Noon Hour Of Madness & Mayhem

Based on this episode, the standout thread is Peaches being abandoned by Viktor for an extended birthday celebration and immediately finding someone equally willing to debate video games, wedding songs, fishing, and life choices. The episode starts with a birthday horror story that somehow includes missing a first college class, a dead car battery, five miles of punishment running, and crawling home for cake like a defeated action hero. From there, Peaches and FJ settle one of gaming's biggest debates by determining that the people who dislike Xbox the most might actually be Xbox owners, while also preparing for the societal collapse that could occur if GTA VI somehow fails to live up to a decade of hype. They also tackle the important question of whether using a breakup song as your wedding's first dance is romantic or a legally documented warning sign, leading to FJ revealing that his dream wedding involves getting married during Metallica's "Enter Sandman" with pyrotechnics and absolutely no concern for venue costs. The show wraps up with discussions about dead fish taking over an Arizona lake, why catch-and-release fishing confuses Peaches, and whether Idaho's outdoor lifestyle could survive a visit from his extremely anti-fishing California family. In short: one part gaming convention, one part wedding planner, one part outdoor survival guide, and somehow all of it makes perfect sense.

What is Noon Hour Of Madness & Mayhem?

The Noon Hour Of Madness & Mayhem can be heard live on KBEAR 101 weekdays at 12pm MST. Viktor and Peaches talk about a wide variety of topics depending on the day and you never know what to expect!

[upbeat jazz music] The noon hour of Madness and Mayhem, the podcast.

Well, it's the noon hour of Madness and Mayhem. It's Monday, and Victor is not here because he is still celebrating his, uh, his birthday weekend.

I, I can't, I can't say anything about it. I did the same thing.

It was your birthday also?

Well, no, but on my birthday weekend, I definitely made it really long.

It-

Mine was over Memorial Day, so I already had-

Oh

... extra time.

Gotcha.

And I-

Lucky you

... I, I took even more time. It was like a five-day weekend.

Oh, that'd be nice.

Oh, it was perfect.

Dude, my, my birthday was, uh, always the, the, the first part of the school year. It was sometimes the first day of school for a lot of people.

Oh, my brother's is that way. I always feel bad for him.

When is his?

Uh, September 1st.

Uh, August 29th.

Uh, yeah.

My dad's is September 2nd, the same thing for him.

Yeah. That, that would be miserable.

When I had birthday parties as a kid, I would try having sleepovers and stuff like that, you know?

That didn't go so well, did it?

And of course, most of them, "Hey, sorry, we gotta prepare for the school year," and-

Oh, yeah

... dang education.

Happy birthday. Welcome back to school.

Right, my first day of college, I turned 18. [laughs]

[laughs]

And that was a very... That was, that was such a bad experience because, uh, it took me forever to find a parking space, 'cause I didn't realize it was gonna be that crowded.

Well, yeah, it's college.

A- it took me three hours. I missed my entire first class. I found the exact last spot in the lot after searching. I'm crying on the phone to my parents saying, "I missed my first class. What's going on here?"

[laughs]

I, I pull into the spot, go to my second class of the day. My parents are emailing back and forth with the professor of my first class, trying to b- trying not to have me dropped because I missed-

Oh, no. [laughs]

... the first day. Luckily, it all worked out okay. But then I get back to my car on my lunch break,

my battery dies.

Oh, yeah.

So my parents had to come out with, with AAA.

Happy birthday.

Re- replace the battery, and then I had basketball practice, and we had to, uh... The, the first week of being on that basketball team was pure and utter heck, as I'll say on- here on the air.

Oh, yeah.

Um, we had to run five miles around the track. Have you, have you ever done 20 laps [laughs] around a track?

Uh, no. No.

[laughs]

I'm not much of a runner.

It-

Never have been

... it was one of the... We... You would be bored, 'cause you would just be running the whole time. So you'd watch the football practice that was taking place in the middle, because the football field-

Oh, yeah

... was in the middle of the track. And after that, you, you would then have basketball practice.

That sounds like the worst day ever.

So then I had to crawl. I drove back to my parents' place.

[laughs]

I literally crawled from my old 2003 Honda Element-

[laughs]

... to [laughs], to, uh, my parents' place, to the front door, went upstairs, showered, and then properly celebrated my birthday with cake [laughs]

[laughs]

As I turned the big 1-8.

I would have celebrated with a nap.

