Embracing the underdog mentality can be one of the most powerful tools for achieving success in life.
It's about believing in yourself, your abilities, and your potential, despite the odds being against you.
Let's be honest: building a company from nothing is incredibly hard. It has been for me. I started my entrepreneurial journey at age 8. Yep, you read that right....8! Since then, I've started, run and sold multiple businesses with no partners and no funding. All my life I've had to build something from nothing, and that's what I've gotten really great at - tenacious, creative and extremely smart strategy coupled with hard work. Welcome to The Do What Is Necessary podcast—I’m your host, Andrew Moon.
Listen in as I share all the mistakes I’ve made and, more importantly, what I’ve learned from them, with no fluff, and no rose-colored glasses. The Do What Is Necessary Podcast is a show where we cut through the toxic hustle and grind mindset and dig into what it actually takes to start and grow a “calm business”. Calm is family first. Calm is more independence. Calm is sustainable practices for the long term. Calm is joyful. Running a calm company is a choice.
I’ll be giving unfiltered advice every week, 10 minutes per episode each. I want you to walk away from this podcast with the mindset and tools you need to be successful.
This podcast is for entrepreneurs, side hustlers, and busy professionals with a short attention span (like me)—you’ll get quick-hitting, actionable information in every single episode. If you give me your time, I promise it won't be wasted. Now let's get to work!
We're going to get a little
inspiration on this podcast.
Uh, because this is a topic that
is near and dear to my heart.
And as I see entrepreneurs and
business owners and people trying
to start businesses, And people just
in general, struggling with life.
This podcast episode, hopefully.
We'll allow you to see that
you have the potential.
And that if you embrace being an
underdog, It can be super powerful.
And I can speak from
personal experience on this.
I was bullied as a young kid and
in grade school and middle school.
I knew what it was like to be an underdog.
I knew what it was like to be
punched in the face, punched
in the gut, knocked down.
But I also knew and develop that mentality
of being the underdog was not a bad thing.
I embraced it.
Being an underdog and embracing
that mentality is about believing in
yourself, believing in your abilities.
Believing in your potential.
Despite the odds against you.
Whether you're a student, an
entrepreneur, somebody who's
thinking about being an entrepreneur.
Or just someone looking to make a
change in the world, understanding
and embracing the underdog mentality
can help you overcome obstacles.
And achieve your goals, your dreams.
One of the biggest advantages of
embracing the underdog mentality.
Is that it gives you a sense of
resilience and determination.
When you view yourself as the
underdog, you're more likely to
push through difficult times.
And you're more likely to get
back up when things get tough.
This can be especially important
if you're trying to achieve a
goal, that seems impossible.
Or when you are reaching.
Unexpected obstacles
that seem insurmountable.
When you embrace the underdog
mentality, you're telling yourself
that you're not going to let
anything or anyone stand in your way.
And you're going to keep
pushing forward no matter what.
Another advantage of embracing
the underdog mentality.
Is that it can help you
stay focused and motivated.
And that is especially
important when times are tough.
When times are unexpected
when times are uncertain.
When you view yourself as an underdog.
You're more likely to stay
focused on your goals.
And to keep pushing ahead, pushing
yourself forward to achieve them.
No matter what's going on around you.
This is especially important.
If you're working on a longterm
project, or more importantly, if
you're trying to start a business
or trying to build a business, When
you're focused on your goals, you're
less likely to get sidetracked.
Or give up when things get tough.
And running a business.
I can guarantee you things are
going to get tough at times.
Instead of giving up, we're
going to keep pushing forward.
We're going to keep
working towards our goals.
No matter what things are thrown at us.
Embracing the underdog mentality can also
help you develop a sense of humility.
In a willingness to learn.
The humility part is something that I
neglected for a large portion of my life.
And coming up on 50 years old,
I wish I would have learned
humility a long time ago.
When you view yourself as an
underdog, you're more likely
to be open to new ideas.
And to be willing to learn from others.
This is especially important
when you're working.
In a field that's constantly evolving.
Or you're going through a pandemic,
which are, none of us were
expecting when we get thrown a loop
on, we get thrown a curve ball.
That's when being an underdog
and viewing yourself as an
underdog can be super important.
But when you're humble and
you're open to learning.
You're more likely to be able to
adapt in those challenging situations.
You're more likely to be able to adapt to
change as the world around you changes.
Lastly, embracing the underdog mentality.
Can help you build stronger
relationships with others.
Because at the end of the day, it is about
the relationships that we develop in life.
When you view yourself as in the
underdog, you're more likely to
be humble, to be open to feedback.
And to be willing to
collaborate with others.
This is especially true.
If you're trying to build
a team inside your company.
Or you're trying to build a community,
whether that's online or in real life.
When you're humble and open to feedback.
People are more likely to be willing to
help you and support you on your journey.
But embracing the underdog mentality is
not just about facing external obstacles.
It's about facing our
own internal obstacles.
Our own demons.
It's about believing in ourselves.
Despite the doubts that we have.
It's about believing in ourselves,
despite the insecurities
that we have about ourselves.
Insecurities that we have may
have carried on for decades.
It's also not about allowing
our past failures to define
us or her future potential.
When we embrace the underdog mentality,
we're telling ourselves that we're
not going to let our past failures.
Hold us back.
We're not going to let what people
did to us in the past, prevent
us from keeping to push forward
and to work towards our goals.
In conclusion, embracing
the underdog mentality.
As I hope that you have felt
from this podcast episode can be
a powerful tool for achieving.
Your success, your dreams.
The underdog mentality
gives you the resilience.
Determination.
Focus.
Humility and, and the ability to build
strong relationships that we all need.
To overcome obstacles
and achieve our goals.
So the next time you find yourself in a
difficult situation, the next time you get
punched in the face or take a gut punch.
And get knocked down.
Remember that you are an underdog.
And that is exactly where your power lies.
Believe in yourself.
Believe in your abilities.
Believe in your potential and you
will be able to achieve anything.
You set your mind to.
If you're a fellow underdog like me.
Or there's any tips that you wouldn't
like to share as being an underdog?

As always stay humble and kind
and always do what is necessary.
