Full show transcript:

Halloween is uh what a week, two weeks, 17 days, 17 days away. Okay. Uh and I feel like my uh Halloween decoration game is weak compared to some people. I know. I just sent you a video I saw on Facebook, this guy, Edgar Escobar. He has done a projection on his home of Ghostbusters, and it is spectacular.

It really is. He's got slime, he's got marshmallow man, he's got the Ecto 1. He's got a lot going on, and it is so cool, this projection. Um I really like this is kind of a nerdy little thing that I'm kind of interested in, but projection mapping kind of is like an exciting thing to me.

What do you mean?

So project you take your projector, and in projection mapping, you can basically take the shape of anything. This guy in the shape of his house, for example, and he's drawn out like where the projector displays and where it doesn't display. And uh and anyway, it's so cool. He's got he's got the sound going and stuff, but the like the this the slime like oozing off the roof is so cool. Uh slimers in there, and it's the whole thing. It is blown away. I'm super super like I could do better. I could figure this out.

Hey, our decoration game is on point. I put some spooky bones in the flower pots. Spooky bones.

Whoa, watch out for the spooky bones. I don't want like animatronics or inflatables or whatever in the yard. Like I think those are fine. Like people love them, and that's cool. But I think something like this is way cooler. I agree.

Way and plus it's easier to store. Yeah, it's just a project. I don't want animatronics or blow up stuff because that's something large that you have to store. Right.

I love the 12-foot skeleton that I have to keep in my garage. Exactly. 11 months of the year, except for the one month that's not in my garage. Exactly. Yeah. Nah, I get you. Anyway, I think I can do better. That guy's spooky bones. Spooky bones. Woo! Don't come to our house. We've got three plastic bones in a flower pot.

No, there's more than that because there's two feet, there's two hands, there's a skull, there's a spinal column, there's a femur. There's at least 10 spookies.

spooky bones. That's seven. You named seven. There's seven plastic bones in the garden.

It's spooky. I did good. Our house is spooky. Yeah, it is.

Because of plastic bones. All right. Well, let's start today's show. Hi. Oh, what's up, buddy? Hey, uh nothing. It's blanket day. I know that. Blanket day? Yeah. What's that mean? Today's the day that I get to go hang out with Saranoni blankets. Oh, dude. So noon to two. I'm uh I'm broadcasting live at the Brickyard Event Center. We have a couple of these blankets, and these blankets are on blankets.

They are so sad.

And so this morning, I think at like 10 o'clock is when they open up. I've got to double check that uh for the Saranoni event. It's an event. Yes, it is. Uh it's uh it's a big deal. If and you haven't been.

I have not. Uh, but there's a line out the door uh when this when this thing opens up uh because there's crazy discounts uh on this. Yeah, it starts at 10 o'clock this morning. Discounts up to 70% off.

These oh, seriously?

Holy deep discounts.

It's those blankets are the softest blankets I've ever softed. I know. I know.

Anyway, that's at the Brickyard Event Center in Ammon. Uh coming up this morning, 10 a.m. they open up. I'm gonna be there from noon until two. Uh, and uh they're they're awesome. So if you're uh into it and you want to check out these blankets, if you've been before, you already know.

If you haven't, you gotta come check it out. I'm talking about like people dragging around bags and bags of blankets. It's unreal. Uh it's a great gift idea. It's all it's blanket day. It's 70% off. I know. Sheesh.

I know, isn't that crazy? And they have baby blankets and they have the throws that we use and love. I love the weight of them. They're so soft.

They have bedding too. I don't know if Yeah. I know. I know.

I haven't looked at the whole thing. Like they've got a ton of stuff. The place gets filled up, and then quickly, as bags fill up. It gets empty. Stuff gets marched out of there. Yeah. Anyway, pretty cool. It is pretty cool. So uh what's going on in your day? Um I've got blanket day going on.

I don't have blanket day going on, sadly.

Yeah, you gotta work both jobs. How'd it go yesterday? Oh. Oh. Ugh.

I hate. Ugh. my coworkers give me such grief because I complain about being at work. And it's not that I don't like my job. I do like my jobs, but guess what? It is a job. It is a means to an end.

Right. And they're like, Well, you just don't like your job. I'm like, I do like my job. I like working with the people that I do. Yeah. But I also just like not working.

I mean, doesn't everybody I mean, haven't you tried staying home? I think there are different degrees. It's a spectrum, as most things are. I think there are people who are like, I gotta get out of this house. I might as well go to work. Might as well go do something.

I'm good at and I like. Yeah. Yeah. Early in the morning. And then all day.

And then five days in a row. I get it. Oh. Oh.

Uh well, you got more of that to look forward to today. Sure do. I sure do. Yeah. And within 12 hours, less than 12 hours from now, you'll be home.

That seems so far away. Why'd you have to say it like that?

Less than 11 hours from now, you'll be home.

It's so long. And so long. 11 hours. Look. It's all right. We'll get through it. Hey, we're gonna get through it together, guys. Okay. Let's get through this together. Let's get together. Is that Is that parent trap? Yeah, good job. Yeah.

Here is your good news for today. Uh, you know those tiny little battery-powered toy cars and trucks that kind of drive around the driveway or the yard like the power wheels. Yeah, those things. Uh, so there's a guy in Ohio who's using his handyman skills, skills, uh, skills to fix these up so he can donate them to local families.

