Amelia Hruby:

Welcome to Off the Grid, a podcast for small business owners who want to leave social media without losing all their clients.

Melissa Kaitlyn Carter:

Let's go off the grid. Okay. Let's go

Amelia Hruby:

Welcome to 2025, and welcome back to Off the Grid. I'm your host, Emilia Ruby. I am the founder of Softer Sounds Podcast Studio. And on this show, I share stories, strategies, and experiments for starting and running a successful, sustainable business with no or minimal social media presence. Today, we are kicking off season 5 of the podcast, and this season is going to be unlike any other season of off the grid because for season 5, I will be sharing 5 episodes in 5 days.

Amelia Hruby:

I thought this would be fun, and, also, I could not resist this little, like, matchy matchy number situation of season 5, 5 episodes, 5 days 2025. It just felt a little too scrumptious to pass up. So this week on the pod feed, you can expect a daily episode, and all of these episodes are going to be around the theme, your 2025 marketing toolkit. If you are sharing your work online and you want it to travel farther and maybe make some money without social media, this podcast is for you. And these season 5 episodes are going to share my perspectives on some of the best ways to share your work and make money online without social media this year.

Amelia Hruby:

Because I don't know about you, but 2024 was a pretty hard year in business. And the question I kept getting was, Amelia, what is working right now? And I spent most of 2024 avoiding that question. Instead, I did a lot of interview episodes just unpacking what wasn't working in our businesses and our creative practices last year and talking about some ways to kind of hold ourselves through that experience. But this year, I am coming out the gate with 3 episodes to share the things that I think are working in 2025, and that I hope will be marketing practices and strategies that can work for us not only this year, but also in the longer term.

Amelia Hruby:

So over the next 3 days, I have some fantastic episodes coming up for you. The first is an interview that I did with Ali Grumert all about email marketing. And this episode is fantastic because I asked Allie a lot of questions for beginners, and then I asked her a lot of my own questions about email marketing. So whether you are just setting up your email list for your business or you have been doing email marketing for years now and you're like, but how do I make this a little bit better? There is advice and information in this episode for you no matter what stage you're at with email.

Amelia Hruby:

So my conversation with Aly comes out tomorrow. You are not gonna wanna miss it. It truly set me up for my entire 2025 email plan, and I'm so grateful for everything that she shared on the show. Then coming up on Wednesday, we will be hearing from my dear friend, collaborator, business partner, Taylor Elise Morrison, all about podcast guesting. I think that being a guest on a podcast is one of the best ways to share your work in the year ahead and beyond.

Amelia Hruby:

Taylor has grown her business through podcast guesting. My business has grown through podcast guesting, for sure. And while I think that being a guest on a podcast is a great way to grow your business, I also think that a lot of pitches are bad. And I think that all of us have room to grow in how we talk about our work and how we reach out to other people to ask them to be in conversation with us around it. So in that episode, Taylor and I are going to offer some guidance on how to find podcasts that you'd like to be a guest on, how to pitch your work, and, also, how to determine if podcast guesting is even the right fit strategy for you because it's not for everyone.

Amelia Hruby:

And sometimes I see people invest a lot of money in, like, hiring pitch consultants or people to pitch for them when I don't think they're quite ready yet. So Taylor and I unpack all of that in Wednesday's episode. And then on Thursday, I am resharing one of the most popular episodes of the podcast, which is my conversation with Michelle Warner, all about relationship marketing. I think the best way to grow a business, at least a business that is creator driven, where artists are putting their work in the world or service driven, where service providers are offering support for other people and businesses, I think the best way to grow businesses like that is through relationships. And I love Michelle Warner's practical and tactical approach to relationship marketing.

Amelia Hruby:

So on Thursday, I will be resharing our conversation with a brand new introduction where I'm gonna talk a little bit about how relationships transformed my business in 2024. And I'm gonna share a few new cool communities and offerings that I've been seeing pop up where folks are creating spaces for small business owners to be in relationship and, hopefully, grow their business as a result of that. So that's coming up on Thursday. And then on Friday, in the 5th and final episode of season 5 of off the grid, I will be sharing a conversation with Amanda Laird about 2025 marketing trends. Amanda is the founder of Slow and Steady Studio, and she was on the podcast in early 2024.