Oh. It was, uh, it was already like 7:00 PM.

Oh yeah, nap time.

Dude, I've, I've developed this horrible habit of taking a nap after work is over.

Uh, that's the worst time to do it.

I, I wa- I wake up at like 6:50.

Uh, yeah, and then what do you do after that? It, your day is done.

I go for a walk around the Greenbelt now.

[laughs]

I, I, I... That, that's, that's the best way to get me, uh, out there in the sun for a little bit before it sets.

There you go.

It was a little cold last night. My friend Brian, he dared me to do three laps around the entire thing.

Oh, wow.

I, I did one, uh, but then it got so windy and so cold that I'm like, "If I stay out here any longer, it's just gonna be unbearable."

It's that beautiful Idaho weather.

I still got... Uh, well, I did see a low of like 35 this week.

Uh-huh. Yeah. I'm wearing a sweatshirt.

[laughs] I, I'm, uh, I'm a little concerned. I, I might need to get the, the walk done tonight. I might need to get the whole, the three laps done. I'll send you a picture of all the steps-

Okay, sounds good

... if I, if I, if I get it done.

All right.

Then you can live vicariously through me the same way that you did when I ran those five miles around the track.

Yes. [upbeat jazz music]

Well, just like that last topic, so cold from Breaking Benjamin on the noon hour of Madness and Mayhem.

[laughs]

Uh, and I, I was talking to Jeff off the air. I was like, "I don't think I introduced you on that last break."

It's okay. If people don't know me, they're not that cool anyways.

You're, you're Jeff, AKA FJ, and you now host weekends-

I do

... on KBEAR 101.

Yeah, yeah. That, that's a thing.

Which is awesome.

People, you should tune in and listen.

Absolutely, I'm, I'm sure they are. I'm sure they're, they're probably like, "Well, Peaches sounds different now."

Wow. He's, he sounds sexier.

Right. Yeah.

[laughs]

Sounds better. [laughs] I saw... Uh, I was gonna talk to you about this, 'cause I know you're a fellow, uh, video gamer as well.

Oh, yes.

And you have, you have just the PC?

Oh, no. I'm an X- or I'm a PlayStation guy.

I was... [laughs] You almost said Xbox right there.

I know. That would've been-

[laughs]

I used to play Xbox. Then I got smart and got a PlayStation.

Oh, right. Right. Yeah, no, I sold my, uh, my Xboxes. I, I did, I did just see a question on Reddit or a post, rather a statement, talking about how, uh, Xbox haters are Xbox owners. The biggest Xbox haters-

[laughs]

... are just the Xbox owners, and I gotta agree.

That, that kinda makes sense. Like, my friend that has an Xbox is always complaining.

The PlayStation 5 is definitely the superior system.

It, I, I think it is. Th- their e- everything is better about it.

But unfortunately, I got rid of most... I got rid of all my consoles. Well, just my two consoles that I had left.

But you've got a PC. I mean-

I've got a PC now. And I still need to upgrade parts.

That's the problem with PCs. Once you get one, it's like, "Well, it's been a year. I've gotta upgrade half of it."

Right. Yeah, yeah. That's the, that's the worst part. Plus, I won't be able to play GTA VI, I don't think, until, uh, it comes out on PC like a year after it's already out for the, the console players.

Oh, 'cause it's gonna come out for the consoles first.

[laughs] I know.

Woo.

[laughs] Maybe I should take out another credit card, [laughs] go buy a PS5-

Yes, you should

... and play GTA VI. I got, I got till November, so I still got a few months to save.

Oh, yeah. You'll be fine. Just start saving some pennies.

Um, GTA VI is gonna be such a huge game that I'm looking at the release schedule here that somebody posted.

Yeah.

From August 27th all the way to October 29th, we get all of these games for all the systems out there because nobody wants to dare-Put out anything in the month of November

Uh, I, I mean it's... I'm a little surprised. It's right before Christmas. That's when all the games come out, but-

Usually. Yes, yeah, 'cause p- kids, I, I remember as a kid wanting to put all these video games on my Christmas list.

I'm pretty sure GTA VI is the most expensive thing ever done.

I, I'm, I'm sure it's gonna be just... It's gonna crash for like the first month.

If it's not the greatest game ever-

That's, that's what I was wondering too

... there are gonna be riots in the street.

It's gonna be the biggest flop ever if they-

[laughs]

... somehow get it wrong.

I'm scared for the world if that happens.