Uh so a lot of these things uh over the years have ended up in thrift shops and you know, they're headed to the dump and stuff like that. And so it started as this little small backyard project for this guy named Anthony Beck, and it quickly grew into a big time community mission after neighbors began dropping off dozens of these broken down power wheels. And Anthony spends about power wheel. He spends about four days and 50 bucks on each ride, uh, replacing old parts. He builds custom controls uh for kids that maybe have mobility challenges and stuff, okay, so that they can enjoy them as well.

And so far, he has fixed up and donated over a dozen of these things, giving back uh these broken toys uh to uh kids that puts a smile on their face. I mean, everybody wanted one of these things. Oh, yeah. I mean, did you ever have one? No, I didn't either. No one's too poor.

Oh the hobby was kind of a good thing for you know, just built up anxiety and nervous energy or whatever he said, and to be able to do something that feels accomplished to me and help families is amazing. And I get that. I mean, I work in an intangible business, and so to build something tangible and be able to help the community like that, kind of a fun thing. That's cool.

Uh yeah, so it takes him you know, four days and fifty bucks per ride, but he's put out a dozen of these things already, and he's got more on the way.

That's awesome. Good job, buddy. Yeah, put your skills to use. Skills, skills, skills.

It's good news.

Tell me about your dude plans this weekend. I don't know. I don't know.

Uh our nephew has uh invited uh us to his baby's one year birthday party. Very exciting. Yeah, that plan's in place. So that's cool. I'm excited to go uh and celebrate a one-year-old.

Let's go. I mean, it's a big deal. It's the first birthday.

I think it's huge. And that's today, right? Today's a birthday.

Yes. Well, happy birthday, Kate. Uh so that's cool. Uh, but here's uh here's the thing.

Uh we there wasn't a text sent that said, hey, and this was sent to uh your brother-in-law and uh from your nephew to me and your brother-in-law, and said, Hey, you guys wanna go do some rock crawling on Sunday morning? And uh, which sounds awesome. We've got RC rock crawlers. I don't know where we're gonna go.

Like I I said, yeah, I can totally bring stuff, you bet. And uh and his dad, your brother-in-law, is like, yeah. That that was it. That's just yeah. And and I said, Yeah, I'll bring stuff. And then uh he replied, sweet. So I don't know.

You don't know the plan. I don't know where we're going.

I don't know what time. I all of that will get ironed out. I know I'm taking stuff to uh to do rock crawling, but that's the extent of what I know.

How come that is just like that? Is the dude way though? The dude way is to be like, hey, let's go do this thing. You want to go do this thing? Yeah. Yeah, I do. Yeah, I'll bring supplies. Sweet. Awesome.

The rest of it we'll figure out on Saturday night or something. But I'm I'm excited because I haven't done the rock crawling thing in a minute. That's true. You'll have to get your car. I just have to make sure my batteries are charged. I'm good to go.

Um, okay, but you're going you're going fishing today with the dudes.

Well, uh, that's tentative. Okay. I am prepared. Again, I'm prepared in the event that fishing does occur. I am ready.

It's more of a plan, right?

Not necessarily. Okay. It it could be today, it could be tomorrow.

Okay. Why can't it be both?

Why can't it be? I mean, why why not? Uh and I did tie up some new flies uh yesterday after work because I wanted to be prepared. How exciting. Uh very exciting. So I tied up uh six brand new flies. I'm ready to fish with. Okay. And uh and see if I can catch something.

Good job. Nice job.

Maybe today, maybe tomorrow. I don't know.

At least today's plan. You know what time approximately. You know where. Yes. Approximately. Sure. You have more of a plan in place for today's dude plan. Okay. Right? I mean, not really. Oh, okay.

It's it literally is like a hey, if it happens, I'll give you a shout. Okay. And I went, okay. So I'm just prepared for the shout to come in that says, yeah, let's do this. And then uh like yesterday was really there wasn't there was like no wind. It was overcast, the temperature felt right.

Like yesterday would have been a great day for it. Why didn't you go? I just it wasn't on the agenda. I didn't have the flies I needed. I had to tie those. I but now you I turned on a river runs through it, and I sat at my uh tying table tying flies. It was it was a nice little afternoon.

I came home from work yesterday and I said hi to Emory, asked about our day, and then I said, Where's dad? She goes, Time flies, and I go, What? I go, where's dad? And she said, Time flies. I does what does that mean?

What do you mean was that mean? She it sounded like she was saying tying flies, but to me it sounded like she was saying time flies. Time flies. Time flies. Time flies. I said I just said, stop saying that. Why are you saying that? And she goes, What do you mean? I go, where's Dad? And she goes, tying flies. Yeah, and then it clicked. Time flies. What?

Even when you said time flies here, I thought you were saying tying flies. I never heard time flies until you really enunciated it. Time flies. Time flies. Yeah.

Stop saying that. Time flies. She had been taking a nap and I had woken her up and said then when I said

Yeah, she said she was pretty beat.

Where's Dad? Time flies. And I go, Yeah, I bet it does when you're taking a nap. Where's Dad? Time flies. Time flies. Yep. I I remember you said that. And then I responded.

Yeah, I was downstairs watching a river runs through it and tying flies.

That movie's a little bit depressing.

Well, I didn't finish it. I just barely got to uh to the end of college. Mormon comes home. That's where I'm at. That's all. You know that that's uh what did I tell you?

30 years old, the book? Yeah. Yeah. You gotta read the book. I know I do. You might like the book. I don't have the book.

