Full show transcript:
You did uh decorate the house uh with some fall and Halloween decorations. It looks nice.
Yeah, I'm not finished. Um, and I realized that I have a lot of stuff.
Yeah, you said uh you were missing a bin, so I got up into the attic again and found two more bins. You have like five bins of fall decorations and five bins of Christmas. We have one bin that is a combined Valentine's Day Easter, and that's it. That's like the majority of the bins up there are fall, Halloween, and Christmas.
To be fair, two of the bins are Halloween costumes. Okay, that's fair. Sure. So those aren't just decorations.
One of them is still up in the thing, and one is down though. The costumes? Yeah.
Yeah, I know. We kind of should go through those and just get rid of a bunch of them. I did. I know we did.
We decided last year on the ones we wanted to keep. We've done that process.
I know. I feel like I because you got all my bins down, and you were like, I go, I need to get rid of some of this stuff. But I was looking through it going, but I like all this stuff. Right. I know.
That's why we have 400 bins.
I am, I've already started a box of stuff I am getting rid of. Okay. So don't even print. Okay.
I'm not fretting.
What I know to be true is that the dog was involved in every step of the process.
She's a curious little bugger. And she loves to know what's in every box.
And she has to smell everything. Right. She's like, oh, I think that's for me. So anytime I brought in a box, she was like, oh, I think that's mine. Yeah. Yeah. Can I look inside? Can I smell it? Oh, I think that's mine. Right. And then if I was ever putting something somewhere, she was like, oh, I think this is mine. Yeah.
Can I have that pumpkin? That pumpkin looks like a ball. Can I have it?
Oh, that skeleton looks like mine. Right. I think this is my stuff. Did you get this stuff from me? She was heavily involved in the decorating. And by heavily involved, I mean not involved, but around. Yeah. She did nothing to assist.
What's she gonna do? Hold the other end of a garlic while you put it up.
She was She was just always underneath my feet. Yeah. Constant. I think that's why I was overstimulated at the end of the night, because I was constantly dodging a dog.
You don't want her to help out? No, she's no help.
And then I would string up some lights. She's obsessed with lights. Yeah. And so then I was stringing up some lights. And she was like, oh, I love lights. Thank you for putting these up. And then she was just looking around at all the lights and our dog is nuts. Our dog is nuts. Yep.
She's a special one, I tell you. Uh at one point you were trying to shoe her away, and you said to the dog that this task does not require her.
Dog is not required for this.
That is right. And she's like, what do you mean? Yeah. I'm right here. I'm gonna help. Yeah.
I'm gonna be involved in everything.
Can I be right where you have to step in a second?
I'll be there. Pumpkins, they're like wicker pumpkins, and there's lights in them. Yeah. So she thought she was gonna play with those, and so she kept like smacking them with her paws, and I was like, quite undoing everything.
She's a toddler. She is a toddler. Yeah.
Don't get yourself a Jack Russell, because you're just gonna be exhausted. And that Jack Russell is never gonna be exhausted. At the end of the night, we were like, aren't you tired? And she's like, No, I could still go. Do you want to like run for three miles?
Because I can do that. What else can we do? Can we do something else? That's fun.
I'm so tired.
Well, let's start today's show. All right. Good morning, Shanto. Good morning, Joshua. What's good?
Somebody asked me if I ever called you Joshua. And I said, Do you ever listen to the show? Because I call them Joshua all the time. You do.
Mostly when I'm in trouble.
No, I you weren't in trouble just then. Joshua. No, uh, that is my actual full first name. So sometimes that happens, yes.
I don't think I've ever used your full name. Like all three names? Yeah. Yeah. No.
It is a funny uh viral video trend though. Is it? Yeah, where like uh a boyfriend will be at the the girlfriend's family, like meeting the family maybe the first, second, third time or whatever. Early on. Yeah. And she'll walk in the room and she's recording and she'll say the full name.
And the family's like, uh oh, I don't know. We are out of here. Yeah. I have seen that. Yeah.
That's a fun little trend. Is it? Yeah. Okay. Sounds cute.
Oh, it is. I I mean, I I watch like one or two and then I scroll on. I don't usually get stuck in the compilations. It's not like watching people get scared.
I could watch that all day. You do that all day to me. I don't intentionally most times. There are a handful of times where I'm like, I'm gonna set this up.
There's a couple of people in the office who now know that I get scared very easily. And so they make it a mission sometimes. Right. It's not tough. No, it is.
I mean, you literally like someone could walk around the corner right now and not even make a sound. And if you saw them out of the corner of your eye, you'd go, whoa. Yeah.
That's what I tell them, because they always are so proud when they scare me. And I go, it's not this is not a badge of honor. Anyone can do this. My dog does this every day. Yeah.
I did have a coworker that uh another co-worker and I tried really hard uh to scare her. She was not a jump scare person. She was like, you had to sneak up and be like suddenly there without without her noticing. And then if you were like right there and then went, hey, that was it was over.
And it was good. But she was not into like you couldn't like poke around the corner and go, hey, it wouldn't get her. Oh, I get those all the time. So anyway. Uh what's up?
It's Thursday. Okay. So that's what I know. Okay. Well, it's Thursday. Let's do this.
Okay, let's get some good news going here. Uh 19 year old Samantha and 17 year old Kayan or Kian. Who's that? You'd say it?
K Y A N N Kai Ann. Sure. Sure. Uh, the two of them knew that they were adopted by different families, and they have enjoyed happy childhoods, even though they never met until recently. They met. Uh they're 19 and 17. The two long lost biological sisters were reunited after facing off against each other in a high school softball tournament. Oh, cool.
