Hello. Hello. Hello. Good morning, everyone. Welcome back to another day, another podcast.

So I'm gonna start this one off actually with a quote that I read and I loved it. And it's on topic for this week because we spoke about this perfectionism. So it's a quote and it says, in order to go on living, one must try to escape the death involved in perfectionism. And that's a lot of you guys. You think you gotta be perfect in your nutrition and training and that's the death of you because then you never start.

Speaker 1:

And if you do start, you stop within probably three days because you haven't been perfect. You've all been in this loop and all of you can probably see where it comes from because we think, well, if I'm going to do it, I'm going to do it right and proper and done 100, but no outward change in people happens that way. It's not because someone's perfectly acting that they've achieved something, it's actually the opposite. So there's a book called The Daily Laws by Robert Green, which is good and one of the lessons for today is quite on topic as well. So the title is Change Yourself From Within Little by Little.

Speaker 1:

He says, We humans tend to fixate on what we can see with our eyes. It is the most animal part of our nature. When we look at changes in other people's lives, we see the good luck that someone had in meeting a person with all of the right connections and the funding. We see the project that brings the money and the attention. In other words, we see the visible signs of opportunity and success in our own lives, but we are grasping at an illusion.

Speaker 1:

What really allows for such dramatic changes are the things that occur inside a person, the slow accumulation of knowledge and skills, the incremental improvements in work habits, and the ability to withstand criticism. Any change in people's fortunes is merely the visible manifestation of all that deep preparation over time. By essentially ignoring this internal invisible aspect, we fail to change anything fundamental within ourselves, and so in a few years time we reach our limits. Yet again, we grow frustrated, we crave change, we grab at something quick and superficial, and we remain prisoners forever of these recurring patterns in our lives. The answer is to reverse this perspective.

Speaker 1:

Stop fixating on what other people are saying and doing. Stop fixating on the money, the connections, the outward appearance of things. Instead, look inward, focus on the smaller internal changes that lay the groundwork for a much larger change in fortune. It is the difference between grasping at an illusion and immersing yourself in reality, and reality is what will liberate and transform you. So when we look at this type of stuff, it's kind of like another quote in sports is often, if you want to be performing in front of an audience and doing an amazing performance, you've got to be doing all of the work yourself when no one's watching as well.

Speaker 1:

So a lot of people want the the outward success of stuff, but they actually are not willing to put in the work when no one's watching. And that's the most important part you're all listening to now is when you're tracking your macros, you're tracking your calories, protein, you go on your steps up, no one's there celebrating with you like an invisible audience. Some of you probably think, some people do think that. I think it's called imaginary audience syndrome. But if someone was watching you over your shoulder all the time, you probably would do more work.

Speaker 1:

Like if you're in a job and the boss is over your shoulder, you probably would do more work for that five minutes. But really what's gonna set you apart is can you do that work when actually no one is watching you, when no one is giving you praise at the moment. You're actually willing to do it because your character is there and in line with what you want to do. So tracking isn't the most luxurious thing, it isn't the most exciting thing. Doing a workout when you're not feeling great isn't the best thing sometimes, going out for your walk, getting steps up sometimes boring, it's like, oh, I've to go to do that.

Speaker 1:

That's kind of how we fall into the trap. Journaling, all these small stuff. But when you it's really interesting as well because when you see TikToks, some people's TikToks are like, I'm gutted because actually going to sleep earlier, waking up earlier, journaling, going for a walk, doing some meditation, working out actually works. You see these TikToks all the time, it's quite funny because people are like, oh, God, I wish these people were wrong about it. Because the people that do do those things try and tell everyone to do it because it's so good for them.

Speaker 1:

But we find it hard to believe sometimes because we're yeah, well, if I just did a workout, how's that going to help me mentally? My mental health is not great. I'm not working, how's working out going to help me? Well, it will help you. There's research to back this a lot, working out exercise is one of the first things that get prescribed in some countries, I think it's Canada, New Zealand, it comes to people feeling mildly depressed and stuff or anxiety, is do some exercise instead of going on medication and not to demonize medication or whatever.