Let's get you the book. I'll put it on a list. You put it on a list. As you said, I'll put it on a list. I will put it on a list. You might need to get your ears checked. Time flies.

We were driving yesterday and you got a text message, and you go, oh man, everyone's gonna be there. And I was like, what are you talking about?

Well, there's this big uh this big gathering this weekend, and we're going out you know, out of town to this birthday party. And so uh and rock crawling adventure and all that stuff. So that's you know, we got plans. We do have plans, and uh and we're gonna have our own fun. Right. There just happens to be a large gathering happening

that we were invited to that we can't go. Right.

And everybody that I see responding, I'm like, I haven't seen them in forever, I haven't seen them in forever. I'm seeing them in forever. And I'm like, man. So I am having a little bit of uh of that missing out feeling because we're gonna be unable to be there. And you're like, you could just stay. You don't have to go to the birth true. And I'm like, what do you mean? I'm just I don't know.

I don't know what I mean. You can stay. No. I am kind of got the FOMO too. Well, I always have FOMO. I don't like when people do stuff without me. I don't like it.

I mean, if I went to a store and had a cookie, you'd be like, well, I wanted to go. Yeah.

Yes.

Like, it wasn't a big deal. Like I went to the store and had a cookie. And you're like, I don't even want to go to the store. I just want a cookies.

I just want to hang out with everybody.

I just want to be there with The cookie party part.

Whenever you go out with anybody, I go, What did you guys talk about? Nothing. Nothing exciting. Yes, you did. What happened? Tell me everything. Tell me everything you know.

Just put me on speakerphone while you're there.

Relax. I don't like not knowing what's happening. So yeah, I got a little bit of FOMO from this barbecue that we've been invited to that we can't go. And I've told them to reschedule, but he won't. I know. He already did.

That's the that's the hard part.

Um just reschedule for us. And he said, uh you're not that exciting. I'm not gonna reschedule for you. Oh man. I'm bummed out that we're gonna miss that.

It's it's gonna be a a good time. No, it's not. No, it isn't. It's gonna be a terrible time because we're not there. Exactly. That's the way to look at it.

I wish we were there.

Yeah. You're gonna be like, man, this party's missing the two funnest people.

Nobody ever said that. No.

No, they will not. Uh, but that's uh that's a weird place to be in in the uh in the uh, you know, the whatever. I don't know what I'm trying to think about. Yeah, what are you talking about? I'm just saying it's a weird place to be in the middle of two events and having to decide and then being like, both things sound awesome. I know one of them has a family obligation, which feels a little heavier. That's why when you go, you could just stay. No. You could though. Yeah, right.

I can't, but you can you stay and I'll go there. To the birthday party? Yeah, just so that we can make it like real weird extra weird. Yeah, real weird.

I'll be Like, she couldn't come.

She had she had a better party to go to.

Yeah, she had she had other plans. And then I go to the barbecue and everyone's like man, we just really wanted to see Josh. That's not true. No, but there are people at that party that know you more than they know me. So it would be weird for me to go to the barbecue while you went to the birthday party. Uh-huh. I just hate when there's conflicting plans. I know. I hate it. Because then we have weekend because then we have weekends where there's nothing happening. I'm like, do it this weekend.

Well, we didn't have to have everybody make their calendar around us.

Yes. Our calendar is crazy.

Our calendar's crazy because you're addicted to putting stuff on it. No. Yeah. I'm not addicted to that. Quit doing that. Like, this this day's pretty wide open. Let's throw some stuff on.

That's not my fault, even. Other people say, hey, we're gonna do this thing. Do you want to do it? And I go, Yeah, I do. Yeah, I do want to do that, but I also don't want to put that on the calendar because I like having that free time.

I've never seen the calendar without stuff on it. 2027. That's a resolution. An empty calendar. Gotta happen.

Why do you want to be bored? I like doing stuff. I want downtime. You do have downtime. Every night. Ten to five. Ten to five. 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Oh that's my downtime. That's my that's my lay down and sleep time. Yeah. Yeah.

Hey, by the way, thanks for putting on your mask last night. You're welcome. Cheers.

One of the most fascinating mysteries of our uh existence has got to be the disappearance of Amelia Earhart. Oh, yeah. Uh it's long been suspected that uh she uh crashed somewhere and uh didn't make it to her uh next destination. Um which was uh supposed to be uh the first she was supposed to be the first woman to fly around the world. Um she had a flight engineer with her, and the two of them were in the airplane, and they actually made good progress um along the route. They left Oakland, California on May 20th, 1937, and they hit what?

One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven, twelve, thirteen, fourteen. I mean, they probably hit thirty checkpoints, and then disappeared and didn't make it to Howland Island, which was the intended destination, July 2nd of 1937. So they left May 20th. They disappeared July 2nd. They didn't when they lost contact. Yeah. Yeah, they did not make it. And then they were going to land in Honolulu, Hawaii on July 3rd, 1937, and then fly from there back to Oakland. It feels suspicious. It's super strange.

Shrouded in mystery.

So here's the latest. Oh A team of scientists, uh researchers, uh that are backed by Purdue University. Um it's a 17-person expedition. They landed, made landfall as of Monday, day before yesterday, uh, at the Nicomororo, uninhabited Coral Atoll. It's a small island. Um it's just uh the small island off of the uh about in the Pacific Ocean. Um it's not too far from where they were supposed to have landed, uh, but didn't. Um, and uh there is an object that they are calling the Terraria object.