Right? While playing at the tournament in Montana, one of Samantha's teammates pointed out an opposing player and said, dude, Samantha, that looks exactly like you. Like that's weird. Uh, after checking the team roster, Samantha's mom spotted the girl's name, Kayan, and recognized it was the baby name given by their birth mother. And the two mothers met in the stands, compared hospital records, and confirmed this incredible match. Beyond looking alike, the sisters discovered that they both wore jersey number six. They both played the same position in volleyball and softball.
Oh, dude, that gave me too.
And apparently they have the exact same laugh. And they share the same birthday. Well, no, they're not twins.
Oh.
They're 17, they're 19 and 17.
Oh, oh, oh, oh. Okay.
So they are sisters, but they were adopted by different families. Okay.
I thought they were twins.
And now they have reconnected in a very weird happenstance of things. Isn't that fun? Yeah. Yeah. They're facing off. I didn't hear which sister's team won the game. So I'm a little bummed out about that news, but Oh. sisters. Oh. Sisters.
That's so cute. What a cute story. Yeah. So now they're going to be like buddies.
Of course they are. Oh, pen pals. Yeah. Pen pals. It's 2026. Do you want to write letters? Yeah, no, but can we like connect on socials and we'll chat? Like that. I don't know if they live in the same town. I don't know if they, you know what I mean? Like.
No, that's cute. Yeah. Anyway. That's cool. Good news. Your garden is still gardening.
It is still producing uh things. More zucchini, more summer squash, more tomatoes, more pickles, more cucumbers. I've got three pumpkins on the vine, two that are pretty orange, which I'm excited. I grew pumpkins. Grew pumpkins. Uh something we believe is acorn squash, but can't prove it because it's white. All white. And every one of them is all white.
Like an acorn squash.
I thought you looked it up. I I Google imaged it or whatever. Yeah. Uh, and um, it said it was a rare kind of uh all white, not rare. Like what's weird is the seeds that I planted for acorn squash, the picture is not white. They were supposed to be that like green color. But they're not.
Maybe somebody messed up in the seed pack in the shape.
Maybe. I don't know. And it was a new pack. It wasn't like I had like some old seeds or something. But interesting. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Well, I'm gonna cook them and see because you said you could cook them just like an acorn squash. Yeah. So I'm gonna okay.
Um, and I got what, like six or so of them? Yeah. Something like that. Yeah. That was pretty cool. That is pretty cool. Uh and then as I was looking around in the uh squash arch, there are uh a bunch of new vines that are going like all over the place. I've got vines that have gone all the way over the top and are now like headed toward the raspberries. I got vines that long. Whoa, dude. They're crazy, right? I'm getting raspberries like by the handful every couple of days.
It is still going straight.
Yeah, well, and I think what happened is the cooler temps really kind of kickstarted some stuff because everything sat in the sun just baking. And so then when the cooler temps over these past few weeks kind of happened, things started getting a little bit like, oh, I can make myself grow again.
Well, yeah. I I mean that's even happening with my flowers. I've got daisies that are my daisies bloom in July, and then they're done. But I've got daisies that are like, oh, hey. Yeah.
Which I'm excited for because I'm thinking next year, because I put in the drip system in the front flower bed. I put it into all the flower beds in the back. I'm really thinking that by the time we get to next year, your your stuff that is your perennial, uh-huh, I think is gonna go crazy because it's had really good water throughout the year, it's got access to it in the roots now more regularly. And I think you're probably like one thing with your daisies that you've said before is like why do they flower and die off?
Right. I think you might be in uh different fingers crossed for sure. Here's hoping all your bulbs up front. I bet they're doing new stuff. You won't know till the spring.
But what if you got a whole bunch? That'd be awesome, wouldn't it? I'd be stoked. Yeah, me too. We you grew snap dragons on accident. Yeah, I've got all over the place.
Voluntary snap dragons everywhere. What I think happened is they were in a pot on the porch last year. And so you think the seeds in the wind. And I dumped I think I dumped the dirt out in that flower bed. Cool. Yeah. That's what I think happened. I'd believe it. Anyway, I'm happy to have those snap dragons.
Right. And multiple different colors, too. They're super cute. Yeah. So things are happening in the garden and the yard.
It's not ready to quit anytime soon. Well. And you put I mean, you were freezing stuff last night. You were cutting and I was I was uh what's the word?
Um Prepping? processing my harvest. Yes. I was processing my harvest. Okay. Cool. I know. Uh I got to get a few supplies because I want to can some tomatoes, but that's like it's legit canning with the pot and everything. I know. I don't know about it. I'm ready. It's dangerous. Is it?
Well, they say if you use like the pressure cooker method.
I'm I'm not. I'm just doing the water bath method. Okay. You should be okay. Well, according to the recipe uh and instructions on the uh ball website. I think I'm gonna follow that, and I should be okay. Sounds good. So can up some tomatoes.
We just have so much zucchini. I you come in with more zucchini last night, and I said, You can't. We can't do any more zucchini. I can't. I can't zucchini anymore.
We have one zucchini plant, and it has probably produced 40 fruit this year. It's crazy.
I've made so many zucchini bread and so many brownies. We've given some away. We can't zucchini anymore.
It's still got like five growing right now. It's crazy out there. Anyway, yeah, the garden's still still gardening, doing its thing.
Somebody said that almond joy is an old person candy.
And I'm gonna assume you took offense. Yeah, I did. Because you love almond joy. I love Almond Joy. Why is that an old people candy? I don't know. Because it's so much coconut,
probably because it's coconut and almonds, and maybe kids don't like that.
Well, I know it's not a kid candy. I liked it as a kid. You were a weird kid.