[sighs] And there's been so many rumors and so much build-up after all this time. What if it just sucks?

Our grandkids will hear about that.

Oh, yeah, just like how, you know, Rockzilla happened in 2022, and people are still talking about that.

Exactly.

Uh, this is n- that's nowhere near compared to GTA VI. [laughs]

Oh, no. It's gonna be like World War III.

Oh, yeah. Yeah, yeah. Uh, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare IV is coming out October 23rd, and usually those games come out in like November.

They are putting one out this year?

Yeah.

Oh, they were supposed to be waiting a year.

I thought that was last year.

No, they, they did, uh, Black Ops.

Oh, Black Ops 7? 6?

Yeah, I th- Whatever it was.

6, 7?

They, uh, they said they were gonna skip a year in between releases to make them better.

Uh, well, people are saying this one's looking good, but who knows? Call of Duty's kind of fallen.

It's gonna be the same game, the same maps.

Right.

That, that's what Call of Duty does.

But I am excited for that Wolverine game to come out.

Oh, that looks pretty sweet.

That, that trailer looked pretty awesome.

Yeah.

One day I, I wanna be a voice somewhere in a game. I don't care if I'm a guy that gets killed-

[laughs]

... right, right away or what it is. I want... I, I just found out, uh, yesterday, uh, I don't know if you're familiar with the comedian Adam Ray.

Yeah.

He is the voice of Slimer in the all-female Ghostbusters.

Oh.

I, I, [laughs] I didn't know that-

I mean [laughs]

... until he said it on a podcast short that popped up on my feed, and then I Google searched it, and yeah, sure enough, he is Slimer. [laughs]

You didn't recognize it because nobody watched that movie. [laughs]

[laughs] [upbeat music] Well, it's the noon hour of Madness and Mayhem. I am Peaches.

And I'm FJ.

And for those that are unaware, FJ is a huge fan of, I would say, early 2000s, uh, emo.

Y- yeah, yeah. I'll go with that.

You're, you're, you're a big fan of, like, Thursday, uh-

Ooh, I love Thursday

... do, you like Taking Back Sunday?

I, I used to. Uh, th- they've kinda-

Fallen off

... th- they've lost me now.

Yeah, yeah.

It's mostly just their, their singer. He, uh, he, he just doesn't look and sound as good as he used to.

And, and you're not the only one saying that. There's been tons of people online.

I, I think it's kind of the whole community of everybody on the planet thinking that.

Right. Well, Axl Rose has fallen off. Uh, I, I think it happens when you, uh-

He is like the Axl Rose of the emo world. Wow.

[laughs] There you go.

Great connection.

Post that on Reddit. See what happens.

Nope. [laughs]

[laughs] Well, somebody posted... This, this, this popped up on my feed for some reason. I'm not even a part of this community, the, uh, A Day to Remember subreddit.

Oh, well, look at me.

I knew.

Look at me.

Mm-hmm. I, I know, I know you're a big fan. I saw the sweater, and I was like, "I gotta bring this up," because somebody asked this question, and they're getting insulted in the comments. Um, it says here, "My fiance and I are wanting this to be our first dance song at our wedding."

[laughs]

"They're talking about if it means a lot to you.

He travels a lot for work, so it's been our song for a long time. I know we're using it, uh, but my brother thinks it's a breakup song [laughs] and not the right vibe. Still not changing it, LOL. But now I'm curious, do you guys think it's a love song or a breakup song or both?" [laughs]

You know,

I, I say if you like the song, go with it. I, I'm not a hater on it.

Uh, there's a lot of people in the comments going, "Dude, it's a breakup song. There's no subtlety about it." It's definitely-

It, it's definitely a breakup song, but if you wanna play it at your wedding and foreshadow your future-

Uh [scoffs]

... go for it.

Is it bad luck to do something like that?

They're gonna find out, aren't they?

Because I know there's a lot of people that do similar thi- similar dances, uh, similar... They, they share the, like a s- they share a song together, and it's, like, Hinder, Lips of an Angel.

[laughs]

And that s- that song's about cheating. [laughs] And so-

Yeah. [laughs]

And I think, uh, the Pina Colada song is also about cheating. Now he's bored of his wife, and he wants to s- he wants something new, and he saw an ad in the newspaper.

I mean, most of the good songs are not about the best things in the world.

