I want to read the word this evening and I want us to open our Bibles to Acts
chapter 19. And we're gonna read from verse 11 and we're gonna read forward.
Is it okay if we read the Bible today? Is that fine? Acts chapter 19 verses 11 and
we're gonna read a couple of verses in. You guys ready? The Word of God says, "God
God did extraordinary miracles through Paul.
So that even the handkerchiefs and aprons that had touched him were taken to the sick.
And their illnesses were cured and the evil spirits left them.
Some Jews who went around driving out evil spirits tried to invoke the name of the Lord
Jesus over those who were demon possessed.
They would say, "In the name of Jesus, whom Paul preaches, I command you to come out."
Seven sons of Sceva, a Jewish chief priest, were doing this.
One day the evil spirit answered them, "Jesus, I know.
And Paul, I know about.
But who are you?"
I want you to ask the person beside you, who are you?
Verse 16, "Then the man who had the evil spirit jumped on them and overpowered them all.
He gave them such a beating that they ran out of the house naked and bleeding."
A bit graphic, but hey, that's the Word of God for you.
When this became known to the Jews and the Greeks living in Ephesus, they were all seized
with fear and the name of the Lord Jesus was held in high honor.
Many of those who believe now came and openly confessed what they had done.
And a number who had practiced sorcery brought their scrolls together and burned them publicly.
And when they calculated the value of the scrolls, the total came to 50,000 drachmas,
which is equivalent to several million dollars.
In this way the word of the Lord spread widely and grew in power.
I want to show a couple of images, but before that I want you to share, I want to share
this evening the topic or the theme that I want to talk about.
And the question that I have for you today is, are you real?
Are you counterfeit?
Are you real or are you counterfeit?
Actually let's go through an exercise.

Actually one of these sandals is the real deal and the other one is fake.

The one on top is real and the one on the bottom is counterfeit.
And you know how much is the value of the real one? You know how much is the value of the counterfeit?
$712 and the other one is 2668.
I am going to buy the 2668 because that is what my bank account can talk when I ask them
how much I have. Let me go to the next one. Who likes gold chains here? I can see you guys.
One of these gold chains is the real deal and the other one is counterfeit. Which one
is real and which one is counterfeit? Let's go and let's check it out. The one to the
left is counterfeit and the one to the right is real. Actually, the one to the left is
$8.99. And the one to the right is $20,999. And they're saving you a dollar so you can
save money. Let's go to the next one. Actually, for all my women here, you know, that love
Gucci, I went to Thailand a couple of years ago and I decided to buy my wife a Gucci bag.
you know that's how I love her so much that I want to give her something so you
know she could remember but guess which one that I buy let's go to the next one
the one to the left is the real one and the one to the right is the counterfeit
guess which one I bought man you guys don't believe in me next slide I bought
the $4 one because you know that's the one that I could buy not that you know
but that's what my bank account could talk about that day but what am I trying
to say with this is that one of them is original and the other one is fake one
comes from a legitimate source and the other one is an imitation of the original
source. One has substance and the other one is only a copy of that substance
because when it's under pressure, the real one comes out winning and the fake
one cracks. One can last a lifetime but the other one, when seasons go bad or
whenever you you're not able to take care of it, it breaks. It ruins himself.
Actually my question that I also have to you is what is the cost of your calling?
Everybody here has a calling but there is a price that we have to pay when we
follow Jesus. Let me tell you another thing. Some of us today are living a
counterfeit faith that seems to follow Jesus on the outside but the inside
there's nothing to follow Jesus about. Many of us today we want we're in this
place today and I'm not saying this to diminish anybody here but the reality is
the following. God is calling us to a faith that is gonna cost you something.
Actually that's not a preaching that we talk about today.
A lot of many preach.
I'm not saying that that's the ones here.
I'm not saying it anywhere.
I'm not pointing.
But there's a lot of things that we hear today to make me feel good.
But the reality is that when we encounter the demons in our time, only the real ones
are the ones that are going to overcome.
Only the ones that have encountered the Holy Spirit are the ones that are going to defeat
the enemy when they are attacking against you.
We are here in this context.
The story starts in Ephesus.
