It is 20 hours past midnight and it’s not so much the heat but the humidity, you know? Danno here and hoping you had a great Monday to start things this week, and it’s just about time for another best of 2022 show tonight, marked with aplomb into the clouds as August 8, 2022. So it’s been just about 4 months since we played a favorites show, and that means it’s just about time to make that happen again, with some of our favorite singles of the year thus far along with a recommendation on some great records that have come out in the process. So, to start we’ll start with a pair of cuts from Wet Leg, and we’ll get to the details after the wild debut cuts jut about, but for now let’s hit play... THIS is The Drop.
Wet Leg – Wet Dream
Wet Leg – Chaise Longue
___
Wet Leg – Wet Dream
Wet Leg – Chaise Longue
- Debut self-titled album from the band out of the Isle of Wight in The UK. These were two of the first singles released in the lead-up to the album which dropped on April 8.
Florence + The Machine – King
- This was the lead single to Dance Fever, Florence Welch & the band’s 5th studio album. May 13
Regina Spektor – Becoming All Alone
- This dropped as the lead single to the Russian-American artist’s 8th studio album, which came out June 24 via Warner.
Hurray For The Riff Raff – SAGA
- The latest from the music project of New Orleans-based Alynda Segarra is one of the best albums of the year thus far. Life On Earth is available everywhere.
Robert Glasper – Why We Speak
- Speaking of that, Black Radio 3 is also out & available everywhere, like this tune that features Esperanza Spaulding and Q-Tip in collab, the album just oozes with both soul and huge features.
Monophonics – Sage Motel
- The title track to the latest from the world-class psychedelic soul band outta Cali lead by our friend Kelly Finnigan. That LP dropped on May 13 via Colemine Records, so do check the rest, very deserving stuff.

Jacob Banks – Just When I Thought
- This is the lead single and opening salvo on the Nigerian-born UK-based artist’s latest project. Lies About The War will drop in full on Aug 26 via Nobody Records, so keep an eye out.
Ibibio Sound Machine – Afo Ken Doko Mien
- Another stellar Nigerian contribution to the modern music scene is this group led by Eno Williams. Dropped on March 25 is the Hot Chip-produced Electricity, Ibibio’s 5th studio album and is just a killer record, so go check it in full if you dug that.
Dust In The Sunlight – Former Lives
- This is a duo out of London and just a lovely tune released on February 9. The band just released their 2nd career EP earlier this summer called Same World, Different Eyes in case you wanna hear more.
Ryan Egan – Soft Power
- The title track to the artist’s debut album which just dropped last Friday, so go check it out. We were honored to debut another tune Full-Time on the show when he joined us April 1.
Black Country, New Road – Good Will Hunting
- This is only the band’s 2nd album, but it just might be their last with Isaac Wood as the frontman, as the co-founder of the band and lead singer quit the band the week the LP was being released. Even so, Ants From Up There is an absolutely stunning record, one of the best of 2022.
Arcade Fire – The Lightning I
Arcade Fire – The Lightning II
- This is the lead double single to the band’s latest album which they wrapped recording last year. Everything Now dropped May 6.

III & IV Popcast
Big Thief – Sparrow
Angel Olsen – Big Time
Andrew Bird – Atomized
Lunar Isles – Balloons
KALI – Anybody Else
Laura Rain & The Caesars – Rise Again
The Sure Fire Soul Ensemble – Love Age

Son Lux feat Mitski & David Byrne – This Is A Life
Just Mustard – 23
Khruangbin & Leon Bridges – Mariella
Bobby Oroza – I Got Love
Dreamer Isioma – Sunset Drive
Kurt Vile – Mount Airy Hill (Way Gone)

Big Thief – Sparrow
- Dragon New Warm Mountain, I Believe In You.
- A very strong double album, but this tune is just incomparable. Adrienne Lenker is a master of songwriting, and this quite literally Biblical tune comes off as a vedic chant with its repetitions and references.
- Big Thief drops down in Seoul on November 12, by the way, but tickets already sold out at the boutique venue holding only 250 people.
Angel Olsen – Big Time
- For us here at the show, this record is a return to form for the American artist. This tune is the title track to Olsen career 8th album, so go get it if you wanna check out more.
Andrew Bird – Atomized
- Great standalone single with an outstanding music video to boot, no album announced but do check our album of the year from 2019 My Finest Work Yet, Bird is a master.
Lunar Isles – Balloons
- For those unfamiliar, this is Korea-based artist David Skimming who’s originally out of Scotland. The past couple of years have seen the artist release two albums and an EP, and this is Skimming’s latest which dropped last month.
- You can check out our show with Lunar Isles on July 29 if you’d like to get to know more, and do follow wherever you listen to music.
KALI – Anybody Else
- One of the youngest up-and-comers out there on the indie scene, Kali Flannigan dropped this in March and the debut EP is out as of June 24 called Maltman and Effie, so go and check that for some nice surprises and twists.
Laura Rain & The Caesars – Rise Again
The Sure Fire Soul Ensemble – Love Age
- An ode to a couple soul favorites coming up. First is the title track to the Detroit band’s 5th career LP, in early April, and we had Laura Rain on the show, so go check the choice Detroit soul gems the artist dropped for us on that playlist. Rise Again by Laura Rain & The Caesars once again, out courtesy of LRK.
- SFSE dropped theiir Step Down LP as of April 1, and we premiered this joint on the show the week prior. Big up to both Laura Rain and Tim Felten for coming on the gig and sharing their inspirations.

Son Lux feat Mitski & David Byrne – This Is A Life
- An absolutely massive film score right here from Son Lux to a film named in even more expansive fashion. Everything Everywhere All At Once directed by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert had initial release in March, with Son Lux scoring the entire 49 song score to the flick.
Just Mustard – 23
- This is a band out of Dundalk, Ireland who released their 2nd studio album earlier this year called Heart Under.
- We highly recommend this album, getting huge numbers from the critics and fans alike. Just Mustard, Heart Under once again.
Khruangbin & Leon Bridges – Mariella
- Texas Moon EP
Bobby Oroza – Sweet Agony
- Soul crooner out of Finland Bobby Oroza was out with their 2nd career LP on June 10 via Big Crown. Get Into The Otherside is the title, and is just another brilliant bit of love from Bobby so go and give it a spin.
Dreamer Isioma – Sunset Drive
- This is from Goodnight Dreamer which is their 2nd career LP and a brilliant one at that. Based in Chicago, Dreamer Isioma has big plans moving forward so do keep an eye out.
Kurt Vile – Mount Airy Hill (Way Gone)
- This is the 3rd single from the artist’s upcoming album and as usual hits in such a great, indirect, and drawn out fashion you’re kind of wondering what happened.
- Watch My Moves by Kurt Vile dropped in mid-April!