What's that mean? The they have found an object that matches the dimensions of an airplane what and what happened is there's a lagoon off of this island, and it has been it's sediment filled, and all of the satellite imagery for decades and decades has shown nothing there. There was a big tropical storm that went through a couple of years ago, moved a lot of that sediment. Now this object is visible in maps, and so they're going to go check it out. They're there now. They've set up research facilities and they are off this island out in the Pacific.

Oh dude, what are they gonna do if it's her plane?

Well, so this island has been searched before, and they have found human remains on this island, but they were in in uh inconclusive to determine whether it was them or not. How this island is filled with coconut crabs that grow to be like three feet like three foot crabs.

Crazy and crabs are scavengers, correct, as we all know. Right.

And these are giant three-foot coconut crabs. So this is this is really, really, really interesting. And it's been many years since the last expedition to this island. Um the uh team put out a press release that said the path to to the lagoon was heavy with undergrowth and coconuts underfoot.

Dude, have you looked at the coconut crabs? Oh, they're crazy. They're huge.

I know they're absolutely monsters. Um, but this is kind of really interesting. This remote island.

They can crush stronger than a lion's bite. Yeah, with their little claw. Oh, yeah.

Yeah. They're they're absolutely crazy.

They are omnivores.

Yeah. So the they've found what they suspect could be a crash site of Amelia Earhart. They have uh this object that again that they're they're calling the Terraria object in this lagoon that sort of gives them hope that this might actually be the thing. They said it's under uh it's been under sediment for decades, um, and uh an unknown amount of sediment, but it's only like five feet of water.

Which I'm gonna say, if you crash a plane into five feet of water, it's not gonna be good. Like there's a there's a good chance that the the remains that they discovered were not them and could have been someone else. Someone else who was stranded on you know a shipwreck forever and ever and ever ago.

Uh, but this is a there's a chance that the remains could still be in the plane if that's what this is. Like this is brand new happening right now. Check it out. Amelia Earhart News.

You've got to follow along with this story and then check back. Of course, of course.

Yeah, there's uh Purdue University has a whole thing about this, the uh the Earhart expedition. Um it's really fascinating.

I gotta follow along because I am fascinated by that too.

Terraria Object Expedition, if you want to learn a little bit more about it. It's it's really really fascinating, and I just can't believe that like we're almost a hundred years. I mean, we're 90 years from when this took place, and we're still trying to solve this thing. And we have a potential new leap.

Amelia, we're coming to find you.

We're gotta get you. Gotta bring you home. Anyway, pretty cool. Fascinating. I know. I'm fascinated. It's very it's like I've heard this story a million times, and we're still not solving it, but we're trying. We're looking right now.

I like that people are still on the case. That's right. On the case. Come on, gum shoes.

You want to talk about your uh new toy? My new obsession. Yeah. Yes. Do you like it? I do like it. Found it at the store. It was like only a few dollars, and I said, I think this is uh exactly what you would love. And you were kind of like, I don't know if I really need that. And I went, nah, check this thing out. This is cool. It is cool. And uh, and it's this little uh like silicone pad uh with little beads in it, and you can sit there and pick the beads out.

Yeah, that's true. It's a pick pad. Yeah, a sensory pick pad.

And uh this is something because I know like when we're watching a show or uh just hanging out, like your hands get bored. I get bored. And so this is something for you to do that's tactile. You can use tweezers if you want, or you can just pick at it with your finger and you can pull these little beads out, and then when you're done, you got beads.

That's true. And I don't necessarily care about the beads, you're keeping them, but I like that. I like that sensory tactile experience of pulling that stuff out. I like it. Well, it's cool. There's all kinds of ones that you can get.

Yeah, now uh this one's pretty basic. It's just a circle shape with a bunch of beads in it. But what are the ones you're seeing?

There's I don't know. I I wish that there were more. Though these ones uh the ones that I see online are all just beads, but I wish there were some that had like a variety of different shapes and stuff. There are some.

Is that uh yeah, oh sure. You gotta look at uh at the mega bird nest one. Did you see this one? I think you'll like the bird nest one. Yeah. Uh it's everything in the silicone is like little strands, and so you pick them, but then you get to pull it out of the silicone.

Like a you see what I'm saying? Yes.

So the bird nest ones, I think you'd be really into too. I am into that. Yeah.

I like it. I posted a story on my on my personal Instagram about it, and my sister responded and said, Uh, I hate those. And I said, I love them.

I think they're kind of fun. They are fun. It's uh it's just a sensory thing, and I keep your hands occupied, which I think is good. Um I should have brought it

today so that I could work on it today.

I see, like, there's like a holiday one, like I'm looking at a Christmas one that's got like a snowman and Santa in there and a stocking and a Christmas tree, but it it most of it's just beads, but then it has those bigger items as well.

See, I kind of like I like one of those that have other things you could pick out.

Yeah, yeah. I don't think this would be too hard to make. No, I agree with you. I think you would need like a like a silicone, like a clear silicone uh epoxy kind of mix, and then you could make your own. You would just, I mean, I'm looking at people right here that are uh on TikTok, they're making them in like muffin tins.

Yeah, well, this one is a reusable one, so once you pull out all the stuff, it gives you the stuff, and you can just put the mold, you can put it all back in the mold and make those are so cool. I gotta add more of these to my wish list. They're pretty cool. They are pretty cool. Yeah, aren't they pretty cool?

Yeah, you're in the you're in the pick pad phase of your life.

I am in the pick pad phase of life. Did you bring it with you? No, I just said I wish I had brought it.