I was a weird kid. I'm a weird adult.
I mean, No, like normally kids are like not even into Snickers until they get like oh, I'm okay with peanut. So maybe it's and chocolate.
It's the nut factor, maybe.
I don't think it's the nut. I think it's the coconut. Well, Snickers doesn't have coconut. No, I know. You just said I know. I'm saying Snickers is a gateway to almond joy. So that's what I'm saying.
I think a lot of kids are into like the sugary colorful candies, the fruit flavors, and then work their way into I'll try a three musketeer. Oh, that's good. And that's like there's no traction on that. That's just nougat and chocolate. And they're like, this is pretty good. And then they're no traction.
Yeah, there's no What's that mean? There's no roughage. That's just smooth. Nugot and chocolate. Boring. Right.
And then you go like, well, what about what else has these two things that I like in it? Oh, like a Milky Way. And then you try a Milky Way dark, and you either love it or hate it. You decide early on if you like dark chocolate or not. And maybe later on in your life you go, yeah, dark chocolate's actually pretty good. I prefer it. I like it a lot.
Well, it's healthier for you. Yeah. So as you age, your body goes, Yeah, we have shit. We need a sweet treat, but we gotta get some dark chocolate.
I don't know that I've ever uh thought about the dark chocolate as like, oh, I'm being healthy.
I said a healthier option. I understand, but I I think it just tastes good. It's never my first choice. The one with the caramel in it? I mean, yeah, I'll eat it.
It's so good. I'd rather have milk chocolate. No. Wrong.
You're wrong. I don't like milk chocolate. Do you know this about me? I do know this about you. I also know that you don't like a white chocolate. What is that flavor? White chocolate. It's gross. I like it. I don't know. I don't say no to my chocolate.
I'm picking up a theme here. I'm picking up a theme. Uh anyway. I yeah, I'm I'm pretty much uh okay with almond joy.
That's like my favorite. That's my one of my favorites.
It's it's pretty low tier for me. It's pretty low tier. The mini ones are my favorite. How do you feel about mounds? No, those aren't as good.
One, it's dark chocolate. Two, there's no nuts in it. It's not dark chocolate. Yeah, it is.
No, mounds is just an almond joy without almonds. You want to bet. I'm pretty sure they ran an entire ad campaign about how
mounds bars are made with dark chocolate.
Okay, our almond joy. Look at that. No. Look it up. Because their entire ad campaign was almond joys got nuts. And mounds don't. Other than that, they're not different. That was kind of their whole ad campaign.
Milk chocolate for Almond Joy. I knew it.
Yeah, it's a lot. It's an inferior product to Mounds, then. Rongo. But also, I don't like just a mouthful of coconut. So I'm never gonna pick it up.
That's why you put a little almond in there as a surprise. It's like a surprise treat. No, it's not. Crunchy.
Oh, it's already too crunchy.
Mmm, I love almond joy. Sometimes I buy a bag of almond joy to give out as trick-or-treaters, and my whole you guys don't like it. So then I go, Oh, all the mounds for or all the almond joys for me. Oh no.
Sometimes you buy you buy them to give them out to trick-or-treaters. Yeah. And then eat them all. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. I buy them with the intention of giving them. No, you don't.
You buy them with the intention of filling the bowl that sits on the table. So I live. And then you eat them every time you walk by. That's your intention. Yeah. Be honest. The intention is to eat them. Okay.
Look to have other old people candy. Were there's original. Love them.
Butterscotch is delicious. Black liquor is black licorice is delicious. I would have both of those before I'd have milk chocolate. Bit of honey. Love bitto honey. Good and plenty. Those are also black licorice and they're delicious. But I've found the new uh not new, uh, what's the company? Wallaby. They make a good and plenty. I like it a lot.
The strawberry candy where the wrapper or strawberry. I don't like that. It's too gooey. PB chews, which I don't even know what this is.
Is that just the like it's not saltwater taffy? It's peanut butter. Oh, maybe. That are in that like orange orange wax paper. Yeah. Do you like those? Nope.
I don't like anything on this list except for a bit of honey. Uh circus peanuts. No. Cowtails. No.
Isn't a cowtail just the inside of a butterfinger? Which by the way, butterfinger is good.
And nut rolls. No.
No, the uh the inside of the, I don't know what a cow tail is. The inside of the uh butterfinger is chicken stick or something. What? Yeah.
Cowtails are those long things. It's a long chewy caram candy stick with a soft cream setting.
Yeah, look up that chicken stick or chick stick. Oh, Chico stick. Maybe. That's the inside of a butterfinger. Yeah. Yeah. You're right about that. Right. It's a Chico stick. Sure. Chicken stick. Chico stick.
Well, you liked out of these old people candy, you know.
All of them. Except for two. Because I'm an old man.
I am not.
I know you are not an old man. Old people candy. Yes it is. Rongo. It's because of the amount of coconut.
Oh it's too much it's not enough, some might say. Who? Me. I just learned a new word for something. What is it? Well you know if you're punching a hole in something that little tiny punch out. The hole? Not the hole, the punch out. Yeah. That's called Chad.
Yeah, you I learned about this a long time ago. Did you? Yeah. When they had to recount Florida. No. And all of the ballots had the hole and the if there were a little piece of paper hanging off where people would punch their ballot, that was a hanging chad. This is a this is new news, huh?
I actually didn't know that. That's why they were called that. Yeah.
It's the little piece of paper that's left behind after you punch a hole. That's a Chad. Yeah. Good job. Good job what?
I had so many Chads last night because I was punching holes in some recipes. Oh. Trying to organize I got a question.
