In India, the cashew market is under strain due to weak kernel demand and a depreciating currency. The rupee has reached a historic low against the United States dollar, increasing costs for imported raw cashew nuts. Current import prices from Tanzania and Mozambique are at United States dollars 1.91 per kilogram and United States dollars $1.6 to $1.62 per kilogram, respectively, while international raw cashew nut offers remain high, exceeding United States dollars on our one of 500 per metric ton.
Speaker 1:Despite early April price relaxations following shipments from Cote D'Ivoire, Burkina Faso, and Cambodia, February 2026 exports tallied nearly 2,700 metric tons, with traders expecting clarity on global demand from China and The Middle East soon. Meanwhile, in Vietnam, the cashew market is struggling with depreciating kernel quality despite falling prices. The ongoing disparity between high raw cashew nut prices and lower processed kernel values influences buying decisions, prompting roasters and nut processors to prioritize premium grades (W3 and W240) despite the need for higher bids. The market remains steady but cautious, influenced by the subpar quality of early West African imports that constrained high quality kernel availability. In Cote D'Ivoire, after exporters gained access to the market on 03/25/2026, A tight procurement window resulted in local processors acquiring 530,000 to 550,000 metric tons of raw cashew nuts.
Speaker 1:Although harvests are in progress, on farm stockholding has diminished as farmers, driven by urgent cash requirements, sell harvests soon after collection. Conditions appear normal despite previous forecasts, though yields have decreased compared to last year. Wholesale prices fluctuate between United States dollars 0.72 and 0.75 per kilogram, with factory gate prices ranging from United States dollars 0.82 to 0.87 per kilogram, indicating competition among processors. Globally, the influx of raw cashew nuts from West Africa and Cambodia in April initially drove prices down, yet persistent high international costs above United States (dollars fifteen hundred per metric ton) maintained an unfavorable balance between raw input costs and kernel values. The issues with quality in Vietnam and the weak kernel demand in India reinforce careful purchasing strategies.
Speaker 1:The upcoming market trajectory will largely depend on whether demand shifts from China and The Middle East will realign cashew kernel pricing and demand.