Why Ephesus?
It's a city of influence, major trade.
There's the biggest temple.
There's the biggest place where sorcery is at.
Why did Paul go there?
Because he needed to confront the reality of his time.
Let me tell you something.
God's calling has to confront the reality of your generation.
calling has to confront the reality of your school. God's calling has to
confront the reality of your family. God's calling in your life has to
confront and shake us to the core. So we know that we are in the ways that
God is calling us. Actually Pauline is his third missionary trip. He is doing
unusual miracles. Actually they were using handkerchief and aprons and they
They would touch them and they would be healed.
But to further expose this, we got seven sons of Skiba that come out.
And they see, you know what?
I want what Paul has.
I want what he has.
He actually is doing things that I want to do.
He's doing things he's living a life that I want.
How many of us today, especially on social media, we see things and we say, man, I wish
I had that.
I wish I had what he has.
I, when we live comparing ourselves
to other people's highlight reels
when we are living in a reality,
we feel that if I don't do what he's doing, I'm missing out.
I feel that if I'm not doing what he is,
what he's doing, I'm losing my time here.
But one of the things that we see
is that they would do this sorcery.
They would actually go out and try to expel demons.
But when they faced this demon,
when they faced this demon that was in front of them,
they said, "In the name
of the God that Paul preaches,
in the name of the God that Paul is living out."
And they didn't say, "In the name of Jesus,
name that I encountered in my life. This is the thing young people today, one of
the things that we are seeing here is that they are trying to live a borrowed
faith. They are trying to live a faith that isn't theirs. I'm telling you
something, you cannot live off of a borrowed faith. You cannot live out of, I
I love my grandmother, I love my mother, and I love the elders of the church.
But there comes a point in my life that when I face my realities, it has to be what God
has spoken to my life.
It has to be what God has encountered in my life.
When I see God and encounter His presence, I can say, "Lord, the same God I encountered
is going to take me out of this desert."
They would use incantations.
They use the name of Solomon.
They use the name.
rituals and they said the name that Paul preaches what happens is some of us
today admire other realities and admire other ministries and I'm not problem
that's not a problem to do but the reality is the following when you
imitate you limit what God can do in your life when you imitate you limit the
I remember when I used to grow up, I wanted to be like the
friends that had curly -- I have curly hair but I had friends that
had other type of hair and they would do this styles that they
were going through.
And I wanted to imitate them.
I wanted to be like them.
Because that was what it was in style at that time.
I wanted to buy the shoes they bought.
I wanted to do the things that they do.
Why?
Because I didn't want to feel left out.
But I realized something that God created me the way He created me to use me the way
that I've been created for His glory.
God created me in a way so I could say God is going to be glorified in Hoshua's life.
God is going to be glorified in His life.
Notice the distance.
They didn't say, "My Lord."
They didn't say the one that called me.
Not the one that encountered me.
No.
They said the one that Paul serves.
The one that I could see from a distance.
And you know what?
Demons tremble at the name of Jesus.
You know what puts the enemy to run?
He sees you standing up against temptation and saying, "This is not going to overtake
my life.
This addiction is not going to overtake my mind.
Anxiety is not going to take my life.
Depression is not going to take my life because I am a son of God.
I am a daughter of God.
I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
I am not the tail.
I am the head."
The question is, who are you?
I think many of us live many times in a borrowed faith.
Actually, I work in this organization besides the
responsibilities I have as a pastor and also as a youth
director.
I serve this organization called One Hope.
Actually, I want to show a slide here.
On Gen Alpha, they just made a research here.
On Gen Alpha where they are asking and Gen Alpha is saying,
Look, I believe in a higher power but not a personal God.
The Bible has value but it's not the word of God.
And not only that, when we talk about spiritualism, because you know there's a lot of people that
are spiritual but it's not the Holy Spirit.
We live in a spiritual world.
That doesn't mean that it's the Holy Spirit operating.
Actually what we see following is that Jen Alpha is studying and living with alternative
spiritual practices.
Actually if you see this slide, you believe in astrology, manifesting, crystal healing,
carot cards, Ouija boards.
And probably some of you have dabbled in this.
You know, it was funny.