When you were punching the holes did it take out any of the words in the recipe? No. Are you for sure? No.
Oh no you can figure it out. I looked at some of them and the ones that I looked at were fine. I think they'll be okay. Okay. They'll be okay. We'll find out. We will find out.
But you like that organization better than uh than just loose in the pantry kicking around in a folder. Yep. Okay. I have no preference. It didn't bother me at all. But I like that it's now a binder. Yeah. Here's the thing that I noticed about all those recipes. We've been collecting them for I don't know a few years. Yeah. And it's a pretty good stack.
Well these are because we get a
yeah we have like a home delivery yeah meal food thing. Uh-huh and uh and they come with the recipes for the meals you're gonna make and we thought well we'll just save those if we want to make these meals later we'll go to the grocery store and buy the things to make these meals.
Yeah. Yeah we've been collecting those for a couple of years uh I have not once pulled out one of those recipes to remake a meal I was just thinking about that. I've I watched you sort them out uh day before yesterday you were sorting them all by like is it Italian or is it you know a Latin food?
Is it like what is it right? Is it is it rice based? Is it a uh noodle based is it chicken is it beef like you've got all these different criteria for how you've sorted out these recipes. Uh-huh now they're hole punched in a binder as of last night that's a big project.
It was a big I wasn't that big of a project. I mean it's not it took you some time it took a little bit of time.
You had to get out a three hole punch.
We had multiples of some of the food one of them was like a sun dried tomato spaghetti. Yeah that's a good one. I had like four recipes of that we like that one a lot.
Or you do because you order
them I do I really like that one. We should make that one
with the recipe or just reorder it so they send us all the stuff in the bag. Probably that right that was kind of my point is that I was looking at it in this big project that you kind of uh you know undertook and I went huh we ever gonna use those
so what are you suggesting that we just get rid of them?
I'm just saying that it was a lot of effort for something that I've never looked at since I put them in the pantry. Yeah I know I make the meal I take the recipe I put it in the folder I walk away and I I've never gone back to get a recipe
out I did because they didn't send us a recipe the other day and I said I know that we've ordered this one before and I know I have a recipe for this already. So I got it out of there. So there thank you interesting though.
Uh now how big is the binder are we talking like it's pretty thick. Well I know but do we need a bigger binder is my question. No we'll get to get like a big multi inch one. No we'll be okay for a minute. How many more? I don't know I don't a month?
Yeah sure that's like 12 No I can squeeze all kinds of stuff in a binder. Clearly you didn't know me in my school days. I did not I squeezed all kinds of stuff in there. Did you? Yeah you you know how you get to that point where you're like okay well I can't fit any more on the left hand side so I'll start putting some stuff on the right hand side.
No. And then when both your right hand side and your left hand side are full and you're just trying to close it without squeezing your fingers and making sure all the paper sits down.
Did you have papers fall out of your binder a lot of the time? Because I I feel like the way you do binders, you might have had some papers escape the three rings situation. They did.
And then they would rip and I'd have to get those whole reinforcements. Which never works. This is so much work. What would you do? Get a bigger binder.
Get a bigger binder. That's the solution. If you have too much stuff for a small binder, get a bigger binder.
This one still works. It's still fine. You've got too much. No. I have just enough.
So is that what happened where you stuff in both sides of the binder? In school? No, last night. No, it's not that full yet. It's all just on one side. No. Okay. It might be too full.
It's just no, it's not. There's there's room. There's room for more. Okay.
Well, I look forward to not touching that binder. You want to rant? I do want to rant.
Um I don't appreciate some of these businesses, these restaurants that charge you extra for toppings. Yep. And when I say charge you extra, it's like 80 cents for like a spoonful of tortilla chips. Yeah.
Not tortilla chips, like little strips. Yeah. And I got a delicious soup. Yeah. I want to have a little crunch in it. I mean, people used to give away the little oyster crackers. Why is this a big deal?
Well, and that's what I'm saying. A bag, a giant bag of tortilla strips costs what? Three bucks? Maybe. A spoonful of that is not gonna cost you 80 cents. Get out of here.
That should come with my meal. I agree. I think I think sometimes people do take advantage. And so I think if you say, hey, you get two free toppings with your soup, and then anything beyond that will cost a little bit extra. I think that's fine. Don't charge me 80 cents for each a cheese, a crispy onion, and a bacon. Because that's what they did. Okay.
Well, they charge you for every one of them. Mm-hmm. That's 80 cents. Bizarre. A piece. So you end up paying an extra 250 almost for three tops.
Plus, I would also appreciate if they would let you know that before they put it in there. So when I see those toppings out there and I go, can I have those crispy onions? And they go, oh yeah. It would be nice if they said that's gonna be 80 cents. And I go, eight cents?
You said eight cents. No, eighty. Eighty. Yeah. That happened. Take your crispy onions and go away. That was over the weekend.
And then we went somewhere last night.
And with the most expensive guacamole in the whole wide world.
What kind of avocados did you use to make that guacamole? I don't know. Fancy ones. Three bucks.
Three dollars for guacamole.
For a spoonful of guacamole.
I mean, and it's a hefty spoon, but it is certainly not an entire avocado. No.
And you get it in bulk, I'm sure of it. Of course. When you they buy it. Yeah. It's not costing them two dollars every time.
So what toppings would you be willing to pay extra for? What is acceptable?
It depends on the cost of the topping. Bacon. What am I eating? A burger. No, I don't pay for extra for that.
You're not going to pay extra for bacon on a burger.
I don't really care for bacon on a burger.
Okay, that's not the point.
Okay.
The point is, if you go to a burger place, you expect that if you add bacon, it's going to cost extra. Yes. Adding bacon costs money.
