Conversational Enrichment tab.
Dana (AI host): And what's on that tab?
Rob (AI host): Email Contact Enrichment updates contact profiles with key information from emails logged in the account, such as job title, first and last name, phone, mobile phone, and address fields.
Dana (AI host): Fax made the list too?
Rob (AI host): It did. HubSpot's list also includes city, country, state, and zip.
Dana (AI host): Next?
Rob (AI host): New Contact Extraction automatically creates new contact records, enriched with relevant data found in the email.
Dana (AI host): So someone mentioned in a thread could become a contact.
Rob (AI host): That's HubSpot's own example, new contacts mentioned in email threads.
Rob (AI host): Plan for some new records showing up.
Dana (AI host): Can I turn these on separately?
Rob (AI host): HubSpot lists them as separate settings in the Conversational Enrichment section, and you configure each one there.
Dana (AI host): And the out-of-office one?
Rob (AI host): Return-To-Office Detection updates the Returning To Office Detected date property when a contact is back from an out-of-office period.
Dana (AI host): So it's a date, not a simple yes or no.
Rob (AI host): Right. It's the Returning To Office Detected date property, updated when the contact is back.
Dana (AI host): Hypothetically, that's a nice trigger for a follow-up task.
Rob (AI host): As a hypothetical, sure. HubSpot just documents the date property.
Dana (AI host): And my reps, can they enrich records too?
Rob (AI host): For enrichment in general, HubSpot says Data enrichment access or Super Admin permissions are required to enrich records.
Rob (AI host): An admin goes to Users and Teams, clicks Edit permissions on a user, then Data Management, and toggles Data enrichment access.
Dana (AI host): So two different permission levels.
Rob (AI host): Exactly. Super Admin for the settings, and Data enrichment access for enriching records.
George B. Thomas (AI voice clone): Hey, it's George B. Thomas from Sidekick Strategies.
George B. Thomas (AI voice clone): Full honesty, this is my AI voice clone, made with my permission.
George B. Thomas (AI voice clone): Automatic updates work best on a CRM that's already built to match how your team works.
George B. Thomas (AI voice clone): Sidekick's CRM implementation maps your sales process before touching a single setting, then sets up properties, pipelines, and contact management rules that keep data clean.
George B. Thomas (AI voice clone): It includes data migration support and training.
George B. Thomas (AI voice clone): Find CRM Implementation under services at Sidekick Strategies dot com.
Rob (AI host): Now the part you were promised.
Rob (AI host): HubSpot's note says conversational enrichment does not follow the settings on the Mapping tab of data enrichment.
Dana (AI host): Meaning what, in practice?
Rob (AI host): It can update contact properties regardless of your mapping.
Rob (AI host): And the settings article adds that it can overwrite properties regardless of the overwrite rules you set.
Dana (AI host): So Fill empty values only won't protect me.
Rob (AI host): Not from this.
Rob (AI host): HubSpot's fix is simple: to prevent it from updating contact data, turn off the relevant conversational enrichment settings.
Dana (AI host): Huh, good to know.
Rob (AI host): One more caveat.
Rob (AI host): Contacts created by conversational enrichment won't automatically sync lifecycle stages from their primary company, until the company's lifecycle stage is updated after the contact is created.
Dana (AI host): Okay, the skeptic part. Our research says you find this under Settings, then Tools.
Rob (AI host): HubSpot's article says Data Management, then Data Enrichment, then the Conversational Enrichment tab.
Dana (AI host): Our write-up also ties the features to Breeze Intelligence credit plans.
Rob (AI host): HubSpot's current article lists Starter through Enterprise editions of five hubs instead, with no credits needed during the beta.
Dana (AI host): And it says every change shows in the contact's activity feed.
Rob (AI host): We couldn't confirm that in HubSpot's articles.
Rob (AI host): The data enrichment settings do have an Activity tab where you can review events and revert changes, but HubSpot doesn't say conversational updates land there.
Dana (AI host): Then I'll check it myself before trusting it.
Rob (AI host): Alright, your plan, hypothetical ops manager.
Dana (AI host): Step one: confirm generative AI tools are on, and that a Super Admin will own the settings.
Rob (AI host): Step two: decide which properties you'd let email overwrite, since mapping and overwrite rules won't stop it.
Dana (AI host): Step three: turn on one setting at a time on the Conversational Enrichment tab.
Rob (AI host): Step four: spot-check updated records, and watch lifecycle stages on new contacts.
Dana (AI host): Ops manager's verdict: worth it, but only for properties I'm happy to let email rewrite.
Rob (AI host): Let the inbox do the typing, carefully.
Dana (AI host): Both HubSpot help articles and our research are linked in the show notes, with more at Sidekick Strategies dot com.
