Welcome back to the pod the dolphin podcast for this episode I'm joined here with Mrs. Humlicek.
Mrs. Humlicek:Hi dolphins I'm thrilled to join you Today, we're diving into a topic that makes waves in the world of learning, episodic learning. You see spelled S E A. One way the brain learns best is through episodic experiences. Episodes where students don't just hear about learning, they experience it. This anchors learning and real sensory rich experiences where students are hearing and tasting, touching, smelling, seeing, and truly immersed in what they're learning.
Mrs. Humlicek:Our youngest often spend weeks diving into the world of fairy tales. At the end of the unit, through our magical fairy tale ball, students dress up, dance, and celebrate the story elements and characters they've been learning. It's truly a storybook ending they'll never forget. Why do we do this at the Honor Roll School? Because memories with motion, memories with emotion are the ones that last.
Mrs. Humlicek:Students might swim into class one day and find they've entered a cozy cafe. It's a poetry cafe complete with classical music, appropriate lighting, and the scent of creativity, and maybe a hint of imaginary coffee beans. Other days, it's a pizza planet where students munch on math and slice up fractions with cheesy enthusiasm. March Madness turns into Genre Madness where students vote on their favorite books in a literary bracket that's nothing but net. These aren't just lessons, they are learning waves that create lasting memories.
Mrs. Humlicek:At the Honor Roll School, we don't just take field trips. We embark on field experiences. Students may travel to the Galveston Bay to collect water samples. Yes, students wear waders, use beakers to collect water samples, and then use high-tech equipment to analyze the water quality. It's these moments that create positive neural currents that stick with our dolphins long after they've returned.
Mrs. Humlicek:Now let's transition to something we all experience, but may not often talk about. Even dolphins make mistakes. We learn from the splash downs, yes, forgetting a belt, missing a homework assignment, or not studying for a spelling test, is actually part of a current of growth. Because a forgotten belt today becomes a belt in the backpack habit tomorrow. These aren't failures, they're just learning ripples in the ocean of growing up.
Mrs. Humlicek:Parents, this is where your role in our dolphin pod becomes important. Talking through those rough tides with your child helps them reflect, reframe, and resurface stronger than ever. More ideas? Wanna make math meaningful at home? Try this.
Mrs. Humlicek:Next time you're baking together, have your child measure one cup of flour and then three one thirds cups. Voila, equivalent fractions. That's the kind of learning that sticks to your fins or fingers. To our wonderful parents, thank you for being such a vital part of our dolphin pod. So until the next tide or time, keep swimming forward and keep learning through doing.
Mrs. Quintero:Thank you, Mrs. Humlechuk. You know, and just last week, the third through eighth grade students participated in the annual honor code signing. The action of signing their name with the fancy quill pen after hearing about the qualities and expectations of THRS students who follow our core beliefs of honor, responsibility, and respect. The action of thinking about and signing their name beyond the listening creates a learning memory of these this event.
Mrs. Quintero:Memories in motion. I think that's what I heard miss Humlechuk say. Speaking of learning events, let's dive into what's coming up. Middle school curriculum night will be Thursday, August 21 at 6PM. Parents will follow their child's schedule meeting each teacher and hearing about the course and setting expectations for the year.
Mrs. Quintero:Kindergard, third, and fourth grade curriculum night is on August 27, and first and second grade will have their evening of learning for parents on August 28, both starting at 6PM. Fourth grade safety patrols have started, so please be cautious in the morning pool line as they are super excited to greet all of the students. Reminder about no cell phone usage in the car pool line. And it's almost time for our annual pink out shirt presale. We do this each year to support and raise funds for the Susan G.
Mrs. Quintero:Komen Race for a Cure. But we have an addition this year you will want to get and have that shirt for. And here's Ms. Humlechek to tell us what's going on.
Mrs. Humlicek:We have created a team, the Honor Roll School Making Waves for a Cure that will be walking or running in the Susan G. Komen Race for a Cure on Saturday, October 4. Many people may know, but some people may not know that I'm a seven year breast cancer survivor and would love to have THRS families and friends join our team as we race for a cure. What an amazing episodic experience and community experience for our pod. Thank you for
Mrs. Quintero:that Ms. Humleczek. So mark your calendars presale opens on August 29 and an amazing THRS community coming together to walk for a cure on Saturday, October 4. Reminder, the Dolphin Pod Podcast is housed on the weekly newsletter and on the app. Remember, the THRS app is where it's at.
Mrs. Quintero:So until next time, this is missus Quintero.
Mrs. Humlicek:And missus Humlechuk signing off from the tank. This podcast is for informational and entertainment purposes only. This podcast and all its content are protected by copyright laws.