Unless I order something already on their menu that ha comes with bacon.
Which is gonna have price adjusted to compensate for the cost of bacon. Correct. Uh extra.
But that's full strips of bacon, too.
I understand.
Not just bacon crumbles. If I'm on a soup place and they're like, we got a spoonful of bacon crumbles for 80 cents. Right. Get out. Right. Get out. Yeah.
What about uh sauces? What about these guys that are like you every sauce costs 75 cents or something?
Again, I'll say you should be able to get like one or two for free with your meal. And then anything more than that will cost you extra. I say 50 to 75 cents is adequate. Fifty cents a sauce cup? Yeah.
It better be a two ouncer, not one of those little one ounce cups. Yeah, If I go through through a drive-thru and they're like, oh yeah, it's gonna be 75 cents for an additional sauce. I'm a little upset. And and look, I get like there are people that uh will be like I took a handful of sauce. I also like I went to a burger place earlier this week and had a burger, and uh I get two different sauces because they have like four different flavors of fry sauce.
Uh-huh. Then I get a spicy one and a smoky one because I like them both. So I and one I put on the burger and one I use for my tots.
Wow. I need two sauces, but they're those little one ounce cups with the little peel off lid. Do they charge you extra?
No. They just have them out so you can get them. But I'm also not going in there and grabbing a handful. And I think what happens is over time they go, it's we've got a cost discrepancy here. We've got to control the inventory on the sauce because we got too many people taking advantage. grabbing a handful.
I understand that. I understand that people do tend to take advantage. Right. I get it. But if you're gonna charge me 80 cents for a tiny spoon of it's not even a real spoon, it's plastic spoon. It's a small spoon. A plastic spoonful of tortilla strips, get out. That's 10 cents. If even. Get out.
It's a free add-on, is what it is. I'm sure you're making it up in the soup.
That's what I'm saying. Yeah, I'm sure soup doesn't cost that much to make eating.
That's what I'm saying. And you're charging $10 for the soup. Yeah. So I think you're probably gonna be okay with uh giving me some crispy onions on top. I don't think it's gonna break the bank there, $10 soup. That's what I'm saying.
That's exactly what I'm saying. All right. Ranta, all good. Yeah. For now. Okay. Where are we? What time is it? Who am I? What day is it?
It's 8 25. Well, ish.
Our daughter was at work last night, and um she came home in a little bit of a too. She had a little bit of a too. And she said immediately, do you check what time place is closed before you go in?
And then you said, yeah, usually, and she went, Yeah. And I was like, this is a dramatic situation.
She uh Yeah.
like everyone should do this.
Apparently, she has somebody that came in right before they closed, and she was not happy about it. She is one of those people though, where she will she she needs more than a half an hour to go into a store. Even if she knows exactly what she wants and she's gonna get in and get out, right? She does not like to go into a place if they're gonna close in a half an hour. She thinks that's disrespectful to the employees. Right. And I understand.
I get where she's coming from. Like I've worked in a place. You hate it when it happens. Yes, you do. Especially, I mean, if you've started your clothes like closing process. and you're And you're cleaning up, and then somebody walks in and goes, hey, and you go, like, oh, you're not even in a hurry. I'm gonna be late. Okay.
You go, hi. And then uh, do you do the thing? Uh like there's there's places in town where they put people at the door where they're like, we close in 15 minutes. Yeah, yeah, they do. These doors are shutting. You will be here all night if you're not out in 15 minutes. Um that's a good policy. I like that.
But sometimes it's a little intense.
No, I like to come in and I'm gonna go, well, I'm gonna be here for 35. So settle down. I've got a whole list. Settle down, Tony. I'm gonna be here.
I yeah, I don't I sometimes if I'm at a place and I'm there are people there and they are taking their time, like at the place where I work, yeah, and they're kind of dilly-dallying, I'll shake my keys.
Kind of that's my first step. It's real passive aggressive. It's so passive aggressive. Shake your keys like you're a janitor. What do you think?
Yeah, like I gotta mop this floor soon.
And then I will purposely like lock doors very loudly. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah.
That's that's like when you start cleaning at home and expect people to join in. Uh-huh. Nah. It's not working.
Close and cupboards really loud. You know what really works?
Walking up or or just proclaiming into a room, hey, we're getting ready to close up here in about five minutes.
Five minutes. No, I get they get 10.
I'm just saying, like I'm gonna be locking these doors in five minutes.
Yeah, but a key jangle kind of works too sometimes.
Not as effective. It's not as effective, I guess. I get you. There's no timeline.
But I usually, if it's 10 minutes, I key jangle. If they're still kind of dilly-dallying at five minutes, too.
That's no one knows your key jangle sign. Not one person.
Everyone should know the keyjangle sign. No one does.
Like, what is she entertaining a baby? What is happening right now?
If I'm jangling keys, you best believe I mean business. Watch out.
Oh, she's got her keys out. It must be time to go. I'd I would never think that. I'd be like, why is she so loud with her keys? I mean, and if somebody comes in and you're getting ready to close in like 10 or 15, I feel like there's nothing wrong with saying, hi. Hey, just a heads up, we're gonna be closing up in 15 minutes. And that just so they know, like, hey, you can do your thing, but we're gonna be closing in 15.
Yeah. I think that's an appropriate thing to say. I don't think there's anything confrontational or awkward about that. That's just business. They're not gonna be like, that woman was so rude, only giving us 15 minutes. Like, yeah, the place closes. I know.
It has a time. We have we have business hours.
I hate confronting people. And I know it doesn't even seem confrontational, but it feels like it is.
