Hey everybody, and welcome to another episode of sports prep live. Sports prep live, where we unbox the bike and talk excellent in athletics.

Unknown Speaker 0:35
Welcome back to sports prep live. I'm your host, great and Prescott, we have some drama in the media going on, and from the perspective as a broadcaster myself, I'm gonna have some things to say about this. So I got my guy. KB, you already know what it is, sports prep live. Do you want to just jump right into the meat and potatoes of this, or would you rather? Jury, Jerry, okay, let's just get right into it, of course. KB, welcome to the show. Glad to be always great to have you here. Now, let's get into it. So the Dallas Cowboys have been struggling recently. Yes, they are three and three not meeting their yearly This is our year. Expectations, underwhelming, yeah. And they had a game last weekend against the Detroit Lions that didn't go very well, right? They lost that game 47 to nine drubbing. They had no touchdowns, absolute drubbing. A lot of turnovers, and it was just a bad performance altogether. They got owned in Dallas. Yes to the to the Detroit Lions. Jerry Jones goes on Dallas Cowboys radio station. For the record, that is 1053 the fan with Sean Sharif and RJ tropy,

Unknown Speaker 2:00
which he does weekly, after every game, every home game, yes,

Unknown Speaker 2:04
and they Sean, Sharif and RJ, they ask about possible shortcomings in the off season. What could have gone better for the Cowboys, sure,

Unknown Speaker 2:18
because of the expectations coming into the season, right?

Unknown Speaker 2:21
This was supposed to be a year where Dallas

Unknown Speaker 2:24
got to the playoffs, like they

Unknown Speaker 2:27
do every they get to the playoffs, won some games, right? But make it to the conference championship, make it to the Super Bowl. This was supposed to be, Oh God, it's the Cowboys year again. Now I'm no Cowboys fan. I'm not going to sit here and tell you that I ever believed in the Dallas Cowboys, sure, but I did expect them to be better than they are this year. And Jerry Jones, he had some things to say to these media personalities for their question about, you know, what went wrong in the off season? Karina, and I'm gonna quote what he said in response to their questions about the off season. Yes, he said, This is not your job. Your job isn't to let me go over all the reasons that I did something and I'm sorry that I did it. That's not your job. I'll get somebody else to ask these questions. I'm not kidding.

Unknown Speaker 3:17
Now, I heard this in in real time, and it's a lot worse than it reads. It reads poorly, but it's a lot worse than it reads. And I was happy to see which I know we're going to get into here very soon. I was happy to see the response that he got from other sports personalities, other sports analysts, journalists who have written about this, this was really a bad look for for Jerry Jones, and I think the the response that I was most proud of, the response that I think that I was most in sync with, came from Shannon Sharpe, who was, happened to be on first take with Stephen A, Jeff Saturday swagoo, and Stephen A himself, you know, he's a, he trolls the Cowboys fans, and it's meant to be, you know, all in fun. He has a really good relationship with Jerry Jones. And I think that kind of compromised a little bit of his take. I think the other guys felt like Stephen A was maybe giving Jerry the benefit of the doubt in a situation where he clearly did not deserve it. Not that Stephen A did not say, hey, Jerry was wrong. He shouldn't have done it. It was rude, so on and so forth. But what he tried to argue or to posit in his discussion of it was that, well, the only thing that I will say is maybe we don't know the background between RJ choppy, Sean Sharif and then Jerry Jones, that maybe there was some underlying tension there from past episodes. To which I say that is utterly ridiculous. If you can come on radio and threaten a man's job on air and tell him that he is going to be replaced because he wasn't asking you favorable questions, if you have the gall the audacity to do that, I guarantee you, there is nothing in the background that that person may have said to you that set you off, because that is a pure power play, that is an imbalance in the power dynamic. And Jerry took advantage of that in a way that I have not heard publicly in ages, if ever, and that's the point that Shannon Sharpe was speaking to. Shannon Sharpe said he detests what he heard, that it was repulsive, it was unprofessional, and he had no respect for the way that Jerry Jones treated these young men. And I could not agree more, Jerry Jones likes to take, and I'm paraphrasing here, but this is also, these are also my feelings, and I would imagine yours as well when you speak on it, Jerry Jones likes to take all the credit when anything goes well, on the rare occasions that it does for the Cowboys, He wants everyone to know he's in charge. He's the owner, as if we haven't known that for decades, and but when something goes poorly, when things aren't going well, Jerry Jones doesn't want to talk about it. He doesn't want to have the conversation. You're stepping out of your lane, you're talking above your pay grade, all these sorts of things. He wouldn't have done that if he were on an independent, national television program, radio show, what have you. But he knows that he employs these guys, and they do answer to him. And so you've got to think the next time they sit down with him, they are going to ask favorable questions, unless he is man enough, and I don't think he is, to come back and apologize for the way that he treated these guys. It was bad. And I encourage anybody out there who is a sports fan or who who is kind of new to this story hadn't heard about it, I encourage you to Google the Jerry Jones episode with one oh 5.3 the fan and those hosts, SHAN Sharif and RJ choppy, who were just doing their job, asking questions that we would ask if Jerry Jones were sitting right here, and for him to do what he did is absolutely egregious, Yeah. And I think a lot of the reason that this happened, you know, let's keep it a buck, you know, let's, let's talk about the elephant in the room here, Jerry Jones, since he ran Jimmie Johnson out of town, and Jimmy Johnson gave him not one, not two, but two championships and almost a third with the triplets. And, you know, the triplets are referred to as Emmett Smith, Michael Irvin and Troy Aikman. They were balling, and even had prime time in there for a spell, right? He

