We're chatting about the people, places, events, and flavors that make Johnson City, Tennessee a lovely place to live. An interview show hosted by Colin Johnson.

It's a beautiful day in Johnson City. It's February. It's 65 degrees. It's bonkertown. I don't know where we're living. It feels like Florida. You're not here to talk about the weather. You want to meet our guest. I'm here with Christy Dunn from The Stretch Zone.
How are you doing today? I'm doing great. I'm loving this warm weather too. I am loving it, I'm loving it. All right, Johnson City Living Podcast, what do you love most about Johnson City? I would have to say lately, I love the, the restaurants that are around. Yeah, which ones are your favorites? I love a lot of the ones that are downtown.
I really enjoy the label, we like going to Wanshow and, um, I love Southern Craft like you just mentioned earlier. Uh huh. I know all those are owned by the same family. Same group, yep. They've got, they've got it down. They want, yeah. They know how to make my taste buds happy. Yeah, same. Raphael's doing a great job with those and, and they've got Southern Craft in Greenville now and I think, um, Stir Fry's still in Kingsport and They actually own Chateau Salet, which is the wedding venue in Bluff, where you're from.
Tell me where you guys like to eat in Bluffville. I like to eat at Giovanni's, and there's this little Asian restaurant there that is so good. It's called, uh, Pho 126, and it's in what used to be a 50's diner, so it's still decorated as a 50's diner, but they have, uh, Really good Asian food and I, I love Pad Thai and I've, I've gone, uh, I've tried about 12 different places around and they have my favorite Pad Thai.
Really? Look at that, that's a top secret little, uh, little nugget from the podcast for some people today. Yeah. Who would have thought? Yeah. Yeah. It's, it's like, it's a weird clash because it's a 50's diner, you expect them to have, Hamburgers and milkshakes and it's Asian food. That's awesome. Have you been to the Bluff City Diner?
Uh, not in a long time. I, um, somebody was telling me that it's, it's One of the best places to eat, too. Like they said, it's fantastic. Every time I drive by there, I'm like, I'm either in the morning, and I'm like, oh yeah, I need to come back there, or it's like an afternoon time, and they're closed, so I need to just make it an effort to go there for lunch.
There's another little place called Bondo to Burger in Blountville, and it used to be like a, an automotive shop, and they turned it into a restaurant, and it's, it's a, it's like a, just a, um, Um, Burgers and kind of traditional kind of diner. Not exactly my favorite kind of food to eat, but they're always busy, so they're really good.
Mitch, road trip time, baby. We're going to Bondo to Burger. That sounds delicious. That sounds delicious. Okay. Well, you didn't come on the podcast to talk about burgers and Bondo and all that kind of stuff. Tell me a little bit about the stretch zone. So, Stretch Zone, uh, is, we do what's called a Practitioner Assisted Stretching, which is, we're the only ones in our area who do this, but we, so when you come in, you lay on a table that's kind of, looks like a massage table, but it's got straps and belts, and uh, when you lay down, our trained practitioners, they will stretch you, so it's very passive.
for you and our practitioners do all the work and you get all the benefits. I love it. Do you have to wear a special stretch outfit or can you come in, come in what you're wearing? No, you can wear your normal clothes or we ask you to wear something comfortable. So, you know, ladies tend to wear a lot of leggings.
Sure. Anything that you could work out in, it would be appropriate. Um, and even clothes if they move. It's just, but you just have to have the ability to move. We do ask people to wear socks because, uh, we have to, we touch your feet just for hygiene purposes that, um, not, not everybody's feet are, I'm not a, if you want to touch your person, anyway, I'm like, I'll definitely wear socks.
So, yeah, yeah. And we keep socks there just in case people forget. Hey, I need some socks. Um, How often should you come there? Like, what's the typical? So, our clients come in one to three, most of the time they're either coming in once, twice, or up to three times a week. Yeah. I would think you need to come in more to keep Yeah.
If you stretch just one time a week, if you're not stretching at home, you know, you're not, you're going to see some benefits, but you know, you need to stretch consistently to get benefits. Just like you need to go to the gym more than once a week. You can't go once a week, once a month and expect to stay healthy.
Yeah. Yeah. So you probably send people home with homework, like you should be working on this and stretching this more. Yes. This was really tight today. Isolate that. Yeah. Yeah. That's cool. Yeah. I think it's a, It's really calling my wife's been there a couple of times and she liked it for sure. So I think it's cool.
Um, how did you choose? the stretch zone to open it up. Like were you tight and you were like I need to stretch somewhere and nowhere to be found. No, I was just really looking for business ideas and I came across it when I was searching like franchise opportunities and I immediately just knew in my gut that that's what I wanted to do because my husband and I were big advocates of we go to the chiropractor, we get massages at least semi regularly.
At the time I was doing yoga and it just It seemed to really fit with what we already think you should do to take care of your body. Yeah. No, I think it's, um, very helpful. And yeah, I'm a big chiropractic. One of my best friends is Richard Ballard at Ballard Time Chiropractic. He's great. Okay. Yeah. And we love massage.
Um, so yeah, I think it's, it's a perfect fit for that. Um, yeah, cause I'm, you want to stay healthy. You want to stay young as long as you can and mobility. It's huge, right? Yes. I mean, you're not moving. You're, you're dying, right? Yeah. Yeah. I think you said it. But if you're not spiraling up, you're spiraling down.
I heard a pastor, one of our pastors, John Foucher, he, uh, who's now over in North Carolina, but he said that he had a message one time that you're either spiraling up towards the Lord or you're spiraling down away from him. And so I think it's We don't stay, we don't stay the same in any area of life. We do not stay the same and, and we're sitting a lot more, I feel like, you know, we're not out gardening.
We're not out hunting. We're not out doing a lot of, um, physical labor. It's more It's almost like we're trying to get rid of that. And I think it's good for us to do physical labor. Yeah, most of our jobs aren't active anymore. And so you have to be intentional to get the activity in because you're normal.
Um, if you have a 9 to 5 job and you're sitting at a desk, then you have to really be conscious to to make sure that you're getting that activity. How often should you stand up if you're at a desk, like on the regular? I know my watch goes off every hour. They say every hour. Um, yeah, and yeah, my watch.
Yeah, it's good. It's like time to stand. And I'm like, but I can't right now. I'm like doing something. I learned to ignore it though. Which isn't good. I think it should, you know, I think, um, you can also track water. It'll tell you to drink water. Like, which is pretty cool too. Cause I think, um, we don't hydrate enough.
How important is hydration for stretching? I mean, it's just like everything else, you know? You have to stay hydrated. Yeah. Yeah. And your muscles, you know, they're more flexible when they're hydrated too, so that is a very important aspect of it. Yeah. I think it's, I don't know, 90% water or something crazy is what our bodies made.
Yeah, that's a lot. Yeah, that's a lot. A lot. So you gotta, gotta fuel it. For sure.
