Build in Public Daily

In today's episode, we explore the power of tackling challenging tasks early in the day. I woke up and faced my own challenge - a bone-chillingly cold plunge. But by starting my day with this difficult task, I set myself up for success in overcoming future hurdles. The strategy of completing something challenging in the morning provides a solid foundation for overcoming excuses later on. Some days, the mere reminder of having already accomplished this daunting task is what keeps me pushing forward. Other days, when my energy and motivation are already high, it's the discipline of sticking to my commitments that propels me forward. Admittedly, it's not always easy. Today, the cold plunge is particularly painful. But by pushing through and persevering, I know that I am building the resilience necessary to tackle the other difficult tasks I have lined up for today. What's fascinating about motivation is its unpredictable nature. Something that used to be easy can suddenly feel difficult due to changes in temperament, mood, or feelings. That's why it's crucial, even when we don't feel like it, to tackle the hard things we know we are capable of - even if it's painful. So, join me today as we explore the power of embracing challenge and pushing through when motivation is lacking. By prioritizing difficult tasks early in the day, we can equip ourselves with the strength and determination needed to conquer whatever comes our way.

What is Build in Public Daily?

In this show, we share the struggles and challenges of growing and building stuff.

Cold plunge thoughts. Got a layer of ice on here this morning. Cold.

The water is about 35 degrees this morning. It's chilly.

I mentioned yesterday that I do the hard stuff in the morning so that I can

do more hard stuff later.

I want to expand on that a little bit.

I figure if I can get... I just gotta figure if I can get...

Some hard stuff done early on than

when i want to make an excuse later i can say well i've

already been in the cold plunge for three minutes this morning i can

do this too and some days that's that's

the only thing that keeps me going other days i feel like i have all the energy

and motivation and discipline in the world but it's this discipline specifically

that that keeps me doing this, to be disciplined,

to have integrity about doing what I say I'm going to do and following through on that.

It's not always easy. Today is tough. It hurts, but I'm doing it.

And by doing this right now, I know that later I'm going to be able to do the

other hard thing that I need to do today.

And you know what's crazy about motivation is you don't know when that hard

thing is going to be hard.

You don't know when it's going to be difficult to do something that is really

quite simple and easy that you've done a hundred times before.

But that's the thing. Our temperament,

our mood, our feelings change about what is hard and what's not.

That's why when you don't want to, you got to do the hard things that you know

you can do, even when it's painful.