Unknown Speaker 8:16
came after Jimmy Johnson, and they won another one with Barry Switzer. Correct, correct is the name of that coach. So,

Unknown Speaker 8:24
but Jimmy was getting the credit for those wins, and Jerry was, quote, unquote just the owner. He didn't like that. He wanted to get the credit because Jimmy was getting a lot of praise, well deserved praise. So Jerry runs him out of town. They bring in Barry. You're right. Barry gets one, and he's gone, and they haven't really won since, because in this GM job where Jerry's wearing two hats, the owner and, of course, the GM, he doesn't appear to me to be a very good or effective GM. He has run this team into the ground. That's That's for now, you know, I'm going to give it back to you, but that's what I have to say on the mix. On the on the matter, it was egregious. He was wrong. He needs to man up and come out and apologize. It was disgusting to hear. And again, I encourage you listeners to go out there. Google this thing. Listen to it for yourself. It is worse than even we're making it out to be. And I applaud Shannon Sharpe for the things that he said about this, because I'm sure those words are gonna get back to and Swago too, who played for Dallas. Those comments are gonna get back to Jerry Jones. Yeah,

Unknown Speaker 9:33
speaking from the perspective of media personality, I don't work for Jerry Jones, right? So I don't have to try to protect my job for the likes of him. I'm just going to go ahead and say it. I have no respect for Jerry Jones whatsoever. I agree. I don't care that he owns a football team or the most valuable team in football. I don't care about any of that he won a couple. Of Super Bowls because he bought out a team that was already ready to contend. You know, he bought, he bought that team, won a couple of Super Bowls with them, didn't really do anything to the roster. Then he runs their head coach out of town, but they still have that same roster that he makes this one good move in his career, and he brings in Deion Sanders. Yes, they win another one. And then after that, since 1996 the Dallas Cowboys, the Dallas Cowboys, haven't made an NFC Championship, right, right? They have not made an NFC Championship since 1976 so I don't have respect for him as a GM, you know, first and fore, I never thought he was a good GM, but I've lost all respect for Jerry Jones as a man as well. And here's why you don't go on air, because you're in your feelings that you just lost by 38 with a roster that you constructed that's threaten another and threaten another man's job. Yes, because he's asking you, well, what went wrong? Like, what went into your Why were you thinking, Okay, this roster? Why do you want to leave the team the way it's been for the past five years, right when you haven't won anything? Why do you stay with the same team? Why were you taking so long to extend CD lamb Why were you so hesitant to extend Dak Prescott's contract? Why did you bring back Ezekiel Elliott? What are you doing with the head coach and to get out and

Unknown Speaker 11:16
this is the thing that I think he was trying to head off by being a jerk. This is the question that I think he was trying to head off. You know, who wanted to go to Dallas this past summer?

