My stomach sounds like someone is trying to air drop it a photo
ACV still in my cabinet. Added some ACV with the mother to see if it would help.
Spaghetti in a ziplock bag update / sighting: my sister found a ziplock bag of cooked, nude spaghetti in a communal kitchen fridge at a rooftop party. Apparently there was Costco cake that was good. Remember when Costco got rid of sheetcakes during the pandemic and the country almost collapsed?
A deer is leaving her fawn at Brian’s parents house. It sleeps next to the driveway and gets scared anytime a car pulls in. Brian’s parents leave big piles of deer corn out for the deer so it’s sort of like the deer is dropping their kid off at a MACdonalds while they go to work.
Ongoing fire risk update: Fires are easier to see at night hence 1 firewatcher

My blind review: Assorted chapsticks, 90s Lip Smackers chapstick, cherry chapstick, a pack of Starbursts, walking past the corner of the mall that has a Bath & Body Works or Yankee Candle Store and a coffee shop. Fades to a vanilla potpourri. I was shocked when I looked at the label and saw it was Ormaie. Almost took a second morning shower to wash it off.

@wro: it's actually not only Tuscany but the center of Italy in general. there's historical reasons for it, where the Pope taxed salt so much in certain regions he had beef with and the people weren't able to afford it. Italian food is under salted in Italy

7am: Counter Culture coffee with half & half, made at home.
9:30am: Grilled gouda on olive oil toasted Mt. Athos Fire sourdough, made at home.
12pm: Pasta salad, made at home.
3pm: Milton’s salt and pepper crackers and cherries.
5:30pm: Thai green curry with ground pork, tofu, romanesco, and thai basil over basmati rice, made at home.
6pm: A glazed seashell cake, made at home.
Someone mentioned chicken kiev in Bored to Death so Brian went down a rabbit hole trying to come up with the perfect version of it. I’ve never had one so I don’t have a point of reference beyond comparing it on a chicken cordon bleu.
Barber Foods version my mom used to buy
We realized that what we really want is a fried chicken cutlet brushed with garlic and parsley butter like a slice of garlic bread
My mom said milk street does a ground chicken version
Pasta salad: shredded carrots, shredded white onion, parsley
Sauce: Duke’s, apple cider vinegar, mustard, sugar, garlic powder, salt
Black and white cookie research https://www.thepancakeprincess.com/best-black-and-white-cookie-bake-off/
Crowd favorite: Baked
Most “traditional” (per taster comments): Baked*
Best for lemon lovers: Epicurious, New York Times, Baked
Best cakey cookie: New York Times, Epicurious, Baked, King Arthur

Epicurious is behind a paywall but adds lemon and uses less egg yolk

Ina’s glaze recipe https://barefootcontessa.com/recipes/black-white-cookies
Seashell cookies: these taste like muffins, not black and white cookies; maybe would benefit from chilling dough over night; could be better next day like the italian ricotta cookies
Baked cookie base
Made a half batch
Meyer lemon zest
No additional egg joke because of Epicurious comment
Shook the buttermilk which threw off the liquid measurement
Made smaller cookies to fit in the seashell molds, total of
First pan 350 for 17 minutes
too big, no definition
Second pan 350 for 13 minutes
Smaller portions; chilled first
Better definition and shape
Third pan same thing
Icing: added food dyes to make a seafoam green / teal and meyer lemon juice. Once you ice them any hint of them being seashell shaped is gone; oddly enough the oversized shells had the most definition after icing. Scotty the donut guy says to glaze while the glaze is warm so it hardens but my glaze was never warm to begin with.
Wait I just had one after it sat in a Tupperware all day and it tasted like an entenmann’s glazed donut hole. Not what I was going for but still great.
Brian was housing them with a glass of milk and it felt very Frog and Toad yelling “we must stop eating” as they eat more cookies.
They’re good but not what I was expecting.
They kind of look like 90s seashell soap
I think next time I would just make the Italian ricotta cookies or try a different black-and-white cookie recipe maybe without lemon. I also think I just love the taste of processed black-and-white cookies which are basically loft house so cookies I guess. Also, I’m wondering if The New York Times viral butter mochi would be a good recipe to use with my seashell pans.
Someone in The New York Times comments said that real Jewish deli don’t use dairy in black-and-white cookies
It had been so long since I had had a black and white that the Whole Foods version tasted like a miracle. An oasis in the dessert where water had never tasted so sweet. Taste is relative. Taste is extremely relative. Eating a piece of Hershey’s candy after a month of no sugar and it will either taste like the most magical thing or absolute garbage. Try to eat a Reese’s peanut butter cup after eating a chocolate mousse will make you wonder how you ever could stand such a candy.