It's not funny, but this happened a couple of years ago
when I was planting.
Because I'm a church plant, I live in Fort Lauderdale and I
remember we were in a coffee shop and one day this young
lady comes to me and she says, pastor, let me tell you
something.
I love your vibes.
You preach with so much energy.
You know what, pastor, I love -- you are a farming.
She didn't say that.
I'm just trying to relate with you guys.
You know what, pastor, I love the vibes and how you preach.
I remember she came and she was like, but pastor, let me tell
you -- I started interacting with her a lot more.
Pastor, let me tell you something.
I have some rocks that are from the Himalayas.
And I got some crystals in my bed and I have some candles that I light up before I sleep.
Because I've talked to this spirit and the spirit tells me that I'm able to sleep better
when I invoke them.
And let me tell you something, sometimes we believe that the demonic world is not true
but it is very true in our life.
You have to know that when we live in times that are dangerous in that sense.
I remember that she started talking there and she said, "Pastor, I got some chakras."
And pastor, I have all these things that try to put me to sleep, but pastor, I cannot sleep.
Pastor, when I started doing things, I got more anxiety.
Pastor, one thing that I see is that I have no peace, pastor.
I'm like, you know what?
Let's pray about it.
next week take those things out of your room. She comes back next week. Pastor I
couldn't take it away pastor. I'm like let me tell you something. If you want to
experiment God you have those little pebbles and those little rocks but I have
the rock of salvation called Jesus Christ. But I have the foundation of your life
that is called Jesus Christ. You don't need chakras. You don't need any demonic
forces. You need the power of God entering your life and wrecking your life.
I remember the next week she came. Pastor, I slept like a baby. You know why? Because when you call
the presence of God, his real peace will enter your life. Because if you know Jesus, you will
know peace. But if there's no Jesus, there is no peace. So I'd rather know Jesus. So that true
peace live in me so I could sleep like a baby. Some of you guys need to sleep at night. Some
The night is keeping you awake because you are on your phone
all night.
And you are seeing things that you are not supposed to see at
night.
And God is saying, you need rest.
You need to listen to my mind.
You need to listen to my heart.
But how do we do it?
If we don't read our Bibles.
You know there are some foundational things that will
never change regardless of the generations.
Actually let me show you something.
This is my Bible.
Actually, this Bible was given to me 20 years ago when I was in the seventh grade.
I will tell you something.
I have lived -- I'm not that old.
I heard today, I'm a big bro.
I'm a big bro.
I think I'm a big bro.
I want to believe I'm a big bro.
But you guys determined that.
I've seen that when you read the Word of God it truly gives you
peace. You know what? There are people today that feel that there
is no hope for your life. But the Word of God says, how can a
young man keep his way? If it's not by guarding his word in his
heart. Actually the psalmist said, in my heart I have
guarded your word so I may not sin against you. Actually the
The word of God says, when you don't know what to do, when you have no idea where you
go, your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.
When I feel I have nothing to offer, the word of God is like that.
The word of God is active.
The word of God is sharper than a double-edged sword which penetrates and it splits the spirit
and the soul.
It goes to the bone of the marrow and it says, I know the desires and the thoughts of your
heart. But be real with me. How much time do we read the word of God? How much time
do we spend in His presence? No wonder when temptation comes and your girlfriend
is trying to pressure you to sleep and your boyfriend wants to sleep. You fall.
No wonder when you feel stressed out you gotta smoke some weed so you can feel
peace. No wonder that's why we feel God. God where are you when He is saying I am
right here. I am here waiting for He talk to you. Some of you guys I'm telling you
the reason we have no power is because we are trying to fight battles without
the right weapons. We are trying to fight battles with the with the flesh. We are
You are trying to fight battles that God didn't intend for you to fight alone.
I love Pastor Lindsay today.
He was speaking that some of us today we are ready to take the devil out of the store.
Let's get out of here.
But you need the spirit of God to baptize you.
You need the spirit of God to empower your heart.
You need the spirit of God to give you the anointing so you
can fight those demons.
Because true Winterfest doesn't -- we are not in true Winterfest.
You know when Winterfest starts?
When you go back home.
That's when Winterfest starts.