I didn't hear you say that. I wasn't listening. No, I'm doing another project this morning. Yeah, you are picking hair out of your wheels. You're so gross. I know. I got video of you. You're embarrassed about it. You told me not to show people.

Because it's wrong. There's so much hair in there. I know it. You brought in pliers, you're you're in there ripping hair out. I got so much hair. It's I'm excited. You're what's gonna happen is you're gonna get it all done. You're gonna sit down in your chair, and the wheels are gonna go whoosh. I know.

I'll be so fast speeding around, rolling around this place. Yeah, just you wait. I can't.

I can't wait to see it. What a big day. You think you're gonna get all the wheels done today?

I don't know. I'm gonna work on it. There's only eight of them. There's five. Five. All right.

Well, good luck with your little project. Thanks, buddy.

Our daughter loves scary things. Uh-huh. And one of her very favorite things is a YouTube. Are they YouTubers? Yeah. They're a YouTube friend.

Paranormal research thing. Yeah. Uh what do you think about it? I'm I have mixed emotions. Because I feel like they're like they've made quite a name for themselves. They have a merch line that she's bought stuff from. They have partnerships like with Hot Topic and you know, places like that where you can go and buy their stuff. The Zoomies, like that kind of thing. Like they've done a great job at branding themselves. They've been around for years. Um, and they're they uh do a week long uh series every October leading up to Halloween, and they've just started launching this year's uh and so uh you know I it's fun. They were investigating Dracula's castle. That's right. Uh which is kind of exciting.

What I think is funny is that they they use all this equipment, right? Like all this ghost hunting equipment. So they use I don't even know what any of them are called.

Well, they have all kinds of different

things, that's what I'm saying, but I can't remember the names of any of them. Sure. And they allegedly talk to these spirits or these poltergeists for this instance in this Dracula's castle. There's allegedly poltergeist that are living there. So they're trying to talk to these poltergeist using all this ghost hunting equipment. Right.

But they're so they use EMF meters, spirit boxes, REM pods, EVP recorders, they use night vision, uh they uh uh trigger objects and motion tracking stuff. They have a lot of different stuff.

They were trying to communicate with spirits in the spirit world, sure. And they're speaking in English and they're like, I don't nobody's here, nobody's here. And I'm like, maybe maybe they just don't know English, maybe they should try talking in Romanian.

Well, that's one side of it, but then a lot of the people that they were trying to talk to were also Turkish. Oh, that's right. So I'm going like, maybe you need a little bit of uh, you know.

Even the Romanian tour guide was like, uh, maybe let's try a little Romanian. Right. Let's try to talk to the to them. Let's see what happens. They had a flashlight out at one point, and they were like, Yeah, turn on the flashlight if if you can hear us. Right.

And you're talking about like this is like Vlad the Impaler. Like they're like clear back in Dracula's castle forever and ever and ever go.

What is it? Like, what's a flashlight? know what a flashlight is? Yeah, what is this? Our daughter loves it. I enjoy hanging out with her and watching them. I don't necessarily buy it.

Oh, interesting. So on the scale of one to ten, uh, as they say in the show, like where are you in your spirit believer? I'm at a two. You're a two. Interesting. What are you at? I don't know. It's hard to say. I'm kind of uh I'm kind of uh like man of science and proof, so I kind of want to see some.

I know so and I don't buy into all their theatrics sometimes where I go, I don't know.

Well, look, they're making YouTube. Exactly. It has to be entertaining, or else there's nothing to watch.

And they can the magic of editing, I'm like, sure. They're like, no, something happened over there. I'm like, mm. but did it. I'm trying not to be such a naysayer because our daughter really, really likes the show and she really, really likes them. So I'm trying to just go into it.

Well, but I also said last night when you were like, maybe they don't speak English, maybe they're going with a flashlight. I said, look, you gotta suspend your belief a little bit. You gotta like uh like maybe things don't work the same way in the supernatural realm as they do in the uh physical realm.

I completely understand That yeah, but I also just go, plus also these two kids are like I don't know, they're not kids, they're adults, but if I was a ghost, I'd be like, go get her haircut.

Uh they do have a lot of like forward swoop bang going on. Um I was gonna see how long they've been making this stuff. Uh so Sam Lyle.

They were born in ninety-six and ninety-six. Holy. Yeah. And they started in 2014 and 2015. Uh, they started by making uh videos on Vine. No way. Yeah.

I love Vine, R. I P Vine.

And then their first YouTube video they released in 2014. So they've been doing it for what, 12 years.

I mean, our daughter's been watching them for a very long time. Yeah. Yeah. Interesting. Sam and Colby. What's this week called?

It's it's new video.

I kind of fell asleep. Are we gonna go back to the castle for the next episode?

No, that's it. You you missed out on stuff. Yeah, so you're gonna have to go back and watch. But anyway, it's uh whole new series. Hooray.

Um, okay. There was there's a 10-year-old named Ryan. Okay. And Ryan brought home a permission slip for an upcoming school field trip. And her mother instinctively prepared for heartbreak. Ryan was born with spina bifida. Oh. And relies on a wheelchair, which often means sitting on the sidelines or sitting in the indoor. Uh so while her classmates go out and do the thing outside. Um her Kentucky, so this is in Kentucky. Her Kentucky fourth grade class was headed to the Falls of the Ohio, which is an ancient fossil bed along the Ohio River.

And it's called the Falls of the Ohio. Yes. Okay.