I think you're making that to be bigger than it is. I know. As I always do that. I always do that. I just I'm saying, maybe, maybe just let people know. Maybe they didn't look it up. Maybe when they walk in, you just go, hey, just so you know.
If you're getting around, I if I go anywhere, if it's close to five, I go, okay, I'm gonna check it out and see what time they close. If it's, you know, uh a different business, like a retail store, then I go, okay, it's close to seven.
What's with the stores closing at eight? What's that about? A lot of places do. But a big box store closing at eight is weird. Like, we're wrapping it up. Eight o'clock. I don't know their plan. I don't know.
I'm not in those, I'm not in those meetings.
Thankfully. Seems like a weird time to close shop. It's eight o'clock. Call it a day. I don't know. I feel like 10's more appropriate. Okay, go ahead and tell them that. You should be open until 10. Because sometimes it's 75 and I can't drive there fast enough.
They probably did the research and said nobody's coming in. It's not worth it for us to do that.
I think they just picked randomly.
I probably they probably did some research. Nah. Who would do that? Like a like a real business? Yeah. Oh. Like real places.
They might they might actually do that.
Have meetings with research? Yeah. That's smart. Don't you think? I saw something the other day and I liked it a lot. It says worrying is the worst way to use your imagination. I like that. Isn't that good? It is very good. I needed that because I do an awful lot of worrying. True story. About scenarios that are never going to happen.
You make up a lot of stuff in your head about like, well, if I if I say this, then that's gonna happen. And you have like this 70, you know, 70 piece interaction between people in your head.
Yeah. Instead of just actually having the conversation. You're like, well, if I said that, then they would say this. But what if they said that? Then I would say this. And you do a choose your own adventure for 45 minutes instead of just doing the thing. Just do the thing.
And then if I'm extra stressed about something, it is definitely a um what am I trying to say? Like I act out all these scenarios, and then when it actually happens, I go, What was I so stressed about? None of that happened.
You'll ask me, like, will I be getting ready for a thing, an MC thing, or I have like some sort of presentation or whatever. And you'll ask me, Are you nervous?
Are you are you anxious? Like, what's going on? I'm like, I'm not even thinking about it. And you're like, how? How are you not thinking about like it makes no sense? How are you not like running through this over and over and over and over in your head?
And I'm because I can't control it. I'm gonna show up, I'm gonna do the thing, and then the thing's gonna be done. That's the extent of the thing. And that's uh how my brain works.
Well, isn't that nice? No, no. I'm not trying to say I'm better or anything like that. Let's be clear. I am merely saying that when uh when you stress out and get anxiety about things and and worry and run through your mind about all the potential outcomes that could happen. I don't do that. And then you know, you see something like this that says worrying is the worst use of your imagination, which is absolutely true, because what are you worrying about? I don't know. Like you could instead, what would you use your imagination for? Art, creativity, yeah, making things, dreaming about fun things instead. Like how fun.
It's like I looked it up and it says how to redirect your imagination. All right, yeah, let's go. Flip the question. If your brain says, what if it all goes wrong? Right. Counter it by asking, What if it all goes wrong? Well, we're excited.
I know. I try to say that too. You're like, what was the worst thing that could happen? And I go, what's the best thing that could happen? What about the best thing?
But then if the best thing doesn't happen and the worst thing happens, then I'm gonna be really disappointed afterward. Are you yeah? I'll be like, the best thing didn't happen, the worst thing happened, and I didn't adequately prepare myself.
So there's another thing that's been said for a long time too that it's it's uh prepare for the worst, but hope for the best. Oh, yeah, that's been around forever. That's what I'm saying.
It's been around for a very long time. What is prepare for the worst look like to you? Because apparently it's run through the scenario sixty times. What's the situation?
I don't know. This is all uh hypothetical here. And that's maybe that's the the distaste I have for hypotheticals. It might be that it's an uncontrollable non-reality, and I go like I'll just live now. Not that I don't like pretend or you know, the fascination of it all, but uh there is definitely something there that's like what about the controllables in reality that I stick to? That's the the foundation that I go, like I I can't I can't disconnect from it to go like okay, I'm full in on this crazy scenario. It's interesting. Manilizing myself.
It's just interesting how uh our two brains are so different. How did we even get together? The way your brain operates and the way my brain operates are totally different.
But that's why, because the opposite attract thing, right? Like you're a party, a minute. I'm over here like old fuddy duddy. That's that's the difference. Like, oh, there's that old man who just sits there thinking logically and doesn't have any fun.
I know, but the weirdest part is that you're over there thinking logically, not giving a care about anything. Right. I'm over here dancing, going like anxious about everything. Yeah.
And then it's two people found each other. Isn't it a wonderful world? Wild. It is a wild place. I like it though. I wouldn't have it. I if we if we were two logics, boring. That would be crazy. Two crazies? Crazy. So it has to be this way. You stuck with me. That's fine, I guess. Well, I guess. I'm just kidding.
Okay, I saw this thing that said, I call my husband when I'm upset, and then I ask him to speak to me like my best friend, and he switches into bestie mode and he sides with everything I say. He'll say things like, girl, you deserve better. Oh boy.
I don't know if I could handle best friend mode. I'm far too like analytical on stuff.
And I also am like I'm like, why are you thinking like that? Like, just ignore that. Like that's not something that deserves your time and attention. I yeah, you do.
And that's how I give you the advice.
I know. And sometimes I just don't want that. Sometimes I really just want someone to be like, you're right. They treated you terribly. You're right. That's why I have my best friends. I guess sometimes they don't always respond right away, and I need somebody right away. And so I would like to activate a best friend.