That's when you go back to school.
When you are in your lunchroom.
See, it's easy to worship God in this setting.
I don't want to minimize your experience.
But a different thing is when you are on Monday in the lunchroom and people are starting to
joke and you're starting to laugh to those jokes.
Another thing is when I'm in my lunchtime at school and I got to worship and lift up
my hands, I have to say, "Lord, I have to be light in the midst of the darkness.
You cannot be light in the midst of the light.
That does not work."
That's why when Jesus was speaking and Jesus was before he went to his ministry.
The word of God says in Luke chapter 4, 18, "The spirit of the Lord is upon me because
he has anointed me to proclaim the good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim freedom to the prisoners,
recovery of sight for the blind,
and to set the oppressed free
and to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor.
Some of us want the anointing of God,
but we're not willing to pay the price.
Some of them want victory, but we don't want battles.
We want the cross, but we want crowns,
but we don't want to go through the cross.
We want God to use me, God.
I want the anointing that my friend has,
You know what? Your friend prays. Your friend wakes up and is in the shame of the gospel.
You want power against the enemy? You need to recharge in the spirit. You need to go in the
secret room when the lights turn out, when you're by yourself, when you're by yourself and God.
So that when you go on Monday and somebody sees you, you know what? She looks different.
There's something different about her. She's not laughing the same jokes that she used to laugh.
There's something different actually. Moses went whenever he went to the Mount Sinai when he came
down the Word of God says that the glory was so inundated in his heart and his mind that nobody
could see his face. The glory of God has to inundate your heart so much that when they see you they say
something's different about her. Something's different about him. There is
something that she has that I want. There is something that she has that I need.
Some of us want the anointing of God, but we're living a faith that is not rooted
in the Word. It's rooted in emotions. If you came here to feel some chills and
and cry a little bit but you go back to the same thing with zero power I am
sorry you just cried and fell a little goosebumps don't worry guys I'll show
this later I'm gonna talk about right now some of us want God to use us want
God to speak to our life. But the cost of the power is surrender. The cost of the
power is obedience. When you say yes to God, He will never let you down. When you
say yes to God, I don't care how difficult it is. I don't care how big the
battle is. God is by my side and if God is with me who can be against me and if
the Spirit of God is with me the Word of God says that demons tremble when they
hear his voice. The enemy has to flee when the Spirit of God enters my life.
When they say that young man is full of the Spirit of God. We need to be clear. We
Is that an emotional search? Is that about how loud I preach? Is that about how talented I am?
Talent can showcase how good you are, but the anointing makes people free.
Actually, talent can impress.
It can draw a crowd. It can showcase skill.
But anointing breaks the chains the anointing drives out demons the anointed destroys the yoke the anointed relief the captive
I don't know about you, but I want to be an anointed of God. I don't want to just be a talented for God
I want to have the Spirit of God
So when people come and say hoswe has been with the presence of God, he knows what God is
You want to see chains breaking your family seek the anointing of Christ seek the Spirit of God
You want to see chains breaking your school.
Go into the secret place and find him when the noise goes out.
You want to see the presence of God in your life.
You have to be willing to pay your price.
I'm sorry young people.
You cannot serve two masters and have the blessing of God.
God cannot bless the person you pretend to be.
I cannot bless the person you want to be, but you're living something else.
If you want God to bless you, you have to say, "Lord, I'm taking my mask out."
Some of you guys' pornography has consumed your mind, has consumed your heart.
How can you listen to God's voice if you're feeding, you're feeding, you're feeding, you're
flesh. How can I listen to God's voice? When I'm feeding my algorithm the things
that they want to feed me, some of you guys' algorithm is your God. The algorithm
is your God. And God is saying you are not defined by your algorithm. You are not
defined by your sin. You are hoswe. You are Charles. You are Mary. You are my
daughter. You are my son. But in order to live that life, live in that freedom, you
to seek Him genuinely.
God, break the chains of my life, but we like being strapped in the same chains.
God, help me in my weakness.
But God's saying, leave your girlfriend. She's not helping you out.
Leave your boyfriend. He's not helping you out.
But I love him.
So all of a sudden we become evangelists when we start dating people that aren't Christian.
