OK Solberg:

I Wanna again welcome you to The 405 Coffee Break. Guys, get you a cup of coffee, glass iced tea, bottle of water. Is that wind blowing? Let's see what's happening.

OK Solberg:

Spring wheat $5.68 a bushel. 550lb steer calf not moving much now, but I will tell you a canner bull, 11 head of them, averaging 1,875lbs brought $2.13 a pound, which equates out to $3,993 a head, for a canner bull. Butcher hog in Iowa going up a bit 71¢ a pound and a 100lb fat lamb in Billings also inching its way up $3.07 a pound. But guys, there's more much more.

OK Solberg:

Today, just for the fun of it, let's flashback to the summer of 1966. Oh, yes. It was 60 years ago. It's a nice round number. We're gonna set the old time machine for the year 1966 in Phillips County, Montana. Let's see if anyone back then is still with us today.

OK Solberg:

But first, a bible verse that I would like to claim as my theme bible verse for this program, Deuteronomy 32:7 Did you get that? Deuteronomy 32:7

OK Solberg:

Remember the days of old. Consider the years of many generations. Ask your father and he will show you your elders and they will tell you. I love that verse. Theme verse for The 405, Deuteronomy 32:7

OK Solberg:

First off, I found this interesting article on the front page from 07/26/1966 no. 07/28/1966. Phillips County News. The heading reads bear killed at boy scout camp. Highlight of the camp at Lake Elizabeth for boy scouts from troop 28, age 14 and over last week was the killing and burying of a bear by park rangers.

OK Solberg:

The bear had raided the camp on Monday, and when he returned on Tuesday, was shot by the rangers. The scouts and their leaders, Jim McCoy and Charles Graydon, had taken the 12 mile hike to the lake on Sunday.

OK Solberg:

Attending this camp were Mike Lowney, John Demarais, Jeff Hungerford, Jim Hannon, Jim Dancer, Mark Hitch, and Ron McCoy. Okay. Same front page. I see 96 contestants from Phillips County participated in the boots and saddles day, and that happened Sunday at Trafton Park. Trophy winners for High Point Boy and Girl were Greg Oxhart and Patty Sue Smith.

OK Solberg:

Also, the front page shows that swimming lessons have been progressing. In the 1st session, Deborah Light, Jenny Stickley, Jeff Stickley, Stuart Wilson, and in intermediate class, David Hitch, Terry Sikovnik, Anita Hitch, Mary Jacobson, Laura Nordland, Brendan Nordland, Mark Hungerford, and Cindy Whiprude. Now in the August 11 edition from 1966, I see Malta flyers are mighty proud of Mrs Russ Zabalski and Mrs Bud Johnson as they came home with a 3rd place trophy and a gift of a travel alarm clock. Still front page. Looks like the Phillips County Fair in Dodson, Montana went off with a bang.

OK Solberg:

I see some boy scouts there on the front page with governor Tim Babcock. Looks like they're in the boy scout booth at the fair. Beside the governor, there is a Martin Anderson, Mark Ivanish, Michael Anderson, Mike Lowney. Sure glad to see he didn't get eaten by that bear, Dwayne Sobalski, Jack Kamala, David Peters, and Paul Stengel. I see in the local gleanings that Mr & Mrs E T Taylor and grandchildren Suzanne, Becky, Steven, and Mary Alice Taylor returned Tuesday from a week's trip through the western part of the state.

OK Solberg:

Interesting. I see Mrs Leroy Rummel and David and Mrs Willie Dahl. Well, what they do? They motored to Havre Thursday for shopping and medical checks. It appears that from the Loring area, a custom combiner by the last name of Walker was mugged and robbed of $17 as he walked between two tents at the Phillips County Fair at Dodson.

OK Solberg:

I see in the Bennett Lake News that Mrs Dwayne Simonton, Janine and Dwayne, and Mrs Lloyd Leftall were Thursday afternoon callers at the Leonard Anderson home. Also, from out there at Bennett Lake, I see Mr & Mrs Noble Meisdalen and boys and Fred Meisdalen were Sunday dinner guests at Mr & Mrs Konrad Bergsago and family. It's also reported that our community is very proud of Rhoda Johnson and Julia Cebulski who placed 3rd in the 99's Big Sky race. Now I see Perry Wilson has listed a nice a real nice modern house with a nice garden and garage. Two lots can be bought at real easy terms.

OK Solberg:

Price, $4,200. I see up there in the Whitewater News, visitors the past week at the Harry Austin senior home and Gus Guslander home were their sisters, Mrs Vesta Dunlap and son Clay and his wife. And finally, from the hospital news, I see Mrs Phil Perry and Donna Richardson were dismissed on 08/04/1966. Oh, wait. One more thing.

OK Solberg:

I see in news about school starting again. Alarm clock. The prices of a school lunch for the coming year will be increased 5¢. 5¢ per lunch in an effort to balance the increasing cost of operating a lunch program. End of quote. Going up a whole nickel.

OK Solberg:

So until next time, as you go out there, remember now, don't be bitter.