Amelia Hruby:

So I'm thrilled to have her back to talk about this email she wrote at the end of last year where she highlighted a few business practices and things that she was seeing that she thought were really gonna take off in 2025. And when I read the email, I was immediately like, yes, yes, yes. I agree with all of this. Will you please come on the pod to talk about it? So come on the pod, she shall.

Amelia Hruby:

Okay. So that is what is coming up this week, my friends. Season 5 of Off the Grid will be 5 episodes in 5 days, and we will wrap it all up on Friday. If you are perhaps wondering to yourself, is this just a gimmick, or is there another reason Amelia is doing this funny 555-555 thing? The answer is both.

Amelia Hruby:

I just like the synchronicity of all of the numbers, But the real reason that I'm doing this is that I am in the process of writing my next book, which is going to be called Your Attention is Sacred. It is my critique of the attention economy, my understanding of creative energy, and also a lot about algorithms. And the truth is that I need more time and space to write it, so I cannot be producing high quality weekly episodes of the show and writing the book at the same time. So I thought that I would put out this 2025 marketing toolkit season to set all of us up for the year, and then I'm gonna go dark for the rest of January and all of February to write the book and put it all together. And then my current plan is that Off the Grid will come back for season 6 in March, and the book will come out in April, hopefully, if I can really get it together.

Amelia Hruby:

So that is a little look ahead into the future of Off the Grid. But before I sign off for today, I have one more thing that I wanna share with you, which is that if listening to this week's episodes makes you feel like, oh, I could use a little more community as I move through 2025 in my business, or I could use a few more classes and workshops and supportive co working sessions to bring some of these ideas to life, or maybe even I could use the opportunity for some free one on one time with Amelia to figure all of this out. If any of those thoughts occur to you as you're listening this week, I would love to invite you to join us in the interweb this year. So the interweb is our annual membership for creatives, artists, small business owners, freelancers, and entrepreneurs who want support connecting with their values, sharing their work, and making some money without social media. When you join the interweb, you get access to monthly live events with me and a whole library of on demand courses taught by me and biz friends across the Internet, many of whom have been guests on this show.

Amelia Hruby:

We have an amazing slate of events coming up in 2025. Next Monday, January 13th, we're hosting a virtual business retreat so you can set some intentions for your work in the year ahead. Then we have a members only social call on Valentine's Day for you to meet some new biz friends and make fun strategic connections this winter. In March, I will be teaching a never before seen or heard class that members are currently voting on, so you get a say in what I prepare and create for you. And in April, we are having a money rituals retreat where I will be joined by financial therapist Rachel Duncan to really dive into our money work from both a, like, personal, emotional, spiritual lens and also a, like, practical financial lens before we get into tax season.

Amelia Hruby:

So all of that is happening just in the 1st 4 months of this year, and you can get access to all of those events and more for only a $150 when you join the interweb. So I would love to have you in our community this year. If you're interested, head to the show notes for the link to join the interweb. I am only opening the doors this week. So they are open right now and they will close again on Sunday, January 12th.

Amelia Hruby:

So if you wanna come in, now is the time. Head to the show notes, get the link, and join us. We have such a great community. There's, like, over a 120 members now, and I love every single one of them that I've had the chance to talk to. So I hope to count you among them soon.

Amelia Hruby:

And now I will stop talking about this. And thank you for tuning into season 5 of Off the Grid. Over the next 4 days, we have 4 amazing conversations coming up, and I cannot wait for you to hear them. All you gotta do is subscribe to the show and stay tuned to your pod feed to get all the goods. I hope that your year is off to a great start and that this show can be a part of that.

Amelia Hruby:

As always, thank you for being here. And until tomorrow, I will see you off the grid and in the interweb. Thanks for listening to Off the Grid. Don't forget to grab your free leaving social media toolkit at off the grid dot fun slash tool kit. This podcast is a Softer Sounds production.