I'm going to save him.
You are not going to save him.
Pastor he has a good heart.
Yeah, but his spirit is a wreck.
Pastor I know he is going to be a good man.
He is probably a good man but he is not a good man for you.
You say amen.
I heard the amens.
I saw some pastor saying, I saw you, don't worry.
It is the anointing that is going to set you free.
It is the Spirit of God that when you leave this place, you're going to say,
Bevel, you can attack me how much you want, but I've been empowered by the Spirit of God.
I have been empowered by the presence of God.
I have been emboldened by his presence so that's why you can
come to me and not like the sons of Sceva.
Because imitation will make you weak in the spirit.
Imitation is going to make you weak because God didn't create
you in that way.
Actually one of the things that I -- I could attest this and I
talk about my pastoral experience.
Because it's what I'm living currently.
We were in a prayer room and I remember Maya, she told me,
pastor, I'm struggling with weed and addiction, pastor.
Pastor, that's only the only way I could be free.
I need to be free from this.
The only way I can feel better, pastor.
And when we were praying, we started
to say, in the name of Jesus, in the name that
is above all name, every addiction has to bow down.
Every weird addiction has to go down.
Any sense of self-worth has to leave.
all of a sudden Maya, she starts crying.
She starts weeping.
And all of a sudden, she goes and she brings a jar this big
of five pounds of weed.
She was ready to smoke it out.
And she was ready to get high and forget about herself.
But there was something that happened
when she started to invoke Jesus. See this is the thing guys. When you encounter Jesus your life can
never be the same. When you encounter Jesus what had what what kept you bound has to be free. All of
a sudden she gets that jar, she goes to the bathroom and she pours it out. She let that go.
You know why? Because 2nd Corinthians chapter 10 says, "For we live in the world, but we do not wage war otherwise the world does.
For the weapons that we fight are not weapons of this world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds."
Let me tell you something. You want to see God move? You have to bring the Spirit of God.
You have to fight with the sword of the spirit, Lord.
You can attack my family, but you cannot attack my soul.
You can attack my mind, but you're not gonna attack my heart
because from my heart the word is gonna flow out.
And since that day, Maya, I'm not saying it's been easy
for her, but she's persevering.
She's moving forward.
That's why following Christ is not about feelings.
Feelings cannot be your God.
Feelings cannot be your master.
We need young people of conviction in this place.
You know what?
I'm going to be real with you.
We have to stop being fake and be real with God.
Let me tell you something.
No, no, no.
Let me be clear.
We cannot put a story on a Sunday morning that we're worshiping God and
then putting explicit music in the next story in the afternoon. Don't tell me that.
Let me tell you something. We cannot say God help me and then we're manifesting
and we're bringing crystals. Let me tell you something. Either God or the devil is
gonna be in your life. You have to choose. Actually let me tell you another thing.
Let me tell you another thing.
When the devil wants to fight against God, he always loses.
When the devil wants to fight and wants to overcome God, let me
tell you another thing.
Oh, man.
It was a little Latino.
You know how it is.
Jesus, before he was anointed, he was in the desert.
When he's in the desert.
The enemy, the tempter said, if you are the Son of God, the enemy is going to attack your
identity in Christ always.
That is why the question I ask you, who are you?
The demon said to the Son of Skiba, I know Jesus, I know Paul, but who are you?
When you have your identity in Christ, when you have been
transformed by his presence, you know who you are in him.
Because the Holy Spirit produces the fire for freedom in your
life.
If I could ask the piano to come up fourth.
Verse 17, Acts chapter 19.
When this became known to the Jews, that the devil, you know,
that demon basically stripped them naked and he went running away.
They were all seized with fear. And the name of the Lord Jesus was held in high honor.
Many of those who believe now came and openly confessed what they had done.
When the spirit of God enters your life, true revival starts with repentance.
Come on, repeat that one more time. You want to see revival in your life? You have to repent.
You have to bring those things to God. You have to bring those things to God.
When people saw how they were weak against the enemy, they were scared.
The city had a holy fear. The word prevailed.
It was real anointing that Paul had. You know what? Because Paul, even in prison, was worshiping God.
