 107: Power Of Self-Love

Welcome to today’s episode. I’m your host, Genecia Alluora. Today I want to talk about a huge lesson in self-love. The power of self-love is key to a lot of women’s success.

A  lot of women are extremely nurturing and loving to everyone except themselves. Some psychologists say is because from an early age girls are taught to be helpful, selfless, and no to trouble anyone. I think it causes some women to feel guilty as if they are not worth spending time or money on or even asking for help. This attitude has a direct impact on our weight, health, relationships, sex, and success and holds back so much potential that could make a huge difference in the world to own and love the F-word.

Take care of yourself

(2:21-2:25) Now, I have to admit being one of the worst in self-love.

(2:29-2:42) I was on the ground with several jobs on the go. As a waitress, I was teaching yoga, aerobics, line dancing and not giving myself physical care or even rest.

(2:44-2:59) Now, I remember a really bad time in my life when my self-care was at an all-time low. Now, it serves as a powerful reminder that I am in control of how I feel about myself.

(4:12-4:30) Of course today, I am much better now. But I have to remind myself that I’m allowed to take care of myself lovingly and I deserve a great relationship. That even though It’s something that I still need to work on, at least I’ve come a long way since that day.

Self-love is important

(4:31-4:54) So why is self-love so important? Now, there are some women who seem effortlessly, confidently, beautiful and things just magically happen for them. They might not be the smartest, the nicest, or the most attractive, but there’s something indefinable that makes them stand out like a star.

(4:55-5:38) And usually, these women get what they want because they ask for it and they feel like they deserve it. It’s just as simple as that. They think nothing of treating themselves as they would a special friend or someone they love. This is not selfish. This is a form of self-love and acceptance. Now self-love and self-care is not just about buying yourself flowers, going to the hairdresser, going for massage, but treating yourself how you would treat others. This includes forgiving yourself for mistakes in any area of your life. It’s about being kind to yourself.

What makes you feel special and loved?

(
7:02-7:20) For me, I love spending time alone in solitude. Sitting in my beautiful space, either at home or in a park, or just listening to podcasts and enjoying the beauty around me along East coast park.

(7:21-7:32) When I’m busy, fun things go out of the window. And when we are busy, fun things go out of the window because we think we don’t have time.

(7:33-7:51) When money is tight, we feel guilty about spending money on non-essential experiences. The reason why it’s so important is that when we laugh and have fun - we feel lighter and happier. And this affects how we treat our bodies as well.

(8:04-8:13) Don’t let budget issues hold you back from self-care. It’s usually a reflection of how you treat yourself on the inside

(8:36-8:47) Now there are plenty of things you can do that don’t cause too very much money to have very good self-care and therefore power of self-love is unleashed.

Key takeaways:
  1. Treat yourself the way you would treat others.
  2. You are in control of how you feel about yourself.
  3. Don’t feel guilty
  4. You deserve more.
  5. Forgive yourself.

Genecia Alluora: Hello gorgeous, and welcome to today's episode. I'm your host Genecia Alluora, I'm the author of two bestselling books, Make it Happen and Secrets of Personal Branding. A former Miss Singapore, Cafe retail chain owner, and Southeast Asia Woman of Excellence 2010, and International Progressive Women 2019. I'm also the founder of Soul Rich Woman. Now, today I want to talk about a huge lesson in self of love. The power of self love is key to a lot of women success. Now, a lot of women are extremely nurturing and loving to everyone except themselves. Some psychologists say it's because of at from an early age, girls are taught to be helpful, selfless, and not to trouble anyone.

[00:01:45]
Genecia Alluora: I think it causes some women to feel guilty as if they are not worth spending time or money on, or even asking for help. Now, this attitude has a direct impact on our weight, health, relationships, sex, and success. And holds back so much potential that could make a huge difference in the world to own and love the F word. Being fabulous, having freedom, financial independence, and a happy family. Now, I have to admit, being one of the worst in self love because I had to support myself through school since I was 14. I was on the ground with several jobs on the go as a waitress, I was teaching yoga, aerobics, line dancing, and not giving myself physical care or even rest. Now, I remember a really bad time in my life when my self care was at an all time low.

[00:02:53]
Genecia Alluora: Now, it serves as a powerful reminder that I am in control of how I feel about myself. I was having problems with my ex boyfriend at that time, and it was making me miserable. He was living in another country and kept cheating on me, but I just couldn't break it off. He was Taiwanese, and he traveled to Taiwan a lot, and I found out, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. After another midnight call, trying to get some affection or closure out of him, I eventually hung up the phone and cried. I had reached a breaking point where even though I had a relationship and I thought that I had one, I had to cry myself out. And literally, my vision cleared up. And honestly, I didn't like what I saw.

[00:03:56]
Genecia Alluora: So I just want to say that I was just using him as an excuse and giving him permission to treat me worse than I was treating myself. Of course, today I am much better now, but I have to remind myself that I'm allowed to take care of myself lovingly and I deserve a great relationship. That even though it's something that I still need to work on, at least I've come a long way since that day. So why is self love so important? Now there are some women who seem effortlessly, confidently beautiful and things just magically happen for them. They might not be the smartiest, the nicest, or the most attractive, but there is something indefinable that makes them stand out like a star.