Um, this particular place is known for steep drops, rocky ledges, and jagged terrain. And so it would be nearly impossible for her a wheelchair to navigate. Right. Ryan, the 10-year-old girl, could have spent the day in the nearby museum, but all she wanted to do was to hike alongside her classmates. Right. So uh her mother said, I don't want you to sit this one out.

I want you to participate in this. So her mother Shelley bought a specialized carrier backpack and was prepared to take her on this field trip herself. She was going to carry her in the backpack so that her daughter wouldn't miss out on a thing.

Um there was a teacher at the school, Jim, who wasn't even Ryan's teacher, but he heard about the family's plan and he said, I got a better offer. I'm gonna carry her the entire year. Oh, cool. So he stepped in and carried her in the backpack. Uh the it was 90 degrees when they went on this field trip.

Sure. And he carried her strapped to his back across the riverbeds for over an hour. And because of Ryan's condition, because of her spina bifida, she couldn't grip or wrap her legs around him, meaning that he carried 50 pounds of dead weight up and down the ragged rocks without hesitation. So she would feel included. And she loved it. Of course. She had the best time, and there's pictures of this.

Yeah, I'm looking at the pictures right now. This is so cool.

So cool, isn't it? It makes me so happy. It makes me a little bit teary-eyed that I know. He, this teacher who doesn't know her, it's not even her teacher, but heard about the story and was like, no, no, no, no. We're gonna We're going to make this girl get there.

Give me a sub. I've got a busy day. Yep. And uh, and he did great. That's awesome. Super cool. And uh look, having carried uh quite a bit of weight. I mean, he's got 50 pounds in in a 10-year-old human.

Uh, but I've carried some weight for miles and miles and miles. It's exhausting. Yeah, it is. It's it's a lot of hard work in 90 degree heat. Yep. Well, that's very cool. What a great story.

I know. Yeah. I had to share that with you.

You said the uh teacher's name was Joe. Jim. Jim. Jim Freeman. Way to go, Jim? Kentucky. Yeah. Over in Louisville, it looks like it's pretty awesome.

Yeah, that's really people doing good things. I like it. And it makes me happy. And I love that the little girl Ryan got to participate in the field trip.

Yeah, that's a great story. Inclusion. No what's do it? Nice.

Can you think of a hobby, whether it's a hobby you have or a hobby that somebody else has that looks peaceful from the outside, but then when you're doing it, you're like, oh, this is stress. Golf. Golf is not stressful. Are you?

Are you well? No, because you don't play competitively.

Like you're not there to actually play golf. No.

So uh golf, I would say be for me, becomes more stressful because it's sort of a competitive thing. And when you do it like uh, like I I would go with co-workers or bosses or whatever, and then I would feel like I had some sort of obligation to like be good at it. And so it was never relaxing, like, oh, let's go play a round of golf. It became some sort of like, let me try to impress you with the way I can drive this, uh, you know. And then it's just a mess.

You just need to go golfing with me where every hit I make is with my driver. Oh, you need me to put that in, let me get my driver. Okay. Who cares about golf? I mean, people. Some people do. No, that's not that's not a stressful hobby. No.

I would say the same thing about my fly fishing. It's the most relaxing thing. I've got my feet in slow moving water. There's nature all around. There's, I mean, it's so quiet. It should just be the most peaceful thing. And yet I find myself so frustrated so often. I love it. But then I also am like, why am I out here getting mad? It's the it's the most relaxing way to be angry.

I could say the same thing about sewing. Yeah. Because if I'm just sewing and I've got my fabric in there and I'm either quilting or I'm sewing straight line or whatever.

It's fine. Until your bobbin runs out. I got my podcast in. I'm going to town.

Yeah. And then my bobbin runs out, and I'm like, why I ought to. Or I've messed up a stitch and I have to get my own picker out. I'm like, yeah. Or my tension's all messed up.

Right. And then you walk away and you go, I'm never going to finish this project. I'm done. I'm done. So, you know, I think every hobby's probably got a little bit of that built into it. Where you just go, enough's enough.

I'm Not even enjoying this. What about gardening? Yeah, it has uh certainly got its moments. Um, both good and bad. I had a lot of fighting with earwigs that I had to do. Um, I don't like slugs and grubs.

Um slugs and grubs.

You know, but I really have been a happy harvesting, and I learn every single year I garden, I learn something new, and I am trying new things. I learn what food we end up using and not using. Um, and hopefully I'll be able to make better decisions for the next year about what I plant. Um and be more successful, I guess. That's the goal, right? So it but that's such a slow thing.

It's busy, busy, busy, busy, and then waiting around for stuff to grow and pulling weeds here and there and going out and looking and being like, look, you're growing a pepper. Good job. Look at you go. I think uh I think I really want to figure out some things next year. I want I want a more productive. So even what I was just gonna say, I was I was cleaning out one of the beds the other day. Uh what, Monday, whatever it was, and I would I pulled up a bunch of stuff, and the root system that some of these plants have developed, it's incredible. I I don't even understand it. But the like I went to pull one up and half the garden bed came out because it's such a root system. This is crazy. Did you?

did I Oh no, you didn't. I was gonna ask you. Did you sing No, I did not because the second you started talking about roots, all I wanted to do was see the roots, the roots that's not even a song.

The roots are wrong.

That's not a song. I know. You're just making stuff up. Your brain works in interesting ways. Yeah. Uh-huh. It really does. Yep.