Unknown Speaker 11:25
There's a couple of guys that wanted to go to Dallas. I'll name two of them, Dante Adams and Derek and Derek

Unknown Speaker 11:32
Henry. Derek Henry is in Baltimore, bawling. Yeah, I'm

Unknown Speaker 11:37
just gonna, you know, I mean, he is absolutely I read his stats yesterday morning. He's leading the NFL and carries touchdowns and yards,

Unknown Speaker 11:48
and he wanted to go to Dallas. He has a home in Dallas. Swaggoo entered. Interviewed him on his show. He told swaggoo On Air, I'm just waiting for the call. But Jerry Jones, thinking he's smarter than he actually is, because he has a few dollars in his pocket, says, no, no, no, we've got this. He keeps Dak Prescott on a string much longer than he should have, just holding him off. Holding him off. We're going to sign him. We're going to sign him. I'm sure Dak was in his feelings a little bit, but he did end up getting his bag. But that's really the only thing that he did that was any that was of any value to the Dallas Cowboys. Jerry Jones completely flubbed his GM responsibilities this summer. And Derek Henry is Example number one, and you are right. Also about Devonte Adams. I mean, he could have had a few dogs on this squad.

Unknown Speaker 12:45
He I'll give him credit for extending CD lamb, right? That's it, right? He took care of Dak Prescott and he took care of CD lamb. Biggest contract in history for a non quarterback, $136,000,000.30 8 million guaranteed. That's never happened before, so I'll give him credit for that. Other than that, Jerry Jones as a general manager, has been a failure, and those were

Unknown Speaker 13:07
layups. Like, yeah, yeah, that would that was, like, that was the market, yeah. That's

Unknown Speaker 13:11
like, not bringing back. If the Timberwolves were like, Oh no, we don't want to bring back. Anthony Edwards, right? If the fever were like, Oh no, when you know what, we're not, we're not going to extend you, Caitlin Clark, or if the ACES were like Asia, you've been the best player in the league for a few years, but I don't think we need you anymore. That's what not signing CD lamb was. And he was on the cusp of not signing CD lamb, he held it. He, like you said, with Dak Prescott, he was playing him like a puppet. Yes, he was holding him on a string, yes, but he eventually signed him to his contract extension. But back to my Jerry Jones is a man no no respect for him whatsoever. This is a man's job. We're talking about. This is a man's family. How he puts food on the table, provides for his kids, provides for his wife, absolutely, absolutely. And you know you're on your feelings about a situation that you created,

Unknown Speaker 14:00
and you don't want to be asked about it exactly, because you know what's coming, which is why he hasn't gone on any of these national television shows. ESPN can't go on them because he knows he will get excoriated. He will be eviscerated, right? And rightly so. Yeah. Jerry Jones has been having a senior moment for 10 years now he hasn't done the job well. He needs to step aside, be the owner, like the rest of the owners, and split those responsibilities. Let the GM be the GM, and be accountable to you, but let them do their job because the decisions that they would have made. And that's what he's doing. He's chasing this glory of trying to win a championship. I got news for you. Jerry Jones, it's

Unknown Speaker 14:40
not happening. It's

Unknown Speaker 14:41
not happening. It's

Unknown Speaker 14:42
not happening. It's great. Impressed. Got here on Sports prep live, we are discussing a lot going on in the NFL, starting with Jerry Jones and his absolute debacle of an interview on 1053 the fan with Sean Sharif and RJ choppy. Staying on this point I will. Gonna you know Stephen A I'm just gonna address how he responded. I think he let Jerry off the hook. Yes, he did. He said he didn't. He said he wasn't letting Jerry off the hook, and Swago kind of got on him for it. But I think, I don't think Stephen a win in as hard as he could have, or as he should have. I've seen Stephen A go in on people you saw the way a couple of years ago, Stephen A went in on Kyrie Irving,

