Bottle of water. Let's see what's happening. Spring wheat $5.15 a bushel. Right straight out of Chris's mouth at Columbia Grain in Harlem.
OK Solberg:Now please sit down for this next one, a 550lb steer calf. I kid you not. Last week, I was rejoicing and saying how high it was at $4.41 Guess what? $4.78 Are you kidding me? Yes, sir. I looked it up myself. Pays in Billings, 18 head weighing 548lbs and it brought $4.78/50 Are you kidding me? It just keeps going higher and higher.
OK Solberg:A butcher hog in Iowa will bring you a .69/50 and that's right straight out of Katie's mouth in Spencer, Iowa. 317lb butcher hog .69/50 and a 100lb fat lamb in Billings stand right where they were. $2 and a penny. But guys, there's more, much more.
OK Solberg:Okay. Like I said, it's a new week. And with the new week, let's have some new news. Did you realize that Orvin doesn't just live in the past? I know it's important to stay in touch with current events.
OK Solberg:Oh, which of course reminds me of a story. I flash back to Mr. Douglas's geography class, Malta junior high class in the 1970. Mr. Douglas included in this class a segment where the class members could share current events. Anyway, it was a Monday morning. I just rode the school bus in for over 30 miles and stop after stop after stop, like the Fuehrs and Salisbury's and Kindles and Stiles and Flatlands and others.
OK Solberg:My current event would have been the bus ride was long and noisy and fun. Those students that rode our bus were like family. Shoot. We saw them five days a week. But, anyway, on that Monday morning, 10/05/1970, exactly fifty five years and one day ago, Kari Totman raised her hand when called upon for a current event, and she said, Janice Joplin died last night.
OK Solberg:Guys, I was stunned. I wondered how a classmate of mine could possibly have her pulse on America like Kari did. I sat there in a daze, then I thought a little further and my next question in my mind was, I wonder who Janice Joplin is. So from that day forward and even forevermore, I decided to be up on current events. So did you realize that currently tonight, 10/06/2025, is the harvest supermoon?
OK Solberg:Yes, sir. Tonight. And it's reported that also this month, there will be meteor showers. So keep your eye to the sky, especially after sundown. Also, did you realize that a new boron rich compound has been developed which is a new high energy rocket fuel?
OK Solberg:Bet you didn't know that. It's true. It has a 150% more energy than conventional solid rocket fuels and it's much more stable until it's ignited. Now I mentioned earlier meteor showers later this month. But did you realize two bright comets will be visible in some locations?
OK Solberg:You heard me right. Two of them. Comet C2025R2 and comet C2025A6. You're doing good on your current events. Oh, and did you realize that on Friday, October 3, an asteroid, that's just a couple days ago, an asteroid that measured 44 feet across passed by Earth without damage, and it went by at 36,000 miles per hour.
OK Solberg:Also in the current news, a Japanese spacecraft that will be unmanned will deliver supplies to the International Space Station. When's that gonna happen? It will launch on Tuesday, October 21, just three days before the World Series start. Now since we're discussing current events, I have to tell you, I fell behind on this one. Did you realize back in 2023, Major League Baseball incorporated a new rule to speed up the game?
OK Solberg:And it it wasn't the pitch clock. It was another one. And this rule states that when teams go into extra innings, either team gets to start the inning with a runner on second base. Oh, yeah. It's true.
OK Solberg:And I just found out about it, but we gotta report the news. It is officially called the automatic runner rule, but you'll hear it called the ghost runner rule or Manford man rule. But here's the caveat. It's not enforced during the postseason. So with the playoffs happening now, you will not see it happen.
OK Solberg:Just thought you should know it is rather interesting. So if you're going into the tenth inning in regular season, a team automatically places a runner on second base. That way even if there's a good base hit, a runner will score. You don't have to like it. It's okay if you do like it.
OK Solberg:It's just a fact, but not enforced during the post season. It's fun to know the things that are happening around us even if you don't care about the game. Oh, if you don't care for baseball, I'll pray for you. Go Dodgers.
OK Solberg:Oh, which reminds me, I need a Bible verse. Psalm 4:1 answer me when I call, oh God, of my righteousness. You have given me relief when I was in distress. Be gracious to me and hear my prayer. So until next time, as you go out there, remember now, don't be bitter.