So, okay. So your garden, it's peaceful enough that you want to continue to do it. Your fly fishing is peaceful enough that you want to do it. Sure. The peace of that hobby outweighs the stress of that hobby. Yes. Is that what you're saying? Yeah. Same.

Now imagine I was like, I've tried. Let me think of some other hobbies, right? Like if I was really super into like fixing old cars. How frustrating.

That would be really frustrating. Oh. What about well, you do like watercolor? Yeah. Does that get frustrating?

Only because I overthink everything. Yeah, you really do. I overthink technique. I like I took a watercolor class and the instructor told me that I have a weird brain because I can't just let things flow. I have I'm so analytic. But that's why I need those things.

those things is So that I can get more practice at just free form and letting things happen. Yeah. But I am stuck in processes all the time.

My I think my a lot of my frustration and the stress comes from not being able to do it well. Whatever hobby it is. And then I go, oh, I just want to be better at this.

That's your own expectation for one, and a comparison thing. And then two, you expect to start something and be good at it now. Yeah. I do. Rather than understanding that things take time.

Like I've been practicing. Well, I haven't been practicing, but I started learning how to play the drums, and I'm mad that it's taking so long. It's taking a long time. And I'm mad about it.

An hour of practice every day.

I know, but I don't have an hour to give. I know. Now you've stressed me out. Oh, here we go.

This year, Halloween falls on a Saturday.

I know I'm kind of bummed out by that. You are? Well, yeah, because it's kind of fun to dress up and go to work. You can do that on Friday. I know, but it's not necessarily the same.

I'm completely opposite of you. Why? I want Halloween to be on the last Saturday of October every year. I I agree with that. It doesn't interfere with uh the late night won't interfere with school the next morning.

That's true. It gives you a chance to do like a Halloween party thing and not have to like worry about. What's weird this year is that it's also daylight saving. Oh. So Halloween's an hour longer. Because it's Saturday night, 2 a.m. Sunday morning clocks change on Halloween.

Are we gonna do last year? We did a Halloween party here. Are we gonna do that?

I don't know. I didn't organize it. I organize. Yeah.

Who is in charge of organizing it?

I don't the party planning committee. I don't know. Oh no. Not me.

It's not me either. I also don't want to be on the party planning committee.

Look, I think that having Halloween night, because it the a lot of the Halloween stuff happens Halloween night. And I just think that not having to hurry through your stuff and get the kids all sugared up and then go to bed because you got school tomorrow. It just makes sense. It does. I agree with you.

And I don't know what it takes to change that. But I really do think that having Halloween happen on the last Saturday of October would be better. The same the same reason I think the Monday after the Super Bowl should also be a day off. And we're fortunate that we live in the time zone that we do because the game ends and it's you're still like an okay bedtime. But if you're an East Coast person, forget it. You're up until way late in the night watching that game.

Maybe they should just start Super Bowl earlier. How about that? Or start it at one.

Or we get Monday off. Or here's a better idea. Hey, football. You only take 30 minutes to actually play the game.

Let's not spend four hours on football. No. That's a better idea. No. Let's not stop and talk about every play. That's what I actually cannot stand about football. It's only like at least at most, probably an hour's worth of play. Of actual football playing.

Well, yeah. But no, we gotta drag it out for three to four hours because we gotta talk about how many yards and oh no, there was a challenge. I cannot stand that about football. I cannot just play the game.

So as I was saying, Halloween should be the last Saturday of October, and the Monday after the Super Bowl should be a day off. That's all I'm trying to say. I'm just really trying to make those two things happen. That's all I want.

Well, I'm trying to make football not last four hours. So same. There are things we both want, aren't there? I guess.

There are how many federal holidays? 11. It says there are 11. Okay, let's count them. Well, I don't want to do that. New Year's Day. No, no. Memorial Day. No. Uh President's Day.

Labor Day. President's Day. Thanksgiving. Christmas. Did I say Labor Day?

Indigenous slash Columbus Day that just happened. Martin Luther King Jr. Oh, yeah, that's one. There's still three more. What else? Christmas, you said that? It said Christmas. Uh I mean, uh you can't forget that. Uh I don't know. Valentine's Day? That's not a federal holiday. No. Let's see. Let's see. But Halloween could be.

Halloween is not a federal holiday. No, I know, but it could be. Oh. See, and then we would get like the Friday off before Halloween.

Juneteenth. Oh, yes. And Veterans Day. Yes.

New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, President's Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day. We missed that one too. We missed the 4th of July. Labor Day, Indigenous Peoples Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas. Okay. There you go.

11 federal holidays. I don't even get them all off. I know.

I know. I'm full on aware. Right, because you work here too. Yeah, I know.

But uh Halloween should be on Saturday. And the Monday after Super Bowl should be off. And football should not be three hours. I didn't whatever. Would you rather this or that?

Would you rather fly on a witch's broomstick or fly on the back of a dragon?

Um I have made my decision. What is your decision? Why won't you tell me? Tell me your decision. Um don't give me details. Just tell me your choice. I'm picking dragon. I'm not. I'm picking broomstick. Why? You won't ride a horse. You're gonna fly on the back of a dragon. Yeah, right. It has a mind of its own.

Okay, it does for sure. But I also worry if you ever see a movie where they are on the back of a dragon, where where do they hold on to?

Well, have you watched how to train your dragon? Not in a very long time. They have saddles.

Yes, but only in that movie.

No, I know. Typically, they're just like hopping on and holding on to spines. But that's not a it. You can't grip in their way. You know, taking off really fast and flipping upside down and flying around. No way. I'm not doing that. I'm riding a broom.