Unknown Speaker 15:24
absolutely,

Unknown Speaker 15:27
to the point where Kyrie Irving had to speak to Steven A Yes, and Kyrie Irving's father had to stick speak to Stephen A Smith. So we've seen Stephen A go in on people who didn't deserve that like Kyrie, okay, you're not playing. You don't want to get your vaccination, whatever. You don't go in on Kyrie that hard. He challenged him as a man, and Kyrie didn't do anything bad. He didn't do anything that affected other people, other people's jobs. All he did was say, Oh, I'm not going to play right now. And Stephen A went in on him like it was the end of the world, right? What Jerry Jones did threatens the livelihood of other men. He threatened their job, he threatened their careers. He threatened publicly,

Unknown Speaker 16:09
yeah, on air, humiliating them. And they were, you know, they in this moment, they thought he was joking. Yeah, they,

Unknown Speaker 16:18
they like, oh, somebody else to ask the question. They kind they kind of chuckled a little bit, yes. And then he says, I'm not kidding.

Unknown Speaker 16:26
I'm not joking. I'm not joking. I will get someone else in here. And

Unknown Speaker 16:29
Steve and I kind of let him off the hook. Um, you know, he said it was, you know, he said it was wrong, it was rude. He shouldn't have done that. But that's not that's not strong enough.

Unknown Speaker 16:42
But then point it to, well, maybe there's something that we don't know. Maybe there's some tension behind the scenes. I mean, come on, Steven, you know better say, yeah, there's no tension behind the scenes between a billionaire and the local radio host that he has to talk about the games, the home games, once you know they play, right? That is utterly ridiculous, yeah.

Unknown Speaker 17:04
So, you know, big shout out to, you know, you already mentioned Shannon Sharpe and swag goo. But I also want to mention Jeff Saturday went in on him too. Jeff said, Yeah, Jeff Saturday also, NFL, NFL legend, yep, played for the Colts. Was the head coach, coach for him as well. Yes, block for Peyton Manning, Jeff Saturday went in, and it was Jeff Saturday who brought up the you ran out. You ran Jimmy Johnson in town, correct for credit point. That was Jeff Saturday. Yes, it was, you know, big shout out to Jeff Saturday. I think he handled the situation very well. Swagoo as well. That's how you're supposed to respond, Jerry. Jerry was out of line way.

Unknown Speaker 17:46
And you know, one of the things Shannon said, and I stand by it, he said, If the Dallas Cowboys under Jerry Jones leadership don't ever win another playoff game, he would not be happier to have that outcome. He meaning Shannon Sharpe. That's how disgusted he was with the way that Jerry Jones treated those men, and I could not agree more he was a bully. Everyone that has heard this has lost respect for this guy, because this is how you treat people who are weaker than you, and so you've exposed yourself. And I've always felt this about Jerry Jones. Yeah,

Unknown Speaker 18:27
this has been Jerry Jones has been a bully. He's been disrespectful, right towards his employee for a long time, towards his

Unknown Speaker 18:39
players, you know, and not to get political. You know, a few years ago when Trump was president, and he said what he said about the NFL players who were taking knees and stuff, and Jerry Jones gets in there and basically tells them, you know, if you take a knee, you're fired. And then it comes out that Jerry Jones, when he was younger, was on the steps of a school that was being integrated, and he was not standing behind the kids that were trying to integrate the school. So I'll let you, I'll let you use your imagination as to which side he was on when you see something like that. That tells me and he was a young man when this happened. You know, he was young. He didn't have the Dallas Cowboys at that time, so on and so forth. But usually, character doesn't change, right? If once a bully, always a bully, once you prey on the week, you always pray on the week. And that's what Jerry Jones revealed about himself in that moment, in that interview. And everybody got to see it, yeah. And

