Charted

What is Charted?

Like a master surveyor, Jesus gives us clear directions to find a fulfilling, purpose-filled relationship with Himself - a map to the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Charted is a daily devotional written by the junior class at Fountainview Academy (Class of 2019). Based on the book Steps to Christ, this book explores the path to the Originator and Provider of Genuine Joy. We don't have to be confused about the way. The certainty is in the journey: divinely Charted.

Let the soul be drawn out and upward, that God may grant us a breath
of the heavenly atmosphere. We may keep so near to God that in every
unexpected trial our thoughts will turn to Him as naturally as the
flower turns to the sun. – Steps to Christ, pp. 99-100
Ramon and his wife were driving back from a series of
evangelistic meetings when the rain started to hammer the earth. The
couple had done a presentation that night, and they were exhausted.
They could hardly wait to get back home and embrace their daughters.
As the weather worsened, their route home led them onto a country
road with no streetlights at all. It was pitch black, and the lights of the
car kept dimming. Then, out of the blue, Ramon stopped the car.
“Honey, is everything okay?” his wife asked nervously.
“We need to turn back,” Ramon stated plainly.
“But we need to get back to our kids; we can’t just stop now!”
she exclaimed, clearly perplexed.
“God told me to stop the car, and to turn back,” he repeated.
Immediately, the couple changed their course and headed back to the
little church where they ended up staying the night.
The next morning, the couple drove down the same way
they had gone the night before. Again, they turned onto the dirt road
and came to the place where Ramon had stopped. Looking out the
window, they saw that the bridge in front of them had collapsed into
the overflowing, raging river. They stopped the car and stared in
disbelief at the mangled bridge. If they had continued on, their lives
would have ended that night.
If Ramon hadn’t had a connection with God, I wouldn’t have
my grandfather or my grandmother with me today. Ramon—my
grandfather—had developed an ear for God’s voice, and he knew that
when God told him something, he should obey. In his time of need,
he turned to God without hesitation. In the same way, I know I must
always be in communion with my best friend, because only then will I
hear His voice of warning.