7am: Counter Culture coffee with half & half, made at home.
9am: Leftover curry with rice.
12:30pm: Grilled gouda on butter toasted Mt Athos Fire sourdough, made at home.
4pm: Glazed seashell cookies.
7:30pm: Leftover curry with rice.
My Mt Athos Fire sourdough was basically on fire because I burnt it
I bought both the coconut milk and coconut cream at Whole Foods and they are both just garbage; coconut water and coconut fat. I don’t understand. Totally ruins the curry. I bought a giant box of Chaokoh coconut milk for $70.
Cooked a pack of firm tofu (six months expired) in the curry for about 3-4 hours and it got so soft

6:30am: Counter Culture coffee with half & half, made at home.
Cake room: NYT Cooking Page-a-Day calendar recipes for Orange Creamsicle Ice Cream Cake, Brothy Thai Curry With Silken Tofu and Herbs, Citrusy Roasted Salmon and Potatoes, Caramelized Corn and Asparagus Pasta With Ricotta, Cheesy Spinach Bake, and Skillet Chicken Thighs With Broccoli and Orzo, and a note that says “Sheet cake from BJ’s. Chocolate and vanilla. Help yourself!”
10am: Leftover curry and rice.
11am: A cold brew with half & half from Meantime Coffee in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
4pm: Three black and white cookies from Whole Foods.
5:30pm: Chicken katsu with Bull-Dog tonkatsu sauce and romaine lettuce with Briannas creamy caesar dressing and parmesan, made at home.
One of the worst notes to see – an offering of office sheet cake without a sheet cake. Would have loved to try BJ’s sheet cake to compare to Coscto sheet cake. Or a Sam’s cake. Or a Walmart cake. The Harris Teeter sheet cake is delicious.
Went to the student coffee shop and the student spilled my coffee twice
Brianna’s dressing doesn’t have an apostrophe
The frozen dairy sale at Whole Foods was still going on so I got more Jeni’s. Tasted the salty caramel, which I bought for Brian. It’s ok. Quality is comparable to Haagen Dazs. Tasted like burnt sugar and too much salt. I wasn’t interested in having a bowl. I also got coffee, Boston Cream Pie, and a lemon blueberry flavor that my sister says tastes like lemon posset. My other sister keeps insisting that homemade ice cream is way better and I know she’s right but I’m just not motivated to make any. Maybe one day. My dad sent me two Kitchen aid ice cream attachments but neither of them have the actual parts you need to attach it to your mixer and actually mix the ice cream.
Whole foods black and white cookies: after eating the homemade version, these are actually worse.
Katsu was super crispy; maybe best yet or I just haven’t had in a while. I did buttermilk, egg, and mustard as the wet mix instead of mayonnaise. Perfect croutons over the salad.

6:30am: Counter Culture coffee with half & half, made at home.
9:30am: Leftover pasta salad with a soft boiled egg, made at home.
12:30pm: Grilled provolone and gouda on olive oil toasted Mt. Athos Fire sourdough, made at home.
2pm: Jeni’s darkest chocolate ice cream with Trappist raspberry jam.
6pm: A leftover chicken cutlet with ketchup.
8pm: Two black and white cookies from Whole Foods.
Got presliced deli provolone for 50% off. Feels safer than buying 50% off deli meat.
Brian got this Two Pitcher’s Brewing grapefruit and blood orange radler; kind of bitter and strange tasting; kind of like vomit. Apparently it’s called two pitchers because the brewery was started by two former baseball pitchers, not in reference to the volumetric measurement.
Now that I’m a few days removed from homemade black and white cookies the processed ones are starting to become more appealing and become my new normal / baseline