Unknown Speaker 19:38
you know, around the Dallas Cowboys around the media, this has been known about him, yep, but you know, you didn't really have any concrete proof of it. You know that was public right now we do this is who that man is. This is who he's always been, right? And this is who he's always been. This isn't anything new,

Unknown Speaker 19:58
but that's who he is. Was just behind closed doors

Unknown Speaker 20:02
on the topic of the NFL, a little bit of Las Vegas news. The Raiders finally, yes, sir, pulled the trigger on trade to let Davante Adams go. I'm, you know, I like supporting my local Las Vegas teams, right? I like supporting, you know the aces and the Knights and the Raiders. But I'm gonna just be honest, they should have did this a long time ago. They needed to free that man. They needed to free him. No

Unknown Speaker 20:30
disrespect to the light, to the to the Raiders. They weren't going to do anything. Yeah,

Unknown Speaker 20:35
no disrespect whatsoever. We're going to do anything. They're in football purgatory right now, yes, like you're not bad enough to get the number one pick, but you're not good enough to do anything. So you know you're not going to make the playoffs, but you won't be the number one pick. They're just not bad enough for that, but they're not good enough to do anything else. So you know their offense, offensive line, terrible quarterback,

Unknown Speaker 21:02
suspect. Yes, we'll be nice. He's suspect.

Unknown Speaker 21:06
You know, Jimmy Garoppolo was here last year, and Devonte Adams was catching passes over the middle. And you know, you never do this, and they just set him up to get hit all the time. Middle linebacker just come out of his blind spot. It was every game he got hurt.

Unknown Speaker 21:25
Yeah, Las Vegas has not been he was, he's been over it for a few weeks now, probably for for a lot longer, for the season. Yeah, he's, he's been over it, and so he's off to, he's literally greener pastures. Yeah,

Unknown Speaker 21:35
he's off to, he's off to New York. New York Jets, reunited with his QB one. Aaron Rodgers, right. I'm interested to see how that goes. Now, the Jets are two and four. I had higher expectations.

Unknown Speaker 21:48
I thought a lot of people did you know?

Unknown Speaker 21:49
I thought this they were going to be better. I thought they were going to be a more imposing team. The thing is, though their games have been close because their defense is phenomenal, they have one of the best defenses in the NFL. Their offense hasn't been clicking. You know, they got a pretty they had a pretty good receiver Corp. You had Devonte Adams to this receiver Corp chemistry. Still got Breece Hall, instant chemistry, Garrett Wilson and Aaron Rodgers. Is still Aaron Rodgers, you know, he's not playing like he was in his prime, but he's still a very quarterback. Yeah?

Unknown Speaker 22:21
And he did. He didn't play last year, so he didn't get to establish that, that chemistry, but

Unknown Speaker 22:25
he hasn't like Devonte Adams. That is the player he's targeted most in his career. He's completed the most passes. I'm excited to see what I think. I think the Jets are gonna Yeah, I think the Jets are gonna have something to say. I think

Unknown Speaker 22:36
Woody Johnson is trying to win a championship this year? Yeah, because

Unknown Speaker 22:40
you're not going to have a ton of, a ton of years left with Aaron rod, right, right? He's 40. He

Unknown Speaker 22:46
said, To heck with 2025 he's trying to do the darn thing in 2024 and that's a smart play, that that's what a smart owner in GM end up doing. Yeah? Um, they make moves. Have we talked about to try to improve their roster.

Unknown Speaker 23:01
Have we talked about another GM recently? I don't ring any bells. Maybe someone's not as smart. I don't know. Yes, we have, yeah, yeah. We have somewhat, yeah, I'll leave that alone. Yeah,

Unknown Speaker 23:17
leave that one alone.

