Punchy, actionable insights and tips to make the life of the team leader a breeze.
[00:00:00] Pia: If you don't know where you're going, any way will take you there, said the Cheshire Cat in Alice in Wonderland. So how do you make your direction so clear for a team that they all follow and are eager to follow the same path? Let's build on last week's episode and look at creating a clarity that is really compelling in your team. I'm Pierre.
[00:00:24] Dan: And I'm Dan, and this is Squadify Connects.
[00:00:27] You know, building clarity sounds very straightforward, but it's much harder than we often think. Um, and there's often a really big gap between the information that's communicated and an individual's actual understanding.
[00:00:39] Pia: The Squadify data shows that there's a clarity gap in teams right now. Many team members want it, but they're not getting it. And the impact of not having clarity is showing up in the way that your work together, your engagement levels, and even perhaps if you're even thinking of leaving. So here's a pragmatic approach to make sure that your team members get the direction that they need.
[00:01:06] Dan: Clarity, if we break it down, is made up of the why, the what, the how, and the who. If we use a slightly more corporate jargon, this could be called the purpose, why the team exists, the vision, your goal, and how you measure it, the strategy, how you will achieve your vision, and then roll clarity. Who's gonna do what. Take a look at the guide in the show notes for a bit more detail on clarity.
[00:01:30] Pia: These elements need to be developed, ideally with your team. But the problems are often caused by the nature of how clarity really works, and we alluded to this before. It has these two really important parts information. What you want to actually impart and, and that can be somebody speaking or reading, but then it's how you gain the understanding. So is that information really being heard and does it make sense to the team member? And often there can be an assumption that there is full understanding, but there's a huge yawning gap.
[00:02:09] Dan: Yes, and we often then will, will try to cover that by saying, do you understand? To which most people on the planet automatically say yes even when they mean no. So checking for understanding in a bit more sophisticated way with a sort of play that back, um, type of con communication can really help to bridge the gap between that, communicate the, uh, information and understanding and save you a lot of time and hassle later.
[00:02:33] So let's get into action. This will be really worth the investment. Download the clarity on a page document from the show notes and complete what you can involve your team. Can you get them to start thinking about it and build it over time? It won't happen immediately. Yeah. Even if it takes a few weeks, you can at least start to converge on the clarity that you need together and if you can co-create it, this is when it's really powerful. [00:03:03] Pia: Time spent on co-creating clarity with your team is the absolute cornerstone of team success. The data proves this, so it's really valuable that you invest some time. Remember, all these ideas don't need to be yours, but it's your role to make sure that you have the voices from everyone in the team contributing, and he had shared clarity. In the end, next week we're gonna look at climate, so we'll see you.