It's low altitude, it's under control, it's a quick mode of transport, plus it's coup. Can sweep the floor when I get there. I'm good with the broom. I don't need anything better, bigger, faster.

I still have taken dragon. No. But I gotta have some kind of harness apparatus. Harness apparatus? Uh huh.

I need a harness apparat in order to fly on my dragon. Plus, I've seen a broom. I know they exist.

That doesn't mean that dragons don't exist.

Eh. I've seen a broom. I've held a broom. I've used a broom. I will now fly on one. Watch out.

Plus, also, if you're on a dragon. Oh, here we go.

Some random crazy thought that just popped in your head. Let's hear it.

Plus, also if you're on a dragon. Yeah, yeah, yeah. He can shoot fire on demand. Maybe. So then you could go shoot fireplaces. But then I was thinking, what could we say?

For people who can't start their own. Yeah, possibly. You're going to shoot fireplaces.

Well in different places. That's what I meant. Not fireplaces.

I was thinking how safe of you. I only shoot fire at fireplaces.

Well, I was thinking it would be cool to go shoot fire, but

I they destroy a lot of things. And I don't want to destroy things. So never mind. Yeah.

Maybe I will take a witch's broom.

Yeah, you would. Because sound logic emanates. And then you go, yeah, that's a better choice. It makes more sense. Why aren't you looking at me? I don't know. Would you rather this or that?

On a scale of one to ten, how much do you like Pringles? Two. A two, is it? Yeah. Okay. They're okay. Okay. They're just not my favorite. Well, then don't enter this contest. Okay.

What's Pringles doing?

They it's a spooky contest. It's called Once You Drop.

Okay, because their whole thing was once you pop, you can't stop. Right.

But now it's once you drop. It offers you the chance to win an urn shaped like a Pringles can. No. You can go to oncey Drop.com and sign their wheel and testament. Okay. Tastament, excuse me.

Will and will and taste the mint.

And then you commit to wanting to be buried in a Pringles can of some sort. Okay. The deadline to enter is the 22nd of October. Okay.

You're saying that you will be buried in that thing.

Well, it does say that the document is for entertainment purposes only. Okay. But one grand prize winner will receive an after lifetime supply of Pringles. An after lifetime. I see what they did. I don't I think I want it. It's worth $28,000.

No way. How is that real? I don't know.

I don't understand this. Okay, it says one grand prize winner will receive an after lifetime supply of Pringles, which is two lifetime supplies. So that's one can of Pringles every week of the year for the next 200 years. Why? Understand their math on that. What?

And who gets them after you're gone? I don't know. I don't know. And who is out there going like, yeah, we'll make sure where you get every pringle you were promised. Right.

Also, the grand prize also includes the Pringles Can Urn, which is metal, and it has a personalized engraving, and that's worth $500. Wow. Bro. That's crazy.

I don't I don't want it. Okay.

So the reason this came about is the inventor of the Pringles can. His name is Frederick. He died in 2008, and his final request was to be cremated and buried inside one of the containers.

Okay. And his kids fulfilled his request. And his son said, My siblings and I briefly debated what flavor to use, but I said we need to use the original.

And so they came up with this idea. I don't know. Once you drop dot com. Uh nah. You don't want a lifetime, an afterlifetime supply of Pringles? I really don't.

I gave them a two.

That's true. You did give them a two.

Like it's just not, they're not high on my list of chip. No, I agree.

What is the highest chip on your list?

Good question. Right now I like these uh good crisps. I'm really into those.

Um the salt and vinegar chips from Jimmy John's has to be good.

A lot of people like the Miss Vickies, but nope, it's the Jimmy Johns one. Okay. Those are the top tier. Hmm. I don't know. Okay, this says the after the afterlifetime supply Pringles, that's enough Pringles for life, and to be passed down to someone after you pass away.

That's what I'm saying. You gotta leave that to somebody. You gotta go, uh, I got all these Pringles I can eat, but you get them all for the next 200 years.

200 years worth of I don't know if that's actually true.

A can a week for 200 years?

Just listen, listen, we're not endorsing this in any way. If you do sign up for this, please, please, please read all of the small fine print. Sure. Also, let's not don't sign up for that. On second thought.

Yeah.

I've thought about it a little bit more. It's a strange thing. It is a strange thing. On second thought, just keep your original funeral plan.

Yeah, don't you don't want to be buried in a Pringles can. No. You just don't. It sounds cute, but you don't want that.

Plus, also, Pringles aren't that good. You don't want to I give them a two. You don't want a lifetime supply of those. No. They will start a fire, though. Really? Oh, absolutely. Also, once you pop, you can stop. You can. You can. And I have.

You have a can in the in the uh pantry right now you've opened. Oh, yeah. But uh, you haven't really revisited it.

No, those are the I forgot about those. Your Asian zing ones. They they made a Buffalo Wild Wings Asians. Asian zing.

And they're okay. Which is your favorite, your favorite sauce. Oh, it's so good. Have you tried dipping them in Asian zing?

Oh, they're spicy enough. Okay. They're spicy enough on their own. I don't need to dip them in anything, but maybe some blue cheese. Gross. I like blue cheese. No. Yes. No. Better than ranch. Yuck. Yeah. No.

Let's wrap up the show. You've said something gross. Have a great rest of your Wednesday. I can't believe it. It's already Thursday tomorrow. It sure is. Let's go. Uh, have a great day.
