Part 1
Billy Bragg – Never Cross A Picket Line
Angel Olsen – Big Time
Tomberlin – stoned
Faye Webster – Kind Of (Type of Way)
Gabriels – One and Only
Hot Chip – Down

Facts
Billy Bragg – Never Cross A Picket Line
- A couple of days late, but marking International Workers’ Day which is every year on May 1, which was Sunday. May 1 was chosen as the date for International Worker's Day to commemorate the Haymarket Riot in Chicago in 1886. The Haymarket Riot, which was a violent confrontation between police and labour protesters, soon became a symbol of workers' rights across the world.
- Interestingly, the city of Chicago built a memorial on the site of the tragedy, but only to the police killed in the incident. The US also does not celebrate labor day on this date. Now, the people of Chicago have a way of letting their feelings be known, and the memorial to the police officers slain at Haymarket was initially put on the site of the tragedy, but was moved to police HQ down on the South Side due to the memorial being defaced and even bombed on an almost regular basis over the years.
Angel Olsen – Big Time
- The title track to the singer-songwriter’s sixth studio album, which is due out June 3. Born in St. Louis and now based in Asheville, NC, Olsen actually lists family origins as Chicago, so nice to be able to tie that one in.
- Once again, Big Time by Angel Olsen is out in full June 3.
Tomberlin – stoned
- This is an artist that really seems to be picking up steam in the run-up to the release of the “I don’t know who needs to hear this” LP which just dropped Friday.
- The album dropped via Saddle Creek, and as you could hear with that tune, deals with the heaviness of isolation.
Faye Webster – Kind Of (Type of Way)
- The Car Therapy Sessions EP is out as of Friday as well. Faye Webster and a larger orchestral accompaniment covered several tunes from the artist’s last two albums Atlanta Millionaire’s Club and I Know I’m Funny haha.
- As usual, brilliant stuff.
Gabriels – One and Only
- This is an amazing trio out of LA with their first single of 2022. The song deals with bonds built through traumatic experiences.
- For those unfamiliar, check out the group’s 2020 EP ‘Love & Hate in a Different Time’ and 2021’s ‘Bloodline’. Elton John described the former as “one of the most seminal records I’ve heard in the past 10 years”.
Hot Chip – Down
- This one actually dropped on April 19, with the group announcing their new album Freakout/Release which will be out in full on August 19 via Domino.
- This is not only the lead single, but the opening salvo to the album itself.

Part 2
O3ohn(ozone) - Tallgrass
Toro y Moi ft. Unknown Mortal Orchestra - The Medium
LUCKY TAPES - Guild
The Happy Fits - Dance Alone
Dehd - Empty In My Mind
Butter Bath - Kurrajong Hotel

Facts
O3ohn(ozone) - Tallgrass
04.29
Korean singer songwriter O3ohn released their newest single Tallgrass. The song is about walking through a forest you can't see through. The artist claims it's been a while since they've improvised a song using their senses and how they are nervous. Well, using my sixth sense, I believe there's nothing to worry about and we can all enjoy the music.

Toro y Moi ft. Unknown Mortal Orchestra - The Medium
04.29
'Mahal’ centres around an exploration of sound as the Californian artist skips across genres over 13 tracks. Believe it or not, ‘Mahal’ took over five years to make. Weaving ‘60s and ‘70s psychedelic rock with electronics, the artist also known as Chaz Bear floats between the decades, paying homage to all the sounds.

LUCKY TAPES - Guild
04.27
LUCKY TAPES is a Japanese trio band. They have recently released their fourth album, "BITTER!" after two years from their last. Our song Guild is the fourth track from the album and is about wanting to be young and innocent once again. Living life through water cooler talks and adult society is lame. Can't say I disagree.

The Happy Fits - Dance Alone
04.29
Alt-Rock-Pop trio The Happy Fits return with their second single, “Dance Alone,”. The song is about taking on self-doubt and the fear of being alone. Apparently the Chorus was inspired by a joke from one of the band members, who blurted out " I don't wanna dance alone". Me neither guys, me neither.

Dehd - Empty In My Mind
04.27
Chicago indie-rock trio Dehd will release their new album, "Blue Skies", next month, following up 2020’s "Flower Of Devotion". Describing “Empty In My Mind,” the band says its about “the floating mindless space around a new crush… The sort of high that occurs, the spinning, the detachment and the feeling of ungroundedness. All of these things being either very fun or absolutely dreadful.” I'd say the latter is more relevant.