Well, I know there's that Buckcherry song. There was a Tosh.0 clip back in the day where the bride walked down the aisle to Buckcherry Crazy bleep and, uh-

Oh, yeah. That, that, that's a great one

... [laughs] What would be, what would be your entrance song for your wedding, Jeff?

Enter Sandman.

There you go.

Just because I feel like it would look really cool.

It's gonna be like the West Virginia football team coming out. [laughs]

Yeah.

Everyone's jumping.

Yep.

[laughs] Jumping along, hyping up, or getting hyped up, and the next thing you know, you're coming down the middle, running across the whole field. [laughs]

I'm gonna have Metallica playing behind me, though, like-

You have to.

Yeah.

Streamers, everything.

Might as well do it on their stage.

Get pyro. [laughs]

Th- yeah. There's gotta be explosions.

What, what if you get married at a Metallica concert? What if you're in the snake pit? [laughs]

If I'm getting married, that's the only way it's happening now.

With the future Mrs. FJ. [laughs]

Yeah, it's gotta be at a Metallica show during Enter Sandman.

You gotta do it fairly soon 'cause I feel like Metallica might be done kinda sooner rather than later.

Well, ladies, get ready 'cause you better come and find me soon.

Well, you have the connections now. I mean, we're pretty close with, uh, Metallica's record rep, so-

We're gonna make it happen

... all, all you need is the bride to be. [laughs]

Yep. [upbeat music]

Wrapping up the noon hour of Madness and Mayhem, I am Peaches.

And I'm FJ.

Uh, you like to fish, don't you?

Yeah. I'm from Idaho.

How often do you, do you go out there and-

Like once every five years.

Now, do you catch and release or...?

If I'm gonna catch the fish, I'm gonna eat it.

Th- thank you. I was, I was gonna say catch and release seems like the dumbest thing ever.

I, I, I know a lot of people that do it, but it's because they probably can't eat that many fish. Like, they, they fish a lot.

That's a them problem.

That is a them problem.

Well, I also think if you catch a lot of fish and you, uh, ruin the lake, it, you, you couldJust ruin everything for everybody, right?

That's, that, I mean, a little bit.

Well, I just pulled up this article here. This lake in Arizona has closed after all the fish have died. [laughs]

That doesn't sound good.

One of the largest lakes in Arizona has closed until further notice. Drought conditions and water released from the, from the, from the darn. I'll, I'll say from the dam.

Okay. [laughs]

Le- led to the deaths of all the fish. The fish carcasses pose health and safety risks to people who enter the water or try to fish. Do they just find them all floating there at the surface?

Yeah.

And went, "Hmm, something's wrong here."

I mean, that, that, that would be a terrible sight.

Just to see all these dead fish lying around?

Oh, yeah.

I mean, w- it ... Would pe- could people, like, I don't know, grab the fish, then still eat it? Or is that just kinda ...

I mean, i- if it was really fresh, you probably could, but if it's been sitting there for more than a few hours, I wouldn't do it.

Uh, s- so the, uh, the, it's like a span of hours that you can't ...

Yeah, if even that. Like, if it's a hot day out and it's floating on the top of the water, I wouldn't touch it.

Oh, 'cause you have to put it in ... Like, once you catch it, you have to put it in its own-

Oh, yeah. You wanna keep that thing cool

... like in its, in like a cooler, right?

Yeah.

Yeah. Yeah, my parents used to ... M- my whole family is anti-hunting, anti-fishing. Like, we're, w- like, we just don't, we never did that growing up. And my, my parents would often, we would go to, they would take us to, uh, Big Bear Lake.

Yeah.

And we would go right by the, uh, the, the fish butchering station or whatever.

[laughs]

The fish gutting station. And my parents would be, "Ew, ew," and they'd plug their nose and be all dramatic about it.

That, that ... They wouldn't like it out here that much?

No, they wouldn't. And that's why they, my, my, my dad and my sister have only visited ... Well, my dad's been out here twice. To help me-

I could take them to some really awesome places here

... to help me, to help me move out here once. My d- my dad helped me move out here, then my dad and my sister came in October of '22. No, '23. And they haven't been out, back out here since.

Oh, they're missing out on some great things.

That's, you're telling me. I would love to take them to Yellowstone, show them, uh, you know, your, your fishing spots. 'Cause who, they're not gonna come back out here and take over your fishing spot.

It's true.

And they're also not gonna kill all the fish in the lake like what happened in Arizona, but ...

[laughs] I'd hope not. [upbeat music]
