What is Squadify Connects?

Punchy, actionable insights and tips to make the life of the team leader a breeze.

[00:00:00] Pia: Hybrid work can be exhausting at times with fatigue and burnout are two big factors to manage. So today we conclude our series on leading in Hybrid by going back to you and making sure you are looking after number one okay. I'm Pia.

[00:00:15] Dan: And I'm Dan, and this is Squadify Connects.

[00:00:18] Back in 2000, Jack Groppel and Bob Andelman wrote a book called The Corporate Athlete. Now, that was a while ago, but it's actually stood the test of time, but with an additional twist today, social media, multiple communication channels are global workforce, et cetera, they're all fighting for your attention, so it's even harder to keep yourself focused.

[00:00:40] Pia: So this means that you need to be conscious of where you place that attention of yours to order to maintain peak performance. But also note, this doesn't mean you have to be athletic. It's just that like an athlete, you need to recognize that peak condition doesn't happen by accident. And given that you probably spend more time working every week than an Olympic swimmer spends in the pool, it's really worth thinking about.

[00:01:06] Dan: Yeah, and the book, the Corporate Athlete defines four areas that we need to focus on. First of all is physical energy. It's at the sort of base of the pyramid. This is how you look after your body, through sleep, exercise, and diet.

[00:01:19] Pia: Secondly, emotional energy. Maintain the awareness of your emotional state and taking positive steps to keep things in good shape. This can be highly impacted by your physical energy. And then next is mental energy. This is about how you manage tasks and take breaks, but these days it's hugely important that you choose where to place your focus.

[00:01:42] Social media can be really distracting and in some cases quite damaging, but our inbox can also impact our focus. Make smart choices on where you put your mental attention.

[00:01:54] Dan: And fourth and finally is spiritual focus. This is about maintaining your sense of purpose and an excitement about what you do, and crucially why you do it. And that can be a challenge sometimes, right?

[00:02:07] Pia: this is a week for you to take time for yourself. We'd advise for you to book a few hours out over the week to look at each of these elements, physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual energy, and do a quick inventory. How are you doing on each of them? And what would you tweak to improve things to sustain your performance?

[00:02:29] Remember a few things we've learned. Your context environment make a huge difference to get the right people and things around you. Secondly, think small steps. Don't try to solve everything in one go. Make sure you have a way to check in on your new habits. Have a great week. Setting yourself up for success.