7am: Counter Culture coffee with half & half, made at home.
10am: A bad grandpa combo at Sunrise Biscuits in Louisburg, North Carolina.
12:30pm: A chocolate and vanilla swirl soft serve cone at Lucky’s Dairy Bar & Grill in Boydton, Virginia.
4pm: Big J crab dip with bruschetta crackers and a pour of Pitcher’s Brewing grapefruit and blood orange radler.
5pm: Half of a red plum and black and white cookies.
Sunrise biscuit bad grandpa with boomerang shaped hash brown. Everything tasted dirty. Super empty and vast with a big corner of dying plants. The kind of plants that makes you think it might have been a Chinese place and they left their plants behind. Brian got double Ham which is two slices of country ham. Woman tried to order a single sausage patty and was denied service. Biscuit was soft, flat, and wide more like a cat head biscuit. The
Man with a pistol strapped to his hip walked in so I instantly felt safer in case a squirrel got in. He could finish off the dying houseplants.
Drove around random scenic byways. Scenic byways to what? Another dollar general. Traveling along the dollar general interconnection highway. It’s only a matter of time before roads are privatized and owned by dollar general and you can only drive from dollar general to dollar general.
Lucky’s chicken salad was sweet and relish-forward, very pulverized. Came with waffle potato chips. Just vanilla soft serve next time. Maybe with fudge. Chocolate soft serve isn’t good. Cone is the perfect eating experience because the last bite is as good as the first but in a different way, which feels untrue for pizza.
Drove past Buchanan’s general store, the oldest operating family owned general store in the American southeast.
Drank the radler regardless of taste
Brian, a huge fan of crab dip, did not like the crab dip. He said it tasted too strongly of crab. Or canned crab. I thought it was decent for store bought crab dip. Better than the crap dip we got from the seafood place in CT for my mom.
Reddit users agree with Brian https://www.reddit.com/r/Costco/comments/1805tuu/no_to_the_crab_dip_big_j/
“An abomination”
Several people threw it away after one bite
It’s fine. I don’t hate it but I’m not running to the store to get another
At least it was on sale

7am: Counter Culture coffee with half & half, made at home.
11am: Two sunny eggs and fried potatoes with chives, bacon, and chili flakes, made at home.
2:30pm: Cheese curds and part of a cherry cheesecake malted milkshake from Cook Out in Oxford, North Carolina.
5pm: Bruschetta crackers and a pour of Two Pitchers radler.
Perfectly fried potatoes. Make a chili, garlic powder, and chive base and strain the hot potatoes and a tiny bit of the oil to kiss the chili flakes like making a chili oil
Family reunion was cancelled and thank god because it was 100 degrees
Brian insisted we drive to Walmart since that was the most American thing we could possibly do today. Stopped at cook out and ate it in the Walmart parking lot which was probably 120 degrees. What is more American, strapping a pistol onto your hip to go eat a double ham biscuit or eating Cook Out in a hot car in a Walmart parking lot?
Spent the rest of the day watching a British documentary series Clarkson Farm to balance out the American. I didn’t know who Jeremy Clarkson was and apparently he’s super problematic. It’s a funny documentary though because he fucks up this farm and gets yelled at by a 21 year old
Should have just gotten a plain vanilla malt. I’m coming around to appreciating vanilla. Blue bell vanilla. Cheesecake was a touch too tart. Brian got the watermelon shake (July only) which I accidentally took a sip of. My personal hell
July 5, 2026 (Sunday)
8am: Counter Culture coffee with half & half, made at home.
11am: A sunny egg over fried potatoes with chives and chili flakes, made at home.
3pm: Wavy Lays potato chips with French onion dip, two glasses of La Marca prosecco, steak with mushrooms and A1 sauce, twice baked potato casserole, mixed greens, Cheesecake Factory frozen brown bread with salted butter, and an ice cream sandwich ice box cake at Brian’s parents’ house.
Had potatoes three ways today
Brian started harvesting the potatoes so I fried more potatoes.
My sage plant is ripping. Does anyone still fry sage leaves
Went over to Brian’s parents’ house for his first cousin once removed’d birthday. How do you make that possessive? Opened the door and Brian’s mom was watching a screensaver on the TV. Someone left scary ambient spa music on the entire dinner which is actually perfect for a birthday for an 18 year old wearing studded cuffs
I don’t like cheap champagne; well excuse me don’t come to my house
Cook whip themed dessert of course; ice cream sandwiches didn’t melt because they aren’t real ice cream
Tarallini tasted like a cheez it