Butter Bath - Kurrajong Hotel
04.26
The song' s about growing up in conservative religious circles and the process of unlearning a lot of patterns as the artist reached their late teens and started thinking more critically about their beliefs. Kurrajong Hotel will be the last single before Butter Bath releases their newest EP on May 27th.

Part 3
Shin Ji Hoon - the deep sea
Beabadoobee - See You Soon
Momma - Speeding 72
The Walters - Million Little Problems
Swiss Portrait - Freak
Girlpool - Country Star

Facts
Shin Ji Hoon - the deep sea
For those unaware, Shin Ji-hoon is a South Korean singer, actress and figure skater. She has debuted her first album, "stars and memories and poetry" this past Sunday. She's given her most personal twist to the album, making it as if it's a photo album, but with music.

Beabadoobee - See You Soon
04.25
See You Soon is the fourth Track to the artists upcoming album, "Beatopia'. And according to Beabadoobee, what this song is actually based on is the notion that making mistakes in life is acceptable; mistakes are perfectly acceptable so long as the experience palpably forwards your self-development. I also believe that's true. No one can live a perfect life.

Momma - Speeding 72
04.19
Brooklyn band Momma announced a new album, "Household Name", due out July 1. "Speeding 72" drops in a reference to Pavement's "Gold Soundz" in the chorus. the band says. "We wanted it to be the sort of summertime anthem that you can turn on during a drive to impress your crush."

The Walters - Million Little Problems
04.15
We've got another little jig about self doubt and worry! Million Little Problems is what we all have that we can't handle most of the time. The artist explains just that. Also, it seems The Walters are compirsing a little EP or possible Album! There's nothing official, but their last was in 2015 and they're definitely overdue.

Swiss Portrait - Freak
04.29
Swiss Portrait is a project by Edinburgh based Artist Michael Kay Terence. With a DIY approach Michael records and produces all his music in his tiny spare room outside of Edinburgh. Freak is the 4th track to the 7track EP, "SafeHouse".

Girlpool - Country Star
Girlpool is back with a new Album called, "Forgiveness". Country Star is the 8th track to the newest album. The vibe is simultaneously sexy and unsettling on each line. Especially with “I wanna be your sin boy, baby.” it really cringes me in a way how the album is "Forgiveness".

Part 4
Short Fictions - Heather
Phantom Handshakes - Come Undone
Blossoms - Cinerama Holy Days
Particle Kid - MYCORRHIPHONE
The Yangbans (양반들) - Through The Tunnel
Nature TV - Loopholes

Facts
Short Fictions - Heather
Short Fictions members recently debuted a stoner metal side project on 4/20, but now they're getting back to their main business. "Heather" finds Short Fictions going in a cleaner, more power pop-inspired direction. They've chose Heather as their lead promotional single for their upcoming new album, "Every Moment of Every Day" coming out on June 24th.

Phantom Handshakes - Come Undone
Phantom Handshakes is a lo-fi, dream pop collaboration between Federica Tassano and Matt Sklar based in New York, NY. Come Undone is an accidental anti- war song. Unable to escape real world tragedies, this song came into play. Know

Blossoms - Cinerama Holy Days
Cinerama Holy Days is a song interpreted by Blossoms, released on the album Ribbon Around The Bomb on the 29th of April. The song is basically a theater filled with memories of their past lover and happiness. Socked in the past. Quite a beautiful concept.

Particle Kid - MYCORRHIPHONE
Particle Kid has released another video from the sprawling just-released Time Capsule LP. About “Mycorrhiphone,” Micah Nelson says, “I think this song is about… having consciousness? Being a … person? Whatever place it’s coming from, it makes me feel super good when I hear it! It’s also fun to play. Uplifting"

The Yangbans (양반들) - Through The Tunnel
04.12
Covid has acted as the dark ages for many, including the Yangbans. Alot have the COVID Blues and it seemed like an endless road. Now there's light shining at the end of the tunnel! The Yangbans have much planned for their audience, including this new single. I can definitely see the light.

Nature TV - Loopholes
From their newest, Heartbreak Skyline EP, Loopholes is a soft, jazz-inspired instrumentals and detailed, poetic narrative that fills all the crevices of a strained, weary heart. Quite soothing and chill. A good ending to our Under the Radar today.
