I wanna again welcome you to The 405 Coffee Break. Weekends coming, guys. Get you cup of coffee, glass iced tea, bottle of water. Let's see what's happening.
OK Solberg:Spring wheat $5.71 a bushel. 550lb steer calf $5 to $5.10 a pound. A butcher hog in Iowa 68ยข a pound, and a 100lb lamb that's fat in Billings will fetch you $3 and a nickel, $3.05 But, guys, there's more, much more.
OK Solberg:Okay. Cars on Monday. Selling a pencil with words on Tuesday. Old PCN news on Wednesday. Baseball yesterday. What what what what's it gonna be today? What's it gonna be today? Hey, I got me an idea. I know what it's gonna be about. It's gonna be about morale.
OK Solberg:The definition of morale. Morale. The mental and emotional condition as of enthusiasm, confidence, or loyalty of an individual or group with regard to the function or tasks at hand. That sizes it up professionally. So it's how you feel inside and how that feeling helps or hinders your ability to perform your functions and duties.
OK Solberg:Just mowing the lawn is hard. If the doctor just called and told you you have cancer. Yet, it could be snowing like the Dickens and 20 below zero, and you have to pitch hay into the manager for the cattle. But that pretty girl that sits in front of you in study hall with a magical smile, well, she told you she'd go to the prom with you. And she said, I was hoping you'd ask. How's your morale now?
OK Solberg:The wind doesn't seem as cold and the snow isn't nearly as wet, and the pitchfork isn't as heavy as you remembered it. Morale is a very important thing to think about. See, our morale shapes what we get done and how spunky we feel in doing it.
OK Solberg:Listen to this bible verse from Isaiah 41:10. So do not fear for I am with you. Do not be dismayed for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Where was it found? Isaiah 41 verse 10.
OK Solberg:That is telling us a walk with God raises and improves our morale. I wanna tell you a story about our two oldest children, Stacy and Kenny. Now they're adults now, of course. But at the time of this story, they were about 5 years old and 3 years old. One thing about children, they don't really like the dark.
OK Solberg:It's safe to say they're afraid of the dark or better yet, they're afraid in the dark. So I'm putting them to bed one night out in Harb, and they wanted the door not closed tight. They didn't want the door closed tight so some light could funnel in from the middle room. Now we always honored that policy. But as I'm sitting on the bed with Stacy and Kenny, I I had me an idea.
OK Solberg:I said, guys, I wanna do a little exercise so that dark isn't so frightening. What I wanna do is I'll sit right here next to you, but you can't be on my lap. I'll sit right next to you here on the bed, and then I'm gonna turn the light off. I won't leave it off forever, but just for a minute or so. I looked at them and I asked, how's that sound?
OK Solberg:And they both agreed. They understood the rules of the exercise. So I closed the door tight, tight as a drum. Then I said, okay. I'm gonna turn the light out, and it's gonna get really dark.
OK Solberg:Are you ready? They both said yes. They sure did. They were very agreeable children. Okay. Here goes. Click. Guys, it was as dark as the inside of a cow. But guess what? Not a whimper, not a peep, not a whimper or a peep from those two little kids.
OK Solberg:We sat there for a few seconds, all quiet. In the darkness, I finally called out. How you doing, Kenny? Good. This exercise was working well.
OK Solberg:I said, are you scared? That little Kenny snorted a little and said, no. I said, how come you aren't scared, Kenny? And that little guy said, because you're with us, daddy. It would seem that we have a positive impact on the people around us even when they can't see us.
OK Solberg:It would appear that we can raise a person's morale by just being with them. Keep that in mind. Keep your face always towards the sunshine and the shadows will fall behind you. So until next time, have a good weekend. As you go out there, remember now, don't be bitter.