I was a youth pastor several years ago.
I don't know if you guys could help me.

And I was a youth pastor in Azalea Garden Church of God, Virginia Beach.

You know, several years ago I was a youth pastor and I brought youth to this winter fest.
And I was in that seat right there.
I want you to see it.
When God wrecked my life forever.
You have to understand one thing.
Before coming to Virginia Beach I had never -- I had preached in
English but I didn't preach so much.
And I felt almost unworthy.
Had no way to communicate well the word of God.
That's what a miracle that I'm here.
Honestly it's a miracle.
Actually, I wasn't even supposed to be born.
My mom shouldn't have had kids.
And all of a sudden I can tell you that I'm here.
The enemy want to take my life many times.
But God said no.
And I was in that place.
That's good, my man. I love that you're there.
And I remember the preaching that night or that morning was,
you have a voice. I think it was Pastor Kevin Mcglamory.
And right there, and I think we have an image, I think the final image there.
Because I want you guys to see it. I took a picture.
From there up to here.
and God spoke so clearly to my life that I could say I heard from God.
The plans that he had for me, that's why you pastors, you have to have the anointing of God
to serve this generation. You need to listen to God because the word that God is depositing in your
life can only be heard when you sense and you feel and you seek Him because the generation needs you.
Use pastors. I know what it is to be right there and feel that there's nobody listening.
That seat represents me and my own belief.
And I remember right after that one of my youth or at that time he arrived a couple of times.
He went to Juve in Virginia Beach juvenile detention center.
He called me and said, "Hoswe, you're the only person I have and I'm in a cell right now
And I need somebody in my life for six months straight.
Every Thursday night at 8 p.m. I had discipleship with Josh.
Every Thursday night.
You don't have to clap for that.
And in his prison, his condition, when he started reading the word and saying, "Pastor, I never
felt love because my mom abandoned me.
My dad left me.
And now I'm in trouble and I'm in this cell.
But I can tell you something, Pastor.
Thank you.
I can tell you something. I
encountered God. And even though
I'm in bars, my spirit is free.
Even though I'm in this cell, my
life is set free. You know why?
Because he encountered Christ.
I'm going to call my helpers if
they could come here and I'm

I believe that the Spirit of God is gonna touch your life.
But following Christ has a cost.
Some of you guys here today came with shame.
Some of you guys today came with addictions.
with unworthiness, drug addictions, distractions, pride, laziness, astrology, anxiety, pornography.
Some of you guys came this way today. The Word of God says that when they saw what had happened,
something in them could not stay quiet enough with entertaining things that will never
I'm here to tell you that if father and mother abandon me, God will pick you up.
God will take care of you.
God will have your back.
Some of you guys today are struggling with things that are keeping you captive.
But I believe in the name that is above all name.
That at the name of Jesus, every knee shall bow in heaven, on earth, and under the earth,
and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.
I want you to stand up.
Some of you guys see this and you're saying that's me.
Laziness has taken over your life.
But something is going to happen today.
Something has to break.
I love today's preaching in the morning.
God needs to break you so you can shine.
But God wants you to be real even when the lights go out.
Listen to me.
Everybody with your eyes closed.
We're going to worship.
We glorify His name.
But it is your decision to take steps clearly to the presence of God.
Grandma's prayer can help you for a bit, but you need to stand up.
that youth pastor can help me,
but that porn addiction is your battle.
Some of you, when other people to pick you up,
but God is saying, I am the one that picks you up.
I am the one that is seated on the throne.
If there's something here,
I want you to look at me now.
If there's something here that you say, that's me.
You don't need to shout it out unless you want to.
That's how you and God, but I'm gonna tell you something.
In the altar, things have to die.
In the altar, look at me, look at me, look at me, look at me.
Sometimes we take the altar like a moment just to go up
and hang out with my friends.
I'd rather be uncomfortably moved by God than constantly
tendered by the enemy.

see in revelations John sees a sign or a vision in Patmos and what we see is the
24 elders crying holy holy holy I believe there's a generation that wants
to say holy holy holy and I want you to lift up your voice because we're gonna
do something this evening but I want you to raise up your voice.