I uh mode. I don't think I'm the guy for the job. I know you're not. Because it's just not within me to be like, you're right. That was crazy behavior. When I'm like, why are you care? They don't impact you. You're your interaction is done, and you'll never see that person again in your life. So uh move on. But I'm not the right person to be like, no, that's wild. You should feel all these emotions.
Yeah, I want that sometimes. Yeah. Okay. I guess that solves that.
It's just really outside of my comfort level comfort zone to to be that person.
I'm your I activate my best friend mode for you a lot of the time.
You do that on your own. I don't, I never am like, was it crazy that the person even looked at me and you're like, yeah, that was nuts. Like you will see something and be like, no, that person was crazy. And I'm like, I don't even, I didn't even see anything. We are not the same. You're no. I live in a little weird oblivious land uh where everybody is sunshine and rainbows, and I'm cool
with sometimes we'll have a social interaction, and then we'll walk away and I'll be like, Did you hear that tone? And you'll be like, No, what are you talking about? I'll be like, mm-mm. They had a tone. And you'll be like, I think you're just making things up. And I'm like, no way, man.
Yeah. That's what you say. I don't think I've ever heard you say, no way, man. Yeah. I'm sorry, I cannot uh activate a bad friend mode. Yeah. Just to just to agree with you for the sake of agreeing. Uh I just I I see things differently, and I have to I have to point out that like maybe they were just having a bad day, and you're like, well, now I feel bad.
So you think about things all logically and stuff.
Maybe maybe that person had a like you don't know where they came from. Like they might have just had bad news. I know. Who knows? I know, Josh. I know you know.
You're a better person than me.
We all know it. Absolutely not what I said. So I just see the world differently.
You do much differently. Yeah. Sometimes it'd be nice if you were on my side unseeing the world.
Yeah, what he said about not being on her side is crazy. Yeah. Yeah, okay. That feels awful. I don't know who we live with. We live with two children who are, you know, 17 and 21, and our 17-year-old uh started yelling help from her room. And um when I say yelling, it was help.
Help. And I thought, oh, I know this trick. Yeah, me too. I know this game. I stayed away.
Yeah. So I was like, I'm not going in there. And then come to find out there was a spider in her room that she needed help. She was trapped on her bed because the big spider was gonna get her if she got out of bed. And she's like, I need help. Kill the spider.
Here's how spider killing goes in our house. You partake none. Yeah. You don't do anything with the spider. I don't even want to look at them. Nope. You just run away. Uh I most of the time in the spider killer. And Beck just wants to save them and put them outside.
That is the that is exactly what happened last night.
And I knew when she was sit calling for help and yelling at a spider. I was busy doing something else, and I said, I can't get to that spider. I know dad's not going to. Right. So you're either on your own or your brother is gonna take that spider outside.
Right. So he shows up with a cup and paper. Of course he did. And she uh was not okay with that because she's like, I want the spider out of here now. And uh and so that's kind of what transpired, and then the spider got away, and then it was under her bed, and then she had a bit of a big issue. A little bit of a panic. A big issue about the spider still existing in her room, and then she was like, I'm never going in there, I'm gonna burn the place down.
I was already feeling a little bit overwhelmed. Yeah, and uh there was still so much that needed to be done before I went to bed, and so I just kind of ignored the situation and let everybody else handle it.
I said uh if if it's under the bed and you you need to vacuum it up, I guess, because that's gonna be the best thing. But then she didn't want to touch the vacuum after the spider was vacuumed up.
Are you kidding? She was real nervous about taking it out of her room, and then she uh had the hose attachment on the front of it, and she had to put the vacuum part back on, but she didn't want to disconnect the hose because what if the spider was still in the hose and then it's gonna get on me? And so she's she'll probably never touch the vacuum again because it's got a spider in the bag.
Did she sh did she vacuum up the spider? No. Who did? Beck. He did. Yeah. Instead of catching it and taking it outside.
He he got under the bed and he was like, I can't even fit down here. You're gonna have to do this. And she's like, I'm not doing it. And I'm standing there like, can we just do this so we can all go to bed?
Yeah, maybe you should, big tough man. I can't fit under there. I'm bigger than he is. So yeah, you used the
hose and he sucked up the spider and everything was fine in the room. Is he sure he got it? He says he got it.
He said he got it.
He said he got it. So maybe I don't know. I don't think he did. Uh he may not have.
He probably just uh did a placebo effect on it. And I went, I got it.
Yay. I thought that when I was leaving the room. I went, I wonder if he actually got the spider. But I'm not gonna say that out loud.
Nope, because we all have to go to bed at some point.
That is exactly right. And I'm not tearing apart that whole room to find the spider.
No, I just didn't have time for all the drama.
Yeah, that was the spider debacle at our house last night. It was quite the thing.
I saw myself out of it.
I wanted to see my way out of it. I didn't want to be involved. I ignored the whole thing. whole thing. I didn't need to be there. She's 17, he's 21. They can handle it.
And she came in crying in the kitchen and I went, I'm not even gonna feed into this. It's just a spider. Right. I know people are terrified of spiders, but I just couldn't. I just couldn't even. So I didn't. I wish I hadn't.
Would you rather this or that?
Would you rather be able to see ghosts or talk to ghosts?
I could see them but couldn't talk to them.
You can see them, but you can't talk to them, or you can talk to them, but you can't see them. I would rather see them. You would rather see them? Yeah. Why?
Well, then I would know they exist, and I wasn't just in my mind talking like a crazy person.
What if you were talking to them and they're like, I'm a ghost?
Oh, yes. That helps me feel not like a crazy person. I'm a ghost. That's what they say. We gotta have better conversations than that. Oh hey, hey. Like honestly, if I can't see something and I'm having a full-on conversation and no one else can hear that other person.
