Rick: Hello everyone, welcome to Dutch Dialogues by Dutch Fluency! I'm Rick, and today Pieter, Lisa and I are sitting in a cozy café to chat about something that affects all of us online. It's tech news, but don't worry, we'll make it fun and easy to understand.
Rick: Nee maar serieus, moet je horen wat ik net lees op NOS.
Pieter: Oh nee. Rick heeft weer de hele NOS gelezen.
Lisa: *lacht* En NU.nl waarschijnlijk.
Rick: Hou op. Maar dit is echt groot. Bank of America betaalt tientallen miljoenen. Voor de Epstein-zaak.
Pieter: Echt waar?
Rick: Ja! Ze schikken met de slachtoffers.
Lisa: Tientallen miljoenen... dat is veel geld.
Rick: Ja maar serieus. Tientallen miljoenen voor Epstein-slachtoffers.
Pieter: Wacht even. Waarom betaalt een bank?
Rick: Omdat ze wisten wat er ging. En ze deden niets.
Lisa: Oh. Dat is erg.
Pieter: Dus de bank helpt gewoon mee?
Rick: Ja, zo lijkt het. Ze hadden zijn geld. Ze wisten het.
Lisa: Tja. Geld is macht, hè.
Rick: Precies. En nu betalen ze. Maar goed, tientallen miljoenen is voor die bank niks.
Pieter: Hoeveel is tientallen miljoenen?
Rick: Uhm... twintig, dertig miljoen misschien. Iets zo.
Lisa: En Bank of America heeft honderden miljarden.
Rick: Dus ja. Het is een klein bedrag voor hen.
Pieter: Dat is bizar.
Rick: Ja! Weet je wat het beste deel is? De comments op NU.nl zijn nog erger.
Lisa: *lacht* Natuurlijk lees jij ook de comments.
Rick: Altijd. Het is mijn hobby.
Pieter: Wat zeggen de mensen dan?
Rick: Oh, iedereen is boos. Terecht, maar ook een beetje grappig.
Lisa: Hoe bedoel je, grappig?
Rick: Nou, mensen schrijven "dit is schandalig!" Maar ze hebben allemaal nog een rekening bij zo'n grote bank.
Pieter: Haha, ja dat is wel waar.
Lisa: Hmm. Beetje hypocriet misschien.
Rick: Nee joh, ik snap het ook. Wat doe je anders?
Pieter: Je gaat toch niet weg bij je bank omdat van dit?
Rick: Tja. Misschien wel? Weet ik niet.
Lisa: Ik denk dat de meeste mensen het gewoon vergeten. Volgende week is er iets anders.
Rick: Klopt. Zo werkt het nieuws.
Pieter: En de slachtoffers dan?
Rick: Die krijgen geld. Maar is geld genoeg?
Lisa: Nee. Nooit.
Pieter: Nee, dat snap ik ook.
Rick: Maar goed, het is beter dan niks.
Lisa: Ja. Dat is waar.
Pieter: Uhm... was Epstein niet al dood?
Rick: Ja, hij ging dood in de gevangenis. Of... ja.
Lisa: "Of ja." *lacht* Mysterieus hè.
Rick: Heel mysterieus. Maar de mensen om hem heen leven nog.
Pieter: En de bank ook.
Rick: Precies. Dus nu betalen ze.
Lisa: Goed zo, eigenlijk.
Pieter: Ja, ik vind het ook goed.
Rick: Ik ook. Maar tientallen miljoenen... voor zo'n grote bank is dat gewoon marketing.
Lisa: Marketing?
Rick: Ja! "Kijk, wij betalen de slachtoffers." Goed voor het imago.
Pieter: Oh dat is cynisch, Rick.
Rick: *lacht* Ja maar het is wel waar.
Lisa: Beetje waar, ja.
Pieter: Nog koffie?
Rick: Ja graag. En dan lees ik even de rest van NOS.
Lisa: *lacht* Natuurlijk doe je dat.
Rick: Iemand moet het doen.
