This goes back to a whole piece of Dutch history that not everyone knows about. In this episode, Tom, Julia and I talk about what happened and why this apology matters. Rick: Welcome to Dutch Dialogues by Dutch Fluency! I'm Rick, and today Tom, Julia and I are sitting in a cozy café talking about something that might seem a bit technical, but trust me, it matters more than you think. Let's dive in and see what they have to say!
Rick: Hé, moet je horen. Ik lees net iets op NOS.
Tom: Oh nee. Rick heeft weer de hele NOS gelezen.
Rick: *lacht* Nee joh, wacht even. Dit is echt interessant.
Julia: Jouw tweede koffie al? En dan nóg meer nieuws?
Rick: Dit is mijn derde. Maar dat is niet het punt.
Tom: Oké oké, wat dan?
Rick: Dus Van Agt, de oud-premier, die vraagt de koning om excuses te maken. Aan de Molukkers in Nederland.
Julia: Oh. Dat is serieus, zeg.
Tom: Wacht, Van Agt... was dat niet die premier van vroeger?
Rick: Ja, precies. Die was premier in de jaren zeventig.
Julia: Mm-hmm. En waarom de Molukkers?
Rick: Nou, de Molukkers kwamen naar Nederland omdat ze voor Nederland vochten. Maar toen was het niet goed voor ze.
Tom: Oké. En nu wil Van Agt dat de koning sorry zegt?
Rick: Ja! Maar Van Agt is al dood, want hij ging vorig jaar weg.
Julia: Oh. Dus dit was een brief van vroeger?
Rick: Ja, precies. Een oude brief. En nu komt die brief naar buiten.
Tom: Gek hè? Een brief na zijn dood.
Rick: Typisch Nederland weer. Altijd een brief.
Julia: *lacht* Waarom een brief? Waarom niet gewoon bellen?
Rick: Tja, dat is de vraag.
Tom: Maar serieus, is dit niet belangrijk? Excuses zijn toch goed?
Julia: Ja, excuses zijn goed. Maar waarom duurt het zo lang?
Rick: Dat is precies het punt! De Molukkers wachten al heel lang.
Tom: Hoelang dan?
Rick: Uhm... tachtig jaar? Zoiets.
Julia: Tachtig jaar! Dat is lang, zeg.
Tom: Ja maar, de koning kan toch gewoon sorry zeggen?
Rick: Nou ja, het is niet zo simpel. Want het is ook politiek.
Julia: Klopt. Het is altijd politiek.
Rick: De comments op NU.nl zijn trouwens nog erger.
Tom: Haha, wat zeggen die mensen?
Rick: De ene helft zegt "doe die excuses". De andere helft zegt "waarom nu nog?".
Julia: Tja, dat is Nederland. Altijd twee kampen.
Tom: En jij? Wat vind jij?
Rick: Ik vind... excuses zijn goed. Maar dan moet er ook iets veranderen, want anders is het een leeg woord.
Julia: Ja, precies. Woorden zonder actie zijn niks.
Tom: Mm-hmm. Snap ik.
Rick: Maar goed, het is wel goed dat mensen dit nu lezen.
Tom: Dus Van Agt was eigenlijk best aardig?
Rick: Tja... hij deed ook foute dingen. Maar dit was goed van hem.
Julia: Hoe dan ook, het is interessant.
Tom: Ja. En jij leest dit allemaal op je telefoon in het café.
Rick: *lacht* Iemand moet het nieuws lezen!
Julia: Ja, en dat is altijd Rick.
Rick: Jullie zijn blij met mij, geef maar toe.
Tom: Nou ja... soms.
Julia: Soms. Bestel nog een koffie, Rick.
Rick: Mijn vierde? Goed idee.