Yeah, but what if it was somebody that you knew? It doesn't matter.
You if I'm sitting over here having a conversation with a deceased relative, and you walk in, you're not thinking I'm actually talking to somebody. What if you just did it in private? Oh, that's healthy. I can't talk now. There's people around.
Like you're having you're having like a cup of tea with your great grandma or something. Wouldn't that be nice? Yeah, but I would rather see them. But you can't talk to them.
That's okay. We'll find ways to communicate. How? I don't know.
They don't they can't hold a pen. You can't write no. You're not gonna find ways to communicate with a I will figure it out. I'd rather talk to them.
Uh would you're gonna look like a crazy person? I don't even care about it. In private. So weird.
I'd rather talk. I'm gonna do some talking.
Do you do this already? Is this when you talking to yourself? Are you talking to people? No.
It's just Myself. I just am talking to myself. How's that going? Good so far. Oh, good. I give myself all kinds of good advice. Do you? Oh, yeah.
All right. Well, good. Good, good, good. Yeah, I'm gonna be able to see them because I think that would be so fascinating if you were like driving around and you're like, whoa, that is a ghost.
But if they you just could see them, but they're everywhere. Right. Right? So cool. Ghosts walking around everywhere. I'd be like, I take a shower in there. A ghost convention. Get out of my bathroom. Right. Ghosts.
Correct. That's shoo shoo. Shoo. You have to go away. But you can't talk to them.
You can find ways to communicate.
I will. I will find ways. Would you rather this or that?
Have you seen I didn't know that they were called this, but they call they're calling them cost goors. The first time I saw this was in a friend's house, and she had just built a house, and she could pull into her driveway, and there were two doors that open directly into her pantry, and she could just load off her groceries into her pantry.
I thought it was just called a grocery door. I've never heard it called a cost door.
They're calling them Costco doors now. Basically, they're like two by two doors cut into your garage so you can unload directly from your trunk to your house.
Yeah, often called a Costco door. Interesting. I didn't know it was called that. Um I just thought it was a grocery door. I I saw one on like a parade of homes once as well, and I thought, what a cool idea.
It is a cool idea. That you don't have to carry your bags. You can just take your car into the garage. You can unload directly into the pantry, then you can go into the pantry and put stuff away. And I think that's a really cool idea.
They're saying that it's not something that you can install in a couple hours. You have to add it in a renovation or a new build. Sure. And so a lot of builders are saying this is the newest hottest request that people want when building a new home.
I think it's really cool. I like it a lot. I do too. I mean, our house does not have the way to put it in. Nope.
Like, we don't even have a pantry. We just converted a coat closet into our pantry. Which works. Yeah. I mean, it does. It's fine. It could be better, but it's fine. It's fine.
It's just that I mean we have a house from the 70s. And it just didn't accommodate for pantries. I don't know what people did. I mean, we we took out a cupboard uh and did an open shelving thing for our dishes, so they're just out, uh, which which I like.
I'm I don't like regret that decision or anything. But then we have like a couple of cupboards. There's only really two cupboards. Three. Well, three doors, but two cupboards.
Because the one that we have all the dry foods in and the little baking one. That's it. Mm-hmm. We have like two cupboards for food. Yeah. Unless you want to get up above the fridge. What's that for?
No, nobody gets up there. You can't get up there. I don't even know what's up there. I think it might be empty. We should take those down. Let's just knock them out. Do we have cupboard up there? Yeah. Are you sure? I'm positive.
Or we don't just have that like ballast thing.
Nope. There's cupboards up there. Huh. There is. Because I've painted them. Yeah. Uh-huh. I've been up there. There's cupboards.
I kind of don't think there's cupboards up there.
There's cupboards, bro. I know.
Settle down.
Settle down. Never believe me.
I need to see a picture of our kitchen. There's cupboards. I gotta see. I I just have to look. Okay. We have the we have a camera in the kitchen still.
Yeah, I moved it, so I don't know if it's got the angle that you need. There's cupboards up there. Because I used to store stuff up there. And then I was like, one day I went up there and I went, what's even up here? Yeah, there's cupboards up there.
Don't give me that look. Like I told you there were cupboards up there. Yeah, there are. How about that? Did you know that? Mm-hmm. What's in them?
Nothing right now, I don't think.
It's a great place to hide stuff. Like what? Christmas presents. It's kind of small. Oh.
Plus, then also I'll forget that I put them there. Right.
What's in that cupboard? I gotta find out.
There's nothing up there now. I took everything out a long time ago. Huh. We gotta use that space. For what?
Storing stuff we don't use that often. Let's just get rid of it. The cupboard? Yeah. What are you gonna put there instead?
Nothing. There doesn't need to be anything up there. Nobody ever gets to it. It's the dumbest waste of space. I'm annoyed by those cupboards for some reason. I'm all hot. I know you about it. I don't know about it. Well, I'm annoyed that you didn't believe me. You've got me all riled up. What's happening?
I didn't know that. I didn't think there were cupboards up there. I thought it was just the fridge and then the ceiling. No. But apparently there's cupboards there. Mm-hmm. And nothing in them. Nope. Let's wrap up the show. You're you're clearly done.
I'm done. I'm done with this conversation. All right. For sure.
Have a great rest of your Thursday. We'll be back tomorrow on your Friday. Uh that's about it. Hey, if you've got cupboards above your fridge, maybe go see what's in them. I'm gonna do that when I get home. I'm gonna go see what's in there.
I bet there's stuff. Have a ball. I will. Have a good day. We'll see you tomorrow. Bye.