Unknown Speaker 23:18
Um, yeah, I think, I think the Jets are gonna be all right. They're in the AFC, which is tough because you got Kansas City and Baltimore to get through, and the way it looks right now, I don't think anybody's being Baltimore. Baltimore looks tough. Lamar Jackson looks like the best quarterback, looking really good. Derek Henry is the best running back in the league. Bar none beast. And could have been in Dallas. Should have been beast, but we are where we are. They didn't, they didn't want him. So you know, he's going elsewhere, and now he's contending, unlike the Cowboys, it's great. Impressed. Got here on Sports prep live. We've been discussing the NFL, got a little bit of an update on UNLV, and then we quickly have to talk WNBA to wrap this thing up. So let's start with UNLV five and one. Malik

Unknown Speaker 24:07
Williams, yeah, dude is balling,

Unknown Speaker 24:12
you know, no disrespect whatsoever. Matthew sluka is the thing to quarterbacks,

Unknown Speaker 24:17
to quarterbacks long since passed, right? Yeah,

Unknown Speaker 24:21
goodbye. Good riddance. I do.

Unknown Speaker 24:26
I bid you. I do,

Unknown Speaker 24:27
right? Yeah, we don't need you anymore. You know, we got a new toy. We got a new prospect. Hodge, Malik Williams is the truth. I think he's one of the best quarterbacks in the country. He's tough, he's efficient. He does he's efficient. He completes passes. He doesn't turn the ball over. This puts points on the board. Brother is serious business, and in the one game that they were defeated, they had 41 points. 41 points. It wasn't overtime. It was not his fault, right? They won by a field goal. He threw one interception. That game, and it was like a interception. Because, you know, if you watch the playback, it wasn't entirely his fault, right, but it was still an interception. Did it cost him the game? I don't know. There's a lot of plays you could there's always this, always the case and point to anything. It's always the case in sports where you can point to one singular place. So, yeah, he had an interception. But then you look at the stats, he completed 84% of his passes. What are you gonna do? Right? Like they played a great game. Got beat by he's played great games. Yes, plural. They just beat Utah State. Hung 50 points. Yep. Next up, they're playing Oregon State the Saturday the 19th, right? And then they welcome,

Unknown Speaker 25:42
yes, we got a Boise State, Boise State, who is ranked 15th

Unknown Speaker 25:47
in the country. Yes. And Boise State has the Derek Henry of college football right now. Okay, on Gentry, okay. And I'm talking about this dude. He's averaging 213 yards per game, uh huh. He's on pace to, I think, break the record for rushing yards in a season. Wow, he might get the touchdowns record

Unknown Speaker 26:16
I still got. How much could believe in this guy? Man, this quarterback is unbelievable.

Unknown Speaker 26:22
He's great. But man, this running back. Okay, so you know,

Unknown Speaker 26:25
the defense has got to do their job. UNLV, yeah, be ready. Be right. Both defenses have, yeah, Mr. Williams is going to be ready, no doubt about it. Yeah,

Unknown Speaker 26:34
they're not coming in with fear. So that's going to be a great game. That's on Friday, the 25th I'm going to be there. I'm sure you're going to you're absolutely and we're gonna have to lock we're gonna have a lot to talk about when it comes to that game on the other side. Yes, finally, you know, it's 627, right now at the time of this show, you know, on the air. So that means we're in the third quarter of game three of the WNBA finals. Right now, who you think is winning this series? I feel like Nafisa. I think I think Minnesota and Minnesota is going to get game game two was convincing, though it was the liberties part it was, but they needed that. Minnesota. I thought they got a little assistance. Yeah, you could tell home assistance. You could tell the WNBA did not want them to go to folks in stripes, yes, but Minnesota had their number this year, and next two games are in Minneapolis, so I'm thinking we might end up three. One Minnesota here,

Unknown Speaker 27:44
New York better not lose. They better not better not lose,

Unknown Speaker 27:47
because that's two years in a row, yeah. And this time they had home court and were the heavy

Unknown Speaker 27:51
I want them to lose, but they better not lose. I'm from New York and

Unknown Speaker 27:54
I want them to lose. So you are, yeah. Thank you everybody for tuning in to this episode of sports prep live. I'm a man Graydon Prescott.