[00:04:54]
Genecia Alluora: Usually, these women get what they want because they ask for it and they feel like they deserve it. It's just as simple as that. They think nothing of treating themselves as they would a special friend or someone they love. Now, this is not selfish. This is a form of self love and acceptance. Now, self love and self care is not just about buying yourself flowers, going to the hairdresser, going for massage, but treating yourself how you would treat others. This includes forgiving yourself for the mistakes in any area of your life. It's about being kind to yourself. Imagine saying, you're so stupid, you can never get anything right. To a little kid, or you are so fat.

[00:05:48]
Genecia Alluora: Well, you will never. But quite often we are saying similar things to ourselves or to ourselves like second class citizens. I would say one of the things that still allowed me to put on weight, I actually gained 10 kilos when after I started my cafe retail chain business. I gained 10 kilos, literally, because I was based in Indonesia. I was literally eating and not caring about myself. Externally, it looked like, oh, because I'm running a cafe retail chain business. We're in three countries with 18 franchises and licenses. It looks like a business thing. We're eating so much and therefore I put on weight. But the inner check takes me through a self destruction on self love. It was non existent.

[00:06:44]
Genecia Alluora: Something happened because I just felt that my soul was empty, even though I was running a business, a really profitable one, in fact. So I would say this, what makes you feel special and loved? For me, I love spending time alone in solitude, sitting in my beautiful space, either at home or in a park, or just listening to podcast and enjoying the beauty around me along East Coast Park. When I'm busy, fun things go out of the window. And when we are busy, fun things go out of the window because we think we don't have time. When money is tight, we feel guilty about spending money on nonessential experiences. The reason why it's so important is that when we laugh and have fun, we feel lighter and happier.

[00:07:48]
Genecia Alluora: And this affects how we treat our bodies as well. So when was the last time you really had fun? What do you like to do for fun? When is the last time you did that? And what's holding you back? Don't let budget issues hold you back from self care. It's usually a reflection of how you treat yourself on the inside. I did a program where I had to do a self care activity every day for 30 days. And I was shocked on how I was treating myself. Some days I would write down, went for a walk under self care. Does it sound like a luxurious treat and a luxurious experience? Now, there are plenty of things you can do that don't cost you very much money to have very good self care, and therefore, power of self love is unleashed.

[00:08:47]
Genecia Alluora: Number one, change your sheets regularly so they smell nice and fresh. Two, put on makeup every day and do your hair. Three, iron your clothes and polish your shoes so you feel smart. Four, buy yourself a new laptop. Number five, pick up flowers from your neighborhood for your room. Six, use the special stationary and write a note to your mom. Number 7, put on moisturizer and sunblock when you get out of the shower. Number 8, make a body scrub from sugar and oatmeal. Number 9, join the Sour Rich Woman Blueprint just for pleasure. Number 10, go to bed at a good time so you feel rested the next day, and so on and so forth. Please share with me, connect with me on social media, Facebook, LinkedIn, or Instagram, and tell me, how are you unleashing the power of self care and self love?

[00:09:59]
Genecia Alluora: Are you living a beautiful and happy life or are you living a life without the F word? Now, is there an area of self love that you struggle with? Whether is it fun, clothes, beauty, rest, relaxation, exercise, sex, and relationships. I would love to hear from you. Please believe that you are worth spending time and money on. Your life will expand and you'll start to believe in yourself even more. When you grow outside of your limitations, fears, and self doubts, when you grow out of the needing other people's approval, when you grow out of living up to the expectations of others, when you finally choose to give yourself permission, this is time that you will be able to own and love the F word. Being fabulous, having freedom, financial independence, any happy family.

[00:11:02]
Genecia Alluora: We all have a part to play in this. This is your time and you are ready for the next step. The more you take action in a consistent way, the faster you build momentum and really grow your business. Now, if you love today's episode, do rate, review, and subscribe to our podcast on iTunes and Spotify or any apps that you are using to listen in because it helped us to get found. Someone might just need to hear this episode. As always, I love you, appreciate you, and thank you for being here. You are the reason why I show up every day to walk with you, not in front of you. I'm right here beside you. Perfectly imperfect. Just want to say, celebrate and anchor positive experiences because you are worth it. You deserve whatever you want to create in the world and you matter most. I love you. I see you in the next episode and bye for now.

[00:12:07]
Genecia Alluora: The key to unlock consistent success. The key to unlock that diamond within you. No other things involved. This is what you need to do and must do tonight. You can do it because I've done it. As long as you have a mentor who can take you from where you are now to where you want to be, you can shortcut your success. You can be different in order to make a difference. Turn your talent into your business. Turn your passion into a paycheck. By being you. By being you and only you. Give yourself a second chance. Never say no to your failures. As a woman, we have the power in our hands. Never let your fears hold you back. Quit thinking and start doing. Life is really short and keep pursuing what you truly ever wanted to achieve. Women come together. Alone, we are strong. Together, we are unstoppable. The Soul Rich Woman blueprint is going to be transforming your life today, yesterday, last year. Because you took action today, I'm going to say more power to you.