Speaker 1:

But the first step is exercise, is lifestyle. But we overlook this because we think it's got to be something different. So this is a reminder today really, it's the small stuff that wins each day. And if you focus until bedtime, it's quite easy to do the focus. If you think you're one big thing, I'm going to do this today, I'm going to hit my calories, going to get my steps in, hit my protein target, drink my water, and if you've a workout lined up, you do that.

Speaker 1:

If you just focus on doing that today, it's not very overwhelming at all. But if you're thinking about I've to do four workouts, three workers a week for the next eight weeks, that's like 24 workers. I've to track for how many days, I've got to do this. It starts becoming overwhelming, you're building a mountain when really you don't need to build a mountain at all. So as Robert Green is saying here, if you're not willing to change inside, there's no outward change.

Speaker 1:

Pretty much most successful people that do seminars or teach ins and stuff will say something similar. Jim Rohn, one of the famous ones, would say, For things to change, you need to change, which is so basic. It's like, all right, Jim, mate, well done. That's so basic, but that's what works. And a lot of us overlook these things.

Speaker 1:

Of course, for things to change, you've got to change. I think Roux Mead, which is a famous philosopher, said, Yesterday I was foolish and I wanted to change the world, but today I'm wise, I will change myself. Realizing you can't really change your circumstances and all this stuff, you can do some things to change it like the job you're in, the family you have, all this type of stuff, it's not fixed because it can be changed but a lot of the stuff we have is kind of like, okay, well this is what I've got, this is the What's it called now when you do the ceramic stuff? I can't remember. The mold, I suppose.

Speaker 1:

That's what you've got to work with. And if you work with that, what you've got as opposed to what you wish you had, you're actually gonna make some changes. So have a think about that today. Have a think about those quotes. Have a think about Jim Rohn.

And there's another really good video actually of Tony Robbins speaking to Theo Vaughn. So Tony Robbins actually was Jim Rohn's student, and Tony Robbins is asking Theo Vaughn to look around the room and to think of all the red stuff in the room and then he asked him a question and said, Okay, you had to look around the room for the red stuff. And then he goes, Yeah. And he goes, Okay, how many brown stuff's in the room? And Theo Von said, I don't know because you're only focusing on the red because that's what you're looking for.

Speaker 1:

And then he asked him to go and find all the brown stuff or the beige stuff. And then he does it. And then Tony Robbins says to him, How many brown stuff did you find and how many similar kind of brown stuff did you find and you kind of wanted it to be true, so you kind of took a light, like a cream and said that was brown, or a beige and said that was brown, and said, Yeah, did a lot of that as well. She said, Exactly. So what you're focusing on, you kind of make a reality and all this stuff.

Speaker 1:

And it's kind of that cheesy American motivational stuff, but there's definitely a truth to it because Jim Rohn's mentor himself did the same analogy to him about if you want to buy a red Ferrari for example or a red Ford at the time or whatever it was, you start seeing that car everywhere. It's not that you have manifested more of these into existence, it's just that whatever you focus on you pay attention to. Tony Robbins would famously say wherever your attention goes, energy flows. So you've got these things where really what you're going to be focusing on ends up being what you see and what you want to improve on. So if you're focusing on an end result right now on this challenge or if you're just tracking to lose weight and you're focusing on need abs, any this and that as opposed to the small incremental changes you should do every day.

If you're focusing on those end results now, you're not going to get it, you're to get frustrated, you're going to have this perfectionism, you're going to abs yet and listen, I'm not having changes fast enough. It's not about that. So focus on the small stuff because they are the big stuff. Another corporate gym run, don't major in the minor things. A lot of people do that.

Speaker 1:

Focus on the wrong stuff. Focus on what matters today and it makes life a lot easier. Calories, protein steps, if you've got a workout, smile shit, drink your water, key steps and all the basic stuff and this is what will change your life. I promise you if you do it for long enough you'll realize it is and then you'll become one of those really really annoying people that will tell everyone to do it and they'll like no it's not true but it is.
